After the purchase was completed, I was contacted and told that their supplier had increased pricing and that I would need to pay an additional $183.40 for them to fulfill the order. When I declined, they stated they would not honor the original price and refused to complete the transaction. This is not a pricing issue from the customer's perspective -- it is a failure on the seller's side to properly manage inventory and supplier pricing before charging a customer's credit card. Once an order is confirmed and payment is taken, the expectation is that the seller will honor the agreed price. Attempting to pass along post-sale cost increases to the customer is not an acceptable business practice. I offered multiple reasonable solutions, all of which were rejected as "non-negotiable." The company ultimately chose not to honor a confirmed and paid order. Buyers should be aware that pricing shown at checkout may not be honored after payment is processed. I would not recommend doing business with this company.

The installers (no idea who they are or how to contact them) did a subpar job. Upon closer review, there is a large gap between the counter and the wall and the installers did not use silicone or caulk to finish the space. It was not like this with my old countertop that they removed. I reached out to Rock Counter and they advised me to "ask my contractor" to fix it. I don't have a contractor. I literally replaced my countertops. She then reached out to the installers and they told me (by my iPhone photo) that my wall was crooked and they can't do anything about it. I pushed back and said that it is impossible to see by a photo. My complaint was forwarded on to the owner of Wonder Counters and I received this response: "He viewed your photographs and he advised that your bathroom walls are quite crooked and require a handyman or contractor to use spakle and silicone to fix that extensive gap, as caulk will not do the job. Angie's List, Home Advisor and Task Rabbit are places you could find someone who is willing to do this work for you. Hope you're able to find someone or know of a friend who is handy." Not only did they not do a good job, I now have to hire somebody ELSE to come fix it. Based off of an iPhone photo. I can easily say I won't use Rock Counter or Wonder Counters for my kitchen (next project).

I did some cost comparison with a couple of the larger wholesale bath and kitchen retailers in Chicago, and the inventory at J&D was more what I was looking for and best value. This turned out to be a great recommendation! There were a few issues with the tub and toiler we got, but these were manufacturer issues and not anything caused by J&D. However, J&D corrected the issues immediately and went to bat for us with the manufacturer, so there were no costs incurred to us and only a very minor delay to our project. Overall, we'll definitely go back to J&D for future remodels and hope to work again with Lien in particular.

I was skeptical about how a…read moretiny storefront in Andersonville, only blocks from my home and next to a storefront I spent a lot of time in when it was a knitting ship could have vanity stuff like I was looking for, but Yelp said they did so I suspended my disbelief. It all made sense when I found that they have a design area upstairs. Downstairs they have various kitchen items and gadgets. An appointment is required to talk about cabinetry and get some estimates. I met with Marnie, and she was fantastic. I had Opinions on what I did and did not want and she seemed pleased with that and that I had actually done the research on the cabinetry options she'd sent, so I came in knowing precisely which ones I wanted. It definitely made the appointment go more quickly since I already knew which door styles and colors I was interested in. She talked with me about some of the technical aspects (e.g., framed vs. frameless vanities, top mount vs. under mount sinks, etc.) and they had various examples on display. They also had most of the door styles to have a better idea of what they'd look like. For the bathroom in which the vanity would be installed, the options here were more than we wanted to spend. I'd like to consider an update for the main bathroom, though, and would look to AKB for that job. The companies they work with have really beautiful products. Honestly, it makes me want to do more remodeling (main bathroom! Kitchen!) because wandering around the showroom made me want everything! I'm probably not quite that much of a masochist given the construction that would entail, but....

I have been able to upgrade a closet, open packages, soda bottles, and fix an award plaque, and more, all thanks for my trusty Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. I am of the age when many friends are getting married, and I often see knife sets on wedding registries. Here's a $100 cash and a tip that will save you $150 more: just get a good chef's knife, and keep it as sharp as reasonably possible. You may need a bread knife and maybe some steak knives if you plan to do some bbq-ing, but still cannot beat a trusty chef's knife. True to form, both my pocket knife and chef's knife get a fair amount of work. I have a pull through sharpener at home (though it technically hones more than it sharpens). This one is good for some regular 'maintenance' when the edge starts slipping instead of gliding through a tomato, but every now and again, having a professional but a proper edge does wonders. Now, as much as I would love to have a kitchen knife sharp enough to shave with, I also know this would result in a brittle knife that would break as soon as it met cartilage. At the same time, I have seen many reels of knives that can cut paper on the fly. While I found out there is a certain technique to do so, Northside Cutlery was able to get my knives sharp enough to glide through paper. The rates are reasonable at $7/knife, and the turnaround time is fast. Everyone working the shop was kind and friendly as well. While professional sharpening is not something I do on a regular basis, I can absolutely see myself returning to Northside Cutlery for all my sharpening needs.

We have nothing but the highest praise to give to them for delivering such a fantastic end result. The team we worked with was fantastic. We really enjoyed the hands on process of working with Elizabeth, our designer, who helped guide us through the entire process of creating our dream primary bathroom. We had a fair bit of back and forth throughout the design process but it resulted in some highly detailed and thorough design plans, which included realistic renderings, all the selected hardware and finishes, and overall layouts. We felt like we got great advice from Elizabeth, and she really listened to what kind of look and feel we were going for. We then got with Daniel, our project manager, who helped turn the plans we received into reality. He was also a pleasure to work with and always provided very clear project updates via text and phone. The teams he assembled for electrical, plumbing, and carpentry were all very professional and did great work. Daniel was also a great problem solver who was able to come up with clever solutions to any issues that came up. In summary, we are very happy owners of two completely new bathrooms spaces designed and built by the lovely team at Chi Renovation. We recently had our bathrooms remodeled, and we couldn't be happier with the results. The scope of our project included a full renovation of primary, kids and guest bathrooms, and the quality of craftsmanship really shows in every space. From the tile work to the fixtures and overall layout, everything feels high-quality and thoughtfully done. We especially appreciated the unique elements incorporated into the design, like the wall-mounted faucets, recessed vanities, heated floors, and heated bidets--features that truly elevated both the look and comfort of our bathrooms. The team was excellent to work with from start to finish. Elizabeth, our designer, and Eric, our project manager, were both fantastic and communicated clearly throughout the entire process. Elizabeth helped bring our vision to life with thoughtful design choices and a great eye for the overall look and feel, while Eric kept everything running smoothly and on schedule. Our contractor, also named Eric, did very high-quality work, and it really shows in the finished product. Everyone we interacted with was professional, respectful, and clearly took pride in their work. Communication was consistent, and we always felt informed about what was happening next. The team's level of care and precision really stood out--they made sure everything was done right. The entire process, from design to construction to the final finishing touches, was smooth and well-managed. They helped guide us through design decisions without pressure, kept the project moving on schedule, and made sure the final result matched (and even exceeded) our expectations. The end result is a set of bathrooms that not only look amazing but feel built to last.
