The Grand Buffet at the GSR never disappoints! My husband and I love coming here because of the extremely friendly staff, the huge selection and always delicious food!! I am always impressed by the large selection of gluten-free options. They have gluten-free pasta, pho soup, and quite a few desserts. My husband loves the carving station and all of the high quality meats. We are both GSR rewards members so they send out dining discounts and BOGO buffets, which makes it more affordable. We have never had a bad meal at the Grand Buffet and the service is always exceptional so we will keep coming back! read more

UPDATE: Since I'm staying at the GSR, I returned for breakfast a couples days later & the server was a perfect gentleman. I'm pretty picky about what I'll choose to eat so I had an egg white omelette made and it was good. Because my breakfast experience went well, I chose to try dinner again. It was a little pricier because of the added crab legs and seafood dishes ($37.88 inc tax). Unfortunately, I was sat in Rey's section again. The first thing he said to me was, "What do you wanna drink?" AGAIN! As soon as he left the table, I went straight to management & requested a different server. When I said why, they knew exactly who I was because of my earlier review. One of the ladies told me it was because Rey is an uneducated Mexican. I took offense to that and informed her of my family and that is not the way we behave or an excuse. They changed my table/section to Ramon. I was told I'd be taken well care of and I have been. He periodically checks on me and makes sure my drink stays filled regardless of how busy he is or how fast he's making his way through the buffet. When he saw me having crab, he brought me the crab utensils. Whether we spoke in English or Spanish, he has been nothing but polite and attentive. The prime rib this evening is a completely different experience. I saw a more rare piece of meat that what I was about to be served, so I asked for it. The carver was polite and the meat is tender. I went to get a little shrimp pasta and the chef was joking around with me. I went to try a taco al pastor and the chef was incredibly polite- this is much more deserving of their price point. I'm only giving this place one star because the manager was super nice. First let me say that I've heard so much about this place. And after living in Reno for 3 years I decided to try it. First off, way over priced. The Peppermill had a better buffet. The food options were lack luster, I prefer my crab legs meaty and warm. They were skimp and cold and when I asked for my crab legs to be warmed up the server gave me attitude. The meat was not seasoned, the pasta was dry and old. The chocolate chip cookies were BURNT. Rookie mistake if you ask me. The best thing here was the beer, that I got for free. Avoid this place, don't waste your time. read more

Came here for the Thanksgiving buffet. It is in the resort itself, and easy access just off the gaming floor. There were 9 of us (7 adults and 2 young children) and it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to the cashier. And then, we were told that if we wanted to be seated together (what family at Thanksgiving wouldn't?!) it would be another 30 minutes!! Well, every one was hungry and tired of standing in line, so we argued for two adjacent booths. Strangely, there was an old guy in a suit running around, apparently in management. The cashier and a lady seating people asked if they could find us seating together but he said "no," either take the two tables or wait. Wow - what a crotchety old - well, you know. Such customer service on Thanksgiving and already the Grand Buffett is upsetting customers who are paying $40 EACH!! So, a few minutes later we were shown to our table and drink orders taken, while people started wandering and checking out the offerings. The buffet itself, both the dining areas and food stations, are nicely laid out and decorated - very attractive. The food is also attractive, but then you start finding out that looks are not everything! Some foods were very good, and our group agreed on their flavors and tastiness. The fried shrimp were good, crisp and tasty. The chile verde meat was good as well, very moist and tasty. The Smokehouse station in general had a good selection of meats, and the turkey was good as well with dark and light meat offered. Had a challenge finding the ham, but when we did it was good as well. Other side dishes like the two types of stuffing were tasty, and the pretzel rolls were a nice change, but needed a cheese sauce or brown mustard to go with them. The salad station was great, lots of choices of green and alternative salads, and toppings and dressings. I had this last, before dessert and enjoyed a large plate! The bacon chicken wrap was also delicious, as was the orange chicken. And the crab did not disappoint at all! On the flip side, there were dishes that looked good but disappointed. The seafood chow mien was dry and lacking seafood. The pita breads looked good, but the garlic one lacked any real garlic - too tasteless and there was only one Indian dish with curry, a chicken dish - needed a paneer dish with a mild curry as well for options. The potatoes au gratin with FIVE cheeses caught my