The burger was out of this world! The fries were orgasmic. The bartender, he had glitter under one eye, Samson, I believe, was a total sweetheart and allowed me to try all the Artifact ciders on tap. Had an excellent meal at one of the high tops, but had to keep going to the bar to order my own drinks as the lady waiting my group didn't cover the guests completely. Also, a taller server with red curly hair was less than hospitable/ polite when he snarkily requested our group, upon attempting to exit, requested we get out of the walkway in an odd/unusual tone. We stopped in around 5pm on a recent weekday. The weather was nice, so the large picture window at the front of the bar had been opened. We sat at the end of the bar, as close to the window as we could, and were greeted right away by the bartender. I should admit off the bat that I didn't order beer. I know, I know. For whatever reason, I wasn't feeling it, so I ordered a glass of vino verde. It was light and refreshing-- not the most complex wine ever, but exactly what I wanted on a warm afternoon. The wine list isn't extensive, which is totally fair, given that beer is their focus, but there are a handful each of reds and whites on the menu. My fiance saved us from total embarrassment and ordered the Victory Headwaters pale ale, which he enjoyed but was a little bitter for my taste. Dirty Truth's bar menu is awesome-- there are a number of delicious and creative (but still approachable) sounding snacks to choose from, and for the most part the prices are reasonable. We ordered sweet potato and beet chips with a fennel cream dip ($6) that was probably the best bar snack I've ever had. The chips were crunchy and flavorful-- neither under nor over-salted-- and the dip was light (surprisingly so for a cream dip) and tasted of fresh herbs. I have loved the Dirty Truth since it opened and found myself there around once or twice a week pre-Covid. The servers are usually so wonderful, and I've loved the variety of beer, cider and wine. The food was always good as well, and the fries are amazing. I want to preface my thoughts by saying that I understand that restaurants are struggling during Covid. I want to support them, and do. Since Covid, the prices have really gone up at the Dirty Truth. The fries and pretzel, simple items have gone up a great deal. Most wines are now $13-15 per glass, and it is sometimes not possible to find a wine for $10 or under per glass. The pours also seem smaller now. I understand that the tip is now included in the prices, and I support that as well. I hope that the Dirty Truth receives and considers this feedback. I don't want to stop going, but it's tough to when two drinks costs around $30. I love the DT! I just want some of the old spirit back. read more

The Dirty Truth is a great place. The atmosphere is excellent and they have a great variety of beers, which are regularly rotated. The food is also typically excellent, although sometimes there are menu revisions that can leave few options beyond burgers and pork. Also, their weekend brunch menu used to be fantastic, but now it's very overpriced and quite "heavy." I would bring back the old brunch menu. Overall though, one of the best places for beers and appetizers, definitely try to the fries with aioli and the hummus platter is excellent. read more

Great atmosphere, great beers on draft. The only complaint I have is that it can be pretty difficult to get a table at peak times, and you can get stuck standing in a pretty cramped space. The Dirty Truth is why I travel to Northampton. The draught beer selection is amazing! Just the sight of all the taps a long the wall is enough to get any beer enthusiast excited about this place. I agree that this place gets loud pretty quickly, but it encourages getting close with your date to hear what they have to say. (= I have no complaints about the food here. My last meal was the mussels and fries ... excellent combination! The macaroni & cheese and chicken pot pie are great comfort foods that you rarely find when dining out. The owner rides and racers motorcycles as well, so that gets an extra star from me anyway. They held MotoGP viewing event here one year. It was a lot of fun. Valley Motorsports (local dealer) brought in some of the newest Ducati motorcycles for show and had a raffle. Great time! read more

AWESOME BEER! So good. They have about thirty beers on tap, tons of wine, it's pretty expensive, but really great beer. The food is also really exquisite, but on both accounts, get ready to spend some money. It's really the place to go if you're thinking you want a really hoppy belgian ale made in tiny batches for 15 bucks. This was one of my favorite bars in Northampton. I was only in the area for college but I have been tempted to make the 3 hour trip here from NYC just for the food and beer! The place is dimly lit and the crowd is young. There are several tall tables against the wall and seating at the bar. The place gets full but it's not unbearably crowded. I was always able to find empty seats at the bar. They have a large selection of beers on tap at reasonable prices (avg $5). The bartenders are generally helpful in selecting a beer (or at least the male bartenders are). I usually ask to sample a few before choosing one. The food is great. I always order the $4 fries which fill a huge plate and comes with both ketchup and mayo. I've also had the fish and chips which was ridiculous. It was a whole uncut fillet with fries overflowing the plate. The night I ordered the dish, the kitchen was closing but they still made it for me and my bf. I thought that was really nice of them and it makes me like the place even more. Simply put, I like the place for the cheap prices and relaxed atmosphere which you cannot find in NYC. read more

