I saw the reviews and it said to make reservations. I tried calling but kept getting a busy signal which is quite rare these days. I tried several times and still a busy signal. I felt like I was back in time in the 90's before call waiting... we decided to go anyway, since it was early not yet 6pm. We walked in and no one greeted us, we just stood there for what felt like way too long. It was busy but not packed. There were several empty tables. Its a downer to say the least when you are standing and waiting and servers keep walking by and completely ignore us. We almost turned around and left since we felt invisible. Finally a server seated us near the back by the restrooms. He was a decent server. My husband ordered the veggie burger and he loved it. I ordered the French dip and a cup of Italian wedding soup for my side. It was all delicious. The bread tasted fresh but the ratio of bread to meat was too much, luckily it sopped up the au jus, but I felt like it was a little too much bread for me. And the Swiss cheese wasn't melted and the crispy onion straws were on the lite side. I still enjoyed the sandwich and it hit the spot but I definitely have had better elsewhere. It was merely a roast beef sandwich with Swiss cheese and it was barely warm. My son wanted to order the pizza but we didnt t realize it was the upside down pizza, luckily our server let us know it wasn't typical pizza. My kid didn't want to risk not liking it and so ended up getting the cheese sticks and calamari. The calamari wasn't fresh. You could barely taste the squid, mainly crunchy breading. So that was a disappointment. Other than that it was a casual dining spot. Nothing special, lots of families. Burgers looked good. I would come back for that. Little sweet, little spicy, little tangy, little garlicky. AMAZING! French Dip: Exceeded expectations. We randomly found The Depot while searching for places to eat in the local area. We were very pleased with everything we experienced from the fun atmosphere, delicious found & amazing staff. Tiffany the manager even went out of her way to show us the private dining room that they use for big groups as we had informed her we were in town for the week for baseball. She said we could reserve the room with advance notice. Our waitress Mariah was so friendly and had wonderful recommendations when we asked about the menu and beer choices. My wife and I, along with a few friends, traveled from out of town to attend a seminar/vendor show at the Oneonta Quality Inn. When it was time to eat, after a brief contemplation on where to eat, we settled on The Depot. Upon arrival, we quickly noticed that the place was PACKED. Which, for us, is always a great sign. We gave our name & the size of our group to the hostess, and we were given an estimated wait time of 30-40 minutes. No big deal, especially with no reservation at prime dinner time. We were able to purchase drinks from the bar and pass time that way. I kept it simple and ordered a high noon, and my wife ordered the blackberry margarita. Both were enjoyable and a great way to pass the wait time. At just under the 30-minute mark, we were picked from the waiting bunch and escorted to our table. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and we quickly made our food order. My wife and I ordered The Depot's signature 12 piece bone-in garbage wings to share. Additionally, my wife ordered The Crossings burger with sweet potato fries, and I ordered the Garbage Grilled Cheese with regular fries. Our friends ordered the 18-piece boneless garbage wings and the Chicken Riggies big plate to share amongst themselves. Within 10 minutes of ordering, our wings were served to our table. The bone-in garbage wings were bursting with juciness and flavor. The Depot's signature garbage sauce was really, REALLY good. If I could explain the taste of the garbage sauce in a comparably experienced way, I would say that it tasted like an elevated and fine-tuned version of a carolina gold sauce. A perfect blend of sweet, tang, and spice. The wings had the perfect amount of crisp to boot. Our friends shared similar sentiments with their order of the boneless version. Needless to say, there wasn't a wing left by the time our main course made its way to the table. When our main course hit the table, my wife gave me half of her burger in exchange for half of my grilled cheese so that we may both enjoy a variety. BOTH were top-notch, and our taste buds were pleased. The Crossings Burger had pretty much every element that makes a burger great. However, what stood out the most was the beer cheese sauce they put on the burger. Rich in flavor, the beer cheese sauce complimented the burger in every perfect way. The only thing I would change is ordering the burger myself. A half was simply a tease. The Garbage Grilled Cheese was amazing in its own right. Stuffed with chicken, which was tossed in their garbage sauce, this sandwich was ALMOST as enjoyable as the burger. Our friends enjoyed their shared order of Chicken Riggies, with high praise of the flavor and enjoyability of the dish. However, they later stated their jealousy of our enjoyment of our sandwiches, so take that as you will. UNFORTUNATELY, our otherwise highly enjoyable experience was quickly spoiled by a questionable and, in my opinion, unprofessional move by the hostess. Our table was positioned directly next to the waiting area, and as mentioned at the beginning of this review, this place was PACKED. There were a lot of people waiting for seats. A large group of guests waiting to be seated together were visibly and audibly growing frustrated the longer they had to wait. Having been seated so close to the area they were waiting in (within 