We ordered several dishes to share, including the Butter Basted Hokkaido Scallops, The Shorebird, Swordfish, Prime Skirt Steak, Prime Skirt Steak Taco Platter, Chilean Seabass, Yellowtail, and Carrot Cake. Everything was definitely on the pricier side, but the quality reflected the price for most of the meal. The only miss was the Swordfish, which was too dry for us. My personal highlights were the Prime Skirt Steak, Chilean Seabass, and The Shorebird, especially the risotto that came with it. Everything tasted high quality and well prepared. We found street parking directly in front, which was free after 6 pm. There's also an underground lot where Shorebird validates two hours of parking. Overall, Shorebird is a great option for a special occasion or a nicer dinner out. I'd recommend making a reservation, especially if you're coming with a larger group.

It was my first time there, and unfortunately, it will probably be my last. I ordered a sushi lobster roll that was around $35. The menu did not clearly disclose the ingredients, and nobody explained to me what was included in the roll. When it arrived, it was covered in a very heavy amount of mayonnaise and other sauces mixed together. Because I have allergies to certain ingredients, I politely asked the waiter if they could take it back and prepare one without the sauces. The waiter was actually very polite and handled the request professionally. I had no issue with him whatsoever. Then JUAN, THE MANAGER, came over. Instead of trying to understand the situation or simply resolving the issue, he questioned why I would return an expensive item after it had already been prepared. I explained very clearly that the ingredients had not been disclosed to me and that I had an allergy, which was the reason I needed it prepared differently. His response was extremely unprofessional. Rather than showing concern about a customer's allergy or acknowledging that the ingredients could have been explained more clearly, he basically told me that the issue with the ingredients was not his business. Seriously? A customer comes into your restaurant for the first time, spends money on a $35 roll, explains that they have a food allergy, and this is how the manager chooses to handle the situation? Mistakes happen. Restaurants get orders wrong. That isn't what bothered me. The way management treated me after I politely explained the problem is what bothered me. For a restaurant charging premium prices, I expect premium-level customer service and professionalism. Instead, I left feeling like my concerns were an inconvenience. JUAN, as the manager, should understand that customer service is part of his job. If a customer has an allergy concern, the appropriate response should be to listen, clarify the ingredients, and find a reasonable solution--not argue with the customer about the cost of the food. The waiter was courteous and tried to help, so I want to give him credit for that. Unfortunately, the manager's behavior completely overshadowed the rest of the experience. First impression: extremely disappointing. If you're going to charge around $35 for a roll, customers should be able to expect clear communication about what's in their food and professional treatment when they raise a legitimate allergy concern. I came in as a new customer who was simply looking for a good place to eat in my new neighborhood. Instead, I walked away wondering how a restaurant with these prices can have management that handles customers this way.

Overall, it was a convenient stop and better than bar food, however, we would not return based on the first experience. Street parking or paid parking lot, ADA accessible although the hallway to the restroom is a bit tight for a wheel chair and seating space is compact.

We went back in, waited a couple of minutes, and then sat down for a lovely lunch I think that the hostess was probably just a little confused and used verbage that was slightly incorrect, but we're so thankful that Brittany recognized the situation and came out after us! The crab was molting which means when you crack open the shell there's a leathery skin on the meat inside that's supposed to replace the outer shell when the crab is still growing, this extends to the spikier parts of the crab and if swallowed could cause issues and is dangerous to eat. My girlfriend and I tried to eat around it and see if it was just a few legs but it was the whole damned thing. Our wonderful server offered us a replacement of snow crab but our total bill was never adjusted so we paid for King Crab and never got it. I hear that this is par for the course for this place which is sad because this place used to be pretty legendary. Too bad, I don't recommend but left a star for our server who was awesome.

