Came here with a group for jazz performance and had a good time. I ordered the salmon salad, which was good, but the person next to me ordered the salmon. Next time I will order the salmon entrée as it had a smaller salad, but a larger piece of salmon. I asked for an old-fashioned, less sweet, and they delivered. Only critique would be the place is small, causing the music to be extra loud.

We came here for a department lunch and I can say that this was such a good experience! For a big party like ours we had a water dispenser for ease of access. The dishes came out by type and our waitress served drinks (other than water) efficiently. The wait staff was friendly and provided us with utensils and other amenities when asked. Bathrooms are easily accessible and clean! But most important of all the food was sooo good. I only got to snag a pic of my furikake chicken and my coworker's tonkatsu (pork katsu) dishes. The servings were generous and the plating was neat and clean. Would definitely come back here in my own for take out or to bring my fiancé!

If you are in DT Honolulu this is a must visit place for small bites and drinks. Ambiance is on the chill side and there is a god amount of seating. The service was great and I will touch base to that in the end. Food: We shared the Korean wings, furikake fries and onion rings. - Korean wings: flavor and crunch of the wings was amazing. Juicy wings with good flavor. - furikake fries: mouth watering amazing flavor and fries were perfect -onion wings: not over battered and so good to eat as you drink. My wife asked the bartender to make a margarita surprise and she came back with a li hing margarita w peach Tampico and it was so good Service itself was amazing as well, server was on top of it when it came to presence and being attentive. The bartender too was amazing. Highly recommend this place

Celebrating our Nation's birthday... The Edge At 31 North has some Hours of Operation that we had to work around. They're closed on Sundays. We called in advance to ask if they'd be open on the 4th of July of 2024 (Thursday) because metered street parking is free on holidays and Sundays in the Chinatown and Downtown areas of Honolulu. Yes! We arrived at the quiet, quaint restaurant for early lunch. Luckily we found parking nearby! Lysaandra was our competent, efficient, and knowledgeable server. She was wonderful... very personable and friendly! I got the Roasted Beet Salad. It was refreshing, beautiful, and healthy! We shared the Over the Edge Pizza, which was delicious! Look at the cheese pull photo! The mushrooms, prosciutto, onions, and bell peppers combined well with the mozzarella cheese and tomato base! We had a great time there! Thank you!

Food is wonderful. Good portions well done: katsu lighted breaded with panko and light and crispy without being dry inside. Good rice, the fries, the fish, everything was Ono. The waitress helpful in portion descriptions to help us order the right amount of food, served drinks and food quickly, say 20min or so. A live band was playing that evening of classic Hawaiian contemporary and customers got up and danced hula to some of these classics. It was a friendly mostly local crowd and we enjoyed the band, the staff and the other customers. We will definitely be back. Prices were also very reasonable. We live nearby so we could walk over but parking is in the street or the magna Kea municipal lot is just a block away.

Dining at the Edge... Wanting to take advantage of having the 4th off Nadine suggested dining in downtown and this place is located right on North Pauahi Street (hence the name) is right across the Smith-Beretania Park and this lovely place is in a quite lovely old structure which seems to share with a building that seems to be under construction and no there isn't any parking provided besides some street parking and paid lot right beside them we both were lucky to find parking just steps away was happy moment to start our day. Walking in the vibe is simple with several sturdy tables and a bar in the back and as we were here for lunch I wanted to keep it light and decided to have a salad..."Kale Noodle Salad" which was perfect as it came in a huge ramen bowl with greens topped with yummy Kale Soba and is topped with fresh grape tomatoes, carrots, avocado and slices of tofu. Dressing is a Soy Wasabi which was served on the side was a perfect pairing though the wasabi is definitely there and got me on the first few bites...whew!!! We also decided to share a pizza which is a personal pan size (maybe 8"?) and went "Over the Edge" lol that's the name as it's loaded with prosciutto, bell peppers, onion, mushroom and mozzarella the cheese pull was insane as it remained as I struggle to grab my phone to capture it oh the yummy bite as it was the perfect size to share and knew that Nadine had made the right choice. The single staff was delightful doing it all and even split our bill evenly which is going beyond what many places frown on. It was a nice quite lunch as we enjoyed our bites along with having a nice clean restroom, celebrating not just the 4th but their 1st Anniversary as well they are accepting canned foods in return for $1 off for each can ($2 max per entree) and will be donating it back to the community is a lovely generous offer to celebrate it all. Thank you!

