COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff wears a mask. All customers are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor seating available with limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. I mention these things in my reviews for the sake of protecting immunocompromised people like the elderly and people sick with cancer and other illnesses. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was eating my food in this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they had several special offers at the moment. Please ask your server. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is decent. Lots of parking spots in the back in case the front is full. The spots are pretty wide. Ambiance: The vibes are classy, old school, and warm. It can also be kinda romantic too. I have been here a couple of times on dates. Since it's dimly lit, you and your date can squeeze in a quick smooching sesh. LOL This time though, I came alone. Solo dining FTW. Food: I ordered the Derby calamari as an appetizer. Then, for the entree, I ordered the 16 oz prime rib with a side of creamed corn. For dessert, I ordered the warm whisky bread pudding. The Derby calamari features lightly seasoned calamari rings and tentacles in a perfectly balanced blend of herbs and spices. The golden batter is crispy and light without being greasy or chewy. It was also served with a Bloody Mary cocktail sauce and classic tartar sauce. Get this classic appetizer, y'all. The 16 oz prime rib with a small side of cubed baked sweet potatoes and red and yellow peppers was cooked to medium rare perfection. The prime rib was perfectly seasoned and slow-roasted. The thing practically melted in my mouth. So heavenly! My only complaint was that my prime rib was a bit too salty for my taste. So the cubed baked sweet potatoes and red and yellow peppers did kinda off set the saltiness of the prime rib. I also had this same problem at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland. I hate it when my meat is over salted, but whatever. The creamed corn was such a great side. Definitely upgrade to this premium side if you like corn. It's so worth it. As a massive dork for corn, this was perfection in a dish. Lowkey this was the star dish for me. Not the prime rib, sadly. The dish is fricken sweet, savory, creamy, rich, and comforting. It outshined the prime rib by a mile IMHO. GET THIS DISH! The warm whisky bread pudding was surprisingly really tasty. This is a classic sweet bread pudding drenched in a rich, creamy whiskey sauce. I got this dessert because it was highly recommended by my waiter. Honestly, I can see why this moist, vanilla-based bread pudding with a generous pour of warm, sweet whiskey cream sauce was highly recommended. The whipped cream and single black berry added a nice touch to this dessert too. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, welcoming, informative, and fast. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.
Prime Rib: compared to Lawry's in Beverly Hills, Five Crowns in New Port, or Summit House in Fullerton CA, the steak kinda falls short, but just a tad bit. Found the 16 ounces a little too much. I'd recommend everyone just to stick to the 12 ounces. Sides: Still prefer the cream corn and spinach from Lawry's, but overall still a pretty solid meal. Cocktails: Secretariat was good, but if you get a pre-mixed solution from Sprouts and get a Top Shelf Scotch like the discounted Blue Label at Costco, you can create yourself a pretty good mixer at home. Think I should have went with a Pino Grigio or something. Soups: Solid French Onion Soup, although I wished the soup based had a more potent amount of sherry or Sauvignon Blanc. Overall thoughts: very historical indeed. You walk in here and you immediately feel that old money vibe. It has that Rat Pack era feel, Frank Sinatra Playing in the background, and has that Mr. Walt Disney might hang out here aura. Be prepared to dish out 100+ per person. This place has similar vibes to the speakeasy the Cellar in Fullerton California. But I found the prime rib to lack that melt in your mouth and balance fat to lean ratio that you find at Summit House and Lawry's. Nevertheless, service was AAA, Ally was great. Hosts were all really chill. Will return for the filet mignon next time. Not quite 5 stars, but deserves a 4
The entire experience at Derby was phenomenal. The host and bartenders were exceptionally talented and made the evening both enjoyable and memorable. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was attentive throughout the night. The menu is relatively simple. The quality of their steak is top-notch. Everything we ordered was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The highlights of the evening were the tableside presentations, especially the Baked Alaska, which was both visually stunning and delicious. Watching it being prepared added a special touch to the dining experience. This is definitely a place I would reserve for special occasions. While the experience is worth it, the cost can add up quickly, especially for a party of five or six people. That said, if you're looking for excellent food, great service, and a memorable dining experience, Derby delivers on all fronts.
2nd time visiting 2 weeks later! Reservation made online last minute with some wait time upon check in but understanding larger party we were with youngsters and larger parties before us waiting as well Was seated by the fireplace and giant red squishy booth along the wall in the corner Our Johnny server was very patient and kind. Connected with our party and answered everyone questions whether it related to food or not. Even met an unusual request from my mom which made her extremely happy. Checked up on us regularly and waters were consistently filled. Kids meal range 15-20 but appeared to be a good size and selection range from cheeseburger tender pasta even then one kid size steak! Food drink wise seem to taste slightly off then initial first visit? My Marsala mushroom didn't seem as fresh as it had an off water taste. The french onion soup had more cheese than onion in it that turned into a solid mass making it slightly difficult to eat. Some of the plate fixings were missing. The green beans were not trimmed properly still having some of the stringy ends that are typically inedible. Quality of drinks were ok. Though very much surprise with the baked Alaskan show. Very much a crowd pleaser for both kids and adults. Regardless would still highly recommend and return back in the future. Everyone enjoyed themselves after a long day. Value quality service very much there.
Old-school American steakhouse serving prime rib (that's all I care about) and ofc, steak. It has a similar vibe to Tam O'Shanter, but instead of an Irish feel, it leans more equestrian. The prime rib was absolutely delicious, and I'm glad I don't have to drive far for a good one. I came on a Thursday night for a birthday with no reservations and we were seated pretty quickly. Would definitely get again: Prime rib with potatoes romanoff Brussels sprouts Would NOT get again: Baked Alaska (ice cream with meringue, flambeed with alcohol) The prime rib was perfect. Potatoes romanoff are similar to potatoes au gratin, cheesy and delicious. The brussels sprouts were perfectly crispy. I'd order all of this again. No one in our party had ever tried or heard of Baked Alaska before, so we didn't know what to expect. The birthday girl was very pregnant so I'm surprised this was served to her. We thought the alcohol would burn off but NOPE, it actually does not. The pregnant birthday girl ended up unexpectedly going into labor that night and had her baby the next day. Service was friendly and helpful with recommendations. Parking is ample and free in the lot, and valet is also available.
Came 2 weeks ago on a Saturday with a reservation & we had an amazing dinner experience. Celebrating my birthday & left satisfied & full! We also got the dineLA option 4.5 stars - The prime rib was amazing, very tender & love that there's no blood but was moist. Mash potatoes are good, very garlicy & a little grainy 4 stars - The onion soup was good if you like a strong potent onion flavor! Very brothy & cheesy 4.2 stars - stars Discovered the soup de jour, tomato soup & it was delicious. I like it a little more than the onion soup 4.2 stars - Fried calamari was great, it was crunchy & didn't have a chewy texture. Fried but had a light weight to it 4.5 stars - loved the table side birthday dessert, forgot what it's called. It was a great way to end the dinner
I feel like anytime this much money is spent on one meal, it'd better be at least 4 stars. The Derby has been in Arcadia for over 100 years, so I figured I'd give it a try at least once in my lifetime! It's a dark and dim space- must be a lighting trick. The seats and table settings were clean. Prime Steak Tartare $25 - shallots, dijon, worcestershire sauce, chives, capers, lemon and with focaccia bread. George Woolf's Prime Rib is $58 for 12 oz. ($75 for 16 oz.) and is what you expect, a slow roasted prime rib of beef with au jus and creamed horseradish. I had the Atlantic Salmon $40 - served with beurre blanc sauce, capers, and lemon. This dish is under a sub-menu titled, "Seabiscuit's favorites" - get it!? A menu with a sense of humor. Lamentably, my guest and I have both enjoyed cuts of prime rib, salmon, baked potatoes and garlic cheese bread that have tasted outstanding at other steak houses. Even Clearman's North Woods Inn felt like a better experience and more food for the value. Mandatory valet parking, so be prepared and bring a cash tip.
Love love love this place . So much history ..... Let's start off with the vibe of the place was incredible ... it's a blast in the past but with a modern twist. The staff was great and so was Davey , A+ service , super hospitable and always attentive and making sure we were doing good. The food was great. The apps and the entrees were sooo good , honestly nothing bad to say about the place. All the drinks we ordered were amazing ... just a little though The manhattans and old fashions can be better presented ... Besides that everything was amazing
So I was looking for a good place for prime rib and steak around the LA area and this came about that wasn't too far and too expensive. The Derby was far more than I thought expected for dinner since I was celebrating my mother's birthday. The service was great, the food was outstanding and the place had a nice ambiance with the jockey aesthetic and warm feel. I had their three course meal and I was very satisfied from the Garlic cheese toast to the desert. I started off with a Caesar salad that was fresh and light to start the meal then when it was off to the main course. I had the Bacon wrapped Filet mignon and it was delicious. The Marsala mushrooms along with the crab cakes were great as well. For dessert I had the Banana pudding and it was amazing. It was sweet, warm and light. Over all I was very pleased with my first meal experience here. I will come back again.
I've driven by The Derby countless times and finally decided to give it a try on Valentine's Day for brunch/lunch. The service was great, you're give a cheesy garlic bread to start - pretty tasty. Since we made it for their brunch menu, we decided to give it a try and ordered: Crab cake Benedict 7/10 Steak and eggs 7/10 Fried calamari 6/10 Overall the food was good but didn't sweep me off my feet. The food did take awhile to arrive after hr appetizer was given. I am still interested to return and try their dinner menu.
Great ambience to come with friends, family, or on a date. During Christmas they decorate the place to be really homey and festive. One of my favorite things about the restaurant is the complimentary cheese bread they provide food is comparable to other places but overall pretty good spot to come try. Corkage fee is $20 if you choose to bring your own wine. There's also complimentary valet!
Went for late lunch the last day of Dine LA and the place was packed! The ambiance was def cool, but food service was a bit slow. Do not come here if you're hangry or if you're looking to pop in and pop out quickly. That said, we were there to enjoy a leisurely lunch and that's what we got. The dine LA menu was a little bit of something for everyone and I enjoyed the fancier cobb salad. Dine LA also included a starter and I opted for the soup of the day, which was New England clam chowder; creamy but not overly cream tasting with plenty of clams. Someone else in the party ordered the Brussels sprouts and they were delightful, as was the very cheesy French onion soup. We also decided to order a baked Alaska, because why not? It was good, but I was hoping for the kind with cake. This was just vanilla ice cream and meringue. That said, the group enjoyed it. Drinks were great and the service was very friendly. Ooh, and the bread is soooooo good.
We had reservations during the most busiest time of year .....Christmas Eve .... Our reservation was at 8:15 upon arrival it seemed that the restaurant had overbooked .... However that wasn't the case , though they were packed , the organized and accommodating staff did an amazing job situating all the reservations. It truly felt like a popular place to dine and we were really excited! The restaurant will eventually go through renovation which will essentially house more room and dinners but I'm glad we got to see the vintage classical themes before that takes place. The Christmas menu dinner was amazing ! Food on one side drinks in the other .... Not too overwhelming and not too underwhelming. The prices were decent and note on the menu they also celebrate New Years at The Derby.... Reservations highly recommended. We sat out in the patio area on a rainy cold night but its heated and very nicely decorated felt like a banquet hall but no matter we were there for the food ! The food was amazing , loved all the dishes ordered .... flavors , spices were right on . Highly recommended the side dish of mushrooms with bourbon and the crème of corn to complement your meal. The desserts were very decadent and delicious. Great ambiance and great food !