This restaurant discriminates and refuses service to people with a medical exemption from wearing a face covering. Plus, they are practicing medicine without a medical license. They required me to cover my mouth and nose while walking 10 yards from the hostess desk to the table despite my medical exemption, which is very bizarre since the few people in the restaurant were not wearing face coverings. When I arrived I walked through the door and the hostess immediately took my temperature without my permission by putting a device to my forehead. She was very sly in doing it as I wasn't even aware of what she was doing while speaking to my wife. After "passing" that ridiculous test, she then demanded I put a cloth over my mouth and nose. I explained that I was not able for medical reasons as previously explained when I made the reservation. She then brought over the manager. He said, "we don't care that you have a medical reason". I asked if he realized they were violating California Civil Code 51, which provides equal access and accommodations in any business establishment whatsoever, that no citizen may be discriminated against based on a health condition and the ORDERS AND STRONG RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE COUNTY OF ORANGE HEALTH OFFICER states that the cloth face-covering order SHALL NOT APPLY to the following persons: b) Anyone who has trouble breathing...; or c) Persons with a medical or mental health condition... The manager said, "we don't care that you have a medical reason" and "go ahead and sue us." I was astonished that they were complicit in breaking the law. They then tried to use intimidation and harassment in hopes of convincing me to cover my mouth and nose despite my medical reason. It was only about a 5 minute conversation. I was calm and stated the facts and law while keeping my breathing and heart rate under control in order to maintain my health. They were very hostile and rude. Suddenly a cook and two more servers came over in an attempt to harass and intimidate me along with the hostess and manager. It was now 5 against 1. The manager and cook said, "we can refuse service to whomever we want, either put on a mask or leave!" I then left and contacted the Newport Beach Police Department and they said they could come to the restaurant and I could file a report for harassment and intimidation, but I declined since I wanted to get on with dinner. I went to another restaurant that did comply with the laws and didn't require me to wear a face covering. I ended up spending nearly $300 and tipped the server $100. We spoke to multiple patrons about our experience at The Dock and agreed that the educated will be boycotting establishments like The Dock. read more

Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous. Four of us went here for Sunday brunch. This was my second time having the pleasure of dining at this excellent restaurant. My first experience was so wonderful I had to come back for a second try with friends. We came back with another couple who live in Laguna Beach and were not aware of this wonderful little gem. We live in Woodland Hills, but well worth the trip. This sits on the waterfront in Newport Beach and all tables have a view. Do yourself a favor and ask for Tiffany to wait on you. Tiffany is a great asset to this restaurant. There is not anything that you could ask Tiffany that she is not well versed in when it comes to the menu! Not only the best server Tiffany is a wonderful person. Very friendly and outgoing and made our experience top notch. There should be more servers like Tiffany We ordered the Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine, Tarragon Poached Lobster & Potato Latkes with Lox and a avocado sauce. The dishes and presentation were all wonderful and beyond our expectations. Each of the dishes ordered we would not hesitate to order again. For dessert we had the chocolate ganache with salted caramel, hazelnut and a scoop of wonderful ice cream. I am not a chocolate lover and loved this. While on vacation in Newport Beach we tried dining in what we were told were the finest restaurants in town. We were so looking forward to a special evening and meal at The Dock because of it's location and famed ambiance. It was a BIG MISS!! The wine was warm bordering hot (both the red and white) and they don't serve cocktails. The food was beautifully presented but was VERY VERY VERY MEDIOCRE. My wife and I ordered our Salmon medium rare (bordering on rare), it came to us well done. In spite of trying to get the waiter to focus on our order, he was preoccupied and amused by some of his buddies dining there. The kitchen is open and extremely filthy and greets you when you open the front door, be careful though, the kitchen workers are always walking out rolling trash barrels, boxes and other disgusting dirty things. It was a week night, late and we were some of the last people in the restaurant, I believe there were only 4 or 5 full tables. While we were there, two VERY DRUNK young guys came in and roasted their friends (friends of the waiter) who were eating at a table nearby with non stop Loud over the top obscenities and turned the place into Animal House. Their language spared no offensive reference to males and females and various lewd acts. This went on for no less than 45 minutes and the manager never showed his face or did a thing! When we complained at the end, the waiter cringed, said the manager had left and said that the two jokers and diners were "friends and frequent guests". It was 2 hours and $250 I'll never get back!! read more

The Dock is my favorite restaurant in Newport! It is the PERFECT spot for a romantic dinner or other special occasion. It truly is the ultimate hidden gem on Lido. The decor is classy, with large white curtains draped along the walls and an enclosed dining patio that faces the dock. It was very warm on the patio even in the middle of winter. You sit on comfy couch-like booths with large pillows that let you snuggle the person next to you. The staff members are very friendly and professional. Each time I have gone there I have left more happy than the next. We have ordered most items on the menu and each dish is delicious. They have a white wine that I absolutely love...the waitress suggests it every time I ask...a chardonnay...cant remember the name though! I highly recommend it for a date to impress. I also think it would be the perfect backdrop for a bridal/baby shower brunch. Oh and if you are there for dinner, I would also suggest stepping across the street to their sister bar called The Porch. Very different vibe but just as cool! read more