They sell cookies now. Basket on table to the left of entrance

Experience here averages 3.5 over time. Ambiance: 2 to 3 stars. NOT made for live music - too loud. Probably needs a few more drapes to soften the sound? Seating is crowded. Not sure where this goes - they now charge a cover charge when there's live music. (Only time we go.) cover is $5 for most bands but $10 for the band we went to see (Artistree). Not sure why. Service: 4 to 5 stars. The servers are friendly, patient, work hard all evening. Food. 3 to 5 stars. Regular menu is pretty good. My fav so far are the pork chops. A bit oily and not crisp on the outside, but very flavorful and juicy. I recommend ketchup instead of the gravy. (That's how I saw they were oily). Asked for the gravy on the side, tried it with the gravy and it was only ok. Asked for ketchup and it worked well. Hubby got the salmon and ate it all but raved more about my pork chop. Next time I will try one of the specials in the white board in the wall, because while I liked the food on the regular menu there wasn't something that really really hit the spot. The specials dos look interesting. Not sure how often they change. Oh! They sell cookies now $6.50 per bag. Located in a basket on the table to the left of the entrance in a basket. You can grab a bag and take it to your table and the server will add it to your tab. They are ok. Drinks: I think they are on the weak side. Tried their special old fashioned. Tasty but weak. I also always order my bourbon or whisky on the rocks, but they keep coming with water when I order a second drink.

Loved their Kale Noodle Salad Poke and Pork chops were also delicious. Service was excellent. We went on a night where it was sold out, but although the place was packed with people, it was still comfortable and everyone had a good time. There was room to dance in the courtyard outside. Parking is just across the street too.

Stopped by for my first visit here and it was awesome. Had the garlic pesto ahi plate which was cooked perfectly and so ono! Highly recommenon! Service was sweet and attentive. Space is comfortable and inviting. Really need to try happy hour and have snapshot of the happy hour specials. Don't miss this gem! Get over here and support them!

So glad we got to try The Edge. The parking gods were on my side as I got street parking a few feet away from the entrance. Had to pay just 1 hour because street parking free from 6pm. Others in our party parked in the lot right next to the Edge. While it's convenient, it was $5.00/hour. We ordered fried rice which was yummy, furukaki chicken....that was sooooooo good, pork belly that too was good. It came with guacamole on the side, rib eye, beet salad and the hamburger sliders. The burger was juicy and tasty. Definitely would order that again! We also ordered the old fashion and boy was that the best! If I didn't have to drive home I would have had more! There was a big party there and so it did get very very loud and it was hard to have conversations on our table but there are tables outside if things get too loud We will definitely be back!

    Ribeye "market price" was $42
    Michael K.

New restaurant in downtown in the old HASR/Terry's Place location. There's a bar and dining area up front and I think there is either additional tables or a party room in the back behind the bar. Warning, it's noisy. When I was there on a Friday evening, it was less than half full, but the acoustics of the room make it so voices will carry. Especially voices of people that have been drinking. For the food, we ordered the rib eye steak, furikake chicken, onion rings, and white rice with furikake. Everything was... okay... but a little bit off. The rib eye says market price on the menu--first time I've ever encountered that. On this cold Friday in December 2023, the market price for a 12oz rib eye was $42. The steak was ok. It came with onions and mushrooms which should have been cooked a bit more. Those were barely cooked at all. It's a stylistic thing, but this entrée could benefit from being on a rectangular plate or platter, it looks off on a round plate. It is also thinner than I expected. I like my steak built like me, thicc (lol). The furikake chicken was a little off. Not sure what was up with the chicken, it had fatty/gristle type bits in it. The sauce was tasty though. The onion rings were unique. First time ever I've eaten onion rings that had absolutely no crunch to them. They were kind of soft and moist. Not bad, just unexpected. The rice was fine. They have a drink menu with mixed drinks. I like when places have this. The Alakea Mango Mui is a blended beverage that is refreshing and delicious. The service was excellent! They also have the usual suspects in beer. Overall, I think this was just an off night. I would visit this place again and probably try the salmon.

The new restaurant occupying the former HASR space on North Pauahi Street is called The Edge at 31 North, referencing its street address at 31 North Pauahi Street. The entrance to the restaurant is through the courtyard. It is a perfect venue prior to a Hawaii Theatre show or pau hana happy hour with ample cocktail, beer and wine selections as well as menu items for dinner. They also have a lunch menu. There were only two people manning the bar and floor, and they were very friendly. They were taking orders, preparing drinks, cleaning and setting tables, providing water, etc so initially the service was on the slower side for our order to be taken and to hear the specials of the day. On this day there were ahi specials such as fillet, sandwich and poke. There is also ribeye steak (market), crispy pork belly ($16), burgers, salads, sides and other menu options, which are not particularly extensive, but should appeal to the palates of most. Once the order was placed, the food arrived surprisingly quickly. We ordered the furikake chicken ($16) which is a panko breaded chicken with kabayaki/mayo sauce. We were surprised at how large the portion was and thought that next time we could order this one plate for two of us. I ordered the misoyaki salmon, marinated over a 48 hour period. This dish was $25 and the fish was for the most part on the moist side. Both dishes came with a small side salad and some cole slaw cabbage. Keep in mind that these dishes are a la cart, so we had to order as a side white rice with furikake for $4 each. What was particularly impressive regarding ambiance was the sound level. The restaurant was busy, about 80% full, so everyone's voices were bouncing off the walls. It was very noisy and difficult to carry on a conversation with my companion, but we made the most of it and thought again that it was a good venue prior to a Hawaii Theater show. Parking can be a challenge but there are municipal parking lots or street parking nearby. Thankfully, there weren't any homeless people in the area at the time. Overall, I would not hesitate to return as it is a good downtown, pre-show venue with good food and friendly, hard-working staff.

