We were in town during the "mud" season which means that it is off season for most of the businesses on main street. We stumbled onto Crown cafe looking for a cup of coffee after dinner and went back 2 more times! Great selection of desserts and coffees AND one of the best pieces of chocolate cake I have ever had which just happened to be GLUTEN FREE! I had it two nights in a row. We had great service and would highly recommend it. The atmosphere is very unusual and eclectic. We loved the window seats with cushions in the front of the cafe. The Crown could be a really cool place BUT I'm sitting with the two girls not caring about anything but where their next job will be. I ordered a large coffee but there was no coffee to be had... Stopped here for an early lunch while shopping in downtown Breck. Friendly and helpful staff, fresh ingredients, and a delicious sandwich that I devoured. ("The Adams," with tomato, avocado, goat cheese, and sprouts on whole wheat.) Not too much indoor seating, but a few tables are available out front and many on a large patio out back for when the weather is nice. Cozy coffee shop atmosphere with several people working on laptops, not too loud indoor chatter, and two very cute and patient pups waiting outside the front door for their owners. Definitely will be coming back to try the boozy coffee and ice cream! read more

I came here to chew bubblegum, and kick ass. And I'm all out of,.....wait. Is that bubblegum ice cream? Holy crap this place has everything!!!!!! Where the hell else can you rock up at 7:30 AM, caffeinate until you vibrate apart (I totally called the existence of those gravitational waves, two of Chase's latte's and I can frickin FEEL them), and THEN DRINK BEER?!?!?! And then there's the food. You know those people who go to church? That's because they've never been to The Crown. Blasphemous? Perhaps. But Brett and Sara's recipes could make an atheist believe in creation. AND WTH THERE'S ICE CREAM TOO?!?! Seriously. The staff and owners are midwestern nice (just watch out for that wood chipper out back), the wifi is fast, the food rocks, and you can legally alter your mind for 15.5 hours a day. I generally hate breakfast joints. My fiance loves breakfast joints. Hence the dilemma of marriage. Anyway, this place was just great. The ambiance is very chill, very sophisticated, but oddly eclectic. Honestly, it was the perfect breakfast. We shared a breakfast burrito, and they grill it on a plancha to finish it. There were veggies, avocado, eggs, stuffs: they called it the royal tiger. It was indeed of the royal variety. I came home and made one immediately as to pay homage to such a crafty, yet simple recipe. You could taste everything in the burrito, which so often with a hash or scramble, you cannot. Not much to say about it else, but what a burrito. I would eat here every morning if I could, and the people running it are very 'Breck, if you get it. Just nice people. Clean restrooms, but the mirror is broken, so fix that, because a kid can cut themselves now that I think about it. Awesome place, awesome city, perfect pairing. read more

As a Yelper, I tend to prioritize exploring new places whenever I'm in a new town. When visiting Breck, we went to The Crown twice because it was simply THAT good. The first morning, we were standing out front looking at the menu display, and a local walked by and said "It's the best breakfast in town!" We took his word for it and were not disappointed! We split the Royal Tiger burrito (eggs, hash browns, cheddar cheese, bacon, avocado, tomato) and the Magnum (egg, chorizo, tomato, greens, veggie cream cheese) on a jalapeno cheddar bagel. For both, what really made them shine was using the panini press to crisp up the outsides. Mmmm! There was a lot of flavor in each one, and they were quite large. We ended up splitting one burrito during the second visit. The coffee was also solid. As an iced coffee person, I always appreciate places that have simple syrup in their self-service area. There's probably 10 tables inside, but during the right time of year, the patio was really nice too! read more

Then when she brought our food, she tossed our baskets down on the table and walked off. She put our food and plastic baskets and other people's food on plates. My sister was very cordial and polite. I have family visiting from Australia who are very fussy about their cappuccinos and were starting to worry they would not have a good cup of coffee their whole trip. The Crown Cafe saved them! I almost went three because we came back for dinner because we wanted something quick. And stood there reading the menu for the folks behind the counter to say "we already closed the kitchen." This place was about as good as it gets. It checked all the boxes required to impress me! Fast and very FRIENDLY service. Simple menu but tasty. We ordered paninis. Delicious mocha with real whipped cream. Fresh baking (naan and chocolate chip cookies!) happening as we were there. Ceramic mugs and pint glass for eating/drinking in (I really dislike coffee shops that do paper or plastic cups for all drink orders). Nice ambiance - lots of little things where you could tell they have thought about the details also! We were there with a 7 month old and felt totally welcome - good for kids who aren't running around (it's a small shop). Yummy breakfast food! I've never had a drink here but the look amazing! My suggestion - the breakfast sandwiches are HUGE, they can easily be shared by two people. I really wish I could give 3.5 stars! We drove over from frisco for dessert and coffee with our kids. They each had a milk shake with the homemade ice cream and is was great. My husband had the apple pie which was good but not "the best" I ordered the gluten free chocolate cake which was SUPER DRY and a huge disappointment. And let me add that I know first hand that gluten free does not have to mean gross. I make a very rich gluten free cake but this one was really bad. The young college guy working was very nice but when I brought the plate up with over half the cake still on it, no one asked if I liked it or anything.