Since I live nearby, I've dined at The Derby many times over the past decades. I was surprised when I saw I've never reviewed it. It's a classic steakhouse, around since 1922 and once owned by famed jockey George Woolf, with ties to famed racehorse Seabiscuit. I'm not sure if the current building is original, but it looks pretty classic, with brick walls and rooms full of red tufted booths, plus a patio and a popular bar/lounge area that serves the full menu. The Derby is great for a special occasion or a just regular weeknight or weekend meal. We have enjoyed a fine Thanksgiving supper here twice. We most recently came here 3 times in 2 weeks for their Dine LA offer. Their hours have changed over the years; they currently serve dinner 6 nights weekly, lunch on Thurs and Fri and brunch on Sat and Sun. Their menu has also changed over the years; I'd say the current menu has slightly fewer offerings than in the past, but still has great variety. I do miss the Pick-Three and Pick-Six starter options from the past, as well as their carrot cake. I've mostly enjoyed their steaks, but their seafood is good also. I recommend their ribeye, bacon-wrapped filet and prime rib. Love their shrimp cocktail; their cocktail and horseradish sauces pack quite a kick. Most recently, I love their brussels sprouts starter and their Friday soup of the day, New England Clam Chowder. And I ALWAYS get the creamed spinach and creamed corn sides--absolute classics. We did the DineLA lunch most recently, and I thoroughly enjoyed the prime rib French Dip, the Derby burger (with delish candied bacon and crispy onions), and the salmon. Join their VIP Club and you'll get a free Baked Alaska dessert during your birthday month. Service is always excellent and consistent, from the host desk and main waiters to the food servers and busboys. There've long been plans for a reimagining of the restaurant to become part of a mixed-use commercial/residential complex. Supposedly this will start in 2026; the restaurant will be demolished and rebuilt as a larger space. Apparently (and sadly) the restaurant building does not have historic status. I think The Derby will operate in a temporary location during construction. Hopefully the new restaurant's design will retain some classic charm of the original. read more