From the warmest hospitality to the best food we had in Honolulu, XO completely exceeded our expectations. We only wish we had a restaurant like this back home in Chicago. Every dish was memorable. The Hamachi Crudo was the best we had on the island, fresh, vibrant, and perfectly citrusy balanced. The fried chicken absolutely lived up to the hype and then some. My personal favorite was the perfectly seared scallop with crusted shrimp, an unforgettable combination. My husband and I also decided to add the salmon, and we were so glad we did. Every bite was plump, fresh, and beautifully blackened. What truly blew us away was the value. We've been fortunate enough to dine at Alinea and EL Ideas in Chicago, and XO reminded us of what those restaurants might have inspired at a fraction of the price. The level of creativity, execution, and care that goes into every plate is extraordinary, yet the experience is incredibly approachable. We left completely satisfied, already talking about when we could come back. One bonus, if it's your thing! It's currently BYOB while awaiting their liquor license renewal in August, so if you enjoy pairing your own wine or drinks with dinner, take advantage of it while you can. And do not even think about skipping dessert. The Brown Butter Bunny Mochi was the single best sweet bite of our entire trip, even edging out the delicious malasadas we raved about all week. The menu has changed to a more tapa style. We went with our two young children & they were very accommodating. We ordered a bunch of stuff but most notable was the Ensalada Salad, Croquette Cordero, Taco Raisu, Karaage Pollo, and for dessert, the Piña Borracha. We ordered some pork and steak skewers. These were ok, I would skip these next time. A little burnt. My favorite was the Ensalada Salad. The crab was sweet and the salsa opaca was so refreshing with the apple foam. Was told to smash the crisp on top and combine it with everything and that took it to another level! So good that we ordered another one. The price of this was so affordable too! The Croquette Cordero was like a mini curry ball with chimuchirri sauce. A little heavy but if you love curry, this is for you! The Taco Raisu surprised us. The taco meat was so flavorful!! Even though we were stuffed, we kept going back for more. It's like a deconstructed taco & you use the lettuce as a wrap. The Karaage Pollo came with a Cucumber Escabeche. It was so tangy and refreshing, which perfectly cuts through the rich, savory oiliness of the fried chicken. We got the Piña Borracha for dessert and that had a coconut cake, coconut lime mousse, banana lilikoi curd, and pasted pineapple on top. Amazing!! Great way to end the night. Nothing was spicy but there was chili oil on the table if you wanted to add more heat. We got 2 nonalcoholic spritzers, one lilikoi and one hibiscus, which were each refreshing and complimented the meal. Since the service was so efficient, after eating, we still had time to zip over to Magic Island to stroll around, take in the scene and enjoy the sunset before heading back to the airport. Our last evening in Hawaii was really special thanks to this delightful restaurant!

Everything seemed unkept, dusty, window seal by door had not been wiped in a long time. Looked like old Christmas decorations... and it's now august. The white walls had gecko dropping running down them. The final straw were the roaches that visited us at the bar. We could see them in the bar mats . I did bring it to the attention of the young girl behind the bar- she said "Oh sorry" shrugged her shoulders and said- "that's Chinatown." I can't believe how rundown this place has gotten. Oh, we did eat there- prior to seeing the roaches- food was not the same. Chicken mandarin salad lacked dressing, Beast bowl broth was disappointing.

We lucked out and found street parking nearby. As we walked into the restaurant, we were quickly greeted by the host/server who showed us to our seats along the U shaped counter. Loved the clean and modern decor inside the restaurant. As we sat down, our water cups were quickly filled and the only few questions they had for us was whether we wanted the wine pairing and we wanted to add the caviar toast and shaved truffles. We opted for the wine pairing, caviar toast and truffles. The meal was fantastic from start to finish. The most notable dishes for me were the ahi and caviar toast, cold corn soup, the lobster and the dessert. Sadly the portion of the toast here was about 1/2 the size of what we had at the cafe and unfortunately they didn't have uni for the night (maybe don't go on a Tuesday). Service was fantastic but they did have a few hiccups which were tolerable as the food was amazing. The wine pairing was also good and paired well with the dishes. As we are currently planning our trip back later this year, we will definitely head back to either the cafe (if the remodel is completed) or back to the counter for another meal. This is likely the best meal we've had in HNL in quite some time and highly recommend it.

