We were in search of a good lunch place. Being new to the area, The Train Depot seems like a good family style restaurant. The inside is cozy and fairly friendly. It can at first glance give you the impression that they are slightly unorganized, perhaps they are, but they don't leave you waiting. We were seated with menus right away, had drinks almost as fast, and I'm not talking just water. The menu has a lot of variety without being over done. The fare is not fancy, but good traditional American food. I had the soup and salad which was supposed to come with garlic toast. They forgot the garlic toast, but the tomato basil soup was so good and so filling, that it was fine they forgot. Homemade soup is absolutely a treat in a restaurant and this was exceptionally delicious. The salad was plentiful, so between the two, it was just fine. My partner had the Monte Cristo, which wasn't made the traditional way, but was so tasty that he forced himself to eat the last quarter of sandwich. Good thing dinner was hours and hours away. Their hot chocolate is machine made, and served with a mountain of whipped cream. The soft drinks are free refills. While I read the other reviews on this place, I have to give it a 4-star, because our experience was really very good. read more

My wife suggested that I should tip because the server had 'a nice smile.' I did but should not have. I ordered a rib eye steak, medium rare, with salad and, along with candied carrots I ordered mixed veggies. I was told I could have the veggies or the carrots but not both. I assumed a potato would be included and some sort of bread. For $19.95 I got a steak, possibly from an old milk cow, and the carrots. That's all! When I asked for the rest of the dinner I was politely told that it all came with the dinner menu which was not served until 3 pm. The meat was certainly not cooked to perfection and did not even come with a steak sauce to enhance the flavor of this mediocre meal. But, I tipped because my wife told me to. On line I found that the prime rib dinner we $2 less. I must admit, I have had better eats here in the past. read more

