In Nashville for the next few days on business but hope to do plenty of eating and drinking (lol) which means more Yelp reviews! After asking for recommendations for breakfast at the hotel, The Diner received multiple votes. Pretty chill and quiet on a weekday morning but great people there and great service. Decided to head up to the 6th floor for my meal but could also have ate right on the floor level. As you see pictured, went for the hot chicken and waffles which was fantastic. Luckily I was realistic and ordered the mild because let me tell you it was spicy! I like spicy but my tolerance definitely would not have handled the "hot" well. Friends and I came here for breakfast as a back up after our original plan had a long wait time. We ended up on the 6th floor. We sat down and it took at least 10 minutes before we got water. We decided to place our drink orders and food orders immediately since service seemed slow, but then about 10 minutes later our drinks and food came out all together. We each got the holiday cranberry spiked mimosa, which was...interesting. We don't know if the champagne they use is just not a great tasting brand or what the deal is. My friend said she got a "shiver" of disgust after each sip. Coffee was burnt and just not good. Our food was bland - not bad, but not good either. After the fact, we did notice that most people left with most of their meals remaining on their plates. I wrote this whole thing waiting for our check to come - the review was done and we still didn't get the check. Overall, not great - you'd be better off going somewhere else. Update: we may have found mold on my friend's bread of her breakfast sandwich. We asked the waitress and she was really nice about it and took that meal off of our bill. read more

This review is only based on service and the cafe drinks (coffee & shakes). The first time we stopped into The Diner was on Christmas morning for a coffee. The place was really busy but we found a couple seats at the bar. The bartender/the coffee maker guy behind the bar gave us great service. He had such a great attitude and was really pleasant. The brownie that we had was very good, but the s'mores shake was just ok. I would've tried a boozy shake but their sizes are so large and obviously you can't take those to go. The second time I stopped here was 6 months later in the Summer. Still great service behind the bar. Coffee was alright. In general I feel like this is a nice place to have in your back pocket when you want a 15-20 min break from walking around the city. It's a quick stop at the bar for a coffee, and the staff are always friendly. read more

I can't believe this place has so many negative reviews! I came here twice on a four day trip and enjoyed it both times! Yes, when you enter it's a little weird and the hostess has to tell you where to go. We took the elevator to the 6th floor both visits. For breakfast visit: Chicken and biscuits. It was recommended we try mild, and I'm glad I did because mild had quite the kick! The waitress was initially a little rough around the edges, but the service was great! For drink visit: Broadway Bride and Ginger Buffalo. The bartender was attentive and polite. And that night time view just can't be beat. The only negative was the sticky floor... like, frat house sticky. Time to get the mop out for a deep clean. read more

Very surprised that this place has only 3 stars! All of the items we ordered were great. The bartender offered us amazing service and made my SoBro coffee to perfection (salted caramel and mocha latte). My entree was the creole Mahi Mahi, which was a very generous portion of fish that was cooked perfectly and laid on a bed of grits with a Cajun sauce. The grits were amazing and the cajun sauce was perfectly flavored. My dad got the Philly cheesesteak and loved it, he said it had lots of onions and red peppers. His side was the mashed potatoes which were buttery and delectable. Last but not least was the shrimp and grits, which are highly recommended. They have the same creole/Cajun sauce as the Mahi and come with about 8 very large spiced shrimp. I would definitely recommend this place. Great music too and decor too! Overall 3/5: We visited here because it was the only place that had availability for a party of our size around brunch time. There were several floors so now we see why. It is huge. Drinks 3/5: They also offered mimosas which we were excited about. Only to get them and have them be straight sugar. They were just sugar purée and hardly any champagne. You could tell because the consistency was extremely thick and it left an ill feeling in your mouth everytime we sipped it. Food 3/5: My boyfriend and I ordered the scrambler and the hot chicken and waffle. Everything was extremely bland and unseasoned. Not impressed with The Diner. We came for breakfast and I was very disappointed that they only make scrambled eggs. They have written in bold letters- no substitutions on their menus items which tells me that don't care about making sure their customers are getting a good food experience. I ordered the Egg scramble and was able to add cheese onto the eggs, but they still managed to be bland. The sausage was greasy and not very flavorful. The biscuits were just okay but tiny. The six floors of restaurant is novel but the experience is not worth the bother of having to take an elevator to another floor to get service. If it's late at night and you are drunk then this place is perfect., Otherwise, try someplace else if you want a true "diner" experience. read more

