This is the first review I have ever written a review. I purchased hardwood floors and carpeting for my 1600 square foot condominium. The sales associates were very patience with me as I changed my selections several times. The hardwood floors were just installed yesterday by Emmanuel and his team. They did an excellent job, with Emmanuel as the lead installer. He pays attention to details, and wants to get the job done the right way, the first time. They arrived on time everyday, they were friendly, professional, and cleaned up at the end of each day. I am pleased and excited, knowing the carpet installers will do the same excellent work as Emmanuel and his team. My entire experience with the Floor Store has been wonderful. I had a flooding issue that resulted in damage on two floors of my home; requiring both a carpeting replacement on the upper level as well as a total replacement of hardwood flooring on the lower. Rose at The Floor Store SF-SoMA was helpful, communicative, and efficient in facilitating both projects. As you can imagine, (though I hope you don't have to experience for yourself firsthand) this kind of situation is incredibly stressful and unpleasant. Rose was a terrific ally during this ordeal. I'd consider giving them 4 stars for the pre-purchase experience and for the helpful ladies at the showroom (Rose and Diamond). Unfortunately, that was the only bright spot of my experience. A combination of defective materials and really, truly, abysmal customer service (I really should have read the 1-star reviews here first) led to my basic condo flooring replacement project turning into an ultra-stressful, 9+ month, $40k+ nightmare. Yes, $40k+ to replace the flooring in a small condo. I couldn't live with myself if I gave these guys more than 1 star, despite the showroom experience. I will always regret my decision to purchase from them. Speaking of purchasing from them, I should mention that I didn't realize this until much later, but their prices (even after "sale" discounts) were consistently at least 20-30% higher than what buying direct through a contractor would have cost me. One of my installers burst into laughter when he heard how much I had paid. :( After the first installation attempt, when I realized that something was wrong and I reported the issue, they mishandled my claim and ignored me when I tried to point it out, blaming everything on the installers I had used. The second time around (two additional installation attempts and several months and $$$$ later), with indisputable proof that the material was defective, they worked with the manufacturer to get a *partial* claim approved (2 additional months later and for only about 1/3rd of the defective material), but then they made a mistake that caused me to lose another $5k+. They told me that I would get a full and unconditional refund of the cost of the material, without mentioning that this was *actually* conditional upon me ordering another product from the same manufacturer. A month and countless unanswered customer service calls later, they finally revealed their mistake. By that point, it was too late for me to do anything about it, since I was running out of time and I had to make plans based on the incorrect information they had given me earlier (and even in writing). Unfortunately, after making me wait an additional "couple of days" (in actuality, well over a week), they informed me that "corporate" was unwilling to do anything about it. I had never seen this level of indifference towards the customer's needs before. I felt completely taken advantage of. read more

Terrible customer service. Do not go here unless you have time to call 4 times for a receipt and you want to be ignored. I called on Wednesday to order an extra box of planks that I needed to finish my project. Kristina said they could have it in SF on Monday. I needed it sooner so she said we would have to go to their warehouse in Richmond to pick it up. Understood. My husband would go the next day ( Thursday) from the peninsula to go pick it up. Thursday morning my card was already charged but I had not received an email receipt. I called 3 times on Thursday spoke to other salespeople and told them my husband is on his way to Richmond I need a receipt emailed to me so he can pick up our box. Hours passed and my husband was close by and still no receipt was emailed to me. On my 4th phone call of the day, I told Diamond I am about to go into a doctor appointment I cannot call back. We need a receipt so that Richmond can give my husband the box of planks. FINALLY a few minutes later, Diamond emails me a receipt!! It was not hard to charge my card but definitely hard to get a receipt. I send it to my husband and off to my appointment I go. Now, guess what when my husband asks for the box in Richmond they tell him it's already been sent to SF! WTF My husband drove about 20 miles each way plus toll charge to be told that the box was sent already!! After I have already called 4 times for a receipt on the same day explained each time my husband is driving that day to Richmond! This shows us the company could care less about our time. My husband told the warehouse he was not leaving without the box. The manager had to call SF to tell them my husband was there to pick up the box he was going to give him a box so they could return the box back to Richmond! This is the first time we have our floors done and we learned a lot from this experience. We have other properties that will need flooring in the near future and we will definitely look elsewhere. read more

