First time here. My sister and I stopped by. You walk in, grab a menu and table number and sit wherever you would like. The have both indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the bar. We sat at the bar. The bartender Benny was great! He recommended the trash fries with brisket. Which we shared, they were very good. Plus we had the peach empanada with the homemade ice cream. Oh my. We got them on grub hub. The al pastor tacos were just the right amount of spicy because the pineapple adds the right sweetness. The beef empanadas were off the chain! I got the ranch dip which rivals the ranch for Gatti's! The brisket tacos were so good but there were some chunks of fat that they could have just removed because there was plenty of meat. The fatty melt was the bomb with the poblano peppers, pepper Jack cheese, and peppered bacon. The corn comes of the cob already so easy to eat! Over all a great place to eat. Let me start off by saying that we have ordered from The Git Out a few times before and have enjoyed it. However, we ordered to go food the other night and the delivery driver was given the wrong order. We chalked this up to the delivery service and the restaurant making a mistake. It can't be perfect every time I guess. We tried again this evening to order and finally received the food after two hours, another delivery service issue, however the portion sizes have shrunk by half. We payed $8.75 for Brussels sprouts that have always been in a normal size togo container, and we maybe received three tablespoons of brussel sprouts in a small container. We also ordered an order of waffle fries for $5.75 that normally come in a large togo container. And, you guessed it, it was equivalent to a small order of waffle fries from Chic-fil-A. It's a shame, we really like this place but will probably not be ordering here again. During this crisis we have tried to order from our favorite restaurants to keep them going, but when you expect something one way and get it another, it's hard to keep coming back. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. In 2019 I had the pleasure to speak personally with the owner and his wife. They were down to earth, kind people. I had the opportunity to discuss senior living (which is my profession) as well. I have continued to bring friends in over the last couple of years and Courtney and Benny have exceeded expectations every time. Several nights ago we tried the fried chicken and it was so tasty! Not greasy. Really spot on for fried chicken, esp with the corn. . Last night (it was our last night in town visiting) we were pumped to try the tacos al pastor...they sounded like they would be great. Unfortunately when we got our food to the hotel to eat, it was really dry, slightly burnt beef....not tacos al pastor. Not even close. Definitely nothing was marinated either. A really huge letdown after all the reviews and hype & a great meal sev nights before. It seems like a cool place and we could see ourselves being regulars if we lived in the area. Hoping the tacos al pastor were just a bad fluke that night. So you get 4 stars for effort and hopefully better next time we come read more

This experience was sub par. I went for my birthday dinner with some friends and wasn't greeted very warmly. We've never been here before and didn't know we didn't have servers. When we walked in the bartender yelled to grab menus and we couldn't really hear that we had to go to the bar and order. So after a while of looking around, the sweet food runner came up to let us know that we needed to order at the bar and brought out our food very quickly. My partner and I came in Friday evening for a drink and a bite. Nice ambiance- like a classy sports bar but with good music. We ordered the brisket tacos and the dry rub chicken wings. Both excellent! Chicken wings were perfectly juicy and seasoned just right. The cocktail menu is well rounded with bar favorites as well as a few surprises. The bartender (sorry- i forgot his name!) was very attentive, quick, and helpful regarding menu choices. We ended up also ordering the bread pudding with ice cream. SO good=food coma. Saw the good reviews on Yelp so we decided to check it out. First, I love the fact stuff is opening up for us South of the 71......sometimes you just don't want to deal with tourists or prices to the North. The Git Out is located between the 71 and Stassney on Congress, pretty much a wasteland for decent bars/eateries. The place itself is attractive with indoor and outdoor seating. As mentioned in previous reviews, all the ordering is done at the bar. You pick up your drinks there and your food is brought to the table. The staff was very friendly. They have an average beer list and a full bar. My wife's Diablo cocktail was ok, but was in a small Old Fashion glass filled to the rim with ice. For those not in the know...a shot of booze over ice will take up 2/3 of this size glass. Generally "Mule" drinks will come in a bigger glass so you can get more ginger beer in. This drink was over half tequila with a dash of creme we chassis and a splash of ginger beer. Anyway....take it up to a "Mule" cup or a highball glass and it would be a better drink. I would say the food is ok. It was priced decently, but $10 burgers don't come with fries...those are $2.50, so the combo is not that much cheaper than other places. We had epanadas that were decent, a side salad which was good and a Phatty Melt that was average and undercooked. I ordered medium and it was bleeding through the Texas Toast. A guy behind me was complaining about his food being dry. I think this place is on the right track. It is nice, but they just need to make some adjustments. South Austin definitely needs more places like The Git Out. We will be back, but for the neighborhood bar service establishments in the area, Benders still gets my vote....not fancy...maybe even divey, but good food, stiff drinks, a locked and loaded staff and a jukebox to top it off. read more

Just discovered this gem yesterday. I was craving wings and bbq. Ya don't always find those things together, but I did here. We had trash fries, Texas burger, phatty melt, mac n cheese with pastor, dinner n a movie with pork belly, 24 pack of wings chimichurri/buffalo, and apple empanadas. IT WAS ALL BOMB!! I was picking up my husband from AUS with our two dogs and I knew we were going to want to stop and eat on our way home so I searched Yelp for a place open late that allowed dogs and found The Git Out. When we arrived at 9:30 I could see that the patio was closed but decided to go in and ask anyway because you never know. The bartender confirmed that it was and I left. Not upset but not looking forward to looking for someplace else to go either. Well by the time I had returned to our car the bartender was coming after me to ask if we needed the patio for dogs and I confirmed we did. He immediately offered to set us up at a table, got the dogs set up with two bowls of ice water and treats while we took a look at the menu. We ordered the Blue Burger and the Phatty Melt with grilled onions along with the Trash Fry's. So good! Such a great bite of food. More than enough for both of us and we shared the brisket on the Fry's with the dogs. The patio was perfect for bringing them along and it was a wonderful night to sit out. I'm so happy they offered to open up a spot so we could sit back, relax, enjoy a superb bite of food with our dogs. Great experience and the bartender even thanked us for coming as we got back to the car. The worst customer service I've ever fucking had at any restaurant since I've moved to Texas BY FAR‼‼‼‼‼‼ I called and spoke to a gentleman who's name won't come to me for anything but that's not what's important the gentleman said I can call for a curbside order anytime before 10 so I said ok I'm going to look at the menu and call right back . Not even 5 min later I called and a lady picked up the phone and I said can I place a order for curbside pick up and she said we don't do curbside pick I said I literally just called and the gentleman said I can do a curbside order for pick up so she said I'm not gonna argue with u I said who's arguing I'm just telling you what a staff member said a few minutes ago and she hung up in my ear. I so enjoyed The Git Out! Sopped by on a Friday evening, not too packed. Drinks were tasty and the food was really good. I was very happy to find out that their "bar food" was not your average. Our party ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, Chili, Chicken Sandwich & a Burger. They were all very good. The Chicken Pot Pie was especially raved about and the fries were delicious. Not the best experience and not the worst. As you walk in, a guy behind the bar tells you where the menus are and sit where ever you like. No hello, welcome or greeting of any kind. He and somewhat of an arrogant demeaner about him. The food pics looked better than in person. Hamburgers were dry and lacked flavor and soda was flat. I expected a lot more after looking at the yelp reviews. If it had not been for the great conversation with my 2 sons, the visit would have been worse. I don't think I'll be back. read more
