I am currently looking for a reliable carpet store. I did walk through this particular store a while ago and was totally dismissed by all staff working that day. I thought I would check the Yelp reviews as I now really need to replace my carpets. Sounds like they have a poor reputation when it comes to customer service and it wasn't just me. I am a woman with a plan when it comes to renovations or construction. I knew what I wanted in flooring but I didn't know what to expect during the time of COVID-19. I was helped by Frederick Alexander who couldn't have been more helpful or diligent. We looked at all the white oak options, selected finalists, and did the pricing on my first visit. Frederick could not have been nicer about checking to make sure there wouldn't be a back order situation with COVID-19 supply chain interruptions. Since this installation was going to need to be vetted by an HOA , he was super helpful and meticulous filling out all the necessary paperwork. Each person on the team was helpful from the initial measure to bringing in the wood to acclimate to finally doing the installation. The craftsmanship and care was really high and there was no weird off gassing from cheaper materials. Each person on the team did their best to quickly schedule and work through hiccups that happen in any installation. Without reservation, I would be a repeat customer. read more

We had to have a new carpet installed over a slab floor, after having plumbing work done. Keith, the salesman, was great in helping us pick out the carpet. If I could give The Floor Store 10 stars I would. I went to a few other flooring stores and The Floor Store beat their prices by quite a bit. I was overwhelmed with trying to find the right wood flooring for my new house. But that all changed when I went to The Floor Store. My salesperson Maricela was so amazing and took the time to listen and helped me design my whole house, that overwhelming feeling went right out the window with her guidance and listening to my needs and wants. I couldn't have done this project without her help. Thanks Maricela. If you don't come look at this beautiful showroom they have in San Carlos you are doing yourself a disservice. I couldn't believe how much they have to look at and pick from. I thought this would mean higher prices, but it was the complete opposite. Also, Maricela didn't just help me with my flooring needs. She helped me pick out the most beautiful countertop that I can't stop looking at. I don't want to forget about the installation department working around my busy schedule and installers were so nice and left my home spotless every day they left. I would never recommend this store. We went in the first time and were unsure what we wanted. All the salespeople were sitting talking and we felt as if we were interrupting them. We then had their estimator come out to measure, then went and picked out both LVP and patterned carpet. When the quote came in it was considerably higher than we expected. Salesperson told us it was because of pattern and therefore it would be 40% waste. As The Floor Store CONSTANTLY advertises and Larry Flick is ALWAYS touting various sales we exchanged numerous emails with the salesperson. She NEVER went out of her way and frankly wasn't tremendously helpful at all. We instead went to other stores, obtained more quotes, found higher end patterned carpet at S&G along with fabulous LVP and an incredibly helpful salesperson at half the quote from The Floor Store so we took our business to S&G and couldn't be happier. The LVP looks amazing and now we can't wait for the carpet installation. ** Update: I appreciate the call and frank discussion with the Regional Manager today. Thanks to Larry and Cambria, I am able to update this review. They responded with every effort to fix the situation. We ended up replacing the entire area where the damage was done because the original tiles were no longer available. Cambria made sure we got a suitable replacement tile and the floor was quickly replaced. The installers that did the job were very fast and professional. I almost want to give 4 stars, but the wait and having to make a stink before getting timely customer service means its only 3. read more

Compared products and pricing around town and I'll glad I came across the floor store in San Carlos, my sales person was Rachelle and she was amazing, super helpful and honest, get back to me prompt and easy to work with. We ended up doing 2 bedrooms in herringbone style that my wife really wanted and we love the end results. It took 5 days but they now look amazing. Our installer Isac was very professional, showed up on time everyday and the work is amazing. Highly recommend these guys for your next floor project :) read more

