On our last night in PA, we stayed in a cute town called York. We were lucky enough to find this spot just next door from our hotel. We ordered for carry out to take back to our hotel with us. The architecture and decor inside this place made our jaws drop. It was so cozy and elegant, I wish we had The First Post near us at home! I had the glazed salmon with herbed mashed potatoes and my boyfriend had the Ribeye Steak. We were genuinely blown away. My boyfriend said it was the best steak he's ever had (we are from CA and we've had some amazing steaks). The First Post is a must try. In my opinion, there aren't a ton of great restaurants in York so if you're looking for great food this is definitely where to go. I had the fish and chips and a cosmo. Both the food and the drinks were awesome and the service was excellent. If you like calamari you should definitely try it here, best calamari in York. read more

We ordered gluten free pasta for our son, and they said the kitchen forgot to do gluten free pasta and we had to wait even longer for them to fix it, but judging by his belly and bowels I'd say it was NOT gluten free pasta and the kitchen got lazy. Love this place for a nice relaxed dinner whenever visiting the York area. The building is interesting and very well done. Great history that the restaurant was built on. The parking lot is across a creek but they have a golf cart to shuttle folks back and forth folks that don't want to walk. The food is always delicious. A very diverse menu but also very conforming, not pretentious at all. I love the calamari and she crab soup. I typically go for the special but they have a ton of good dinner selections. First time here was a success! Got us right in on a Saturday night. Started with Korean ribs and calamari, both amazing!! The lemon sauce that comes with the calamari is incredible. Drinks were good. Lori gave us great insight about the menu. She was attentive, fast, and sweet. I ordered the shrimp and scallop Florentine that came with a salad, portions were generous. The last night in York area and we wanted to have a nice dinner. The First post had some great reviews and we were told that they were a must visit. We walk in and they told us it would be a wait for a table. 10 mins later we get seated and the place was half empty. Ok sure. The server comes right over and she was pleasant. The atmosphere was quaint and comfortable. Our table had crab dip, scotch eggs, pasta, chicken, crab cakes, and a burger. So we had a decent sample of their food. The scotch eggs were very good the dip and the burger were mediocre. The chicken and crab cakes were good as well. The only issue we had was all the waiting. We had to wait for everything an overly long time. It took over a half hour to get the food after ordering. 15 mins to find out the beer we ordered was tapped out. Even the to go boxes ketchup took almost 10 mins. It would have not been that surprising if they were busy. There was even a manager looking guy that walked by several times but never checked on us. Good find in York, PA. Went on Sunday and had fish and chips, pierogis, cheeseburger and burrata. Everything was good and service also really top notch. A few notes. Pierogis were a little flat and I like them more blonde than crispy - they leaned on the crispy side. But very tasty! Burrata was not very soft and creamy (more firm) and some of the corn (which was the bed for the burrata) was burnt and overdone - most of it was good, but some pieces were not edible. Since we live out of state, we could not be with our parents on the day of their 70th wedding anniversary. They marked the day with dinner at the Post and phoned to tell us about it after. First, the waiter added candles to their desserts when he learned of the occasion, Another staff member stopped to chat with them about their early days of marriage after the Korean War. We were gobsmacked when our parents told us the Post comped their entire three-course meal so no bill! This place was a great choice for dinner. Showed up without a reservation with 2 coworkers. The service was decent, I did have to remind my server about the soup I ordered, lost a star on the review for that one. He was quick to see the wine bottle was empty though and tried to suggestive sell another bottle. My entree came to the table right after I received the soup, ugh. Overall it was a good choice. The French onion soup was definitely worth the reminder and it was my highlight of the dinner. In regards to the Roasted Chicken entree, the green beans I swapped out in place of brussel sprouts were very very buttery, almost soggy. These minor issues still concluded in a good dinner. Traveling to York a lot lately for work . I had Sunday free and had a this place bookmarked to try. I've been hankering for some crab cakes and Yelpers gave them fair marks. I started with the calamari appetizer. These were NOT fried from frozen. They were obviously fresh. They came with a marinara dipping sauce and a lemon aioli. My waitress commented that she likes to put a little of bot on the calamari. She was not wrong. A great start to the early dinner. For my entree I went with the crab cake meal. It came with 2 crab cakes topped with a corn relish, Mashed potatoes and green beans.There was a roasted red pepper cream and an Old Bay butter to dip in. The crab cakes were delicious. If there was any filler, I couldn't taste it. It was large pieces of fresh crab. The bits of sweet corn on top were a wonderful compliment and added texture. Swiping the cake through the butter produced the ultimate bite. The greenbeans were perfectly done with just a touch of crispness. The potatoes were good but made better with the Old Bay butter. I decided to try desert. I went for the s'mores flourless chocolate cake on the recommendation of my server. It was ok. Too sweet and the cake was cold. Not horrible but a step down from the crab cakes. The service was great even as it started getting busy. I will be back for the crab cakes for sure. read more