We had wanted to change our floors for quite a while but it was such a big project and we were nervous. We went to The Floor Store after hearing many good recommendations from friends. Lucky us! We walked in and were immediately greeted by Andrew and within one hour we had chosen our floor and were on our way. It happened so fast because Andrew knows everything there is to know about floors and helped us narrow it down in seconds. Once the floor arrived at the warehouse our experience with scheduling through Sean was easy breezy. Next came installation and I've never met harder or more efficient workers in my life. Cesar installed the floor with his partner and did an exceptional job. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was done with the utmost care and worked with us to figure out what would look best in the details. My husband and I just purchased our first home and decided we needed to replace the floors. The Floor Store was our first stop in our journey of learning about floors and it was a great first stop! Shanna the Store Manager was the person who helped us and gave us a great rundown of what our options were and really helped us start on the right foot. The Floor Store doesn't have a lot of solid hardwood options, which is the direction we ended up wanting to go, however, after searching around at other locations we ended up finding the one we really wanted and that was actually still in stock! They even price matched for us - which was really great because we found the same floor at a different location for half the price! In the end, we wanted to give The Floor Store in San Francisco our business because they're our neighbor and because of how incredibly helpful and professional they were on our first visit. Just asked for a quote for a 1350 sq foot condo. Asked for an conservative very high estimate for wood and flooring. Told the highest it could be is $30k, assumed 33k. Left a 9k deposit and got an estimate of 46k. Update - after a discussion with the floor store, they realized the estimate was out of bounds. They worked with us to make this work or provide a refund. This is a customer service that I can work with. read more

If there are less stars than one star I would have given it. Asked for a quote, the sales person came late after 45 minutes of the appointment. Then, brought only 3 samples (Cheapest, Expensive and most expensive). Then never heard from her. Sent e-mail, no response. This is after my on-floor/visit store experience where we could not find anyone to help us select the correct product. STAY AWAY. This is my 2nd time horrible experience. I did give them the benefit of the doubts. Very disappointed. And.oh. by the way, the president when he goes on commercial indicating they are committed to customer service and quality? Well - I have not seen either with two times incidents. Hint hint to the President. Read my and other comments to learn on what is happening on your field, as well as your local stores. read more

We give T.J. Oakley and the Floor Store on Geary in SF our highest recommendation, and thanks. They have done 2 jobs for us in the past few months and it was the best work we've ever had done. First was to carpet our back stairs. TJ helped with picking out just the right carpet shade and durability we needed. The installers were neat, precise and finished in less than a day. The 2nd job, replacing the kitchen and breakfast room floor, was more complex due to several unforeseen problems. Mainly asbestos in the old linoleum floor and, because I was going through cancer treatments, we could not do a remediation and demolition. The Floor Store doesn't do floor over a floor installation, but TJ stayed with us the whole way helping to find a quality installer who could do the job correctly and without demolition. Kudos too to Viktor and Dimitri from Red Machine Flooring who did the most meticulous work with the limitations. The floor is beautiful, safe and gives a whole new look to our kitchen. TJ and the Floor Store went above and beyond in their customer care and quality of materials and workmanship. I invite you to consider my experience when selecting a flooring vendor. I bought carpet from the Floor Store nine years ago and all was fine until humidity created ripples in the living room carpet. I went on YELP to find a vendor for repair. It didn't occur to me to go back to the original source. But lo and behold, Floor Store contacted me and asked if I had purchased from them. It turns out they cover this type of event under their guarantee. They sent the repair techs two days later, at no cost to me. I consider it well above and beyond for a business to reach out to educate a customer and provide service at no charge. When evaluating costs and other elements in purchasing flooring, please factor in The Floor Store's business practices. read more