I recently dined at this lovely restaurant on the dock, and it was a wonderful experience! The only downside was the parking--it was a bit tough, and I had to park a couple of streets over. However, the short walk through charming streets made it enjoyable, even in my new high heels. The ambiance is cozy and classy, with dim lighting and a stunning wall of wine. I had the soup du jour, a butternut squash soup with pomegranate, which was rich and flavorful. For my main course, the filet mignon cooked medium was perfection--tender and juicy, paired with a delicious mushroom paste. The potato block it came with wasn't my favorite, but the Bordeaux wine was excellent. Overall, it's a bit pricey, but totally worth it for the atmosphere and quality. read more

Finally had the opportunity to go back for dinner and liked it even more than the last time. Great service and food and a beautiful evening spent on the bay. We started with the tuna tataki which was delicious and perfectly seasoned, then shared a filet and scallops, both of which were cooked just as long as they needed to be and no longer. Starting with a sumptuous blackberry cocktail and an Amuse Bouche of red wine poached pear, I enjoyed Ahi Sashimi with jalapeños and Sishito peppers. Next, a bubbly was selected for the entree, Alaskan halibut with wonderful sweet pepper risotto and caper emulsion. We went here for our Anniversary. Give it a 4 stars due to the services. We have to wait for 45 minutes for our dinner to be served. Overall, the foods was great. Will come back for sure. read more

I called ahead of time to ask about patio seating and whether they allow dogs, and they said yes! So we came with a party of six people and one furry friend. Overall it was a pretty busy weekend brunch. The food and service here were great! I would for sure come back. I ordered the fish tacos which came with three big pieces of fish and were overall tasty! Also tried a bite of the lobster roll and that was also a must order, fries are also crispy and the inside tasted like fluffy potato. We had a fun time and just overall a great experience here. This was our first time here and it gave all of us the impression that we would come back!

Parking can be tricky if it's during a peak time, but we were able to find street parking a few blocks down and enjoyed a nice walk along the beach. The servers were attentive during our dining experience and made a point to wish me happy birthday multiple times. The bread service was delicious, both rolls were soft and it was hard to not fill up on those alone! I had a lychee martini, which was bright and just subtly sweet. I do feel that it's overpriced at $21, but that's the local pricing. The French Onion Soup was one of the best I've had. The broth was full of flavor, but not a heavy beef flavor like many others. The cheese, onions and bits of bread were plentiful. Our entrees were both delicious. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was perfectly cooked, moist and flaky with a nice sear. The mustard sauce was a surprisingly tasty addition. I'm not a mustard fan, so I was leery, but I couldn't taste it, it just added some acidity and rounded out the flavor. The bok choy was sauteed and still had some texture. My fiance had the Prime New York steak, medium, and it was as ordered. We both felt it was good, but not the best steak either of us have had. The garlic mashed potatoes were okay, nothing special. They rounded out our meal with a complementary chocolate dessert for my birthday. It was a cross between a cake and a brownie, it was soooo good! Unfortunately I was so full that I could only have a few bites. This is a great date night or special occasion restaurant with beautiful ocean views.

Fine dining is about more than the quality of the food; it's about hospitality and making guests feel welcome throughout the entire experience. We never expected to be hurried out before we had finished our meal. Better planning between reservation management and table pacing could have avoided putting customers in such an uncomfortable position. Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable evening ended on a disappointing note. We hope management reviews how situations like this are handled, because the last impression is often the one guests remember most.

I'm not sure if there's a new chef, but today the food was just not good and it almost felt like a joke. We have been coming to Gulfstream for 16 years now and the tres leches have never been sour. Go figure the protein costs the most to them, that might be why they up-charged me just to add spinach. Our server was straight up disrespectful I could hear her laughing at us from the kitchen. Today we tried the steak for a change. A NY Strip grilled medium-rare and cooked perfectly. But the steak was not up to Nick's typical standards of excellence. We stopped halfway through the meal and told Vincent about our complaint. A medium-rare steak should be juicy and this one was dry and tasted "new" not aged. It has no flavor and I'm pretty sure that comes with aging. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a gift card the next day that comped our lunch - a very pleasant surprise.