I made a reservation since it's the dine LA week and there's a special three course menu! - French onion soup: very cheesy (lovely!) and very flavorful! It's a bit salty but the flavors (the caramelized onions, the cheese, and the soup) come together really well with depth in texture and finishes off with an umami aftertaste. - Prime rib with an addition of the pan seared jumbo diver scallop: the scallop is very delicate and seared to perfection- not rubbery at all. With simple seasoning, it truly brings out the seafood flavor! The prime rib is a must! Every bite is so tender and juicy - absolutely perfect! For my side, I opted for veggies - perfectly roasted. - Chocolate cake: rich chocolate! If you like chocolate, can't go wrong with this. Service was amazing! Also they have those turning tables so you don't have to squeeze your way into the seats. Big parking lot at the back - valet and self parking available. read more
Amazing steakhouse, amazing food and amazing service. For the price, it is on the higher end but the portions you get are worth every penny. You get large portions. The prime rib is delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly (medium rare). Very tender and juicy. Get the 16oz highly recommend, even if you take it home it's still juicy and tender the next day. The ribeye is equally as delicious. Very tender and juicy, flavorful and just melts in your mouth. I highly recommend adding the lobster tail, don't be steered away from the price. We got a huge lobster tail that was tender and fresh. Service is amazing from the front desk to the servers. Our server today was Michael and he was superb. Very friendly, quick, and even created an insulated cup for us to take our tea home. read more

