Very busy when I got in but with seafood that's a GOOD sign. The hostess treated everyone like they were friends or family and it seemed like some of them probably were. I was sat fast and ordered a jalapeño margarita and 6 oysters on the half shell while I looked at the menu, a lot of good options but I'm a sucker for fried clam strips so I went with those. The oysters were very fresh and delicious. Clam strips were flavorful and not soggy or over fried. The food was so good that I couldn't resist getting desert and had their homemade key lime pie which was amazing. I definitely plan on coming back next time I'm in the area. We we're staying at the Wyndham Garden hotel just down the street so we walked about 3 minutes and enjoyed The Fish Grill restaurant. My wife just got an appetizer chicken fingers and said they were very good. I got the hamburger steak with sweet potato and cole slaw along with a salad. This was the best hamburger steak I have ever eaten. We shared the brownie with vanilla ice cream and like the main courses it was excellent. Our waiter was just like the food outstanding. The pasta also came with the option of soup or salad; I opted for the clam chowder soup. The pasta was very good and came with a good amount of shrimp. The fish grill is overall pretty good for us gluten-free gals. I had the sea-scallops with a side of fries and coleslaw. Yeah, you heard me; gluten free fries! The server was very knowledgeable about what was gluten free and what wasn't - surprisingly I couldn't have the rice pilaf, but the fries made up for it. Located in the heart of Dania Beach is The Fish Grill. They boast extremely fresh fish, and I would have to agree with them. We started out with a very impressive order of bang bang shrimp. The shrimp were ginormous! The flavoring of the sauce was very good too. We tried the fried clams next, which were not my normal style that I like but still they were very good and not too greasy. For dinner, my mother-in-law enjoyed the broiled mahi and said it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the Fish N Chips and I had the Mahi Tacos that the menu said were the best in Broward. I don't know about that last comment but they were OK. I must say the fish was very fresh, but the other ingredients were definitely lacking and to be honest a bit bitter. I would definitely return to try some of the other menu items out, but would probably skip the tacos. Otherwise, the restaurant was extremely clean as were the restrooms. his local restaurant has been around for many years and we've had numerous excellent meals there. Monday, May 27 my boyfriend and I ate dinner there. We both had a salad and the swordfish with two different sides. I wasn't that hungry because I had eaten earlier. I ate a little of the fish and sides and all of my salad. I took my leftovers to go to eat for lunch on Tuesday. My boyfriend finished his. My stomach started feeling like I needed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night which is very unusual for me. I didn't think anything about it until I ate my leftovers the next day and got very sick from this meal. It took me until Thursday for my stomach to feel good enough to eat dinner again. It's still rumbling a little on Friday, today, but almost back to normal. I had numerous trips to the bathroom throughout three days with stomach pain and severe cramping while having to work. I used to love the Fish Grill but this was a horrible experience enough that I will never return. read more

Oh, how I hate being hard on restaurant during these times, but can't let tonight slide. Let me preface that all 3 of us had a bad experience with our meals. I had ordered grilled mahi, received broiled covered with a horrendous thick seasoning that appeared to be breading. I was told it was garlic seasoning, as I am gluten intolerant , I asked. Some oily, garlicy mixture was also drowning the broccoli. I have had simple grilled mahi in the past so was seriously disappointed. My mil ordered seared scallops. Came drowned...yes, you guessed it, in an oily, garlic sauce . Servers are overworked, we understand that, but we had to finally ask hostess for tab. A loud, obnoxious patron at the bar talking on speaker should have been asked politely to take his call off speaker. Other customers rolled their eyes at me. It wad another demerit to our experience. The only food we were allowed to order was wraps, salad, or soup & had to take it to go even though there were other patrons still in the bar drinking. I got the Buffalo chicken wrap with fries & my husband got the turkey wrap with pasta salad. The Buffalo wrap was pretty bad - the chicken was mostly bread... hardly any chicken inside the breading so it just tasted like a fried mess. The wrap was barely grilled. The fries were just basic & were all soggy & gross by the time we got back to our hotel. Might've been a little better if we were allowed to eat at the restaurant & fries might have been crispy then. I never got in the door as the man who greeted them was rude and dismissive so they walked out and we went to another restaurant. I'm so glad that I decided to come to The Fish Grill for lunch! True to other reviews, the food did not disappoint. There was a nice selection of options for just about everyone's palates. I went for the coconut Gulf shrimp, and they were SO GOOD! Clearly freshly made, lightly breaded, HUGE and the perfect amount of coconut. They were served with a delicious sauce (I think orange marmalade with a bit of horseradish) - a perfect complement! The fries were slightly battered and oh.so.good. I decided to try to be (slightly) healthy and added a side garden salad. It was great! Beautifully arranged, and included grape tomatoes, cucumbers, and dried cranberries. The honey mustard dressing tasted homemade and was absolutely delicious! The ambiance was pretty low-key (I sat at a high top table in the bar area). Service was good also. On a street across from hotels by the airport, one would not expect much and it doesn't look like anything special from the outside either. Once we got seated, service was immediate. Menu prices looked a bit steep but portions were generous and food was excellent. Our server with ling blond hair (forgot her name but I think it begins with an M) was amazing. She was bilingual and spoke to our huge party as needed in English and Spanish. She came regularly to check on us and refilled our drinks without our glasses going empty. Definitely worth the stop and loved the convenience of it being right across the street from the hotel. read more