This review is solely based on the customer service. We are remodeling our condo that we just purchased and heard that the floor store is a great place to check out some samples. The store is beautiful and they definitely have great options. But the man (who I believe is the main manager there) who was helping us, was a bit condescending. I was asking his opinion on a few different floor samples we saw in the store and he kept saying things like "oh if you want me to design your house that's going to be another fee." And I get that, but like I wasn't asking him to design my house... He then mentioned he had a separate business to offer design consultations and I asked him about how that works. And he said things along the lines of "oh I'm very expensive, I do high end stuff." Like good for you dear, but that is a nonresponsive answer and also implies that I can't afford you?? I don't know - the guy had an attitude and we were being kind and just asking questions. Not sure why he behaved that way. Anyways, I also thought that the floor store is overpriced too so my advice - go in to just look at samples because the store layout is big and nice and they have a wide variety. But you can probably buy the same/better quality stuff somewhere else for half the price. read more

This review is long overdue. After looking at five local companies, I purchased hardwood flooring for my entire apartment at this store in SOMA. My salesperson, Shanna, was excellent to work with - very knowledgeable, highly consultative in her approach, and extremely detail oriented. I felt that I was treated with care from the sales to delivery. Unfortunately, I had a pretty bad incident with the delivery company (not the fault of the Floor Store, rather the delivery company was hired by the manufacture). Shanna stepped in and went above and beyond to coordinate with the manufacturer to make sure that the second delivery attempt went smoothly (and it did). I will not hesitate to work with this company again. They stand by their products they sell and operate with high integrity. read more

Very positive experience when we replaced the flooring in the downstairs of our townhome. Sherri helped us in the showroom to pick from the different products and was very upfront about issues with COVID-related backorders. It was a bit of a struggle since the floor we wanted was delayed by the manufacturer but Sherri helped us pick a product that was in stock and we actually ended up liking it better. I found a good holiday deal on carpet from them which swayed me to buy from The Floor Store versus another company which I was about to go with. The estimate and cost was straightforward and she was able to work a discount for us. Scheduling and installation was very professional. Last week i was looking at carpets and stopped in the Floor Store to look around. We were greeted by Diamond, a lovely lady who listened carefully to what we were looking for. After getting a good idea she began showing us several styles and colors around the showroom. Diamond was quite honest in her presentation and didn't attempt to lead us away to other higher priced pieces. When we had decided on a piece as a possibility, she offered to show us the prices on such a piece along with measuring, taxes, discounts etc. We left feeling quite good about the encounter. The gent came and took measurements on time and left with a thank you. During our talks with each other we came to a decision that this was not the right time for us to make the purchase and decided to delay the install. We called Diamond and advised her of our decision who without any attempt to reconsider, began the processing our refund without delay. Even though this was not the right time for us (at this momentous ), we know without a doubt that the Floor Store on 9th Street in S.F. will be the store we return to when we are ready to buy our carpet. and Diamond will be the one we ask for. read more

The worse service ever. They took 5 weeks to get the material required to lay the tile. They finally came out to install the tile. The person was supposed to lay the tile around the bathroom sink. He removed the bathroom sink laid the tile and then said he cannot put the sink back. I had to pay $750 for a plumber to come out and install the sink. He remove the door to lay the tile, when he put the door back the door was rubbing on the tile. I knew the tile was the same thickness as the previous one because I measured it but they said that the tile they installed was thicker. Not so. They told me I had to call carpenter out to fix the door. I eventually went and bought a shaver with my wife's help remove the door, shaved bottom and hung the door back up. I will never work or refer this company to anybody again. read more

I am never going to recommend the PROJECT of replacing the carpet in your apartment - it's almost as much fun as moving - but if you discover the moths have been eating the old carpet, and they're beginning to turn their attention to your sweaters - you won't have a say in the matter. In that case just go to the Floor Store. Kristina will take care of everything. Her follow-up is perfection: just often enough (not ignoring; not bothering) All details were sorted. Everything on schedule. Then she sent installers who showed up on time, worked diligently all day long, asked if it was okay if they stayed a little late so they could finish the job - the install looks amazing.
