I was really excited when I saw they had a ton of gluten free stuff!!! I was not disappointed at all. The food was fresh, and super tasty. The lady who helped us was really friendly and noted that my food had to be gluten free. I watched how they were with everyone who walked through the doors, and they are very attentive and very friendly with each new face. They clearly have some return customers, because I heard them being referred to by their names and they asked how their families were doing. It is really good to know that there are places like this that still exist. I know some people may be turned off by the price of the sodas, and bottled water that they have, but if you really think about it their prices make sense. They only have those things there for people who come in to sit at a table, which does not happen often. They deal mostly in takeout and so they do not provide soda as a free refill thing. read more

Great things/ NEVER eat here again. The portions are very generous if you get what you ordered. The price is right if you are hungry for a lot of fried, and sometimes not thoroughly, fried flour. Service is great if you order ahead and have your last 4 digits of your phone number handy as many orders had been filled and were sitting by the cash register getting cold on the stainless steel counter while I waited. I wondered why they are not taking names? ( fictitious or otherwise...hint they already have your phone number and what you ordered), as they took 10+ orders as I waited for my "fresh order". This is not a long leap here plp. They do have a diverse menu and many selections. I ordered two C17 (Hunan beef with Shrimp. I wanted a pint only on both orders), I received 2 Sweat and sour chicken and maybe a shrimp or two in a quart container with wilted broccoli on the bottom of the container under the mass of fried / raw flour mess , I also ordered a #40 (Chicken/Pork Chow Mein/Chop Suey); They got the vegetables right, but they were all raw, (yes raw carrot, celery, onion, green pepper, but they forgot the mushrooms); and the sauce was a flour water mix to thicken a gravy or stew. No seasoning was added, not even salt or pepper. Meat? oh yeas there was supposed to be chicken and pork in that dish. For quick Chinese take-out this is the place to go. Really good chinese, they do gluten really well (they can tell you all ingredients and which dishes to avoid) and the owner is awesome. Oh and the portions for take out are huge!! I eat it for about 3 meals, no kidding. read more

I read the reviews here and decided this was THE Chinese place in town. The first time I tried the Shrimp Fried Rice, in part, because it is such standard fare. The Fried Rice here is the yellow colored rice ( the version that uses some kind of artificial coloring and adds no flavor.) I tend to prefer the darker soy fried rice that has loads of flavor. Yang chow rice is also good and Curry rice is another type, but The Fortune Cookie offers the cheapest, most flavorless variety. As for the 2nd visit, I ordered the Almond Chicken, all I can say is yikes, the sight of the small, candy-glazed, breaded morsels with very few peppered sesame seed sprinkled on top was gag-inducing. I later found they actually included broccoli, which was hidden at the bottom totaling about 5-6 pieces. The chicken was mushy, overly sweet and barely edible. On the other hand, my lady ordered the Kung Pao bean curd which looked decent. She said she thought it was pretty good, but I'm also sure she couldn't stand the sight of the almond chicken either. At this point, for me, it seems like a gamble on whether or not I should return to their menu of mixed blessings. read more

I have tried many different places in the area. The food that my family has ordered was quite bland. The Chicken with Broccoli did NOT taste fresh and the Sweet and Sour Chicken (for my kids) did not meet their standards. They took a few bites and would not finish the food. The only place to go for Chinese food on the Lakeshore! Especially the crab meat Rangoon's, they are to die for! We feed our family of 5, 4 guys and my wife for about $40 and we still have leftovers! I haven't met anyone that doesn't like it. read more

My husband and I picked up vegetarian food from The Fortune Cookie while on a little weekend trip. It was everything you could want from Chinese Take Out. I really liked the General Tso's Bean Curd. The fried rice was a tiny bit dry, but overall pretty good. read more