attention right away, but the potatoes were undercooked and firm despite being thin, and the sauce was tasty but way too runny! None really stayed on the potatoes. The farfalle pasta with alfredo sauce had no taste in the sauce. The only non-Pho soup, a cheddar based soup, was horrible. Too thick and no flavor really, in spite of a cheese base. The desserts were also a mixed bag, depending on what you got. The sorbets were delightful and very flavorful. The eggnog cheesecake was dry and didn't have much eggnog flavor. There were small desserts that were delicious to look at, like the chocolate mousse cake, the white chocolate raspberry with gold balls, crème brule and the flan. The white chocolate raspberry and crème brule (which needed a crustier top) were good, but the cakes were generally dry and the flan was good but had an odd topping, like bread crumbs. There were cookies and rice Krispy treats and muffins and such, so none of us went away without dessert - we just had to find the good desserts among all the offerings! Service was good, with one gentleman constantly clearing dishes, and with a great attitude and personality, and the waitress bringing new beverages as needed. Overall, though, the food was below what I expected, especially for $40. I've had other casino buffets in Reno, and they were better for offerings and food quality, and a better experience with the initial paying and seating phase - I still wish I got that old guy's name; he just was the wrong face to have out front like that. The seafood buffet last weekend for $62.50/person was a ripoff. This buffet was not bad a few years ago but it has changed drastically. The quality of food served here has left a lot to be desired. You can tell when the items have a "quality" ingredient taste vs. a "cheap" ingredient taste. For $62.50 I expect some great seafood dishes. Not many to choose from and all made with low quality fish. Even the pizza sucked with little toppings and how do you mess up pizza? Too many fried foods and starches and not many baked foods. Awful! Food was cold, and I mean everything I ate was barely lukewarm. The worst buffet I've ever eaten at. Three adults and one child was $189 plus tip. I've paid more for a good buffet in Vegas so the price didn't bother me. However, food quality was subpar and not worth $10 per person. The only decent food was the salad bar and desserts. The prime rib was most likely a 'select grade, and there was an ammonia smell to the crab legs. Asian food was dried out and the Italian choices were all cold and old tasting. We arrived about 15 minutes after opening so food temperature and quality was truly unacceptable. Really gross. Will never eat there again, even for free. Our waitress was very friendly and did a great job. I'm sorry I canceled our Charlie Palmer reservation after surveying the buffet. It looked good, but tasted bad! Pretty nice all-you-can-eat buffet Located right inside the casino next to the slot machines on the casino floor, this place is crowded always! Usually there is a long line outside to wait, especially during dinner time rush hour. There is a lot of food--it just keeps coming and coming! Great for after a long day of exercise like ski'ing. There is seafood station, a station for pho noodle soup, a station for grilled meat like beef and salmon, and a station for soul food like mashed potatoes and fried chicken. There is also a station for fruit, which is not the most popular. And of course there is a station for desserts, which is super popular--the kids always grab several arms-full of the cans of cotton candy! There is also gelato and every kind of cake and tarts you can imagine. Insane! In terms of food quality, the taste is pretty much what you'd expect. Nothing crazy good or bad. Just a lot of food. The service is pretty nice. The folks who work there are super busy because they get a lot of requests for everything, from utensils and plates to drinks etc. Basically the more people eat quickly, they more you have to tend to them. Even then the waiters are all very nice and accommodate to every request. We even got there really late, around 30 min before closing time, and they still let us in and the waiter tended to us, even though we were the only table left eating during closing time. The only bad thing about this place is that the washroom is located outside the actual restaurant, about a block away on the casino floor. If you get your hands dirty eating crab legs, well, you will have to run! I imagine this happens a LOT everyday. But not much they can do about it unless they can add a washroom somehow. Absolutely diabolical!! Just arrived - 7/31/2021 - to the worst experience we've ever had! $71 + tip for 3 scrambled eggs, bacon, 2 diet cokes and a water!! Hardly any stations open and what was open had trays empty or minimum available. Only ham and turkey available on the meat station. No salad and a big queue for pho! We should've been told when paying that most of the stations were closed! Only donuts and ice cream available for dessert! GSR you have lost a loyal customer today! Disgusted!! For most buffets, don't expect much. The Grand Buffet is no exception. For the positives, there is a ton of selection. For example, you have a dessert section, a seafood section, a salad bar, a smoke house section, etc. Additionally, the service is pretty fast and efficient. However, the quality isn't exactly top notch. In fact, one of my friends, who trained to be a restaurant manager, noted that the food was on par with cafeteria heat-and-serve food. This would be completely okay for a buffet that charges a more reasonable price. However, the quality here does not justify a price of over $30 per person. Don't get me wrong; this place isn't terrible. I've been to much worse buffets. It's just that your money could be better spent at a different restaurant. read more