Growing up in the 626 but never would have thought to stumble upon here. We were looking for a nice dinner and this happened to show up on Yelp. Located in Arcadia pretty close to the Racetrack, this feels like a "historic" restaurant that pays tribute to the races to nearby. There was a whole glass wall of the history of the races and all, but I didn't look too closely since we were seated immediately haha. We were initially thinking of sitting indoors but it was already all full at 6pm on a Sunday night. Although, there was plenty of outdoor patio seating that also feels like an extension of the inside. They made a very nice area for the "outside"! Our waiter was quite attentive of us and would check on us frequently. When we weren't ready to order yet, they even offered this garlic cheese toast that was reallllyyyy good. It was melted so nicely, the garlic was so fragrant, it was really delicious. We could eat so many of these lol. So we ordered the three course meal, which was an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For the price of $67 per person, it's very well worth it! I ordered a french onion soup, prime rib, and the cheesecake. My bf ordered the calamari, filet mignon with scallops, and the bread pudding. It didn't take too long for our meal to arrive bc we were too busy eating the garlic cheese toast haha so good! Our appetizers came first, which was the calamari and french onion soup. I never had this type of soup before, so I was really interested in trying. I didn't realize how cheesy it was either! Although, the flavor was generally salty at first, but the more you drink it, it's pretty good! I quite enjoyed it and it made me even so much more full having this and the garlic cheese toast lol. The calamari was also pretty good too, very crispy and the sauces they offered paired with it so well! Then came our entrees. I tried the prime rib first and honestly it's pretty good! Although I would say I had better prime ribs before, but this was already pretty good for the price. It could have been softer and melts more in your mouth, but the quality itself is still pretty nice. i also had this garlic mashed potatoes and wow it's extremely garlic-y. I enjoyed it! My bf also really enjoyed the filet mignon and the fries he ordered. It really made him extremely full cause he was determined to finish it haha. We were stuffed, but we also have dessert next. I had the cheesecake and my bf had the bread pudding. This may be my least favorite portion, the cheesecake was nice at first, but the crust on the bottom is very thin, I wish it had more! The cheesecake itself also didn't feel that smooth, it would clump up the longer it sits. So the consistency wasn't all that smooth and rich as I hoped it to be. It was also very strong in almond flavor. My bf's bread pudding was nice to try, but gets overwhelming the more you eat it. We weren't too into the whiskey syrup, but maybe if we both enjoyed whiskey a lot more, then we would have appreciated it more haha. To sum up, the desserts were just okay, but nice to try. Overall, the meal was very delicious! For the price of this set meal, it's also very well worth what you're getting. Atmosphere, service, quality, and price point were all great. Definitely a gem in Arcadia. read more

