If you aren't into those, there's a better restaurant for you elsewhere / nearby. The meals we ordered were pretty average- toast without butter offered and watery grits were the low points. It's no wonder this place had an hour wait to sit outside in the heat. I had the funky club with gluten free bread and it was the best sandwich I have had in a long time. My group of 5 all enjoyed their meals as well and our server was excellent. She brought us waters in to-go cups at the end, which was so nice, since it was crazy hot outside and we were heading off for a long day on the road. The hostess also directed us to a place to grab coffee while we waited and instead of sending us to Starbucks, suggested a local place kitty corner from Starbucks - Blends Coffee Bar. My family was on a road trip through the South recently, and stopped in for late breakfast at the Funky Brunch in Savannah. We were not disappointed! Great food and friendly service, and it was such fun flipping our pancakes right there on the table grill....very unique cafe! Bought a couple of their colorful mugs, but broke one when I got back home to Texas. I really wanted that orange mug, so I contacted the manager Deeann by phone. She was extremely accommodating and offered to send me another orange Funky Cafe mug, and she put it in the mail the very next day! Thanks, Deeann! It arrived quickly! Phenomenal breakfast place. This cafe has a cheap but filling breakfast menu. I one hundred percent recommend the "Make your own pancakes," as you literally make your own pancakes on a personal table-top grill. The coffee has free refills and the food is great. Just left the funky brunch and I must say I'm highly disappointed. After reading the awesome reviews online I had high hopes. Wait time was 30 minutes which is understandable for any business which is enforcing social distancing guidelines, which would be limiting the amount of patrons in the restaurant. That was not the case. The food is what disappointed me most. I ordered the salmon and capers and the salmon tasted as if it had been bathe in salt and dropped directly onto the plate. The salmon was not smoked and the hash browns didn't even compare to the Waffle House and that's saying a lot. I tried to return after taking a bite and was told they could not take it off my bill by the head waitress. I still tip the waitress Angela, she was great and offered excellent service but an overall disappointing experience. read more

You can't miss this brunch spot with its bright colors and I'm happy we saw it on one of our walks back to our Airbnb! We went the next morning and were not disappointed! Attentive service and everyone was very friendly. I ordered the hangover and my husband had the French toast. Both were so good and had decent portions. We also ordered a huge carafe of mimosas for $20 that was the perfect amount. They also have an outside eating area as well but we chose to eat inside because it was very cold outside. This was the best meal I had in Savannah! I absolutely loved The Funky Brunch. Breakfast IS my favorite meal, I could and would eat breakfast foods all day long so I actually looked this place up before we went on vacation. I thought, make your own pancakes? How fun! Even though I do cook my own at home lol, it was nice to have all of the options to add into the pancakes. I got strawberries and my husband, blueberries. I also got a side egg and hash-browns. Anywhere that has hash-browns for breakfast automatically goes up in my book. We had fun writing things with the batter and the pancakes also tasted really good. I'm really just a big kid at heart so when my friends said to pick a brunch place, I remembered the colorful Funky Brunch Cafe with hopscotch and cute benches outside. The wait was about 15-20 min (not bad for Sunday at 11:30). I was unfamiliar with the menu so we were seated at a normal table initially. But when I realized I could make my own pancake designs, the hostess very nicely moved us to a table with a griddle. OMG my inner seven year old came out when they brought me the 10 oz buttermilk pancake batter with banana and butterscotch chip add-ins. I designed a giant Jiggly Puff pancake (don't judge - that's my favorite Pokémon!) and had enough batter to make other silly designs. I also had some of the Roasted Sammy and hmm hmm the au jus sauce is on point! I can't believe I haven't been here until now, and I'll certainly be back to perfect my artistic skills on pancakes. read more

I would only recommend going for the experience. My cooking the pancakes on the griddle myself was quite a mess, as well as many other peoples I noticed. The overall process took super long to cook a singular pancake and batter was way too thin, the batter also stuck to the griddle no matter how much spray you used first. My friends steak was very tough and the grits were very "gritt-y". However, our waitress was very nice and the buiscuts were very good. read more

With hopscotch and umbrella tables in the waiting area, delicious food, and griddles in the middle of some tables to cook your own pancakes there was something for everyone. The service was pretty quick for being a Sunday morning and the food was delicious! I ordered the Funky Club Sandwich as it was A Funky Brunch specialty item and it was delicious. The sandwich was HUGE so I took half for the drive home. Filled with turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and slathered with bacon aioli and tasted just as good as it sounds. I also got the cucumber salad as my side and it was nice a fresh. Others at my table ordered the hangover, quiche, omelet, and some sort of scramble and everything looked and smelled amazing. A breakfast place should have the best coffee in town instead it tasted like Waffle House. Fake maple syrup, fake half and half. At least the butter and jelly were real. Oh no Funky. I once loved this place and always brought out of town guests in, but with new staff and a busy brunch rush, my opinion has changed. This time around I brought my family of 6 in before they had to head out of town. The wait was long, but we were troopers until it seemed like we would never sit down. The hostess mistook an honest question for attitude and instead of smiling and bearing through the rush, she retorted hotly that we knew the wait would be long. Okie dokie. We eventually did sit down, but I guess the tiff stayed with her for a while because I saw her gesturing my way and laughing with other staff. Lesson 1: hide your frustration around customers. You never know who is watching. Looks like I'll have to find another brunch spot for my out of towners. People look to me for recommendations all the time. An overall "meh" experience. My girlfriend and I were excited about this place purely based off of the name and the possibility of funky food. The wall decor is funky... however... the food is not exactly funky fresh. The place is very clean and we did like the look of it and the prices are not unreasonable. However, don't assume that sitting at a table with a griddle means that you get to griddle anything. We ordered pancakes thinking that we could chuck them on the griddle. But alas... they just brought us one "meh" pancake and the only thing that ended up getting griddled was a wandering spider. Poor little guy. Also... I am still waiting for my check. I was strolling down Broughton with my dog & found this cute breakfast/brunch place! The food was good (I can recommend the Farmer's Market omelette). There are water bowls at the outside seating for dogs & they even brought Hooch a treat! I never went inside so I can't comment on that but the food & outside tables were great. So, to me it is a great place if the ambience, the feel, the drinks, the decor is what you're most in for and not going to over-evaluate and scrutinize the food. The food to me was: meh. Though one can grill their own pancakes at your table, the grill needs to be waaayyy hotter to be effective. You wait for them cakes to cook forever and kids get antsy. If you looking for a different kind of breakfast or brunch, then this place is awesome and just what your looking for. The food was very good, whether you cooked it yourself or if the chef did. I would say this is more of a hipster cafe, with SCAD close by it makes sense, but i saw people of all ages including mine (Late late 40's). I had the make your own griddle along with Moms Best Breakfast which was great. However, the one complaint i have is it is not cheap. The make your own griddle (Pancakes) was $8 and the add ons had i gone that way were $3 each. For three people it was $65 which is without tip. A breakfast or brunch without a lot of drinking should not cost more than $40 bucks tops. read more

We had a great breakfast before heading back to Florida this morning. I changed the Traitor just a bit to make it gluten free took out the biscuit and had the poached eggs over the scrumptious hash browns. The hollandaise sauce was very tasty. My husband had the Upstream Miracle - the omelette was light, fluffy and the salmon was flavorful and tender served with a yummy biscuit. A great way to end our visit to Savannah, the service was EXCELLENT, everyone was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was well thought out from: decor to even in the restroom hardware.
