We stopped in for a friends birthday with a HUGE group of people. I was very impressed with how quickly and easily they handled our large group with ease. We got tons and tons of drinks to start off. I got the mule. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but then I got the blackberry lemonade and that was absolutely stunning. We ended up with a few pitchers of that! I really love the Eagle. This was my go-to place before COVID hit and it is still fantastic. I am a big fan of the dark meat fried chicken, the fries, and the spoon bread. When guests visit me from out of town, I always take them to the Eagle and everyone has loved the chicken. They also have a great drink selection! Started out sharing hush puppies and biscuits; wow, those biscuits were awesome! Light, airy, and so buttery; came with honey butter and some preserves which were excellent. Since they specialize in fried chicken, that's what I got: 1/4 dark which ended up being a thigh and 2 drumsticks. Doesn't come with anything except hot honey, so sides were a la carte. Collards and mac & cheese were my choice and both were good. Greens were actually really good, tangy and cooked perfectly. Mac & cheese could have had more cheese, but it was tasty. If you like fried chicken, this is the place to be (so I've been told). I cant have gluten so the fried chicken isnt an option but I had the braised pork without the bun and it was delightful. Make sure you try on a day you aren't counting calories or you doubled up at the gym beforehand. On my second trip, I opted for the chop salad so I wouldn't require an afternoon nap. I'm not one to usually order salads and take a picture of it, but this salad is a must try! Food was good, we tried the fried chicken, with Mac and cheese, biscuits and jam, fried chicken not and fries. Skip the fries, they are super salty and nothing special. Everything else was really good. Nice atmosphere, cool lighting fixtures. Only issue we encountered was the hostess, who seemed bored and dismissive. When we checked in after the half hour wait, she just grabbed menus and started walking. Dropped them in the table and left. On our way out, was on her phone and said "have a good night" without even looking up. Servers were hustling and did a great job taking care of us. Never had to think about a refill on drinks. I've been many times since moving to Indy, and the chicken is very good! However, I can't find it in me to like the sides. The biscuits are very good. But the other sides are just okay. I'm originally from Georgia and grew up with more traditional southern cooking, and honestly this just isn't it for me. And the cravings for good southern food hit at times. But this just isn't the place for that for me. The collards have some weird taste as if there's an extra ingredient added to it. For me at least southern cooking isn't about elevating the dish by adding new ingredients. Instead it's about keeping things simple. This adds to the feeling of home. Of course this is just my opinion. And I'll still occasionally eat here. But the sides just aren't all that amazing to pay for. Also have never seen hush puppies as a paid side. But perhaps that's just something new for me personally. The chicken is definitely the best part. Will happily pay for the biscuits. But will definitely skip the other side options from now on. But if they're to your taste definitely get them! They just give me "southern with a midwestern twist". And there's nothing wrong with that! Just not for me! The service when dining in has always been good! They do take reservations! Their chicken sandwich is good! The salads are pretty okay. Love the interior decor! This past weekend I was in town with a small group. It was my first time in Indy and someone suggested The Eagle. Our sever, Steph, was incredible. The fried-ness and the chicken complimented each other, and the chicken meat wasn't dried out. The best fried chicken ever? No. But pretty solid choice, especially with the hot honey sauce - and boy is it hot! Bacon appetizer $8 - brown sugar and cayenne. It sounds like an odd combination, but it worked! The Eagle is a great spot. We are here right after our plane landed in Indy. The chicken sandwich was delicious. Perfectly fried and seasoned. The one thing I would change about it is the bun. It was a little plain, and being from Louisiana I'm used to tasty po boy French bread. Change the bread and this sandwich is fire. We paid $60 with tip, it felt like a lot for something that did not even hint that it had alcohol. It was pretty packed and overall loud.