My kids and I stopped in here while on vacation. My kids were thrilled that the kid menu had breakfast items, even though it was 5pm. I decided to go with the Train Wreck burger, since it seemed the most unique. None of us were disappointed. My burger was literally as big as my head, and DELICIOUS! My kids were also fans of their meals. While the atmosphere was unremarkable it was clean and comfortable. It's location is a little bit off of the beaten path, but if you want an awesome burger, you need to find this place. Tip: For smaller portions. Check the back page of the menu. The large restaurant is very popular and has well prepared meals. On our last visit we had the small (2 egg) portion of a veggie omelet with home fries and choice of bread. It was just the right amount, had lots of steamed veggies and the red potatoes were cooked properly. My wife did say her omelet was "lacy" on the edges; she doesn't like that; I didn't notice. I was looking forward to a restaurant meal since we've not been able to dine in one since the corona virus hit. I ordered the hand dipped beer battered cod, sounds freshly made and I just love beer batter anything.Well what I got was a rectangle something, not beer battered, it was hard and full of oil, looked like it was fried a couple times the meat was chewy, it smelled like it had been around for a couple years,I really tried to eat it but about barfed, the good news was the sweet potato fries were good. Very friendly. Good basic food. Tried the "Captain's Platter" which is a mix of fried seafood (I know....really bad for you....but tasty!). Very reasonable at $11. Go figure that the fish and chips was MORE $$. Cute railroad era decor. I agree with previous reviewers that the place seemed to have mostly senior citizen diners.....but that would include me! Good basic breakfast, lunch and dinner fare. Only open for dinner a few nights a week, and short hours, so check their hours. No late dining here. Few places deserve a one star rating, and this my friends, is definitely one of them. The lettuce was browning at the edges, the onions were old and dry. My "side salad" consisted of nothing but lettuce and 4 croutons. Burger was burnt to a point that it had to be cut with a butter knife to get it into smaller pieces. I was dying for a mint after to kill the lingering taste of my meal. The waitresses were very kind and pleasant, but obviously too busy to help us, we sat ourselves, after 5 minutes we got up and got our own menus. 5/19/2016 The ONLY reason I'm giving it 1 star is because of the Rogue Roasters coffee! My mom ordered bacon and eggs with extra crispy hash browns and I ordered the House omelette with extra crispy hash browns, biscuit and a side of gravy. When we got our food my mom noticed an eyelash on one of her eggs so I took it up front and let our server know and showed it to her; she said she would have them do my moms entire order over again, I handed her the plate and returned to our booth. I could see the cooking station from where we were sitting and the cook didn't look to happy that we sent it back. I also heard our server talking to another server and telling her that it was probably a string. It certainly was NOT a string!!! She brought my mom a new plate of food. Now for my omelette....it looked good but the taste was off, it had a rancid flavor to it; I informed the server that I don't normally complain but I couldn't get past the taste. I tried to eat more of it but couldn't continue it was AWFUL! As for the hash browns....we asked for EXTRA crispy, they were crispy on ONE side and not cooked on the other and were saturated with some kind of cooking margarine...yuck! The biscuit was dry and the gravy was lukewarm! Now we've eaten breakfast here on a few occasions and the food was good; not today! We WON'T be returning! A couple more things to add; I had to go up to the front and ask for silverware! And when we left I noticed the whole restaurant smelled rancid which I didn't notice when we first arrived! After some time avoiding this restaurant, we gave it another try. With only 6 tables in use and 3 waitstaff standing by the register, we waited with dry coffee cups. My wife was facing the kitchen and pass-through and after awhile she said, "I hope that's not our food sitting in the pass-through". It was! When someone finally woke-up, we were served food of mediocre quility which was somewhat warm. Theres too much competetion for this kind of service to exist. My husband and I have been here many times and the food is ok. Service was good until my last visit with my Filipina friend. The waitress asked for our drink and gave mine promptly but took 20 mins for my friend's. 30 minutes had passed and she hadn't gotten our orders. She prioritized those people who arrived later than us. Finally, we had enough and left and that was when she came running to us saying she can take our orders now....after 30 freaking minutes. I had a hungry kid with me too. We just felt that subtle racial discrimination there from a waitress no less. Just left the train depot and I was super excited about going in and then couldn't wait to leave. Our server Amanda was rude and unprofessional. My husband was treated very badly. His egg Benedict came just like that with one egg, when he let Amanda know she spoke like we had no sense and then came back with a runny white and raw yolk poached egg. Went there for the Prime Rib dinner. For $15.99 you can't go wrong. Dinner comes with soup or salad, choice of potato and veggies. Salad was ok, mostly micro-greens. Lots of croutons and grape tomatoes. Veggie was candied carrots, which I thought were too sweet. Prime Rib was good, with au juice and creamed horseradish sauce. Huge portions of good food at reasonable prices. Chicken fried steak was two large pieces of beef, lots of mashed potatos, and fresh veggies that were not over cooked. Ate lunch here, and the food was great but the service was horrible. Looking around, not many people had their food. Tables were waving down the waitress to take their order. We waited forever for our order to be taken, never got checked back on, no refills, and after picking up our plates the waitress took another ten minutes to get us our check. Still, dirty tables all over the place. Although the food was good, I don't think I will be returning. The food was so simple and the job is not rocket science. This week after the movies we decided to give the Train Depot a try after looking at the reviews, hoot hoot. We ordered a BLT & the Depot Burger. The food is ok for a Train Depot. The BLT tasted good but little greasy, bacon seemed to be left over from breakfast. The burger was your normal cafe burger, some what on the dry side. The restaurant was clean and quiet. Our waitress did just enough, took your order, brought your food, asked if it was ok and dropped off the bill. What about the desert? Oh well probably better off. We will be back but not for dinner we will give breakfast a try someday. read more

My breakfast was a little better than average, not very large servings but ridiculously overpriced. $12 for eggs, hash browns and meat? $2.50 for a cup of green tea? Super disappointed in our most recent trip to the depot. Normally our favorite place in town for good consistent breakfast. This particular Saturday morning we pull up at 11am expecting a little wait but it wasn't that bad actually. I'd say 70% of the tables were filled with plenty of servers and we had received great service with it way busier... Had 2 kids with us, walked in right behind another couple and both parties were sat right away. First couple had drinks served right away, and then a few minutes later their order taken. We waited for our server to come by to grab our drink order because getting something to distract the kids is super helpful. Waited... waited.... another couple comes in and is sat right away and their drink order taken and served ... so we must be next... but we weren't... then the couple that came in after us gets their food order taken as well... still no signs of a server for even a coffee... we got up and left - no apology from the staff just - we are super busy excuse.... read more