Oh man, what a disappointment! Visiting the Grand Buffet was the first time I've visited since Covid due to the soaring price of Reno buffets. I get that buffets are mostly quite different than pre-Covid, but the Buffet's price is now $69 for a supposed "crab buffet" that rivals pricing of the Vegas buffets. It is not worth $29 and no where near the quality of the similarly priced Vegas buffets nor even the Atlantis' Toucan Charlie. The crab was decent, but the rest of the food (Mediterranean grill, Pho Station, carving stations, seafood) were very poor. And I frequent a lot of buffets with adjusted expectations, but this was bad. Other than crab and and poor quality shrimp cocktail, there were no scallops or "jumbo" shrimps as promised. The prime rib was a "2". I didn't bother with some of the cooking stations' made to order dishes: each one had a tip jar for the Pho, Mediterranean Grill, Carving, and...even the front entrance cashiers! GSR should price the buffet according to its value...and $69 ain't it. That said, the hotel and casino has mostly been very good and is the go-to hotel for us in Reno (although the EV charging stations near the front of the hotel are no longer free unlike other Reno hotels that are). read more

Buffets are not usually my go-to or preferred first choice, but when I travel with my parents it's expected that we hit up more than one buffet in one day. With this said, The Grand Buffet was our lunchtime destination today... If you ever come out to Reno, and are craving multiple different dishes then this is the buffet for you! I absolutely LOVE how every section is organized and labeled. They have a specific area for Mediterranean and Italian. They have a special section where you can build your own Pho soup. They have an omelette building section. They have a fresh salad bar, dub'd Fresh- where you can also find cold salads like macaroni salad. For the main course they have a carving section where they served, bomb a$$ prime rib and roast beef, plus sweet ham, all SO good! I was beyond surprised at the huge selection of different food that they offered! Better yet, the quality of food was even more surprising. The food was actually REALLY, really tasty! If we ever return for another visit to Reno, I will be back to eat at this buffet because it's good and the selection is on point! read more

I feel sorry for this buffet because before covid, it was a pretty decent buffet w decent pricing. Now it's a subpar buffet w horrible pricing. Went on 1/15 around 2pm. They had what was a seafood buffet for $50 a person. Trust me, this was no seafood buffet, at least nothing you should pay 50 bucks for. No lobster. Crab legs were Jonah crab legs and didn't look great. No fish except for tilapia. Most of the food looked pretty old. Even their bbq station which used to have great brisket is now just not good. Tried some of the ribs and wow, it was nothing what it should be. Meat stuck to the bone. Looked like it'd been there a while, not hot. The guy at the pho station forgot to put pho in my PHO It's just a bad experience foodwise. Maybe for $20 it might be ok, but I wouldn't even pay $20 for that food. Husband and I haven't been here in a while. Stopped by and they have their seafood buffet $50/person. They have crab legs, oyster, mussels mixed with rice and shrimp, shrimp, fried shrimp and fried tilapia. Not much else to choose from considering to be seafood. The rest is their normal food. The shrimp was almost cold, nothing special about the crab legs and no other fish selection other than fried tilapia. Shrimp in Alfredo sauce nothing special. Even their pot stickers were meh. The place is clean and there are a lot of different food choices to choose from. The salad bar had what looked to be fresh veggies and several different salad choices. The pasta bar, was my favorite experience, had a few pasta choices, and sauces to choose from. There were several items that can be added to the dish. I enjoy watching the young man cook the food in front of me. Lots of desert options to choose from as well. Again, nothing really stood out as good or bad. I'm not a big fan of buffets, especially during Labor Day weekend...where it's crowded everywhere in Reno and during the same time of the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off. We were about to dine at the cafe, until we noticed some nice looking pictures on this website called Yelp. And then we discovered a 20% Military discount offered to ...pretty much anyone. With the discount, we'd probably spend the same amount as we would at the cafe...just with more food options and on repeat. So we decided to indulge and possibly blow