They took a day to get back to me and told me they would not send me a confirmation unless THEY cancel. 5. They finally did cancel, which is fine. But they do not offer refunds if they cancel - which is on their website. But not cool. 6. I think they should offer out of towners a refund if they cancel. 7. Filed my claim today and I hope it gets approved. Otherwise, out about $600. 8. I am sure I will book again one day and I hope it's fun. I've always wanted to do a "murder mystery" type dinner, and the Dinner Detective checked this one off my bucket list! The event was held at a hotel downtown Dallas in one of the conference rooms. The event had a cash bar (cocktails and beer), and a four course meal. There were pass hors d'oeuvres before the event began. Once you were seated at your assigned table, they began the meal with a salad. The croutons were stale. I didn't touch my salad after a few bites. For the entree, we had a choice between fish or chicken, so my fiancé and I ordered one of each. For our event, the option was a grilled salmon with a side of broccolini, or grilled chicken breast with a side of house potatoes. Overall, the entrees were better than expected, but nothing to really rave about. For dessert, they sliced up 4 different types of cakes for each person to sample. They were pretty standard. The venue had valet parking, but you can find a spot via SpotHero to self park. The men and women ("detectives") leading the mystery hunt made the whole night enjoyable! This is a PG-13 event and there were some inappropriate jokes tossed round. We laughed so much, and got to meet a lot of nice people! FYI, you will need to get out of your seat to "interrogate" the people in the room to try to figure out who the "killer" is. purchased NON REFUNDABLE tickets to show plus insurance for said tickets. unforeseen circumstances prevent my party from going to show and the insurance won't cover with just the reason that people can not make the event. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!! They got me for $350 so make sure that if you buy tickets you don't let life get in the way and cause you to not make the show. oh, and to reschedule cost yet another fee of $20 per ticket. pretty neat money making plan if you ask me. will NEVER RECOMMEND any business that partners with such a scam type insurance company as Allianz. again, BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! read more

Entertainment/show set up: I would preference saying the show I attended leans heavily on comedy with mystery. Think Who's Line is It Anyway with a murder to solve. The show is presented with a constant interactive element. Unknowingly, Actors will be sitting at your table and it's up to the audience to speak with those around them and at other tables to solve the crime. So be prepared to participate to share in the experience rather than being a passive viewer. Different clues will be given to you through a QR code so make sure to have your device charged and ready. The time you have to talk and work on the clues will be given to you as you are served your food. With that being said: Feedback on the show: I was thoroughly entertained and laughing continuously through out the show. The actors were phenomenal especially the detectives. It was like being apart of a comedy detective show. The detectives would interact with the audience which elevated the whole experience. Food: I was nervous about the food since I saw the previous Yelp reviews about the food being awful. The food is catered by the hotel. The food was good! Nothing unique but feel like something that would be served at a wedding (ya know pick fish, chicken, or veggie option). Dessert was delicious as well. And they do accommodate for allergies, my friend is GF and they ensured everything was safe for her to consume (no issues). Summary: Just be prepared that it is more comedy entertainment rather than just mystery. I was confused a bit about how to really engage with the mystery game, but understand better for next time. The food was horrid! The service was less than OK. The show was not on a stage at all, was not at all what I was prepared for! I have been to several dinner 'who done it's " and this one was a rip off all the way around. THEN they asked for tips several times in the show! I was very excited after reading the reviews on their facebook page and on their website, DUH I should have known better! Shame on ME! It was my 60th birthday and there were 8 of us at the table there to celebrate. What a total let down. The 'play' was in a conference room, with chairs that were less than comfortable, the room was cold. The 'comedy' was not amusing the jokes were average, predictable and very contrived. My in-laws gifted my husband and me two tickets to the show for my birthday and I was very excited to try something new out! This show is located at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown, so I decided to park at the Elm St Garage for $5 on a weeknight and walk half a mile to the Hilton rather than contend with valet or parking at the hotel itself. It says to arrive right on time, but you're mostly chatting around your table for the first thirty minutes as you eat your salad and familiarize yourself with the game, so if you're running late from traffic it's okay. You get to pick your mysterious alias and write it on a name tag before being seated. Food-wise, it was decent! I loved that they were able to accommodate my dairy and nut allergy with the salmon entree by giving me a salad without nuts, the salmon without the cream sauce, and fresh berry sorbet with frozen berries on top. It wasn't the food you would normally expect for $60, but given that you had a three hour murder mystery experience as well, I thought it was worth it. The bar is extra and be prepared to pay extra for normal beers. Performance-wise, I thought the actors were great! This is definitely a PG-13 show as far as the humor goes. Definitely try to meet everyone when you get up to mingle and ask questions so that you're able to make a good, educated guess from the suspect list. The show was a Christmas surprise and the family enjoyed it. I would go again, but offer some suggestions to help improve. I assume the host and actors have given the instructions so many times that they run thru it too fast and we weren't sure of them. No one at my table was a paid for suspect, so the entire table was not as involved. We should not have to pay extra to be involved. The food was good but more choices would justify that price. I realize the hotel chain and DD are separate businesses. DD needs to be aware of user experience. The "valet" service was a scam. My car was left on the street, never even moved yet I paid 20 bucks for it to be parked. Yes 20 bucks, not the real fee of 15. We paid with a 50 and the guy had the nerve to ask if we needed change! For a PREpaid service! Then we were shorted because we didn't count the change until we left the hotel. The venue is the face of the DD and as such should be reevaluated. In 2026 the DD is moving to a different Hilton, not sure it will be any better read more

