It was close there. We returned to The Flat in mid-July, not having eaten here since March. March brought us the worst Reuben sandwich we have ever had. It was a special of the month, but it was fat laden and inedible. Our conclusion was that the regular kitchen crew might have been on spring break, but it took several months for me to convince my wife (and mother-in-law) to return on a recent, rainy Saturday at lunch. One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, so one bad meal after many great ones follows suit. I will say that sometimes there is inconsistency's in the dishes. I've had the pulled pork poutine when it was excellent with crisp fries and fluffy interior with that gravy and I've had it where it was a soupy and limp mess. But most times, the food is good. And that's the draw, it's a scratch kitchen. But it's also a bar. A sports bar. A great craft beer bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But it comes with bar decor, and it sounds like a bar. It can be noisy. It can be empty or crowded. Depends[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. But the wait staff is usually hustling to cover the floor and in busy times the bartender or kitchen helps run food, so you just have to look at the whole thing and love it as a great neighborhood bar. We will come back, our burgers were excellent and the wings are consistently good. I think they might work on an in between buffalo sauce, the medium is not hot enough and the hot (or hottest) is so hot as to drown flavor. But that's just a nit to pick. I'm glad that we returned and had a good experience. read more

I love this place The cozy, edgy vibes are great, especially at night. And on weeknights, it isn't very crowded which I personally appreciate, but the crowds are present on weekend nights or during one of their events! The staff are friendly and happy, and my food was delicious. I got the Aloha Chic and absolutely loved it and will be back for it. Honestly, all of the sandwiches and burgers looked good. They also have monthly specials which is cool! I'm naturally very picky with my 5's, so really the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the fries were kinda mid. When I have to pick feathers out of my wings at the table and also apply one of the sauces that they were supposed to be tossed in on with the knife I had, i'm kind of all set. Wings cooked as asked, sauces were disgusting; both of them. The hot garlic parmesan were extremely salty. Coyingly salty. I also think there may have been an issue with the blue cheese and avocado crema. I am pretty sure they had turned sour. I still left 18% to the waitress because it wasn't her fault. Maybe I can fix them at home. My father and my daughter, both of whom aren't too hard to please were also quite underwhelmed.. she had the avocado sauce on her burger that she barely got half way through. My Dad got the flat dog that had barely any bacon crumbles on it and told me the hot dog itself, pretty salty, also. I forgot to mention the appetizer; great pretzel bites, beer cheese tastes ok, but was oily and broken and wouldn't stick to the pretzels. So, basically, the vessel it came in was still more than half full when the pretzel bites were gone. I imagine the greasiness came from the bacon in it. So, although not bad tasting, it was executed pretty poorly. I assume the waitress told management or ownership about the situation with the wings, but, I wouldn't know it, as nobody else besides the waitress addressed it. Waitress DID ask if I wanted the wings redone, or a different sauce, but, I politely declined. I didn't throw a tantrum or a fit, but when asked, I gave an honest response. read more

Was charged $15 for a "rack of ribs" with a "side of pasta salad". What was given was not even the equivalent of *half* of a rack of ribs. This is not only a rip-off but it is blatantly false advertising. Completely unacceptable. It's not even enough pasta salad to be considered an actual side dish. The service from the front of house guy was great, this wasn't his fault. But the rest is completely unheard of an unacceptable. A regular at the bar was "Brett" was friendly and gave us very valuable advice about the area. We loved his opinion as we are searching for places to live and move here to start a new life and venture! I was curious about these boiled peanuts they serve as it is not something I'm used to seeing in Indiana. They offer Cajun boiled peanuts (among other menu items). Great service, amazing food, and beer, what more could you ask for in a good local bar. I stopped in for lunch today with my husband. We both ordered burgers which in my opinion are what they do best. We grabbed some fried pickles as well, don't let the color fool you, they are amazing. The habanero ranch is so good and packs a punch with the spice. My husband ordered The Good Habit with onion rings. He added bacon and loved it. I got the Red and Blue burger which was really good but I had a hard time finishing it just because of the spice level. So beware! This one is definitely spicy. I've known about The Flat for years. Now that we live closer we decided to give it a try. Busy on a weeknight means they are doing something right! Tables were full, but there's a long side bar table that was empty so we sat there. A nice bartender came over immediately for our drink and food orders. We sat admiring the chalk art while we were waiting, and perusing all the fall specialty drinks and menu items. Hub and I each ordered a burger, the teriyaki and the classic. Both were so delicious, with the meat cooked perfectly on both. Absolutely one of the best burgers in Greenville! Im not a fan of steak fries but if you like them theirs are good. Stopped in on a Tuesday around 6pm. Found out Tuesday is trivia night and you need to reserve a table. You can eat outside and the weather is great so outside is where we ate. Got fried onion rings and they were over the top and served hot. Good beer selection and tried a few and all were served cold. Food arrived in about 25 minutes and was hot. We were trying to find somewhere that had immediate seating and I find this place. Atmosphere is a little bar like, but it was still a nice looking place with friendly staff. The food was ahhhmazing! I do not recommend getting the Buffalo tenders hot, they were way too hot to enjoy, maybe mild would have been a better option. The fries pickles, & the poutine fries were to die for. The pickles were so crispy and the dipping sauce was awesome! The poutine fries were just AWESOME, if you go here, that is a must! The beer cheese was good but pretzels were a little hard. The habanero ranch wings were good but I didn't taste no heat, just ranch. Everybody else got the hulk, chilli cheese, & good habit burgers & said they were great. Awesome lunch! Service was ok, but for one person running the bar and seating area I understand. Wife's drink was forgotten and she had to drink half my beer (see below). The beer selection is fair. They have some craft beers and some domestic. The liquor drink menu was pretty extensive and awesome so you might have to have a couple. We ordered the fried pickles for a starter. They came out piping hot and fast. The pickles were tasty and crispy. The ranch had a little kick to it. Perfect for me, but could be an issue for some. The sauce I chose was hot, I was warned about it being hotter than most hot (if that makes sense). Word to the wise, if you do not like super Hot things, order the medium. Had me sweating and tingling by the end. It was perfect!!!! Speaking of the sauce, it wasn't as if the wings were soaked in sauce. Imagine a dry buffalo chicken wing. The fries were good and hot. They weren't crispy, not to thin and not steak fries. Nice meaty potato fries. The blue cheese was ok, nothing special to written about. Wife had the kebab special. Tried both; one was excellent and one was ok. The lamb kabob had great flavor, seemed like a lamb meatball on stick, was a little dry. The steak flavor was fantastic!!!