I've been to DT many times for beers. Have tried many a great brew I've not had before there. Today I tried some food. I had the Pozole, which was great. It is a dish I've tried myself after reading a few recipes so I was interested in trying someone else's take. The stew itself was excellent and the chips and other sides were very good. The wife had Mac and cheese. I felt this dish was poor. It lacked the classic white cheese sauce I would expect to come with it and instead had a vaguely meaty tasting sauce that had separated and was oily. The fries and salad that came with were ok. As to the vibe that seems to dominate other reviews listed here; don't care. I have always received better than decent service. Sure it has a 'I'm cooler than you' attitude, but let's face it, that's par for the course in N'ton. Where in downtown do you not get that attitude? read more

I couldn't decide between two and three stars so I'm going with three for now. I'll give The Dirty Truth props where it deserves them: great selection of beer, staff is pretty knowledgeable and can make recommendations. The wines, probably overlooked often, are pretty good as well. And, I haven't had a bad meal yet. However, you can't call it brunch when you don't offer Eggs Benedict or pancakes (but that's just my opinion). The mimosas should at least have a hint of bubbles in them. If I wanted just orange juice, I'd order just orange juice. The music more often than not is on the not so awesome side. Honestly, I want to like this place more than I actually do. But it is what it is. Update: they have Eggs Benedict now or so I hear. I'll be checking them out when I return to the Valley in the fall. An update shall follow. read more

I love beer so much and this place is a local heaven. As pretentious as it seems, I am grateful for it because I can't stand people who think good beer is: Guiness, Blue Moon, and the plethora of light beers. I really hate people who ask for the draft list and suggestions and pick something stupid like BBC Steel Rail or Allagash White after you've just suggested some awesome brews. If this is you, please make your way to Toasted Owl two doors over. It gets super crowded and I still enjoy being there. I love the music choice for the most part and on nice days/nights they whip the whole front of the place open so passerbys can stare in envy. The food is better than what you would expect for bar food and each item can find an excellent pairing with the right beer for an extraordinary experience. While bored at work I decided to peruse the DT reviews just out of curiosity. This is somewhere I have previously chosen not to review, as I think it stands on its own, as a place you can either love or hate. I choose to mostly love it.. but can certainly understand why it encounters so many haters. It is most certainly a pretentious atmosphere, and the bartenders can def ignore you. But as a new Yorker who has also lived in more hispter areas of Brooklyn, I guess I have come to accept this as common bartender behavior. This is not a place you go to because they remember you, or you build a good rapport with the waitstaff. But instead a place that you know will have reliably good food, and a kick ass beer menu. The pretzel is awesome (although the mustard will kick ya right in the face) the veggie burger has actual flavor, and I have heard that the meat rendition also leaves the tongue happy. I find the DT to be a good staple in NOHO, as it is pretty consistent. You know what you're getting... and you know what you're not! read more

The Dirty Truth has a amazing Beer and Wine list from all over the world. The staff is welcoming and friendly always willing to help you out with your choice of drink or food. The artwork changes all the time. The music is different through each night, every staff member has there own taste in music. So each time you enter there its always different. Has a laid back atmosphere thats to the point where you forget what time it is because your having such a amazing time with friends. I've gone there for a glass of wine by myself and its still the best place to be on any night of the week. If you go there on a day where there is nice weather. They will have the whole front window display open. There is no place like this in the area that has the style and kindness of staff. Check them out!!! read more

Not the best- servers take a long time to bring you drinks and food- very limited food menu. They only serve beer and wine here. The seating is uncomfortable just wooden plank barstools and it's so loud in here you have to shout to your friends. They do open the big window in the summer for an open air feel which is the only time I would go here- good people watching downtown! read more

