Skip this place....shell in my crab omelette. Had to go get my own silverware after asking for it after food was delivered and then saw our waitress delivering other drinks while our food got cold. Who brings out pancakes without bringing syrup and then serving other tables before bringing back the syrup and silverware?? So we called 2 mins prior to arriving to put our names in because we are a party of 6. They told us we would be seated without any wait time but when we got there they told us it would be a 25 min wait time. We confronted the lady about it because we had called ahead and she said she had no idea why the person who answered the phone said that. She admitted they were understaffed and placed us within ten mins due to the miscommunication. The prices are high but that's kind of expected in this area. The breading on the fried flounder was okay, I'm more of a beer battered person myself. But he flounder did have a delicious taste. The grits were fluffy and not overly cheese so I enjoyed them a lot. One person in our group got the shrimp scampi but didn't like it because it had a gritty texture to it, and the taste of the noodles wasn't to their liking. She said it tastes like it was boiled in old clam water. Like it have a dirty kitchen kind of taste to it. She said the shrimp however didn't taste like that. That the shrimp was great and was her favorite part of the meal. The crab dip and shrimp did are definitely worth a try! That was our tables favorite. We also ordered the fried calamari. That i would say to go somewhere else for. They give you only a handful of the fried calamari, and the rest of the plait was all fried peppers and zucchini's. The taste of the calamari, however, was good. I prefer mine to have more of a lemon with a pinch of salt kind of taste but that's just me and I usually go to Real local Italian restaurants or Surf Riders for that. Got there on a tue around 6:30pm. We were greated and seated right away. Ordered apps which were ok. Could have used some plates for them. Had the fried shrimp and crab cake. The shrimp was more likely baked. Not crispy and kind of rubbery. Crab cake lacked flavor. Fries were soggy. Service was very good. Great kids meal. Kind of run of the mill. Not too impressed. Bill with tip was almost $90 for two adult meals, 2 kids meals and beverages. Not worth the price. Decor was nice. read more

Wow our experience was amazing! William was the most knowledgeable and personable bartender I've ever had. If you go you must try the cinnamon torched old fashioned and his famous homemade Moscow mule. Everyone at this restaurant was amazing and I would highly recommend to anyone. A waste of money and time! Poor service. They did not have a safe place for my baby's car seat and moved us to the back of the restaurant after they already sat us. Moved us to a hot and muggy half moon table that they squished our party of four into. The food was expensive and small portions. I had crab legs. Paid $20 for 2 pieces. Was still hungry and asked to add a side salad to my entree and the waitress got an attitude with me. My husband had crab cakes which were not that great. There are not enough stars to give this place. Our car keys got locked in the car but the staff was super friendly and let us use their phone for assistance. The food was outstanding. I had the NC seafood omelet lump crab was excellent but a bit disappointed with the baby popcorn type shrimp. Rest of the group got the buffet which was nice but limited in selection. Debbie was so busy but continued to apologize and did an outstanding job serving us and refilling our coffee and tea, etc. Highly recommend this place for their food and service. Went here the other day with a party. The place is a nice casual restaurant. I definitely loved the volume in there, was quite peaceful and you're able to hear your friends speak without having to yell like in some restaurants. The waiter was really good about refilling drinks, and our bread basket. They were able to accommodate with our picky needs. I needed my chicken tenders extra fried, my friends preferred chicken alfredo instead of their shrimp alfredo. In my opinion, their fries are alright. I'm more of a crispy fan instead of soft food. So their chicken and fries were mediocre to me (maybe I do like frozen tenders better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) I enjoyed their chicken alfredo, even though I didn't order it, and their hush puppies are amazing. I could eat two whole baskets worth. A few complaints I would have is their online menu was sort of deceiving since many things weren't actually served that I saw on the menu, they only had one style of wings, but I'm normally used to several styles, and the waitress seemed a bit sarcastic/sassy to me. Maybe she was just messing around, but I can't say for sure. Other than that I think the place is great and I'd definitely eat here again. read more

Stopped here with my wife for breakfast while passing through. There was quite a large crowd waiting to be seated, which I expected, but we were seated relatively quickly. Judging by the outside of the building, I didn't think the decor would be as nice as it was. The layout of the restaurant was nice and it really had a better than usual feel as far as breakfast joints. My wife had blueberry pancakes and I had the french toast and bacon. Both dishes were fantastic, filling and well-priced. I highly recommend the Dunes for breakfast, just be ready for a wait- especially on the weekend. read more

We love eating at The Dunes Restaurant. The breakfast is very good, we order off the menu but they also have a nice looking buffet. We also have been for dinner and it's very good. We are really not seafood people, so finding good places on the Outer Banks that are affordable and really good always makes for a great adventure. We go to The Dunes for breakfast every time we come to Nags Head. The breakfast buffet isn't massive, but we've never been disappointed.

My husband and I tried this restaurant one fateful morning on our first trip to OBX together...we come back every year. The staff is always friendly, service is wonderful, and the food is great! They have one of the best breakfast bars I've ever experienced, and all of the sandwiches are great. I really like the fact that the breakfast bar is open super late--really befitting for a lazy beach holiday. We love The Dunes and make it a point to visit each trip we take to OBX. read more

A great family-owned restaurant with nice atmosphere and good food. My large family ate here twice - a dinner and came back for breakfast. They were able to accommodate 16 people with ease and the servers were 5-star on both occasions. The food was good and I enjoyed both the dinner and breakfast experience. We were kind of skeptical going here because of the reviews but during our past trip this was our favorite place that we ate lunch/ dinner. The portions are HUGE and everything was amazing.