My parents took me here for my birthday. We were very pleased with our meal. I was torn between a pasta dish and the crab cakes so our server suggested I get a crab cake on the side so I could have the best of both worlds. He was correct. We had an appetizer of calamari and that's the best calamari that I have had in York thus far. The squid was fresh and perfectly breaded and cooked just right. If you overdo calamari, it can get rubbery, but this calamari was soft perfection. We each had a cup of French onion soup that was wonderful. Grandpa opted for the Maryland crab soup instead and was pleased. Our food did seem to take awhile but you know, at a nice place, you need to wait for them to cook the food. Sometimes its hard to put your phone away, not stare at a tv either, and get back to the art of conversation but we did pretty good at once we remembered how. That's the longest conversation we had as a family for some time really. When the food did arrive, I had a chicken, pesto, sundried tomato, with pasta dish and an a la carte crabcake. I was very pleased with both. The atmosphere is upscale without feeling imposing. You could wear jeans and a nice shirt and no one would bat an eye but it feels like a nice, classy place because it is. If you had a date and wished to impress, the First Post would be a good choice both for food and atmosphere. They also have a full bar. Would I go again? Undoubtedly yes. read more

This is definitely one of the best restaurants in the entire area. I used to come here all the time when I worked in York, and even now that I live in Lancaster I come here as often as I can. The food is amazing. It's really second to none in the area. Their crab cakes are especially good, and it's hard not to order them every single time. I've had dinner here with my fiancee, boss, parents, etc. Friends from out of town, co-workers, and more. The venue itself is really nice. Huge parking lot, and a golf cart to drive you to and from your car is really appreciated when it's raining. The waiters are all friendly, helpful, and nice. If you go, please order the Tres Leche. It's the best in the state. It's the creamiest Tres Leche I've ever had, and is just heavenly. I love it. read more

My wife and I along with another couple had dinner here Friday night and overall enjoyed it. First the negative part: we called to make a reservation and were told they only took reservations for parties of afive or more, so with our 4 it was first come first serve. We got there around 5:30PM and there was plenty of room. We asked if we could have a table overlooking the bar and were told that they were reserved. How could they be reserved since they seat 4 and they only reserve 5 or more? When we left there were still open tables up there. Now for the good stuff. I was happy that the bar carried Blantons. This is one of my favorite bourbons and not carried in many places. The bartender poured a generous drink. My wife ordered shrimp n grits and I got the fish n chips. Pictures are attached. They were both great. Larry got the ribs and Shelly got the steak which were both very good. We will be back again to try some other dishes. I visited this restaurant with family and was told that it was fabulous. The sensational food and outstanding service proved the claim to be on the mark, making me wish that I lived in York so I could become a regular customer. The setting is colonial with unique artwork and decorative pieces giving a feel of what you expect from historical Pennsylvania. The restaurant had just introduced a new menu offering a wide selection of delectable choices that appealed en masse to our growing appetites. Our table finally settled on two starters, the Scotch Eggs and Calamari. I was absolutely amazed by the eggs, consisting of an incredibly crispy exterior paired with a perfectly cooked yoke. These were by far the best Scotch Eggs ever and can't be missed. The Calamari was equally as good with a light, fragile batter that literally floated on the top of the calamari with lightness and bite-worthy crispness. Chris, our server soon brought out the freshly baked biscuits with butter, which by themselves could've satisfied me as a meal. Soft and baked to an exact consistency of what real biscuits represent, these babies were hard to put down. When I finally ordered the Chopped Greek Salad, my stomach capacity was being severely tested, but I bowed to my duty to indulge and was happy that I'd done so when the salad arrived. It was a massive portion that was shared with several at our table. Unlike most Greek salads, this dish wasn't drowning in dressing and overly saturated with peppers and other overwhelming veggies. Instead, the crispy lettuce was topped with light tempura strips, cubed meat and lightly intermingled with dark olives and a light dressing that brought forward the savory taste of the combined ingredients. It was a fantastic salad and a consummate balance to the starters. Of course, all this food was accompanied by wonderfully mixed extra dirty martinis with blu cheese olives. During our meal, we were visited by Dennis, the main chef who checked to see if we were enjoying the meal. This was a nice touch, firming up the overall quality of this fine restaurant. The others at the table who ordered the glazed salmon, short ribs, Hibachi steak, and pasta Bolognese joined in consensus to rate the food as the best ever.
