The Evie delivered as everyone loved their meals and drinks! Over the two meals got to try the pressed sushi, crab cake (almost all crab!), filet mid-rare, millionaire ice cream, key lime pie, skate schnitzel (special), side Caesar and cornbread. The food was excellent and the lunch specials prices are phenomenal I ordered thee waygu hot dog ....yes I said hot dog...hands down one of the best dogs you'll ever munch! So, we chose The Evie to lunch today, not knowing anything about it, the cuisine, nothing...we are Detroit natives. The space is welcoming, lighting, attractive art and music; offering a slightly romantic vibe, yet suitable for family and business dining. Shai was our waitress and engaged us by providing recommendations from the menu. She was exceptional, timely, caring, and pleasant! We are picky and decided not to waste her time...and selected simpler menu choices which were excellent! I had the Petite Wedge salad; delicious...and the American Wagyu Chicago Style Hot Dog...simple but really good...just what I had a taste for... My husband ordered the Evie Classic Burger...he described as cooked to perfection, extremely delicious...both dishes paired with fries, good too! Cocktails: martinis and mimosas were spot on. This place is located on Michigan Ave above the Allen Edmonds shop. Came here for happy hour which runs till 6 PM. They had a few wines for $10 as well as select spirits. The menu was a little unclear as to what the cocktails were but we asked the bartender and he gave us some options. We got a French 75 and old fashioned. The old fashioned was a bit diluted since it was only 2 oz of whiskey with a lot of ice but I enjoyed my French 75 which was the proper amount. We also got a spicy tuna roll for $12 which came with 8 pieces and spinach artichoke dip for $9 which came with chips and sides of salsa and sour cream. This gem is easy to miss since it is on the second floor of a Michigan Avenue building. It is a dimly lit, warm restaurant nice for a date but lively enough to let old friends enjoy themselves without feeling self conscious. The volume of food here was overwhelming. We got the Restaurant Week menu and felt we could have ordered one order for two people and would have been satisfied. That said, we got 2 orders and ate it all! The smoked salmon appetizer could have been an entree. It was moist and full of flavor and served with 6 toast points that were well buttered. The other appetizer was a soup that was also wonderful. The entree for my partner was a pork chop with greens cooked to perfection and nice and thick. The beef, mushrooms, and carrots I got were also great. I was so full, I left some of the mushrooms (and I love them). Luckily I have that extra stomach for dessert--the key lime pie was solid and I had the tres leches cake--divine! And the customer service was even better, our server (Jack) was very patient as we tried to figure out exactly what we wanted. I ended up getting the crispy jalapeño sushi roll, a side of smoked carrots, and a side of kale salad, and I was FULL! I think their sushi is not just fresh but a perfectly rolled sushi sliced into a beautiful presentation. Last night's was meh in creation, and today's was not rolled well at all. I feel that the fish used was sparingly done so, too, but just this morning's. I had them fill the two pieces with no fish and the one that had a VERY thin sliver. The male mgr had the woman add additional fish. I don't think he was thrilled with doing it, but I'm there a lot. And right is right. We're visiting from out of town for business, saw the Evie was highly rated, and decided to check it out for an early dinner. We stopped in around 5 having not had lunch since we were flying into town and they were able to accommodate us without reservations. The space is on the darker side and gives off an old, classic steakhouse sort of vibe, despite the menu's seafood focus. The menu is pricey so if you plan to have a drink or two, a couple of starters to share, and an entree per person, you'll be paying around $80-100 per person. The wine list is pretty average - some okay producers, but mostly mass market stuff, and no vintages listed. BTG had about 8-9 options each for white and red and will set you back on average $15+. Bottle prices are around 3x RETAIL (so 3.5-4x wholesale) prices for a couple of the labels I recognized. For example, the current release of the Columna Albarino is $15 wholesale (around $19-20 retail) is on the menu for $65/bottle (4.3x wholesale or 3.25x retail). If you're hoping to enjoy some unique BTG offerings or distinctive/unique producers, you really should consider going somewhere else. Overall, the food was quite good. One thing to keep in mind is that we thought the portions were absolutely massive, particularly for the entrees. The lake white fish was an entire side of fish covered in lemon butter and came with a huge side of broccolini. The crispy fish sandwich, while pricey ($32), was also so large that it was basically two normal sized fish sandwiches. Keep in mind, we hadn't had lunch so we were starving and we couldn't finish all the food. If you're lighter eaters, definitely consider sharing. One entree was definitely more than enough for two people. That helps on the wallet too. Overall, it's a good spot and in a pinch, we'd definitely go back, but there are so many other places to explore so it's unlikely we'll be in again any time soon. read more

