We ate brunch here with a party of 7 on 9/1/24 I will start off by saying our food was not terrible but also nothing exciting at all. Our server was also very nice once we got to our table. When we first arrived after our wait, and had received the text that our table was ready, we had the weirdest interaction I've ever had with a restaurant owner (Deanne). She told us that we did NOT in fact have a text from them and it was a different party with the same name. When I showed her my text from them she started acting very flustered and telling me that nothing was ready for us. I TOTALLY understand mistakes happen so I just asked if she could let us know how long we would have to wait at this point. (We had already waited 30 min which was our quoted time) I was standing about 2-3 feet away from her with a line of people behind me and she started to act completely unhinged and yelled "I need you to BACK UP NOW!" Totally confused, I scooted back the tiny amount that I could without touching other people and again she yelled for me to back up in such an aggressive tone that it made it seem like I had done something to her, when all I did was calmly and nicely ask a question and try to sort out our texts. It was such odd behavior and such a rude way to treat a customer. Everyone around us looked so shocked at her behavior that I was honestly embarrassed for her. The only reason we didn't leave was because we had a large party and had already waited for a while to eat. Once we sat down to eat, we were within eyesight of the same owner and could see her pointing and talking about us to other staff members and even mocking our hand movements as we conversed amongst ourselves. Honestly, the food could have been five star, and I would still never return to spend my money in a restaurant with such a rude owner. read more

Such a fun experience in Savannah! I have family visiting from Tennessee with their five teenagers and quickly found it's hard to please everyone. This place couldn't be more perfect for breakfast! Funky Brunch is not only a fun experience but everyone left with a full stomach. My husband and I did not take part in the "build your own" pancakes. I had the French toast and added strawberries. It was okay - nothing to write home about. He had an omelette and said it was just alright. I'd give the pancake experience a 5 star - more for the experience than the taste. While it doesn't look like much from the outside, inside there are wonders a plenty. First, you are greeted by a uniformly friendly staff and a cool decor worthy of the restaurant's name. Then if you want, you can be seated at a table with a giant griddle in the center at which you can make your own pancakes! You get a squeeze bottle of batter with whatever toppings you choose. We got whipped cream and strawberries. We also got an omelette served with loaded hash browns and a biscuit as well as eggs benedict. All for about $40! Everything was delicious and the service was warm and attentive all the way to the end. We will be back! read more

We called on Saturday morning and was told they did not take reservations and that there's a wait for a party of 9. We showed up and was told the wait was somewhere between 45 mins to an hour. My wife gave them the number to text when we were ready but we decided to go elsewhere. We did not receive a text until an hour and 15 minutes later. My wife and the group was pretty set on coming here so the next day our friend went up here while we were all getting ready and placed our group on the list. They said it was suppose to be a 45 minute wait but it turned out to be an hour. I ordered the Southern Steak Scramble and got to taste a bit of everything on the menu because we had such a large group and we shared food with each other because no one has Covid, maybe. Let's just say I have had much better breakfast with no wait. My meal lacked flavor and everything else I tasted was pretty bland. I did like the blueberry pancake though. We did not have the full "experience" since we had outside seating. Our waitress was mostly a miss. It could have been because they were so busy but she forgot to bring us drinks on several occasions. The restroom was a one at a time so there was also a wait there. I don't plan on coming back and if this group wants to do this again. I will have to find new friends. Side note - Most people are hanging out on the side of the building because that's where the shade it. It would have been nice if they placed benches or seating of some sort outside while people are waiting. Which seems like all the time. read more