3-4 feet), we heard it all. One woman from the waiting party asked the hostess how much longer they had to wait, and we could hear the hostess telling the woman that OUR table was the space they were planning to utilize for that party, and they were unable to be seated until we were done. Mind you, when this happened, we weren't even done with our desserts/drinks yet, and we hadn't even received our bill. The already irritable group quickly turned their general gripes into audible frustration aimed at our group. "What are they doing", "why are they taking so long", "they are holding things up on purpose" were just some of the comments we heard as we attempted to enjoy our time together. Whenever the large group would inquire about alternative seating arrangements, the hostess continued to emphasize that our table was the only table they had available to accommodate their group. Ultimately, the hostess' response to their impatience and her inability to manage confrontation put our group in an uncomfortable and borderline confrontational predicament. Doing our best to remain patient and decent through this situation, we quickly wrapped up our business there, and we were out the door. A truly shameful way to end an otherwise enjoyable experience. All in all, I WOULD go back to The Depot if I ever find myself in Oneonta again, with the hopes that patience and common decency reign supreme the next go round. read more

This was my second time here. Unfortunately I was reminded why I didn't care for the small white pizza (deep dish and in a rectangle). Sort of boring and really enough food food for two or three people The wings were good, as were the Kalamari appetizer and garbage dip appetizer. The flat breads (were uneven- not a fan of the BBQ but the chicken with the garbage sauce was the best of all our meals). Service was good and portions were generous for the price. With very few options for good food in Oneonta, The Depot was a surprising success, especially compared to the other places I at eat there. The restaurant has a cute train theme, given that they are located on railroad rd, which provides for a layed back atmosphere. We were there during graduation so we made a reservation, and we arrived early but were still seated right away which was nice. The waitress was very attentive and constantly checking to make sure everything was ok. My sister told em I had to try the garbage wings, so I split an order of hot garbage wings with my brother as an appetizer. The wings were actually really, with the sauce being mix of sweet barbecue sauce and hot sauce. Not the best wings I have every had but very good none the less. After appetizers came the salad, and I have to say although I know the caesar dressing I had was not made in house, it was actually amazing, and I am not ashamed to admit it. Wherever they are getting that dressing from I need to know. For my entree I had the trainwreck burger which came topped with bacon, barbecue sauce, thin crispy onions, and onion rings, I didn't realize it did not come with cheese, which I wish I had noticed because I would have ordered some on it but it was cooked perfectly medium rare and very flavorful. Overall a solid burger. If you are looking food decent food in Oneonta, then your best bet is to stop by the depot. The food is solid and the prices are very fair. If you're new to Oneonta and not sure where to eat, this is your spot! It's kind of hard to find, but don't give up-the frustration is worth it! The pizzas are super delicious and different. The cheese is underneath the sauce! And the crust is thicker than normal but those things all add to the uniqueness of the depot! And if you talk to any townie or college student, they will probably steer you into getting garbage wings-do it! The garbage sauce is outstanding. Get it on wings, get it on pizza, get it on sandwiches, salads, whatever you want it's all so good! Just talking about it, my mouth is watering! Portions are all really big too which is a plus!! Third pizzeria we visited on our trip. Ordered pizza for pick up. The woman on the phone was not extra friendly but I think in general we Orange County Californians have a high standard for even fast foot establishments. It's the Disney in us! Anyhow ordered a large pep pizza and a small house salad. The Depot is very hidden, a lot of turns to get there and if my navigation didn't tell me I was there, I might've missed it, the size of the place is good just doesn't have big signs outside. The place is kinda dark. Cashier gentleman was very friendly. Handed me my order and I was on my way. It threw me off a little when the box was a rectangle instead of a square and even more when I opened the box and it looked like it was bread with all sauce, couldn't even see the pepperoni or cheese (wish I took a pic). But wow that pizza was very good. Sauce is good and I'm not sure where they put the cheese and pepperoni but it was layered in there perfectly. Salad was perfect for a small house salad too. Overall this has probably been my favorite pizza for the three places we've been since we got here. Would totally come back! read more

NOT BASEBALL FAMILY FRIENDLY. Visited July 12. My wife and our 4 children stopped in around 4:30pm. Very quiet inside with some open 4 top tables as well as a 6 top. We were told it would be 25-30 minutes by what I assume was the head waitress. She was very uninterested in speaking me after seeing we had children. They would not take our name or phone number to reserve a table. Simply told to come back within that timeframe. 20 minutes later after watching multiple larger groups exit the restaurant, I went back in and she asked if I had a pick up order! Obviously acting like she forgot who I was. I then proceeded to re-explain how we were looking for a table and there were still multiple four top tables and also a six top. She said the six top was reserved, which I did not see a sign on. And they were having a banquet tonight and we could come back around seven. Obviously, they did not want children in their establishment. If we would have waited the 30 minutes as originally told, and went back in it would've been a complete waste of time, which it still was. read more