First time visiting for a birthday celebration & we had a wonderful time. This steakhouse has been around for over 100 years! It had a classic, vintage feel with horse racing memorabilia, excellent service & delicious food. It was opened by a jockey & located near the Santa Anita race tracks. We enjoyed everything we ordered: Brussels Sprouts, Shrimp Cocktail, Bacon Wrapped Filet & the Birthday dessert Flaming Baked Alaska. read more

There is valet parking here or you can self-park. The exterior is just as interesting as the inside. It was a nice formal but not overly fancy. Definitely a great place for an anniversary or birthday dinner. That staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. The food arrives at a well paced time. The Derby bread at the start is one of the best I've had at restaurants. Just the right amount of butter and garlic that makes you keep wanting more. It's always nice and toasty. I got the dine LA menu set. The brussel sprouts are really good, slightly crispy. Although this time I wanted to try the Chef Sal's spiced meatballs. I don't normally eat meatballs and this one took away before getting used to the spice combination. It's pretty good. And it wasn't heavy nor a dense ball of meat. The bacon-wrapped filet mignon was good and actually medium rare, compared to other businesses. Our server made sure the steaks were toasty our liking. The bacon was okay. The rice pilaf was good. You definitely get a decent portion. I took my dessert to-go. They made sure I knew the re-heating process. Bread pudding is also delicious. Overall, I really enjoy eating at the Derby each time. They always make you feel welcomed. read more

Fun old school spot with good food and great people. Plenty of seating for groups and lots of bar space if you're looking for cocktails. I got a NY strip with bernaise and a baked potato. Meat was cooked just how I asked and the bernaise was great. Ordered some brussel sprouts to start which were also tasty. They paired well with the steak too. Definitely stop in if you enjoy some cool decor and tasty bites. The bartenders were Johnny on the spots and always made sure my beer was cold and full. read more