I used to come here a lot and loved it, lately though I've been increasingly disappointed. The duck nachos used to be 30% bigger for the same price, sometimes there isn't even a good amount of duck on them. I have sympathy for bars in college towns in regards to drinking laws. However, our party of five 30 to 40 year olds were ready to spend money on drinks and food but were turned away because one of us had a NY state ID and the hostess required two additional forms of ID because she "couldn't tell if the ID was fake." New York?! Seriously? On any given fall weekend in New Yorkers flock to the Pioneer Valley. How are they not prepared to evaluate a NY ID? Was she daft or is this a Dirty Truth policy? The place oozes cool and has a good list of beers on tap. I've been a few times and had a decent time (my wallet wasn't as happy, but c'est la vie). BUT - it is NOT vegetarian friendly, something that surprised me since its in Northampton. At my last visit, I asked simply to have the cheese plate, but please not include the meats that were part of the cheese plate. Granted, the menu says "no substitutions", but surely asking for something that I do not eat (nor does my drinking partner) to not be included cannot be that difficult. Its not a substitution, really, its an omission. Just to note, I would never expect that a dish prepared with meat in it to be altered like this, but to ask that couple slices of salami or whatever not be put on a plate that is made to order seems to be pretty easy The bartender originally stated that he couldn't reduce the price of the plate, which I said was perfectly fine. I was more than willing to pay more for less food, so long as it didn't include meat. Then, after he realized this wasn't going to dissuade me, he informed me (haughtily) that he didn't want to harm the integrity of the plate and wouldn't feel comfortable serving it without the meats. I would love to give this restaurant a better review, they have a good beer selection and good food. However, on 3 occasions in the past 3 months, I have been denied from placing a food order because 'the kitchen is too busy'. I understand that kitchens get crazy and would be more than happy to wait a bit longer for food. I think the staff should take a person's order and simply warn them that the kitchen is behind. It seems strange that you have more seats than your kitchen can actually serve. It will be a while before my wife or I come back or recommend this restaurant. read more

I can't stand how "too cool for school" the waitstaff is. Grow up. I love to tell this story: I ilke lemon with my beer. I asked for one after ordering- the bartender said they don't "do fruit" with that beer and I said "ok, but may I have one anyway?" I thought he was being funny but when he said no again, I asked politely and a little flirty- "well, then may I order a lemon separate from my beer?". .I love this place so much! Sure it gets some slack for being pricey and snobby but I like it just the way it is. I don't drink shitty cheap beer and I'm not looking to get trashed. I'm not part of some hipster posse either and none of the other patrons bother me one bit. I go there a few times a month to relax. I'll either go alone with a book and enjoy a cold pint or I'll go with my boyfriend for dinner or brunch. We are addicted to their hot pretzels and going there for brunch on the weekend is perfect! A vegan burger/homefries/salad & a great beer is just so fulfilling. All of their food is made there fresh and their beer menu is quite vast and varies. It is dimly lit and they are always playing the perfect music at just the right volume. I was intrigued by their movie showings on sundays but came to find that there is no sound to them and it is kinda hard to watch..good idea but poorly executed. There are a few on staff that are quite a bit friendlier than others but I suppose that's the same everywhere. Here is the Dirty Truth. Don't waste your time. Bartender Ben profiles everyone who comes thru the door and you will be subject to his idea of whether you should be served or not. In my fifty years of living this is the first time I was ever kicked out of a bar or ANY place at all. Four of us were peacefully sitting there. We just had a great meal at FitzWilly's nextdoor. My friends each had a beer, I was drinking water.. designated driver, he came over and told us he liked our vibe but he had to cut us off after one drink. He told us and I quote "I knew you were wasted the minute you walked in here." Extremely snobbish atmosphere. If you do not fit the hipster persona you will be profiled and removed from the scene. This is unfortunate because it could be a wonderful establishment. We used to like to visit this place but would suggest boycotting it because if you smile, laugh, love or show any other emotion, Ben will think you are wasted. For a refreshingly enjoyable alternative try McLadden's Irish Publick House where they have over 100 beers on tap and the most wonderful owner and wait staff ever. read more

Regarding Brunch: awful. The absolutely worst meal I've ever had in Northampton. This is not even an issue of cost (which was a little steep for brunch in the area), the service was unbelievably slow (we heard the servers telling other groups they could not place their orders yet because the kitchen was backed up... 45 minutes into brunch service). And the food quality and quantity were far below expectations or standards for service in Northampton. The french press took 20 minutes to arrive Food took 55 minutes to arrive A meal advertised as biscuitS and gravy arrived with a single, flat, burnt, dry biscuit. Their fritatta ended up being a slice of quiche which was over-reheated to the point of being crusty eggs on the outside, and chew eggs on the inside The best part of the meal was the coffee and the side of greens, which at $18pp is unacceptable I like the ambiance of DT, and they have a great beer selection, but their food service was horrible. Awful. I love food, and I can forgive slow service and a flighty waitress if the meal delivers, but this meal did not. I will not be going back for a meal there any time soon. read more