Before I tell you about The Depot, please note the closing time is incorrect on Yelp! They stop serving at 9pm. This is where I start. We arrived shortly prior to 9pm and were informed they were not seating anymore guests. I showed her the hours listed on yelp. The host checked with the kitchen and they were able to accommodate. So happy they did. I wanted to go here because of the great reviews I read and I'm so happy we did. The "Garbage Wings" were far from garbage. The had a wonderful sweet, with a slight heat, flavor. The wings were perfect size, and cooked perfectly, with a great crispyness to them. We also ordered a large pepperoni pizza, which was something different. Sauce on top and rectangular. It was worth it. Delicious pizza with a nice Sicilian type crust. Our server was great and very attentive. The host from earlier turned out to be the owner. She was terrific. Bought 2 bottles of their sauce, regular and hot. Can't wait to use it. read more

Probably would have been fine, booked out for graduation we didn't know but that's okay. Just frustrating watching the host flirt in front with another woman who works there while we waited. Didn't even acknowledge us. Just super rude for a half empty restaurant. At 5:20 at night. Once he did finally acknowledge us the woman behind the register interrupted half way through to continue flirting and he completely turned her attention to her and back to ignoring us. The bad review is not about not getting a table it's about waiting forever because this guy is too busy flirting than to just let us know what's going on. All 3 loved it. Sweet Potato Fries. First time ordered sweet potato fries thought would be exactly like a french fry but different flavor. The cheap rental hall chairs were a huge turnoff. Our waitress was just off; when we asked which beers were on tap, she like, glanced over at this chalkboard that apparently listed what was on tap without saying a word. What a great find for people from out of town. We showed up with 9 people, not really expecting to all sit together on a Saturday evening but thankfully the staff were considerate and kind and sat us in the back room. The menu was diverse and extensive! We got drinks, apps and dinner. I was amazed at the sizes for the prices we paid. The presentation and quality of food was splendid! Each person in the party was speaking how delicious the meal was. Mine was a Ruben sandwich that was not too large to eat (sometimes they go too big but not here) with fresh bread and high quality meats. It was delicious and hit the spot. I will be back this week for dinner each night (the selection was such that I could be happy all week long.) Of special note was the kind service and attention to our table. The pretzel bun was cold; doughy and not even slightly toasted. The "seasoned fries" were hardly seasoned at all. The order details were not followed and we did not receive the fries we wanted and all the burgers were cooked the same (one ordered rare and the other two ordered medium). Speaking of the meat, it was obviously a frozen patty. It was thin and just overall, tasteless. There was also hardly any cheese on the burger. The meal itself was cold and we left feeling full, but completely empty. The staff was very friendly but the wait was long. I've had their garbage sauce before and I loved it, so I made it a point to come here while I was in town recently. The building is really cool and it's actually a lot cleaner than I was expecting, I thought it was going to be a dump seeing as how they serve garbage haha. I'd say that "it's off the beaten path", but actually the roads you take to get here are pretty rough and bumpy. Ok enough rambling, onto the food! I got a small plain pizza and a wing platter for around $25, which seemed fair. The texture of the wings was great! Crisp but not super crisp, and the meat was more tender than most places. I think they actually season the wings here before cooking, which most restaurants don't do, it was a nice touch! I liked the BBQ sauce but I suspect that it's not made entirely from scratch, I think it might be a doctored bottled sauce but it was good. And of course the garbage sauce was amazing, sweet and tangy with a little kick! I actually give the wings 5 stars, but the pizza is bringing the review down to a 4. It was alright but it's far from my favorite. The sauce was good but I didn't care for the texture of the crust, the pizza was too bready and also messy to eat because of the sauce on top. There is cheese on the pizza but the flavor gets totally lost, they need to use a lot more of it! I actually liked the pizza better the next day as leftovers. We went to The Depot for my sons 13th birthday while in Cooperstown for a baseball tournament. Website says they close @10:00. When we went to front desk and try to get a table, the young blonde girl had major attitude and says they were short staffed and didn't have enough servers and closed at 9:00, we were in @ 8:54pm, expressed it was his birthday and she told us to go somewhere else!!! Great place if you want your once in a lifetime birthday ruined for your kid! Do yourself a favour and stay as far away from this place as you can.