The Derby lives on! This place better stay put for my grandkids! My family has been coming to the Derby for over 40 years. My grandparents loved the Derby and our parents have us addicted. Can't beat the memories, nostalgia, Santa Anita Race Track, overall family vibes at the Derby. The Customer Service base is phenomenal. I have not had 1 bad experience yet and I should have kept everyone in the loop of this gem. The food is always top notch. The wait staff, genuine. I love Christmas time because of all the decorations. It was actually my first time getting brunch here and I loved it. Filet Mignon, eggs, potatoes - Delicious. Calamari was superb. Not too chewy and had flavor. I tried the Egg Nog, yes, you know, gooood. Dessert was the warm apple pie. We shared and forgot the pic, but you need to try this pie! Coming back in 2026! read more
We came here for a Happy Mother's Day dinner and it was very crowded so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND making a RESERVATION... PARKING: You have a choice of free valet parking with optional & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED tips because they seem VERY EXHAUSTED or you can self park with a farther walk but, it wasn't too bad of a walk to begin with so if you are capable please just self park and get some exercise! You'll need after eating the PRIME RIB ;) We did the 3 course special: My party of 4 ordered 2 prime ribs, a filet mignon and the Arcadian which is beef tenderloin slices with scallops. PRIME RIB: Is the STAR OF THE SHOW is was in my hubby's opinion at LAWRY'S LEVEL The FRIED CALAMARI was unique! It was straight like fish sticks and very appetizing... DESSERT: CHEESECAKE for the win! THE FOOD came out very slowly so you will need to have patience and try not to get HANGRY... I'm not sure if there was a DRESS CODE but, I just wore a nice top with some jeans and booties. I got some stares from other parties and servers so I wonder if I was underdressed? I mean it's a STEAKHOUSE so technically the dress code should be WESTERN ;) EVEN if I was underdressed I was capable of buying everything in the menu if I wanted to and I did help cover the TIP of $65 for my party so NEVER judge a book by it's cover. read more
Having another client meeting here- the ambience is very nice- Christmas decor is everywhere. We felt a little upset because the waitress at the front didn't pay enough attention to us and we literally waited almost 25 mins to get seated for a reservation- as was told they need to prepare for our table from party of 5 to party of 6. The food is very delicious, we ordered the special ribeye, filet mignon, salmon, and the famous baked Alaska. read more

The Derby is exactly the kind of neighborhood restaurant you hope to find -- welcoming, consistent, and quietly confident in what it does well. The standout for us has been the slow roasted prime. The beef quality is excellent, roasted properly, juicy and deeply flavorful without being heavy-handed. What really elevates the dish, though, is the execution of the sides. The carrots and asparagus are cooked perfectly -- tender but not soft, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully balanced to complement the richness of the meat rather than compete with it. It's a detail that shows care and experience in the kitchen. The tuna tartare is another highlight. Fresh, clean, and well-balanced, with nothing overpowering the quality of the fish. It's the kind of dish that feels simple on the surface but clearly relies on good sourcing and restraint. Service here deserves special mention. It's warm, professional, and genuinely attentive without hovering. Every recommendation we've received has been excellent, which says a lot about how well the staff understands the menu. My wife and I have been here twice now, and each visit has offered a slightly different experience -- not because of inconsistency, but because the restaurant has depth. It feels like a place you can return to regularly and continue discovering new favorites. Overall, The Derby strikes a rare balance: high-quality food, thoughtful execution, and a friendly, neighborhood feel. Friends & family took me out for my birthday, and had a good time at the derby, our waiter was friendly and polite, he was quick to help us answer any questions we had. The restaurant was decorated nicely for the fall. Food came out cooked to order and tender as can be. A sweet older lady who used to be a server stopped by our table to say hi, she even mashed our baked potato. Old skills put back to work :) . Came to The Derby in Arcadia excited to try the prime rib. Drove half an hour specifically for it after seeing some pictures and seeing that it was available for Dine LA. Although we had a reservation, we waited for a table about 40 minutes because it was a busy night. Shortly after sitting down, the waiter came around to introduce himself and I ask him if there is any prime rib left; he assures me there is. When he comes back to take our order: he has checked with the kitchen - one is in the oven, but it may take a half hour to come out. Great! We order. Salads and appetizers arrive, and he comes back again with an update: actually the prime rib will be ready in 10 minutes, so it should be perfect timing. Even better! At this point, things start to go awry. Across the room has a very unhappy guest calls the manager over and they argue about something at length. A few minutes after that scene, our waiter comes back to our table and apologies: oh, we actually don't have any prime rib left -- it's too rare and we can't grill it without making it tough, sorry. The staff then bring about something that looks suspiciously like prime rib to the complaining table! So... after telling me multiple times that yes, prime rib is available, yes, it's coming, then yes, it'll be perfect timing -- now it's suddenly "not available." Honestly, it felt pretty obvious they gave the prime rib they'd promised to me to the complaining table . And if that's what happened, fine -- but really, why lie to me as a guest? The waiter then asks if we'd like to cancel our orders, i.e., would we like to leave without having eaten anything but salad? By now, it's 9:30pm, after we came in at 8:00pm; it's late out and the only thing open now is fast food. I stare at the menu and nothing sounds good because I was looking forward to prime rib for hours now. Reluctantly, I ask for the ribeye as a replacement. He comes back after talking to the manager and says there will be a $20 additional charge because it's not on the Dine LA menu. I was shocked, but I agreed because... what else am I supposed to do at that point? The ribeye finally comes out grisly and tough -- not even close to worth the detour, the wait, or the upcharge. My partner's filet mignon also is dried out, obvious that they fired it an hour ago when the prime rib was supposed to come out and left it under a heat lamp to dry out. We paid the bill and still left a tip, but we walked out kind of stunned at how many missteps happened in one dinner. We ended up eating at 10pm after coming in at 8pm and basically wasted our whole night for a subpar meal, been strung along and possibly lied to, and left with a bad taste in our mouths. read more