Maybe we are just less easily amused than the average audience, but we found the jokes predictable or contrived while our fellow diners laughed harder. The setting was a hotel conference room - wish they'd at least decorate the room so it felt more realistic. You know it's bad if I downloaded a whole app to leave this review.... My girlfriend surprised me with tickets for this because I LOVE escape rooms and true crime. So in theory this would have been perfect. Here's why it SUCKED! First, the food was meh but if that was the only problem then I would have no complaints. This show is hosted at a hotel conference room so we had low expectations. Second, the acting was cringe. Which is to be expected but what really made it so bad was the constant sexual jokes from two old gals in bunny ears (granted they said it was for easter but still weird). We did not expect a comedy show & if that's what they are going for then they need a new script. Third, the actually murder mystery part made ZERO sense. Because they actors did not have mics on (they just shouted) it was hard to hear what was happening "in the story". Then when they presented the clues we had no story to go off to go with the clues. A terrific way to spend an evening! We truly enjoyed trying to "solve the case", all the time being completely entertained by the 2 detectives. They were excellent with their improvisation. Arrived to early as the time stated 6-9PM thinking that's the show time. We stood in line with all others for an hour to find that check in was 6PM. we were not able to hear well as the actors did not wear a mic so missed a lot of the story. The performance was lame. So the actors (detectives) in the show were fine, no complaints, and yes you can pick your name and you get to talk to people, but then all of a sudden everyone was on there phone. Well I don't use my phone for stuff like that, so I never figured out what the stupid numbers meant or what to do with my phone, so I ignored it. But then at the end you have to use your phone to enter some contest. So I guess I got completely left out of that part. The bar at the Hilton was absolutely awful, very limited. The food was good. I'm not interested in going back and I guess this would be a once thing anyway because they probably do the same thing over and over. read more

What a waste of money. I was really hoping this would be great but it simply was not. The actors kept reminding the audience that everything was fake and would make side remarks critiquing the script. The "four course" meal was laughable. The "Assorted Chefs Choice Appetizer Spread" was a veggie tray in the corner. No dip of any kind, just the veggies. When dinner was (finally) served, the food wasn't bad. However the event started at 6 and dinner was not served until well after 8. The action was not at all integrated into the event. Instead it began with an "actor" walking into the room having been stabbed. Again, more laughable that entertaining. The story line of the mystery was so incredibly obtuse and the clues were so poorly presented that it left any mystery solving as a side activity that most didn't invest in. Do yourself a favor and check out one of the other crews in town (Keith And Margo's was MUCH better). We spent more than $1,000 on tickets for a large group and the only mystery of interest is why on earth you would waste your money too. What a disappointment. read more
