There's a variety of poke to choose, spicy ahi, lobster, shrimp, salmon, hamachi, tako, etc. Once you pick your poke, you can add toppings for $7/lb. There's usually not much room to put too much toppings anyway. One drawback is that there's no place to eat inside. It is solely for take out. This is the BEST POKE BOWL I have ever had! Came here for fresh Poke since Yelp recommended it, and it really lived up to the hype. I typically don't like to order Tuna on the East Coast, but the tuna is so delicious and fresh in Kauai. I ordered the Spicy Ahi with Crab poke bowl. Then, added toppings and sauces from the topping bar to my liking (loved that we could customize this part). Not too expensive -- definitely worth the price. As many other reviews have already stated, this is probably the best fish market around! I thought that The Fish Express had a great selection and also their price is quite reasonable. Due to covid, it is more of a get in and get out type of situation (so didn't feel like we could linger too long to admire everything). However, the staff was very friendly and the place was exceptionally clean (it even smells clean). We came in the morning right when they opened and got one poke bowl, a bento box for our little one, and of course a masubi. The poke was really fresh and the bento was very tasty. I would pass on the masubi as I found that it lacked any great flavor and also it could use a bit more sauce. The most interesting thing on our bowl was the lobster poke, which I have not experienced on the mainland - to say the least, I was absolutely in love with it! In fact, the poke bowl was so good, that we went back again right before our flight (the same day that afternoon) to get another one! Granted, most of the fish and everything else was already sold out, we were there 3 minutes before closing and they were still very nice about putting a bowl together for me. Angela is correct about one thing regarding this place: Go there! Our party of six descended on this tiny shop while we were in Maui last month. The poke is fresh, excellent, and much cheaper than the shops back here in the mainland. Just be prepared for two things: 1) Lack of parking spots and 2) The long lines. read more

This place is small and cute but heads up, no place to sit down and eat, everyone takes it to go. They have a great selection of poke and hot food. The boyfriend had a poke bowl and fried chicken. The Fish Express is a must stop either on your way from/to the Lihue Airport! I cannot believe how much aloha the owners/workers of this establishment have for questions and general patience as you make the tough decision of what to order. My friend had the poke bar and was able to add toppings that she wanted and pay according to weight. We also ordered two plates to share and they were both delicious! The ahi katsu changed my life. It's basically a counter where you can select your fish for various poke bowls or fish preparations. Food is cooked to order and very fairly priced. If you get the poke bowl, there's a self-serve bar where you can add toppings like seaweed salad, mushrooms, furikake, and a multitude of other tasties. Fish express, how I dream of your delightful poke and cooked fish! This place rocks and the revolving door of locals and tourists alike shows it. The atmosphere is more unassuming deli counter in-and-out than anything else. It's not much and there's nowhere to eat inside or outside unless you stand against a wall. A few folks had an american picnic in their cars. This makes sense, as given the necessity of getting people in and out, and the precarious position of their facility off the highway, they need to get folks movin'. The service is polite, efficient, and importantly not pompous. The staff doesn't mince words and will tell you frankly about the quality and freshness of their fish compared to competitors. But they'll woo you, all the same, and won't scoff at your poke topping selections/combinations. The poke here is to die for -- everyone has different favorites but the spicy lobster poke is my favorite. The spicy scallop and shoyu poke are dandy, too. It's all by the lb and you can pick regular or large sizes. Might as well go for the large as it's a better deal. They standardize everything so that any extra toppings they'll weigh and charge you for later. The toppings are diverse and ask for recommendations from the staff for each flavor. Love how they have brown rice or white rice options. I opted for the poke on greens as I think it gave you a little more poke by weight! Try the macadamia nut cooked fish filets, too. Yum. We were blessed to plan for a fish market because I love grilling And the hotel has 3 (25) year old grillshowever, we found that the meals offered at fish express are gourmet, especially the macadamia nut crusted mahi Mahi amazing adding their seaweed side we adore that meal. No longer do I need to grill. We have one week left here and two meals of this macadamia crusted Mahi we can eat it lunch and dinner everyday that's how amazing it is. The seaweed is so delicious first time I ever had it. But, here I can taste the sesame seed (oil) that garners an amazing flavor. I recommend this fish house above all else. Now, that I'm telling everyone the best meal I will have too go there right before they open in order to be able to Get the meals we love all the fish I've bought there moncong and Mahi Mahi are very fresh and grill beautifully. So, hmmm. I love fresh, sweet, Ahi. I ordered the onion and spicy varieties. Had to, it was what looked the freshest. No toppings, no sauce. I didn't even eat the rice. Sashimi lover here. Overall, the fish was excellent. However.... It is highly salted. I'm thinking it's used as a preservative. Highly unnecessary. The fish speaks for itself. Doubtful that I'll try a second time. FLAVOR - 3.5/5 The sauce was nice and creamy, good typical spicy mayo with masago and green onions. I didn't really notice crabs, felt like regular spicy mayo ahi. Their ahi pokes were all bit too salty I've tried ahi maui onion, ahi spicy, and ahi spicy w crab. You can also feel the big salt crystals pieces as you chew. Shrimps were perfect not too salty. PRICE - 5/5 I read some reviews saying poke bowls were quiet expensive here. But the price per pound was actually very good almost comparable to costco poke. Oh fish express! How I miss you! Located right next to the airport, this unassuming spot was the best place we found on our quest for the best poke! The fish was fresh and the variety was incredible. They have a variety of pokes in a deli style counter you can choose from and then you add whatever toppings you'd like(I chose seaweed, avocado, and a few of their sauces and it did not disappoint). They then weigh your bowl (really reasonable prices/lb for the island) and you are on your way to poke heaven! Come early, as they have great meals also prepared daily. Delicious fresh fish (poke and more!) and friendly helpful staff. You can also get poi, beers, sodas, and juices. The shop does not have any seating, but it's a short drive to Lydgate Beach which has picnic benches and covered areas. Or there are other beaches nearby too! We tried the macadamia crusted ahi with lilikoi and dill sauce which comes with white or brown rice and salad or potato salad. The greens are local organic mixed salad greens and they are really tasty and fresh! We also got the garlic Parmesan opa (?) which comes with salad greens. They also have delicious fried butterfly shrimp The price seemed high, but when we opened our boxes, we noticed each plate came with 2 fillets of fish, all fresh and flavorful and amazing and WORTH IT.