Update: soon after my previous review was posted, the store manager for the San Carlos store reached out to me, scheduled the repair to the installed flooring, and followed up again to make sure it had been completed. I'm adding one more star to my review because of this follow up. Original review: The Floor Store made a simple install project a far bigger hassle than it should have been, offering poor quality service and wasting my time repeatedly. I do not recommend them. Our order was simple enough: a laminate flooring install on the staircase and landing for a home that we are planning to rent out. Our salesperson, Steve, made a mistake with his initial estimate, first estimating a lower price, and then correcting it to about 20% higher after we had already signed the order and paid the initial advance. He offered to refund our advance and did give us a 8% discount on the final, higher price, so I think this was a genuine error; but it was an initial taste of the type of service that we were going to receive. Once the order was signed, Steve's communication with us became increasingly cryptic and curt. Some of his emails were garbled and hard to understand, and some were just straight out rude. As a result, we dropped the Floor Store from consideration for a much larger hardwood/tile flooring project at the new house we are moving into, since we were uncomfortable with the tone and quality of our interactions with Steve. Scheduling the install itself was another runaround. Steve promised me a date in the week before our listing went on the market, but he evidently neglected to let the install manager, Dave, know. The first time Dave called me to schedule the install, he gave me a date for the week after Steve had said the install would be done; when I told him that Steve had promised an earlier time, he abruptly said that he would call me back, then never called back (this is a recurring pattern as you will see below). It took several calls to Steve, and then a call to the store over the weekend, to confirm a time for the installer to come out. At no point did Dave call back to confirm directly with me a time for the install. The installers were polite and did a reasonably good job overall. However, there was one area of the flooring that needed fixing. Steve first promised that he would take care of it, then deferred to Dave to resolve the issue. After a few more calls, Dave did come over himself to look at it, though his work timings meant that I had to stay home during a weekday morning to meet him - he was unable to make it before 11 am. Dave agreed that the flooring needed fixing and said that he would call back to schedule a time for the installer to come over. Surprise, he never called back. The next day (today), I've called him three times. The first time, I was able to reach Dave, who said again that he would check with the installer and call me back (any guesses on whether he did?). The second and third times, I got his voicemail. As I write this, I am still waiting for someone to call me to schedule the fix for a flooring install that we shouldn't have had to fix at all. The Floor Store does not place enough value on their customer's time. The service is poor and their sales and install people simply do not follow through on their promises. I'm disappointed by this experience and would not recommend them. read more

We worked with Mr. Keith Goddin on three projects at our new house: refinishing first floor, replacement of carpet with new hardwood on the second floor, and replacement of carpet and installation of tiles for the basement. Mr Keith was professional, very helpful along the decision making process, came on site several times to measure and in the end to check the work and great to work with overall. He explained all the steps ahead of time, was patient with our questions, helped us choose materials and was accommodating as we were adding elements to the project, like tile work under a laundry area. Mr Keith was always respectful and honest, which we valued a lot, even through some delays on delivery of materials, which are normal during the holiday season. Mr Bryan arranged for the crews and the scheduling of the projects. He was easy to reach and ensured that all projects were finished within the hard deadline we had set. Once materials arrived, all work was done on time, and we could not be happier with the final product. All floors of our new house are essentially redone by the Floor Store and they are exactly as we want them. I will also add, that the crews performing the job were great, accessible by phone, came back when we wanted things to be checked, and generally did not cause us any problems. One of the crews even finished ahead of schedule. We did not experience any of the horror stories with contractors that we have heard of, and I 100% attribute it to having worked through the Floor Store. To us, working professionals, having a contact person who is managing our projects who is reliable and will pick up the phone, matters a lot, and the Floor Store delivered that, along with an excellent end result on our floors. read more