My friends and I came here for dinner because of the Passport collaboration with Kohana Distillery…read more I'm really happy for this collaboration or else I may have never eaten at this wonderful restaurant. Located in China town, you have the normal issues of finding parking. The location is not large and is split into indoor and outdoor seating areas. We got seated right away and the staff was very friendly. The food is an Italian - Asian fusion. We started with the Hokkaido milk rolls and prosciutto san daniele. The bread was good but that black garlic butter made it even better. But for me the prosciutto was the highlight and should not be skipped. Mixed with the pickles in that sesame shell, it was so delicious. For mains we got the gnocchi and capellini. The beef cheek in the gnocchi was so flavorful and soft. And we finished up with the carrot cake. Everything we ate was good. I definitely want to come back again.

There were several servers walking by and three bartenders directly in front of us, but no one acknowledged us or offered any help. After about five minutes, one person in my party started walking toward the back of the restaurant to look for someone who could assist us. I stepped a few feet toward the middle of the bar area, near a POS system/kiosk, and finally a young woman who appeared to be the host approached me. She asked how I was doing and whether we had been checked in. I explained that we hadn't and that we'd been waiting in the front for someone to greet us, while pointing toward the entrance. She then asked if the person who had walked toward the back was with me, in a tone that came across as somewhat condescending. She proceeded to tell us to go back and wait in the front, without giving us any indication of how long we'd be waiting or any information about our reservation. As we stood there, I could see her whispering to a server, who then looked directly at us. Whether or not the conversation was about us, the whole interaction felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. After another five minutes, we were frustrated enough that we decided to wait outside. About five minutes later, the host came outside and brought us to our table -- right at our exact reservation time. What made the wait even more frustrating was that there were plenty of open seats on the outside patio, where we were ultimately seated. It felt like we could have simply been acknowledged when we first arrived and given some basic information about the reservation. Our server was nice, but unfortunately the service throughout the meal wasn't particularly attentive. They checked on us maybe once during the meal and also encouraged our party of three to order more food. I also noticed the same host from the front whispering into our server's ear right in front of our table. Again, I have no idea what was being said and it may not have had anything to do with us, but after the earlier interaction, it added to an overall uncomfortable feeling. As for the food, it was just average and, in my opinion, not worth the price. The onion dip was probably the best thing we had. The dan mien was essentially a cheesy egg noodle pasta with just a hint of tomato flavor, and the gnocchi was noticeably mushy and overcooked. Given the price point, I expected much more. The restaurant was definitely busy, particularly around the bar area, so I understand that things can get hectic. But being busy isn't an excuse for not acknowledging guests, especially guests who have reservations. The combination of the initial interaction, the lack of attentiveness throughout the meal, and food that didn't live up to the price left a pretty bad impression. I'm not sure if some of the attitude had anything to do with us being a group of younger-looking women, but that's unfortunately how the experience felt. This left our birthday celebration with a sour taste in our mouths. Hopefully management can address the way guests are greeted and treated in the future. Overall, there are plenty of places where I'd happily spend this kind of money, and based on this experience, Giovedi won't be one of them. Unfortunately, we won't be back.

My bad review is entirely based on how terrible the food was. For context, we ordered Tonkatsu…read moreramen and Tsukemen dipping ramen. Ramen, according to the server, was the most popular thing on the menu, so how likely could it get messed up? Tonkatsu: Rich, but lacked any salt or had very little. We requested some salt and that instantly made the ramen better. The noodles had enough salt to carry it, but the broth was not great. It tasted like the broth was watered down or reconstituted, however no seasoning was added to re-adjust the broth. Broth: Had little salt and lacked punch, umami, and was brown instead of white. Noodles: Had enough salt to taste good, but was slightly overcooked Pork: Extremely bland. Tasted like zero salt was added during cooking. Toppings: Greatly lacking in toppings Tsukemen: The Tsukemen had a lot of the same issues. Now being a dipping ramen, the broth should be even richer and more flavorful than any normal ramen. Tsukemen -- no matter where you have it in Japan, should be richer and saltier than most broths, but the broth here was severely lacking. For $26 a bowl this was worse than your DIY frozen ramen packs. Now I'm not asking for Japan-level of ramen mastery here, this is after all, just a tourist spot -- but if your Tonkatsu is the best selling item, you have to step it up. Our server did mention that some people complained about the amount of salt in ramen, so they adjusted it. But dare I say, instead of diluting the normal salt/seasoning amount for everyone, couldn't you just add a separate, flavor-light version for people inexperienced with ramen, instead of diluting the original for everyone else? If you're reading this Mr. Morimoto, I would highly encourage you to fly here and order the ramen. I think you and I would share the same opinions. P.S. I've also been to your other Morimoto spots and it was not this bad.
