This place is definitely okay, it's a tiny breakfast joint. I was in the area and hungry and it did the job. I ordered a pretty standard breakfast with eggs and toast (hardly toasted tbh), maybe they specialize in something else. The concept is heavy self-service, you order at the counter and pick a table and wait for them to bring your food, then you grab all your silverware and sauce etc. The staff were very friendly so that was nice. read more

The food and atmosphere makes you think you'd see waitresses greeting guests and refilling coffee cups but it's all sit and serve yourself. They do bring the hot food orders to your table and everything we ordered was delicious. The fresh cake slices at the counter looked very good and the lady taking money at the counter was very nice. This is a great hometown spot. They actually know how to make over medium eggs that aren't runny, but have a little of the golden egg. The hashbrowns were crispy. The bacon was perfect. This place can get VERY packed and busy on a weekend. The boyfriend and I have come here twice for breakfast/brunch. You order at the counter,and the food comes out pretty quick. My thing is that I don't like how I am always seeming to need to add more to my plate? Things that I feel have been sstandard in diners? -Grits don't come seasoned-- they were plain. I had to add hella salt and pepper. -The boyfriend had to add a lot of things to his huevos rancheros scrambled eggs-- cheese,onion,bell pepper,cheese.not come on scrambled eggs. Of course the extras are only .35/each, but it can add up?? At least they ask if you want corn/flour tortillas when getting a mexican inspired dish. I am a divey, casual, diner style kind of guy. Think S&H Good Eats in Slidell. The Depot is one such place and if you are like me, you will like it. Breakfast is standard and unfancy. You can probably get fruit for a pancake but I encourage the standard breakfast fare. I did my usual western omelet. It was cooked well, had the perfect stuff to egg ratio, and wasn't too fluffy. Friday is pot roast and you won't find it better anywhere else. If it's not Friday I order the smaller catfish plate and it's really good. Lately it has been on the fishy side but it's still a favorite of mine. The service is always friendly because everyone that walks into the cafe is treated like family. I pass by this places on a weekly basis and NEVER thought a thing about it. One day, Yelp sent out an email about brunch near me an as I was going through the list, the Depot popped up and low and behold....VEGAN OPTIONS. And not just one! Several options! Gluten free too! ((insert mind blown emoji here!)) Even my husband said "you wouldn't think a place like this would offer such options." hahahaha! However, they do and the french toast is amazing. Ever since I saw the pictures and reviews of it I knew that's what I needed. But when I got there and saw the menu and how inclusive it is for people with dietary restrictions, I will be going back to try their tacos and gluten free/vegan pancakes! My husband got their depot breakfast and mentioned how he didn't ask for gravy. Being Texas, pretty much every breakfast comes with a side of gravy down here lol. If you're ordering for a kid, the portion is going to be big so just one pancake will feed 2 hungry kiddos just fine. They have a hot station by the drinks which has a pretty decent line up all types hot sauce! The overall charm of this place is very much so "I'm a breakfast spot next to a gas station" but it also has a good amount of Frisco history in there to spark your interest. Some friends of ours invited us to the annual Frisco Community parade and said they were going to get there early and have breakfast at The Depot Cafe. Not being in the area very often I didn't know anything about The Depot Cafe what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is attached to a gas station so it looks underwhelming, but the service and food was great! They have lots of options on the menu and will help you with your order if you find yourself not being able to choose from all the delicious options. We had a large group with adults and children so we split into 3 different tables. The kids ate together and the people bringing out the food did a wonderful job figuring out who the food belonged to, which was definitely not something we expected them to do. My kids ordered the chocolate pancake and French toast which they both really enjoyed. I ordered a breakfast taco that was so good I'm trying to find an excuse to drive back over there and get another one...lol. The taco was as big as my face and I wasn't even able to finish it. I got the potato, bacon and egg and it was hands down one of the best breakfast tacos I've ever had. I opted to get both of their sauces and it was absolutely the right choice. Because it was a little chilly outside we also ordered hot chocolate for the kids. We were provided with hot chocolate packets so we mixed it with the right amount of water for each of the girls which was perfect. Some like it with more water, some with less, so the ability to make it to our liking was a definite plus. This place is really great, and I've heard their lunch specials are even better than the breakfast, so I absolutely recommend it but encourage you to get there early to beat the rush. read more

This is an uncomfortable review to write- and I never thought I'd be writing a review of this nature. The food we ordered was great! I enjoyed the vegan French toast and the southwestern tempeh taco. The environment was alright- clean, quiet, a little unwelcoming with everyone looking at you coming in. I got the vibe it might be a place for regulars. What was really upsetting was the fact that there was a large pile of feces that appeared in the middle of the restaurant floor during our dining experience (it was also a noticeable smell) which immediately made us lose our appetites to the point of needing to go outside as I felt physically ill. We notified staff who seemed unphased and stated that they would take care of it. I recognize this is not the fault of the staff or related to the food, but it was a little startling that something very shocking was happening and we weren't addressed as customers how it affected the experience. I'm hopeful this type of thing doesn't happen often there, but I don't think I'll return back. read more

The restaurant is located in downtown Frisco, next to a gas station, and it looks like the perfect local spot for breakfast. Service was great, and they gave us recommendations on the menu since it was our first time. You order before you sit down, and it's a self-service drink station. We ordered the depot scramble with biscuits, as well as a short stack of blueberry pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs. The blueberries in the pancakes were fresh and the pancake was pretty large. The gravy for the biscuits were fantastic. All in all, it was a good breakfast however not one of our favorite in the area. While the portions were fair for the price, we felt like we paid too much for the overall quality of food we ate. It's a great place to try out, and it's a very family oriented restaurant! read more

Best Fried Catfish in north Dallas! Since I moved to Dallas I had not found a place with fried catfish that I thought was really good or worth returning to eat again. Now I found it! The Depot Cafe serves fried catfish. I never would have guessed as I had only been there for breakfast on Saturday mornings. Apparently you can get their fried catfish any time there open which includes breakfast and lunch 7 days a week and dinner on Friday night. The fish was battered well with a traditional corn meal batter. Not too thick... just the way I like it. The fish was cooked perfectly. Not greasy at all. I had fried okra which I also rate very high. We tried a couple other sides. Mash potatoes and gravy were fine but nothing special. Mac and cheese for the kids is like box Mac and cheese but was disclosed when ordering. I also tried the black-eye peas which I thought were severely lacking in flavor. Don't get me wrong though. I came for the catfish and was pleasantly surprised. It is as good as any fish house would serve. Highly recommended. read more