up thanks to Ribfest. YOLO, right?!! Highlights for me were their Pho station, Tandoori station, and gelato/dessert station. Tandoori chicken - get the skewers fresh when they come out. Pho - freshly made with your own creativity. Mine was extra cilantro and wontons. Gelato - a good selection of flavors. Their doughnut maker intrigued me with the powdered ones and chocolate dipped ones. Even better with strawberry toppings (aka...deep fried strawberry shortcake). Honorable mention goes to their brisket and the steak & egg skillet. Also, their Mimosas (Sunday brunch) were mixed perfectly with more champagne and less orange juice. Customer service was stellar throughout the whole FEW hours we were there. Our server kept an eye on us, making sure our dirty plates were out of the way and drinks were filled... even though there's a self-serve drink station with over ten soft drink options. I'm becoming like my parents use to be eating buffets at casinos. For the record, I'm not much of a gambler and would rather spend a weekend elsewhere than in a casino. I might play some poker here and there and sit on a blackjack table, but I just simply cannot stand the stench of cigarette hovering in the air and getting a permanent "perfume" all over my clothes. Wifey, on the other hand, she loves sitting on those slot machines and she can play all night. I kid you not. Being a married man, I have learned my lesson that you better keep the Wifey happy just to keep your sanity. I think I speak for all men when I say this. However, those slot machines may reciprocate by giving her a thousand or two, and maybe more than her winnings before. You take the good with the bad and one of the many benefits of her constant pushing of buttons that produces blinking of colorful lights and sounds, that I believe has a hypnotic effect, is that she earns reward points for either free rooms or free food. Technically it's not free if you equate how much she spends, but she has to feed her chauffeur somehow. Grand Sierra has the Grand Buffet and the first time we ate here, it was pretty good....but not so grand. I mean, it was OK and they had the usual prime rib, salad bar, pasta, pan-Asian-fusion confusion, crab legs, oysters and the rest of the carb and protein family you can think of so you can stuff yourself silly and waddle out like a duck regretting while you had one last plate of ridiculousness. The next time we were here was doing their major renovation, so it was a bit awkward eating here at that time. Then the newly renovated version finally opened, but the quality of the food seemed to have suffered. OK....the layout, color palette, dining table and chairs were an improvement. I even like the fabric of the upholstery seat covers. It had layers of different colors of floral and shrubbery design that I found fascinating. Sadly, I think that was the highlight of this place. As for the food, I didn't see any crab legs or oysters so you go to the carving station and pick your cuts of meat, which were all dry and bland. If your cut was neither, then it was too fatty or too hard. The seafood station only consisted of shrimp that are boiled in their shell. I didn't touch their pizzas since they didn't look too appealing. The rice and pasta were just oh oh so lacking in execution and flavor. Rice were all clumpy and the pasta were just carb fillers. They even had fancy plates (copied from Vegas obviously) of different dishes served in cast iron bowls and pans that were either salty, soggy, saucy, gloopy and dry from being so overheated seating underneath those heat lamps. And there was nothing special about the dessert. The gelato is just uberly sweet that I could only take one lick and immediately stopped as if a heterosexual realized he's performing a fellatio on a "popsicle stick" and had a gag reflex. I know it sounds harsh, but I think the only saving grace is the service. Albeit slow, they are nice and do the best they can on a busy shift serving hundreds of people. They will get to you eventually and give you everything you requested. This is the only consistent thing about this place. However, do check your mugs and utensils as some of them might still have gunk stuck in places you down't want your mouth touching. Not to knock this place, but you gotta up your game. Buffets done right are excellent and the competition is stiff. It's not just the amount of food you can offer to overindulge like the American way, but you gotta have quality all the same. read more