I stopped by this place while driving home from work and needed a break from traffic, so I sat in the bar area and ordered a couple different appetizers, which were really good! The Bone Marrow was a larger portion than I would see in most places that I've been too, and the Bacon Wrapped Dates are a given so they were good as well. I didn't get a main entree because I couldn't justify the cost of what they were charging. The bartender was kind enough to put the Ducks game on the tv, which was awesome, and the restaurant looked like a nice place to take a date. read more

The derby is truly a staple to Arcadia. We lucked out on a great price for the 3 course meal. The service & the food is food. The ambiance is vintage and the lighting is rather dark. However, I think the derby is something to experience if you're in the neighborhood. read more
One of my favorite restaurants, where the food is amazing and the service is incredible. Located near the Santa Anita race track, you are immediately transported surrounded by all the history and memorabilia. The staff goes above and beyond consistently every time to ensure your experience is memorable. The food is amazing down to the very last bite. Starting with the garlic cheese bread, which you must pair with the iceberg salad. It's fresh and every ingredient compliments one another. Super refreshing and I definitely recommend having them chop it up. If you don't know what to order, you can never go wrong with the steak that made the derby famous. The bacon wrapped filet is tender, juicy, and flavorful. I pair it with the garlic mashed potatoes and it comes with carrots and some onion rings. Really fantastic. Now for dessert, I insist on the baked Alaska. Not only is it delicious, but there's a wow factor to it. The top part is like a merengue similar to a s'mores and the bottom is vanilla ice cream. Definitely worth trying at least once. Prices are reasonable for a steak house. Overall, the derby continues to impress and I will definitely be back! read more

We came for Easter Brunch and had a very nice dining experience. The staff was great and Quentin our server was excellent and very engaging. We had the steak and eggs and along with the sides, appetizer, and dessert made for a delicious meal. read more

Went here in a big group and the experience was so amazing. The dining area was comfortable and festive, the lighting was warm and easy on the eyes. Everything on the table was clean and well set. It was aesthetically pleasing to look at. The servers were all very attentive and friendly. They did a spectacular job at clearing our table when we were done with appetizers or drinks. And It didn't feel like we had to wait too long for our food despite the number of people in our group. Our server Josh especially made an impression on us, making polite and engaging conversations with our group. The food was great as well. The iceberg wedge lettuce was surprisingly very good and flavorful for a salad. I had their salmon and my partner had the prime rib. Both were cooked perfectly and very flavorful. The kitchen killed it. 10/10 would come again. read more