This place looked like a cool place to eat and most mornings it is packed. We were awake before they opened so we decided to get there about the time it opened in hopes of snagging a table. It was Tuesday morning and we beat the crowds. We sat inside at a non-grill table. They have tables with a grill where you can cook your own pancakes and although the idea is cool I opted for them to do the cooking. Hash browns are my favorite breakfast food so I ordered the Hangover. The hangover is hash browns topped with bacon, cheese, and an egg smothered in gravy. I asked to leave the egg off. They were delicious. It came with a choice between toast, biscuit, or pancake. I choose a chocolate chip pancake. It was very good. The service was great and the food came out pretty fast. I can see how people will love the griddle tables, but I was much happier with the shorter wait to ditch the griddle and sit outside! The tables were spread out and we sat under the pergola in the shade. We got to the restaurant around 11AM and they said it would be 20/30 minutes. It was around 45 but they use a texting system so we took the opportunity to venture to the Owen-Thomas House which was like a block ish away! The service was good, everyone was kind, and the bathrooms were clean. The food was good, but nothing I am dying to order again to be honest. Don't get me wrong we ate every bite of our food! But if I am splurging on calories I love super creamy grits made with milk or cream, these needed some salt (and I don't often have to salt my food) and they seemed like they were made with water. Just not my ideal cup of grits! The shrimp on my grits was good again just nothing I can rave too much about. My boyfriend had the southwest scramble with steak eggs hash browns and other good stuff. He liked it and ate every bite but he also said it wasn't anything special. Maybe it is just me but when we eat out we tend to get things we don't make at home or are just out of this world. If you can get past the horrific hostess you may have an average time. We called ahead with a party of 12. They don't take reservations so we headed right over. The hostess told us it would be 40 minutes to eat inside so we opted to eat outside, assuming we'd be seated together. While we waited they have an uncovered patio with hopscotch the two kids were playing on... the hostess told us she needed to seat people in the tables on the patio so we needed to wait in the parking lot... umm what? Did she seat anyone there? No she sure didn't. But the 12 of us waited in the sun in the parking lot. While she helped zero others. They sat us at 3 different table and won't allow us to push them together. Okay fine but if we have to split up anyway can we go inside to the ac? One of our party had gone inside to use the restroom and there were plenty of open tables and servers working all sections. So we asked the hostess if we could move inside (we hadn't even sat down) She said no. When Sarah (a 5 star server) came to our table she said how are we doing? I laughed and said we are struggling, while fanning myself. She asked if we preferred to sit inside. To which we yes please, but we were told it's not an option. She happily sat us inside, we were moved out of her section but you better believe we tipped her for just being kind. The food was average but we were happy. Went here for brunch before we left Savannah. The food was delicious and made to order! I got eggs, hashbrowns, and gluten free toast- all of which were delicious. Service was also very friendly and efficient! Also- the mimosa carafe deal was great (I think it was like $21 for a carafe)!! The best advice I can give is "DO NOT ORDER A MIMOSA" not because it would not be excellent but because you do not need to damage the fresh squeezed orange juice like that. I 16 oz. glass is @ 5 bucks but is worth it at half again the price. The food, both times I have been there is very good. This time I have the omelet with sausage instead of bacon. The hash browns were cooked perfectly for me but if you like them crunchy you might need to request a little extra grill time. The pancake with the meal was on point, the only thing that would have made them better would be an actual short-stack. One pancake on a plate just does not seem right to me but the taste, devine!! The coffee is strong but smooth, a very excellent blend. Don't wait until you are famished to go because both times we were there the wait list was very long. We requested first available and sat at the bar. Our server / bartender was one of the best I have seen in a while. She was like a spinning top, never stopping. She made sure everyone that she was serving feel like they were to only ones at the high top. The parking is in the back in a pay lot so expect a $12 an hour cost. I knew my son would love this place, and my husband is a pancake fanatic (I'm a bread gal myself). Service was friendly and fast. The trick is to go early. We were there at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning and walked right in. When we left there was a bit of a wait, but not too bad. We choose a griddle table and ordered 1 order of pancake mix, an order of French toast, hash browns, and bacon, plus the cranberry mimosa. This was one of our top meals while in Savannah. Super Cool Restaurant!! This weekend in Savannah has been great. I had heard so much about this city and decided to see what it had to offer. On the list of places to visit was The Funky Brunch Cafe. It got rave reviews from many Yelpers so I decided to give it a try. At first glance, it's a very eclectic restaurant. We walked in and were placed on the waiting list. It wasn't long before we were called to be seated at the bar. It's truly a brunch spot that's open from 8-3pm every day. It offers customers a very unique dining experience with griddles built into the tables where you can make your own pancakes right at the tables. You can choose the type of batter i.e. buttermilk, gluten free, multi-grain and anything you want to add to it. They do have a lunch menu as well that offers fresh salads, sandwiches and soups. They make their orange juice fresh right there behind the bar so we ordered a carafe of mimosa. Now to the food ... when I say OMG Delicious! The Black & Blue Sea Grits was fantastic. They describe it as: "Some crustaceans and some grits got into a fight and now they are black and blue". Who know grits and blue cheese tasted so good together? Topped with bacon, blackened lobster and blue cheese sauce. The flavors will give your mouth an explosion of deliciousness!! Sooo good. I had the Swimming BLT which was also amazing. It's topped with smoked salmon and dill aioli. The bacon was crispy and delicious. This is definitely a place to visit when in Savannah!! It exceeded my expectations for sure. read more

Great little breakfast spot. I think they're really popular, even with locals, so the hostess was kinda salty (that's okay, we all have grumpy days, no big deal). The food was really pretty good, I'd say it's diner+ quality and selection. It was all really tasty and well prepared. The inside was clean, spacious, and as the name implies....funky. The waitress was great. The gluten free options were great too and my eating companions were happy with the food and didn't get sick. It was the best food they had on our trip to Savannah. The waitress was really knowledgeable too, she discouraged us from doing the cook-your-own-pancakes-at-the-table thing due to the potential for cross contact, even though they clean the griddles. This morning, we wanted to take our lovely mother out to her birthday brunch. After patiently waiting 15 minutes, sitting down in the outside seating area facing the customers.. the owner / manager asked us if we could turn around and not face the customers while they were eating. Confused as heck (because there was other people doing the same) we told her that we weren't bothering anyone. We weren't even looking at them. Two tables that were next to us even assured us we weren't bothering them and that it was totally fine. The manager of this place comes back with the menus and starts mumbling words while she served the same table that told us it was totally fine. She then proceeds to tell us to turn around, AGAIN. We told her it wasn't fair and why just us? She then asked for our names and said she wasn't going to sit us because we were "rude"?? After that, I of course pulled out my phone and started recording because at this point, I felt disrespected and discriminated. This was a racist act. We also expressed that to the owner and she said to get out of her face with that. After she noticed I was recording, she proceeded to go after my phone and try to snatch it. I'm still bamboozled and I truly apologize for the language used in this video but there is no reason why a human being should be treated the way she treated us. God bless her. read more