This is an overdue review but a big shout out to Rachelle! I came into the Floor Store February of 2020 to pick out a new carpet for the nursery before our daughter was due. Rachelle was extremely helpful in picking out a carpet that was within budget, high quality, and stain resistant. The install was delayed due to lockdowns but once they were given the green light to resume services, Rachelle was able to squeeze us in for an install before our baby girl arrived. We just had Cortec SPC floors (Pierpoint Walnut) installed throughout our entire home by The Floor Store in San Carlos through our Costco membership. Wow!! My favorite part of our entire home remodel are the floors; they are stunning! We couldn't be happier with the whole seamless experience and grateful for our floor installer, Emmanuel Ochoa. If you can request him, I highly recommend you do so. He is a meticulous craftsman; precise, thorough, and cares that every detail of the install is done properly. We worked with Gordon, during Covid, to select a hardwood floor for our family room. Made a couple of appointments to see him and he came to our home to assess our floor as we knew there was a good 1.5" (or more) difference between the kitchen and family room floor. He assured us that they could take care of it by installing plywood. Isaac and Louis were our installers and they did a beautiful job. The were efficient, professional, clean and fast. Isaac even told us we could use or original baseboard and that we would get a credit for the baseboard they brought! They were done in a day. If I could rate an individual, I would rate Jennifer 5 stars for her customer support and genuine concern to find a solution to our issue. Pricing was competitive and the have a very large of flooring options. Very good installation crew- did professional job, all looks good. Way overpriced and terrible service. Save yourself a bad experience and go to Floor and Decor a few miles away in Burlingame, much better prices and service. What happened: Last year we moved into a new house and needed to redo the hall and bathroom tiles. We went to The Floor Store because of the good reviews. The original purchase moment seemed to go well. Unfortunately we learned soon enough that the salesperson was unreliable with details. First he wrote down the wrong style of tile on the order. Luckily we caught it and got it fixed. Then, once we arranged for our tile installer to come on the date the tiles would be available, he got that wrong and almost canceled the delivery. We had to get another salesperson to intervene to straighten it out so our installation could happen. Our installer does good work and is honest. He reported to us that the Floor Store had sold us a top of the line grout that was unnecessary and didn't go with our tiles. The installer got us the appropriate cheaper grout which we used (and turned out great). When we tried to return the Floor Store's grout we got a runaround. We didn't go to the store, as this was during Covid restrictions and it wasn't safe to drop in. So, we emailed to ask for a return. The salesperson asked us for a bunch of details about the item, even though they have the bill of sale at the store. We sent those. Then they asked for a picture of the container. We sent that. Then they asked two more times for additional pictures. Bizarre but we sent those. And then they just stopped responding. They wouldn't work with us on the return. We'll never go there again. read more

Emmanuel was our floor installer. He was very nice and helpful. I do not know other installer's name (sorry). They took out existing flooring, levelled the concrete floor where it was needed, installed new floors in direction that I wanted (even though he suggested it would make space look smaller), cleaned up after themselves and all done while wearing masks. I think it would have also have been done sooner than the projected three days, if it were not for the levelling of the floors. But still done less than three full days. Yaaayy!! I was in the market for flooring and as soon as I walked in to The Floor Store Maricela Hernandez helped me pick some choices, I was looking for some dark flooring yet matte. I was very overwhelmed with the mount of choices there was, however she is so good she helped me narrow it down and made this process much easier. After a few days of looking at my samples in my different rooms and areas. I picked one and scheduled for a measure, then placed my order and when order arrived I was scheduled for installation. I have been in the store 3 times over the past 4-5 weeks. Each time I walked in, employees were not wearing masks and were very slow to put them on when I walked toward them. Today was especially unpleasant as the person helping me made a snide comment about Covid and the fact I chose to use a pen from the 'clean' pen container instead of the one he had been using (after touching the front of his mask to put it on). His comment was very unprofessional. I won't be going back to this store. read more

The first time we used The Floor Store for some stone - Bret was super helpful and all went well. The second time I returned to purchase carpet - I was referred to Kathy and the next time - Yvette. I had all the dimensions and they said they would call me and give a "labor day discount." Weeks have gone by. Never heard back - No discount. I went in today - Bret was on the phone - said he would help me in a minute. He hung up - and then called someone else and continued to ignore me as did everyone else. I took a photo of the material I need and will get it from another vendor. Very disappointing after three visits to have accomplished NOTHING. read more