Steakhouse in Arcadia. Didn't know about it but wanted to go during the last DineLA promotion but couldn't due to other obligations. This time, just the other day in fact, I made it. If you're thinking of going, reservations! Or you can try your luck at the bar or there's the terrace outside. It was pouring rain when I went, so I opted for the bar and lucked out. Not tables available but there were a few open stools at the bar. Meaning, service was awesome. Sarita was my bartender/server. She was attentive, nice and full of information with my questions about the place. She made suggestions and pours a mean drink. Boozy is how I'd describe it and it went with my meal of read meat. Some seafood too. See pics. Food was great too. Beef served as requested. Rare. Opted for the Scampi - a little overdone for my taste but not to the point of chewing on rubber. Chose the Romanoff for one of my sides as well as the bread pudding for dessert. Let's just say I didn't finish it all. Enjoyed it heated up the next day. Have to admit, I was surprised it held up the day after. It's complimentary valet parking. Unless you want to park somewhere close by and walk. Finally made it and I wasn't disappointed. It's pretty far from home and work but I'd stop in again if I was in the area or if someone made plans to meet up there. read more

Ambiance & service was top notch. If you want a low lit place and slightly more classiness, adorn with the derby decorations, you will like this place. Food was upscale with the meats being very tender. We had the LAdine menu and got the following: Salmon Atlantic: It was good, but not amazing. The salmon was a little overcooked. There wasn't any wow factors in the flavor. Green beans were cooked to perfection. (4/5) French Onion Soup: loved that it wasn't too salty (4/5) Prime Rib with mash potatoes: it lacked herbs and the mash potatoes were watery for my taste. However, the prime rib was very tender. (3/5) Alaskan Dessert: loved the meringue and ice cream with the presentation of the flame (4/5) Cheesecake: the best part of the meal! Would go back for this (5/5) Overall, everything tasted more on the bland side, but that is a preference. I can see many people liking it and it is romantic. Wow! Checked out this place with one of my best friends for Dine LA Summer 2025 and was blown away by the amazing service, delicious food and lively ambiance. I've been to a similar place in the valley that is historic and is known for its steak but I have to say I prefer The Derby more. The staff was super friendly and attentive, especially when we had questions about other paired wine options for the entrees. Our server Adam was very nice, and made us feel right at home throughout our evening, making sure we had bread, and were ready our next entree/dessert. The place wasn't too dim/dark, and although the derby has been around for over 100 years, the ambiance was lively and busy with different folks from a broad range of backgrounds and ages. I thought the dine LA 3 course option for $67 per person was an amazing deal. We both ordered the Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon per recommendations on Yelp and friends and it was definitely the move for our first time there! The whiskey bread pudding was warm and rich which was the cherry on top for a delicious meal. I can't wait to come back and try out their brunch as well as bring more friends and family! This may have been my first time at a the Derby but it definitely will not be the last. read more

They do have seafood that's likely gluten free. They made the rosemary chicken without bread crumbs for me once, but denied my request another time. Guess it depends on who the chef is the night you're there.
What's the dress code? Or what is the attire?
Business casual. Just bring a Sport or casual jaques. The atmosphere of this place invites you to do so.
Does The Derby work with any food delivery platform? And/Or do they offer take out menus?
They did during Covid, but no longer appear to do so.
Do you still offer DineLA? I thought it ended on July 26. But I still see the menu on your website.
They have a 3 course prix fixe dinner for $65 which is outstanding. Served Tuesday through Sunday staring at 4PM. An excellent deal.
Happy hour times? Any food specials then too?
Happy hour is 3-6pm on Thursday and Friday, 4-6pm all other days. We are closed on Mondays. Happy hour food and drinks specials are available in our bar, lounge and patios only.
What's the dress code?
Nice casual. Shorts and baseball caps would be out of place but jeans and t-shirt ok.
Is prime rib on the lunch menu, or is it just served during dinner?
Since they open at 4 on weekends yes you can get the Prime rib but as fall as know it's available all the time . Great delicious food here . So no matter what you order you'll definitely be satisfied and please with their delicious fd and service

Tes! But not on Thanksgiving or Christmas

No, we are not currently required to ask for vaccine documentation.

It's during DineLa Restaurant week, which is going on now until Oct 15th.

I believe it was $20 when we were there on 4-17-21.

Hi there I was just curious is there spacing between table ? Like one table will be empty and so forth?
Last time we were there (a couple weeks ago), they only had patio dining and the tables were spaced apart, but no empties in between. The patio is covered.