But friendly TIP --- do not come here and expected to be seated right away and served right away, then be rude to staff because things didn't come in a timely manner for you. The food was pretty good. We got the lobster roll special and it was yummy. As well as the mussels and my husband got the mahi (a tad spicy). This place has an old Florida neighborhood bar/restaurant feel. Again. Do not come here and expect immediate service then be rude. I saw a few people last night be rude as they were leaving. I think everyone is trying. No one is just sitting around. We forgot to take pictures but it was a nice three blocks from our stopover hotel. read more

This restaurant reminds me a lot of the kind of place my grandparents would take me as a kid. Real food without any frills. This is my first time in Fort Lauderdale, and this spot has a lot of charm. It seems to be a very popular spot with the locals. It's good for a little people watching. All the parking is out back, and passing the dumpster on the way in almost ruins your appetite. Pleasant surprise! Sat at the bar, Juvi was outstanding and outgoing while juggling a full bar with most of the patrons also having meals. Ordered blackened Red Snapper. I chose the salad as the starter and to my surprise it was packed with flavor that handled the Blue Cheese and Balsamic dressing. The Snapper filet that was seasoned and cooked perfectly. It had just enough of a bite to give great flavor without overwhelming the fish. Baked potato and coleslaw rounded out the meal. The potato variety they is fantastic and the coleslaw was as perfect if you like sweet variety as I do. I topped of my meal with their housemaid KeyLime pie. Was not greeted, odd and uncomfortable with no where to wait but lean against a wall where servers were coming in and out. They weren't busy, but our order wasn't done I was told, waiting another 35 minutes, received our order for two and went home. Was unpleasantly surprised and how small the portions were. Very expensive for small mediocre food. Our food was cold and very soggy, we live right by the restaurant so it wasn't due to the ride home. We are in walking distance. Decent inside, but nothing note worthy. Just a bar with food. One and done experience, I wouldn't go back or recommend. Highly disappointed. read more

Lauderdale only to find jam packed parking lots and an hour wait for a table - switching gears led us to The Fish Grill and my intuition told me we may have stumbled upon a little gem ..... we were RIGHT!! Parking, no problem. Table, no problem. Food - EXCELLENT! Service - EXCELLENT! Oysters, clam chowder, ahi tuna, swordfish, baked scrod - all excellent. There was only 1 hiccup and that was the steamers were just too sandy for our taste but the manager was delightful and happily took them off the bill as we continued to order more and more food! When I told the server we would be back, it wasn't a lie. You could even tell the loyalty of the customers as the regulars slowly filed the bar seating. Loved the entire experience. read more

First time here. Came for dinner after checking in to our hotel the night before our cruise. We were looking for something close by after a long flight & no meals since breakfast. We were hungry! Reviews were good & it was right down the street from our hotel. Very nice hostess & we were seated right away. Nice ambiance & comfortable booth. The server was efficient but kind of "blah". Not very friendly. My husband & I chose the tuna melt, me with Cole slaw & he with fries. Delicious fries! A bit crunchy & well seasoned. Preferred them to the coleslaw even though that was good also. Very disappointed with the tuna melt! The rye bread was nicely toasted. The tuna was dry & bland. My daughters had the shrimp & fish tacos. Came with tortilla chips but NO salsa? They both loved the tacos. I tried one of the shrimp & it was so good! I should've had that instead of the tuna melt.
