It's shocking that restaurants in Indy are the one of the only cities I experienced that really cares about the customer experience! I had a bad experience earlier this week at this location and I spoke out about it, two days later the manager reached out to me wanting to find a solution to fix the problem and make the experience better. My girls and I came back for a second chance on the same week and sat at the same location as we did before. This time around, there was no flies insight due, our waitress Dia was super friendly and gave recommendations to us and the food was a lot better. I never tried Hush Puppies before and it was DELICIOUS at Eagles! It did have a little spicy kick, but it's well balanced with the corn bread. One cool thing we tried is the Mac & Cheese topped with Fried Chicken Cutlet; oh my god, that's the best thing ever so far! It was super flavorful, super presentable, and everything was nice a soft. This used to be my favorite place, but now they use cheese sauce in their macaroni, which was considered one of the best in the city about five years ago. The chicken always looks as if it is not from the same bird one big breast, one little breast, one big thigh, one little thigh, one OK wing one tiny wing, one short drumstick, one skinny drumstick, and when I asked the host what happened to the macaroni? He proceeded to look confused as if I would not notice the quality of it. Used to love this restaurant but now they are on the list of restaurants that charge way too much to and you must say it's your first time at the restaurant for the waitress to make sure your meal is the best it can be, but it can still be subpar. We also enjoyed the good selection of beer on tap and a couple of the specialty drinks. The Mule was really good. While the bartender (AM PATIO 6/25/22 at 2:46 pm) was a little surly and not in a hurry to serve people (especially people of color), everyone else was great, especially our waiter, Carson. Having a late Sunday lunch with friends. Didn't have the best dining experience today. The food was good, but the service was less than what I expect when dining out. Our server started out on top of things, but as time went on, the service started declining. Once the food was brought out her presence kinda diminished. I get it's very busy, but you can't neglect your patrons who are still dining. I'm a stickler for paying attention to the table; making sure there's room on the table. She never came back to clear plates/bowls away!!! This was a problem. We had to ask for her to take plates away. At one point, I even moved my plate to the end of the table, thinking it would get her attention and my plate remained at the end of the table. Not only did my plate remain, but the rest of my parties finished plates remained; making it hard to eat in peace. Eventually, I just came out and asked her to clear away the dirty dishes and wipe our table. She finally cleared the table, but never wiped the table down. I had someone else wipe our table off. The service affected my star rating. I would've given 5, but no matter how good the food is, customer service trumps everything! read more

I've got family from North Carolina and lived in Houston, Texas. Both locations do barbecue religiously, and they do it well. I can confidently say this is one of the premier barbecue locations in Indiana that competes with any establishment in the United States. I stopped here after I finished watching a live play on a Sunday. There was a bit of a wait, but it did not take me long to get seated. This place is definitely a nice vibe for watching Sunday football and hanging with friends/ family. I got a few appetizers to start off- the hushpuppies were recommended since they are "popular." These are filled with cheddar cheese and jalapenos and come with a dipping sauce. They were fried well but didn't pack as much flavor as advertised with the cheese and peppers on the inside. But hey what can you expect from hushpuppies. The biscuits are a MUST HAVE. Warm and soft, the biscuits do very well with the sweet butter and jelly they offer. Just get them... Now I must say parts of the menu advertise "southern sides" and with this, you have to live up to such claims. Well, the Macaroni and cheese did not. This is NOT southern macaroni and cheese and does not taste like it. Cellentani pasta is not used in southern mac and cheese but even if it was, it definitely had more cheese than this dish. This dish did not have your classic cheese in it, it was more of a cheese sauce. And then ofc it was topped with bread crumbs.. yea no... 2/5 itself. The chicken did indeed taste like it had been marinated overnight and tasted like KFC because it was so peppery... I wish it was more crunchy but it was average at best. The hot honey sauce was a good compliment 3.5/5 for it. The chicken sandwich was damn near delectable aside from that despicable cole slaw on it. Pretty decent place to say the least. read more