I'm glad everyone else had a great experience and I wish I'd had the opportunity to see how good they are, but here is my experience.... My wife and I visited the store on Saturday, June 13th in the late morning. We spent about an hour looking at samples and getting great input from Laurie. We settled on a few samples to take home, scheduled a measuring appointment, and headed home. I returned later that day and provided a floor plan of our home and some basic dimensions so Laurie could start working on the project. On Tuesday, June 16th, as scheduled, someone came by the house to measure. We were told we'd hear back with a quote soon. On Sunday, July 5th, I returned to the store to see what had happened....we hadn't heard a thing. I was told they had not received the information back from the person who measured and they would get right on it and we'd hear Monday or Tuesday. That Monday or Tuesday was a week ago and nothing. Maybe this review will get their attention and help them in the future. read more

I visited this store on Tuesday of this week. It was a very disappointing experience. As a person of color, there is a certain sense you detect when you don't feel welcomed in a space. I immediately got that feeling when I entered this store. It was uncomfortable and I felt the male associate's interaction with me was more of a way to get me to leave than to actually help me. Later I overheard this same associate on the phone chatting with someone (on the company phone) that seemed to be a friend, and the entire conversation centered around gossip, and how someone he knew used their company office to throw a birthday party for their daughter and stated that people "lack common sense." Also, there was another associate, a woman, who was assisting a customer, and the entire time she and the customers were interfacing, they were very loudly discussing politics: such as ANTIFA and their distain for the response to the black lives matter movement , conspiracy theories about COVID19, how it's not real and how Dr. Fauci has ulterior motives and has involvement with China, and how this virus was made up to make Trump look bad help Biden get elected. Their conversation was extremely loud and invasive and I felt disrespected that my space wasn't being respected Since their loud conversation was disrupting my shopping experience. Also, an Asian female customer came into the store to retrace her steps to find her lost jacket: and as soon as the customer left, the associate near the desk in the carpet area, the associate that the customer interfaced with, rolled her eyes and made a face in what seemed like a non-verbal attempt to imply the customer was stupid. I also overheard a group of associates gossiping loudly near the desk where the carpet is. Lastly, when I asked if my sample I had previously ordered had arrived, the male associate made zero attempt to help me find it and said "we don't have a system in place when it comes to the sorting of samples, so the best I can do is take your name and number and I'll let the associate that ordered the sample know you came by." It was clear he didn't want to help me, and he had no regard to the fact that I drove to the store to see if the sample arrived. Overall it was an extremely bad experience: I will never return. I felt unwelcome as a black man. The entire experience was demonstrative of White privilege. The behavior displayed by the associates would NEVER be accepted or tolerated if they were people of color. I advise store leadership to review this situation and offer cultural sensitivity training to all staff members present that day. read more

Buying carpet for our home from the Floor Store San Carlos has been one of the worst decisions we have ever made. The staff is disorganized, but my husband wanted to use a new local business, so we went ahead and ordered carpet for our home. Every step of the process has been awful, from lost orders, misplaced documentation, the manager promising improvements in service , with the outcome being that the installation looks bad, and the staff is not returning calls or emails. I have NEVER written a bad review of any business, but I do not want anyone else going through the disappointment and expense of working with this business. read more

My wife and I were looking to install hardwood in our home before we were to place it on the real estate market. We found the that the floor store in San Carlos had the best selection and value of flooring items, but ultimately their customer service is what earned our loyalty. Jamie and John (Twin brothers) were two of the best employees we've had the pleasure of working with. They both spent many hours helping us decide what worked best for getting our house ready for sale. John completed a extensive inspection of our home and after listening to his recommendations, we chose the cheaper route and installed carpet. Neither of the two were interested in up-selling us, but were more concerned with what would work best for our given situation. We will visit John and Jamie again when it's time to install hardwood in our new home. We highly recommend them and the Floor Store to anyone considering changing their floors.