Spontaneous dinner on a Friday, driving into Chicago for a weekend getaway, hungry and ready to kick things off right. My wife pulled up Yelp on the drive in. Evie popped up, looked great, checked for a reservation, nothing available. Didn't matter. We were pulling into the city hungry at 5:30, short walk from the hotel to meet our friends, it was going to be a food night, and all four of us wanted good food and good drinks at a good place. So we walked in anyway. The hostess didn't flinch. Warm, welcoming, got us in without a reservation and put us right next to a window overlooking Michigan Avenue. Not a bad way to start a weekend in Chicago. The space is beautiful, upscale without being stiff, the kind of place that actually lives up to its photos, which isn't always a given. Our waitress was perfect. Attentive without hovering, knew the menu, never rushed us. The kind of service where you don't notice it because everything just...works. The food was the real story. We went hard on sushi, the Osaka Style Pressed Sushi, Red Dragon Roll, Volcano Roll, and the Signature Roll, and every one of them landed. The Osaka is sashimi-style ahi tuna stacked with avocado and spicy tuna, the Volcano comes loaded with Maine lobster, and the Red Dragon brings the heat with shrimp tempura, spicy crab and jalapeño. Don't overlook the starters either, the Fresh Baked Bread, Smoked Carrots, and Spinach & Artichoke Dip all earned their place on the table. Drinks were on point across the board. My friend's wife went with the Midnight in Peru, Hendrick's with chicha morada purple corn, pineapple and honey syrup, and was evangelical about it all night. My wife went off menu with a gin and pineapple and the bar handled it without missing a beat. My buddy and I locked in on the Barrel Aged Old Fashioned, private barrel Wolf Point bourbon, and look...we had multiples. Each. Zero regrets, full accountability. Worth it? Completely. Great food, great drinks, great company, great view. Honestly could not have picked a better first stop if we'd planned it for months. Pro tip: if there's no reservation available, show up anyway around 5:30 and just ask. Worst they can say is no. Best case? Window seat overlooking Michigan Avenue and the perfect start to your weekend. read more

After eating at their sister breakfast place Wild berry pancakes I decided to check out the Evie for dinner. I picked up to go and was so excited to see char grilled artichoke hearts on the menu. Back at home they are usually only fried. They were grilled perfectly with a creamy remoulade. The signature roll had tuna that was like butter, and all kinds of flavor explosion with the mango and cucumber. My least favorite would be the little gem Caesar. I loved the lettuce and dressing, but the croutons were more of a dusting that gave a sand like texture to the dish. Bonus points for having a steak on the kids menu that went over very well. Absolute perfection! Hidden gem. If you're not looking you pass it by, but don't! Beautiful location, great view of Michigan Ave from our table so it was well lit. We were greeted right away and promptly seated. Our server was Katie D and she was delightful. We started with the grilled artichokes, never easy to eat but delicious. I ordered the Evie salad with grilled chicken and my boyfriend had the Thai salad with chicken. Both were fantastic. This is a super vibey and cute spot, but again I have to go against the grain as my experience did not live up to the hype. My mom and I went here on 6/15/2024, we had reservations, so we were sat immediately when we arrived. We were greeted promptly and ordered some drinks and bread to start. The bread and butter was yummy. For dinner, we got a Caesar salad and added chicken to it and we got the crispy fresh fish sandwich - we shared everything. The Caesar salad was bizarre to us, they put a chicken breast on the side of the salad (on it's own plate) instead of on top/making it a cohesive meal, like why? The salad was okay. The sandwich was good, however I prefer it with less slaw and the fries that came with it were lukewarm and it seemed like they were the ones at the bottom of the bag as they were all small. We got a new set of fries, but they were the same temp and length of the initial ones, so maybe that's how the Evie does it (insert shrug emoji). Best service I've ever had! Paige was fantastic, and didn't skip a beat, even with a trainee. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and specials, along with giving great recommendations. I had a Lululemon shirt and nice shorts on and didn't feel out of place, but most people were dressed up a bit more. I don't normally eat or Ike mussels, but my friends encouraged me to try them, and they were good, the best I've had. This was an unexpected little find. We were in town for the largest industry conference of the year on top of many other happenings around town and wound up here. Could not grab a table but sat at the bar for dinner. Everything was divine! Service - check! Drinks - check! Dinner - check! Coming in on ground level you enter and ride an elevator up a level. And, in this instance, you have definitely been elevated a level. I would traditionally deep dive on the food but this business was a standout on service from the moment we walked in and were warmly greeted by a hostess. She saw that we had a large wheeled package and immediately had someone come and take it where it would be kept for us while we dined. Lots of hustle and bustle all around including my team, but the next stop was the bartender and he took time to understand what I liked (and didn't) and made sure I was happy with my drink. Saw signage on the sidewalk of the Mag Mile and immediately curious, so up the narrow escalator into Evie. It's nice to see it's not a chain anymore. It was a much more welcoming upscale ambiance than I expected and the vibe was your suit jacket corporate types having business discussions around the bar and nearby tables. Lighting was fairly dim and background clanking coming from the open kitchen mixed with jazz music overhead. I was promptly greeted at the bar and offered water and menu. I wasn't all too hungry but was up for a late afternoon appetizer/snack stop. I wrongly assumed this was going to be American fare food, but it was all over (that's good if you really don't know what you want) - the friendly bartendress raved about the sushi rolls and I was intrigued! Strangely Chicago doesn't have many good quality sushi spots in the downtown vicinity. So I'm here to say Evie's sushi was beautifully prepared, fresh and so delicious! Price point is $22-$28 per order which seems high but considering the location, it's to be expected. Guessing most guests are floating their corporate Amex to settle the tab. The other bartender said "save room for dessert, our Millionaire Ice Cream is divine", he then said that on your birthday month you can come in to get a complimentary scoop.... Well hot damn! I'm glad I know now because I feel like it was offered to me but when I said I just had a birthday, he said "happy birthday m'aam" but no Millionaire Ice Cream was served. Boo-hiss! I was visiting from New Orleans and decided to celebrate my birthday at Evie after hearing great things from locals, fellow travelers, and even seeing it all over TikTok. I was genuinely excited to experience it for myself. When I arrived, everything started off amazing -- the restaurant was beautiful, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and both the host and our server gave excellent service. I thought I had found a new favorite spot. Unfortunately, that changed quickly. When our salad order came out, I saw it mistakenly delivered to another table. The young server realized the mistake and took it to the manager, Liz Chernousova. What shocked me was that Liz appeared ready to send that same salad (which had already been placed on another guest's table) back out to us. I watched the entire thing happen. When she noticed I was watching, she rolled her eyes and turned away -- no apology, no acknowledgment, nothing. From that point on, her attitude completely changed, especially because there was a well-known Top Chef dining there that night. It felt like all attention shifted toward him, while everyone else was overlooked. As someone who owns a hospitality and tourism business in New Orleans -- Treme Luxury Experience -- I understand the demands of this industry. But professionalism, food safety, and respect should never be compromised, no matter who's dining in the room. What should have been a special birthday dinner turned into an uncomfortable and disappointing experience. Evie is a beautiful restaurant with a great reputation, but leadership and consistency are key. One might think this restaurant's menu is having a bit of an identity crisis (as you'll see by what we ordered) but I just think of it as there's surely something for everyone in your party. Greek Tavern Salad: fresh, nice big chunk of feta. Exactly what I want in a Greek salad. Chicago Style Hot Dog: an elevated hot dog. The dog was thick and flavorful. House made brioche bun was soft. Came with fries. Crab Rangoon roll: so much filling and super flavorful. Loved