A really wonderful takeout experience. We ordered the kale salad, half chicken, spoon bread, and coleslaw for the two of us. It was ready to go when I arrived and everyone was wearing a mask. The food was good- especially the kale salad. I don't typically like kale so it was a surprise to find it so tasty. The chicken was good but not amazing (Baby's is still number one in my heart). The honey was very spicy (in a good way) but not very sweet- it's just a darker honey. Maybe it's wildflower honey? The spoon bread was delicious- I love when corn kernels are in cornbread. Fried chicken is my favorite food. I have lived on it since birth. Unfortunately a little tough love will be forthcoming describing my visit to The Eagle Food and Beer Hall in Indianapolis. The venue is the typical new urban style, lots of rooms, a big square bar room with plenty of taps. (unfortunately this was not an option for me today because it looked fun). The good. The batter for the chicken was pretty tasty. It was the seasoned and herb style vice the extra crispy style. They had some different side choices like pepper and cheddar grits. The sweat tea was Southern style legit. The bad. The chicken was not hot enough upon serving. It was warm. My mashed potatoes side dish was warm too. My meal was delivered maybe 90 seconds after ordering it, so it possible that I got the last of a batch. That bugged me. The price was 16$ for a breast and a microscopic wing. There was no way to get a breast and thigh without ordering a half of whole bird. That bugged me too. I visit Babes or Gus' Fried Chicken at multiple locations frequently, they are both quite a bit better than The Eagle. Good concept, just not there yet on substance. read more

My go to meal is the Mac and cheese with boneless fried chicken breast. The quality of the Mac and cheese can sometimes be lacking in flavor, cheese, over/undercooked noodles, and temperature. The chicken is pretty consistent whether you get boneless or the Dark or White Meat Fried Chicken. Overall, I enjoy the food, but it can vary. This is affiliate of neighbor Bakersfield based out of Cincinnati originally. They specialize in fried chicken and Mac n cheese. High quality meat and tasty hand breaded meats. Cool space for dining as well as for drinks. Solid craft cocktails. I probably would have formerly rated 5 stars but with saturation (over saturation maybe) of chicken places in city recently, providing stiffer competition. I do feel they stack up with the best still. Largely bone in chicken (thighs, breasts) which as a 90s child has always been less appreciated than boneless varieties. Service is hit or miss. Have had fantastic service but also less than optimal service and can correlate to how busy place is. Can be difficult to get seated in prime hours or weekend brunch. First off, the food. We ordered various items which were all ok. Rumor was the fried chicken was the main attraction and 2 of us ordered it. One was good and one was small pieces and over cooked. The food was passable but nothing special. Now the service/facilities. We had a reservation but still waited 10 minutes to be seated at a table that had been bussed and empty the entire time. The seat had sticky grease and jelly spotted around a large portion so I took my napkin and tried to wipe it up. While doing this multiple staff walked by seeing what I was doing and nobody said anything or tried to help. I later had to ask for a replacement napkin. The table is quite small for seating up to 7 people, we only had 5, and it still was not enough room for all the plates and drinks without them touching and bumping into each others. The appetizer plates they initially brought all had grease and old food stuck to them and the silverware was greasy and dirty. All was asked to be replaced and the replacements were clean(ish). We ordered appetizers first and when they brought our main orders there was no room for the plates but they just stood there and finally started pushing old plates around with the new plates until we finally had to start stacking old plates ourselves. Even after stacking, they still did not take the old plates. They eventually refilled a couple of our drinks but left the old glasses at the table. At this point it felt ridiculous. The table was overflowing with old plate and glasses that should have been taken away. When asked to bring some to-go boxes they just set them on top of the plates holding the food we hoped to take. All-in-all the food was ok but overpriced for the level of quality and serving size but the overall lack of cleanliness and utter lack of proper service by staff that looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there means I will not be returning. read more

I always come to the Eagle and today I had serious craving for the chicken and Mac n cheese. I decided to do takeout, and the quality was subpar extremely subpar. First, I asked them to make sure their honey hot sauce was included. When I got home it wasn't in the bag at all and I asked them to make sure it was. The chicken isn't wait makes the eagle the eagle but the honey hot sauce. I could have gotten better chicken from another establishment. Also, I ordered the bacon and it was also extremely subpar. It tasted like regular bacon without the brown sugar coating. At this point I'm am appalled at what I actually received because I have never gotten this type of service when I dine in.