This is a pretty amazing restaurant with 6 floors that each have slightly different menus. 1st and 6th floor is open seating the rest require a reservation. We went here for brunch on a Saturday morning. The place was not extremely busy. The menu is limited and you can only get scrambled eggs. What diner does not have different styles of eggs? We have scrambled eggs with sausage and potatoes. The food was OK. We had to ask for coffee and later ask for a refill. For a slow day, that was a bit surprising. The Diner has always been a classic late night food option for all the times I have been on Broadway. This has probably been my third visit to this place and they keep the same classy food. The serve a typical southern style American food with a few good pasta options. They have good cocktails to try out too. They have a 4-tier seating arrangement and it's not always easy to get the table with a view especially if you are a party of 7. They also have a small menu for beers on the tap. I believe they have a wider selection of beers on the top floor but never been there. Overall a great place to hangout after you party hard across the Broadway and finally hungry for food. Do not let the name fool you, this is not your average diner! We ate dinner on the 6th floor, so my experience is based on that level. Level 1 looks like a beautifully decorated 50s diner. The 6th floor is a more modern vibe. We don't live in the Central Time Zone, so we are off on our schedule. We are at 445/5, so also keep in mind the bar was basically empty. Our server was a nice guy, and took great care of us. He made meal suggestions and helped me decide what to order. The ONLY issue I had with them is that they don't have any bottled water. I do not drink restaurant water, I can't stand water that has a taste. I drink a LOT of water each day and I was very thirsty when I left! But the food and service made up for it! I ordered the Rattlesnake Pasta which thankfully is made with shaved chicken! It was SO GOOD! I ate every bite! My husband ordered the Louisiana Shrimp Boil, and he loved his too. I hate to give this place such a low rating but it was not a positive experience. First, the positives, it is a nice restaurant and I loved the roll up doors/windows so you were basically sitting on a balcony. It is obviously a nice place. Very modern bathrooms. My friend's food was good (shrimp alfredo) and the gumbo was good. Negatives, the server had NO personality and the service was terrible. We waited FOREVER to pay and finally had to flag down a different server to give them our money. Though the bathroom was modern and nice, it was a mess. The towel dispenser was broken and there was a pile of towels by the door. My entree was inedible. I got the Mahi Mahi and it was sooooo overcooked. The grits were gross. Let me say that I am NOT a picky eater at all, so I'm not just being critical. I literally ate 3 bites and left it sitting on the table. I didn't send it back or anything. Came here the Saturday of CMA Fest weekend. Place was packed but we sat at the bar on the 6th floor. Staff was attentive to all which says a lot in such a busy place. I had the waffles with strawberries which was a good sized portion with maple syrup. I enjoyed it. The hot chicken came out and had a nice spice (maybe a medium in my book) and had the flavor that I remembered from Prince's (where I first had Nashville Hot Chicken where the medium there was hotter than any other of the Hot's I had on my trip). Four floors of upscale diner food. I'm in! This was the go to for a late night out in DT. The Diner is open until 3:30am and is the perfect spot to soak up the booze after a long night out or cure that pesky hangover. We decided to eat on the first floor after about 30 wasted people loaded up the two elevators and we could still hear them on their way up. I ordered the Philly cheese steak and it was very good and a huge portion. Have I had better cheesesteaks? of course, but this scratched the salty, cheesy itch. We were seated on the 2nd floor and got a great view of the street to people watch. The menu isn't that big, but what we ordered was pretty good. The service was great, they were very attentive and kind. The food came out quickly, and my favorite part of the meal was the biscuits and gravy. I loved that they put the gravy on the side, instead of drowning the biscuits in it. It was so tasty that I ended up dipping everything on my plate in the gravy. He asked for crackers which were located on the 6th floor. By the time they ran to the 6th floor and got back with them the gumbo wasn't hot anymore. The sweet tea was good. My grandson got chicken tender basket. Dipping sauce wasn't even offered. We didn't get any cocktails and our bill was $97. We had a late night snack at the Diner to avoid the congestion parking garage - good call because we were able to do something productive instead of sitting in a garage waiting to leave for three hours. We were seated on the 6th floor bar and they even let my 10 year old in (we were worried about that post-concert). The late night menu was pretty limited, but there were definitely good options. We all split the chicken and waffles and an order of cheese fries. The hot chicken was very hot! I definitely wanted some Blue cheese but never has a chance to ask for it - the bar was packed!