I guess that to justify having spent an exorbitant sum in this place, I have to craft a review of the experience, being that it was extremely unpleasant and I do wish to save other people the trouble, stress, and money of visiting this less than marginal joint. This was our second try. We hoped last time was just an off day for the server and the cook, but we were mistaken. Again, we entered and stood there, not being seated, no sign indicating welcome, be seated, or please wait, just a loud waitress gabbing with a man with a brown bag in his hand. Finally, we asked her if we could sit down, and seated ourselves. Cold coffee was next, and a cold breeze blowing on the table and under the table, somehow. Waitress finally showed up to take the order and was blunt, curt, and rude. My guess is that she could tell we weren't the Fox news type. (A large screen tv in the front features fox, 24-7.) I noticed that a two egg breakfast was over $8.00, and without meat, BUT below that section in pancakes etc, you could get two eggs, 2 meat, 2 pancakes, and home fries or hash browns, for less. That proves the owner is of questionable intelligence, right out of the gate. It costs less money to get your two eggs and home fries with meat. That did provide some comic relief. The waitress never did a quality check, never even glanced our way, and let our dirty dishes sit on the table while my aging father drank his boiling hot, scalding coffee, billowing with steam in the freezing air, his punishment for asking for "hot coffee," when they twice brought him tepid coffee. He had to get up from the table to get the coffee, and get up from the table to ask for more because no one would come to the table. I noticed other customers shocked at the high prices and moving around, in a futile attempt to get away from the freezing cold air, frowning at the extra loud rock music blaring from the kitchen. The whole vibe was extremely unpleasant, the service, abominable, but the food was fine. It was not on par with its high cost, by any measure, but it was edible. Too bad the atmosphere, attitude, temperature, prices, and hosting were so terribly poor. We will NOT be returning a third time. read more

Used to go here constantly about 8 to 10 years ago. Was a hoppin place with good food and service. When the owners opened up their fabulous upscale restaurant across the river the quality at this restaurant tanked. Mainly the service. Tried it three times this last year and was still disappointed. The quality of the waitstaff is subpar. A few weeks ago mom and I went for breakfast. Walked in the door and were handed menus and was told to sit over there. Now I'm okay with "sit anywhere you'd like," but the waitress still shows up with menus and water. But hey this might be the new norm. NOT!! My waitress had to be reminded several times about things we needed or wanted. She showed up with my omelette and said "oh you didn't want the small one did you?" I said no, but I'll take it anyway. She did not let me have it. I told her THREE times it was okay and she still took it back to the kitchen. Now my mom ate alone while I waited for it to be remade. When she brought the regular size omelette back I told her again that the other one was fine and she said "well they have to learn when they make a mistake." I guess just telling them wouldn't be enough. It took her FOREVER to bring the check (it wasn't packed) so I just went up to the cash register. This was a no tip breakfast. read more

I gave it the one star for my previous visits to this restaurant. Today, I had the honor of being served by the owner's son (at least that's what he said) Given his attitude, I believe it, since any employee not related to the owner could never develop such a attitude. When I inquired if I could get a "warm up" on my coffee, it got a surly "When I can get to it". The place was barely a quarter full, so I didn't understand why he was so stressed..........or, maybe it wasn't stress, maybe he is just a spoiled brat who has never been told that he might not be WONDERFUL. After another long wait, I waved him over again......before I could speak, he said "I said I would get to it". I managed to halt him long enough to ask why he was displaying such antagonism. Believe it or not, he said "I do not have to serve anyone. We can refuse service to anyone". I state that "You'e already served my lunch, I was just asking for a little more coffee." And I asked to see the manager. He stated "I called my mom to come ant talk to you, because you are banned from this restaurant" After a good chuckle, my friend an I paid our checks (guess how much his tip was), waited a few minutes for "Mom" to show up......she didn't so we left.
