DON'T GO HERE! the cut i got was horrible. probably the worst cut i have ever had in my life. i wish this was just me over reacting but it is un bearable. i asked to cut off an inch. i had to ask the girl to stop cutting because she had hacked off 4 inches. the cut is so awkward i can't do anything with it. it looks like a really wierd version of patty from the peanuts except with horribley cut too short bangs. i urge you not to go here or even think about it. don't end up like me!! read more

I came to Diane because I needed to get a trim for my short hair that was growing out. While my hair was growing out, I noticed that the person who cut it before (in Taiwan) messed up pretty badly at the top of my hair. Fortunately for me, the only person who seemed to notice this was me, until I went to Diane. She noticed the problem right away, and unfortunately, because that part of my hair was too short to really do anything about, she said she would fix it as much as she could, and to come back when my hair was longer so she could work on it some more. She made my hair look so much better and even though she couldn't fix the problem completely, she did a great job. I can tell that she really is good at what she does, so if you're looking for a cheap, great cut, go in for Diane and relax because she's great!! She's also hilarious and keeps you extremely entertained while you're there. My total came to be $20, and I since I normally don't have much cash on me, all I had was a $20. (I think normally you can use your card, but the machine wasn't working the day I went in). I couldn't tip her and felt terrible, but next time I go I am for sure giving her an extra big tip to make up for it! 5 star for Sam! Since being transplanted out here I had not been able to find a decent black hair salon. Since I'm so picky when it comes to my hair, I resorted to flying back home ( the east coast) every 8-10 weeks to my old hair stylist. So glad to have found Sam. She's smart, sweet, patient & knows her stuff... I promise you won't be disappointed. I do have to point out that this is not an exclusively "black hair" salon, so anyone can come here. So, Since I've moved here to the bay, I have tried out almost 10 different hair stylists. I came across the yelp reviews for Elegant curl and decided to give Sam a try. I was very happy with the service and the end result of my hair. Sam is very nice. She did my hair, listened to me about my concerns and gave me suggestions on hair health. Oh and it looked great! This review is for Sam. It's hard to find a salon that does African American hair, let a lone a hair stylist that is half way decent. I was referred to Sam by a friend of mine, and was a bit skeptical thanks to the many poor experiences I have had in the south bay area. Sam IS AMAZING! Her many years of experience, paired with her warm sense of customer service, and genuine enjoyment pleasing her customers is paramount. I left the salon feeling like I got more than my money's worth! Sam's skills are second to none, and her prices are so competitive! She really took her time (nearly an hour!), gave me tips and advice, and asked for my opinion multiple times. She really engages you in the whole process! I have been seeing Diane for the past few years. I get pixie cuts from her for $18 + tip. She is wonderful because she's good at being flexible with your haircut. If you come in wanting an unusual hairstyle, she is upfront and honest about whether or not she has done that style before and if she is nervous, but is willing to take on the challenge and has obvious fun while done it. During all times that she has expressed nervousness, she has done a great job! True talent! I feel more comfortable knowing upfront what my hairstylist is feeling, rather than being fooled by a confident facade. I, and two of my friends, have come in with unique hairstyles on multiple occasions and we have all left as happy campers. All female pixie cuts. She is open to criticism and takes comments well. Diane is amazing! I got my hair colored by her a week and half ago. At first I was a little unsure if I wanted to get my hair done at all because I've had horrible experiences with hair salons. I went in on a tuesday and she talked with me about colors and what she recommended, then officially scheduled an appointment for thursday. I had blonde a blonde peek-a-boo done with the rest of my hair in a red brown. My hair does not cooperate with dye or bleach very well, but Diane made sure that the colors turned out the way I wanted. It took about three hours for the whole process and she trimmed my ends before I left. She's extremely friendly and although most of the people who walked in were older folk (who were all extremely adorable), I could tell that they care a lot about making everyone feel comfortable and establishing long term relationships and not just a business. If you're hesitating, I promise you, Diane is someone who LISTENS and gives suggestions but doesn't force it on you. I'm definitely going back! read more

My hair is very thin, straight, and hard to cut because it moves around so much, but she knows how to handle it. I adore my stylist Sam. I started going to Sam after my hair was really damaged from relaxer and wanted to cut all out and go natural. She did exactly what I wanted. Since then, my hair looks and feels great. I had a great experience tonight with Diane cutting my hair. I have normal very long hair and had it chopped off to a slight A-line cut just below my shoulders. Diane cut it the way I asked her to and made sure the length and style were right. She had me come with clean hair and straightened it while she cut and textured it. She took her time and was very friendly. Customer service, price and haircut were all good. Somehow I didn't get the memo that they don't have a card reader? what is up with that? Diane saved my hair after I got a nasty cut from another place just 30 minutes before. She was so nice and was even showing me how she was trying to fix my hair. My cut was so bad that one of the layers is too short and unless I want a really short hair cut, she advised I just wait till it grows out which is fine by me but she helped even out the other layers and make it look better. It was a cold Wednesday afternoon. After days of putting it off, my hair could wait no longer. It was so bad that it had begun taking a life of its own. Styling itself as it pleased, rather than listening to what its master requested of it. I was making the appointment over the phone when suddenly, she walked into the room. By she I of course mean: My 19 year old girlfriend, Lisa. She herself had been having trouble controlling her revolting hair. Although, I think we could all agree her situation was far from being as severe as mine. The stage was set. Fate had determined that, on this Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we would be getting our haircut together. In we went! We were instantly greeted by 2 friendly smiles. I usually don't look forward to haircuts because, being the antisocial introvert that I am, Its an awkward experience sitting there quiet while they cut my hair.
