This place is packed on Sunday morning! It is great for kids - chocolate chip pancakes! The service is a little slow, which is to be expected in such a busy place. The food was excellent. This is an elevated diner that is perfect for a casual breakfast. I have been here twice this summer, both times with my family, because they like traditional diner breakfast food over the brunch menus you'll find elsewhere on 18th Street. The first time, I got Migas, and it was good but not spectacular. The coffee is great but the servers are so busy they don't refill it as much as I'd like for how long we sat there. The second time I went I got a grilled cheese and THAT was awesome. I subbed out fried for potato chips and the combination of the greasy grilled cheese plus bacon with the greasy chips was exactly what I needed on a Sunday morning. It's a great diner, and it's amazing that it's open 24 hours a day three days a week! Great for late-night food if you don't want jumbo slice and want something filling. Overall, can't go wrong here and I would recommend! When my dad is back in town in October, we will definitely return. read more

I don't get the hype. The milkshakes are the only thing worth the hype, and unfortunately for me, a milkshake alone at a diner does not make the rating. The food was uneven, mostly marked by large portions. Chili and liquid cheese tater tots are either exactly as delicious or exactly as disgusting as you'd imagine; the Cobb salad was huge and pretty decent, the adult banana milkshake was quite forgettable. Friends had the crazy two hot dog meal and some other less memorable items, and of the rest of the shakes, the peanut butter was superb, the rest didn't quite gather as much praise. read more

Alright this review will be short and sweet because I have very little memory of my actual time here after pouring myself into the diner after prolonged happy hour. I split the Money Cristo and the Patty Melt. Both were delicious, but if I had to choose, Monte Cristo hands down. I couldn't finish my half of either sandwich. I know there was a bourbon milkshake at our table and there may have been a second one. It was soooo good. There was also a biscuit and gravy at our table. In my experience the gravy has been a country gravy, which this wasn't, so it wasn't our favorite dish, but still good. Would love to come back sober. read more

I liked it a lot! This isn't a typical diner I am (or most of us?) used to. It's hard to explain... but I really enjoyed being here at 4:00 in the morning and my food! Glad to be able to experience the D.C. after club experience lol If you decide to come here and end up not liking it, there are other places (ok maybe a place) that are open so you'll be able to get food in the stomach either way! This is my go-to place! Since moving to DC from Jersey, I have missed the traditional diner scene. The Diner has filled that void with 24/7 service and a delicious menu. Even after switching to a plant-based diet, I still love coming here. It's a seat yourself type place with booths and a bar area. They are really affordable and serve breakfast all day and night. This was my first time eating at this diner. Our greeter was very fast in accomadating us to a table and our server was very fast in providing drinks and food options. The food came out very quickly and they were large portions. What i really enjoyed about this diner was there music choices that they were playing in the background. My sister and I were looking for a late night meal and we somehow ended up on Adams Morgan...yet again. I got The Ragin' Cajun and my sister got the Fried Chicken and French Toast. We waited a long while for our meals but when it did come, it was good. I loved the shrimp in the omelette. Everything else was okay. Same goes for the service. I feel like they were short-staffed. My first time for breakfast. To me a typical authentic diner. But, I was impressed that I was handed a drink menu along with the food menu. I ordered the chic breakfast biscuit. Although I had to walk next door to Tryst for a latte. This restaurant and the Diner are owned by the same folks. The meal was fresh and filling and went down with a thud! I usually come here for breakfast whether it's morning noon or early evening however I decided to have lunch and I got the kale salmon salad I was not disappointed in the salad. Drat I forget the name of this pink drink that's similar to a long island but it's right nice. I'm yet looking for another. They have a lot of good food here. Sinking into a squeaky booth with people I barely know--just talking about the calorie-rich food and its simple wonders--stuffing my face with the fluffy blueberry pancakes, downing them with coffee--this experience at The Diner is as close as I can get to describing the phenomenology of satisfaction. The patience of the waiting staff (despite how full the restaurant was), contributed to the positive experience I had. But I have to admit that the degree of satisfaction I derive from The Diner is conditional on the ambience and the people--without it, the menu's rather high price points didn't fit its namesake. While I've had fun here, it remains unclear whether my monetary valuation of a short stack + coffee would be the same in different conditions. read more

They didn't give pick-up instructions till the day before, which was a liitle concerning, but due to a particularly pleasant staff person, it turned out ok. The food was well packed and re-heating instructions were clear. The food, for the most part was mediocre. The stringbeans, rolls, and cranberry compote were the best oart of the meal. The turkey tasted like ordinary deli sliced turkey. The stuffing was hard and bland. The 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes tasted good but seemed stingy for 2 people. The gravy was gluey. On splurge days, end with then dense and caramelly bread pudding or a boozy milkshake. Service is inconsistent, varying from friendly and sparkling to brusk. When I ate meat, I remember their rib special and pulled pork as the classic sweet/smiley/savory blend I expected. And tender bits of meat studded the collard greens. I got the friend green caprese. The flavors were an interesting mix, but they were complimentary. I wish they just had a side of fried green tomatoes because they were definitely the star of the dish. Then I got a veggie omelette. It was HUGE. I wasn't blown away with the omelette, especially after the caprese. It was okay. The veggies were fine but not very flavorful. The egg part was tasty. The cheese was all on one side. It was good but I'll probably get huevos rancheros next time. The biscuit was also pretty tasty. It's dry on its own so make sure you butter it up or put jelly or something on it. Mmmmm. It was good. Although they didn't have the skates or the jukebox they still manage to have that old time dinner feel with cute red seating booths and bar stools. Once we got there there was a little bit of a line so we had to wait about (10-15). Once inside we were seated within 5mins. Our waitress was very prompted and pleasant. The menu was full of breakfast and dinner meals for your choosing. After going over a few things on the menu our waitress took our orders we were set. Once our food arrived I was in heaven after the first bite. That bread pudding french toast was EVERYTHING!!! I ended up getting a kids size because I was greedy and wanted tater tots (yea i know, but it was worth it) I've never had french toast so good. it was soft, moist and mmm good. The tater tots did not disappoint either. Cooked just right. Crispy golden brown on the outside and soft potato goodness on the inside. I had to balance everything our with the sauteed spinach, which was also great! The best part of the evening was the bill. Bread pudding french toast, tater tots and sauteed spinach came out to be about $11 bucks! Haven't been here maybe 10 years but breakfast was great. As an appetizer had The French toast sticks made out of bread pudding was amazing. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. With a delightful citrus whip cream. Can't wait to come back and have a lot more of the French toast as entrée. My husband love the blueberry pancakes. I had the breakfast tots--eggs on top of a scramble of mushrooms/ (too many pickled) jalapeños eggs and cheese topped w/eggs. Though I tried to keep it healthier by cutting out the bacon and cheese, of course that took away from the dish. In the future Since you can get tater tot's at a lot of places now so I would stick with the bread pudding French Toast! read more

Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive, and the food was excellent (and the proportions just right -- I'm one of those people who don't like huge portions, and here everything was just enough). The food we received was cold, overpriced (46 dollars for coffee and two small breakfast plates), waitstaff was not friendly, basic asks like extra crispy bacon were ignored, staff didn't bring out sweetener for coffee when asked, then when asked again 20 min later brought a sweetener cup full of mostly old used sweetener wrappers.