The restaurant is completely remodeled! The refreshed newly remodeled restaurant is bright, roomy, comfy with food station that is nicely arranged with great lighting. Gone is the old dark carpet, dated lighting, poor seats and the meh food station from its Elements day! yay! Food is good for a buffet. The quality of the food has gotten a lot better and so has the service since the remodel! We dined at 8:45 and only had to wait 10 mins to be seated. All food stations had great chefs behind the station to serve and assist as needed. Here's my review: - The prime rib was OK though a bit dry. - Be sure to try out their specialty salts and sprinkle lightly on your prime rib to bring out the taste. - Turkey is moist and flavorful. - Soups are very good (clam chowder, tortilla soup) - Shrimp cocktail is ok. Shrimps lacks the 'crunch' thus not the freshest. - The noodle station is good (maybe I'm craving something lighter after the prime rib!)... I got the rice noodles with snow peas, spinach, wonton and cilantro. It was very good. - Italian pasta is very good; cooked fresh with great flavors - Plenty of vegetable options: blanched, stir fry, grilled, salad bar. Note: didn't like the corn - it looked great but was flavorless being soaked in the water for so long. I am so thankful that The Grand Buffet does Brunch on Sundays, it is the most normal feeling part of my week. You must make reservations it's quite easy to do online , once you arrive the service is perfect , the food is scrumptious and the Mimosas are a tad on the strong side so be ready to roll out of there when your finally done . The selection of food is excellent , the Crab is perfectly prepared chilled or warm , once you get cracking, you may not want to stop, that's okay they encourage fullness here. I'm not a big buffet person, but this was in our hotel, and friends had a BOGO deal or discounts with their platinum or legend status, so couldn't complain that for $12 I had a decent buffet experience. They have several stations, and the food was mediocre at all of them. They have a build your own pho bar which everyone loved, and to me, the broth and wontons were good, but the noodles were god awful. Surprisingly they had good kimchi and it went with the pho well. I had several slices of wood fired pizza, it reminded me of young school days, so not great, but nostalgic eating it. I liked the build your own nachos bar, not that it was anything great, but the fact that they had one. The oysters looked horrible, so I saved myself from getting food poisoning. Waitress was attentive with refills and providing napkins. The bussers come constantly, but I saw them spill pho soup all over my friend's chair and as she walked away, I asked her to clean it. It isn't Vegas, but for $30 per person one can consume enough of the good stuff including the bottomless mimosas. The dining room isn't fancy- much like your local diner, but what do you expect at this pricepoint? My bf suggested we do brunch here after one of our all-day hikes. We would unleash our ravenous appetites the next morning only to burn off the overconsumption of calories on another 6 mile hike through the mountains. I did my research prior to arrival and was absolutely delighted to learn they have a pho station here!! The many choices made my heart go pitter patter, and I created my own concoction! I chose chicken broth over beef. When asked what I wanted in it, I made his job easy and said, "Everything!" Prawns, chicken, pork and beef swimming with rice noodles, julienned carrots, cilantro, onions, bean sprouts and my added addition of numerous jalapenos was the ultimate pho. I grabbed my chopsticks and bowl of hearty goodness with Chinese soup spoon immersed and beelined it back to the table. My boo brought a plate of prime rib, scrambled eggs, pineapple and bacon. Of course, I had to do some quality control. The prime rib was delicious and actually my bf's favorite. (Clearly, mine was the pho.) He threw some tender morsels in my pho. Excellent! The pineapple was the perfect amount of sweet and still had crunch. Bacon is always good. The eggs were "meh" and more on the moist side. On my second trip, I visited the Italian station and indugled in red sauce rigatoni, a combo pizza slice, shrimp cocktail and crab legs. I definitely got my pasta fix which was just your average creamy red sauce. My tiny pizza slice was great, I could have gone back for more if it weren't for vanity's sake. The crab legs were a waste of my time - thin, dry and pretty tasteless. My third trip involved another load of cold shrimp. -just a little lemon made these bottom feeders simply tasty! Some pineapple made it on with some tangy pickled, crinkle cut beets. The bacon and green beans were perfectly cooked and a favorite. I wish I had more room! I'm not much of a dessert girl, but they had a good variety of delectable tiny dessert pies, pudding, cookies and even a full on ice cream station. My man liked his pecan pie just fine. Enjoyed this buffet yet again!! Again the pho was my favorite. Love all the fresh ingredients to choose from, this time added shrimp! There is a carving station for the meat lovers. The dessert bar is endless and there is definitely something for everyone. Chocolate lava cake was delicious. I look forward to trying the seafood buffet on Friday and Saturday next time!! read more

Probably one of the best casino buffets I've been to outside of Vegas. Their selection includes typical Asian, American, and Italian style dishes, but also ventures into some interesting additions such as a Pho bar. All of the food feels fresh, and to my surprised, the prime rib and brisket was all tasty and tender. Sadly, some of the dishes came incomplete. This Buffet is a joke. They take your money and then tell you that you have 90 Minutes to eat at an all you can eat buffet. They have no signs. Post it they said it is at the bottom of the receipt after you have paid your money. It cost us a total of $97.00 to eat at an all you can eat buffet and they tell you how long you can eat.