it. Bread with herb garlic butter: so buttery, soft, toasty. Garlic butter was delish. I came in here to experience the ghost of Bandera. What was the rotisserie chicken wall, is now a sushi bar! Not better or worse, just different! I sort of like that it's tucked away, and small and intimate. This review is for the bar area only, we didn't order food. The concrete bar is gone (it was looking just a wee bit shabby after all those years) replaced with a very nice slab of wood. General layout is the same, kitchen is still awesome looking, with the chefs working very hard as usual. The restaurant itself is lightened up a bit - more white walls, and weird metallic art. Okay, so drinks time. Have we hit peak cocktail yet? I mean . . . $21 for a Mag Mile martini (Bandera was notorious for their fantastic martinis) that is less than HALF the size of the previous establishment? $21?! So, two people quaffing the customary two cocktails is $84, and we're not even up to any food yet. I know it's the Mag Mile, and this is an expense account restaurant now. *sigh* I'm not one to cheap out on food or drinks, but this is just a little bit outrageous. I'm not sure I'll be back soon. I can afford these prices, I just don't want to pay them. That Happy Hour looks great, though! Bathrooms are identical - they were stylish and clean then, and nothing has changed. I was a big fan of the restaurant (Bandera) that used to be in this space so when I chose The Evie for dinner on a recent trip to Chicago, it had a big hurdle to overcome. And you know what? It hit the bar and then some. At my visit, The Evie had only been open for about a month and I hadn't heard anything about it yet so we were on an adventure. I had a friend meet me there and we were both impressed by the food, the level of service and, of course, it still has those great views up and down Michigan Ave. What I liked about the menu is that is has a wide range- certain to please everyone in your group from steaks and sushi to salads and entrees. We started with the bread. Honestly, these warm baguettes with the garlic butter were well worth the $6 that they charge. My friend seemed to think that the bread was complimentary (it's not) and he kept ordering more! Made me laugh but I guess he was starving! For my entree, I had the red dragon roll, and my friend had the ribeye. Both were terrific and we split a spicy tuna roll just to see how it stacked up to our favorite sushi place and it was a winner! Know that this place, while it looks casual, is serving up some great food at fine dining prices. That ribeye that my friend had was $88 and each sushi roll was about $25 so know before you go that you are going to be spending Mich Ave prices at The Evie. The drinks were well poured and the restaurant even brought out a complimentary dessert when I told them I was celebrating an early retirement. I always think this place is a little hidden as it is up one level from street level so you take an escalator up to the 2nd floor. Use the address and you will not have a problem finding it. I'll expose myself as old when I say that I dined at a Stetson's clone in the Bandera space. The Evie (pronounced like the Pokemon?) serves sushi and American food overlooking Michigan ave. It feels a bit touristy but it's potentially the second-best restaurant on the Mag Mile after The Purple Pig. The prime rib beef dip was incredible, bonus points for using softer bread than I usually encounter. Sushi was a great effort. Fries not to my liking. Good service. 3% junk fee. read more

Beautiful restaurant & friendly service! We came on a Wednesday evening, no reservation but we were seated immediately and they were already busy! The holiday season was alive with holiday parties and customers all dressed up in festive attire! Our group tried about 6 of their rolls and all were delicious. My favorite being the Mag Mile and Rangoon rolls! I ordered the Crispy Fried Fish sandwich for my entree before realizing all the rolls were more than enough for dinner. The fish was tender with a crispy shell and the coleslaw and pickles added a nice crunchy and balance to the fish. The fries were DELICIOUS & well seasoned. The art and decor of the restaurant also had a nice dark vibe. I look forward to coming back & trying different dishes next time. read more

Years ago, Bandera was in this location. I see that The Evie is the replacement restaurant. I stopped in one evening after work for a quick sampling from the menu. I ordered two signature maki rolls. One was a dragon roll. The other was crispy jalapeño with hamachi. I must admit that they nailed the maki rolls. Great flavor and no rubbery texture, which was all the indication I needed to speak to how fresh it was. I paired both with cold sake. I noted the non-sushi menu items for if I return at a later date. I am curious as to their other offerings. read more
