This buffet is slightly better than average so I am shocked that there was so many low stars. I have been to some bad ones and this can't compare. It had been a few years since I had been mostly because of the bad reviews and timing. This time I got a B1/G1 coupon from my players card and decided to try it on a very hangry day. Came for brunch on a Monday. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection. There was a little bit of everything. I liked most things enough. Really liked the soup bar where you can get Pho or wonton soup. The dessert bar is vast but found that the cakes were very dry. Liked the creme brulee though. The wait staff is attentive in cleaning our plates and getting drink refills but that is how they get their tips. We had a nice meal here and it hit the spot. I think someone can find at least a few things to satisfy. Will agree that some things were not so good like the fried shrimp. I know that buffets aren't always the best to begin with, but there wasn't much here that I was able to find palatable. Things were either over-salted, or oil soaked fried foods, overcooked, or unevenly cooked. Just a few examples: The stuffed peppers had decent flavor, but the meat inside was gummy (over processed/mixed) and too salty to finish it. The Prime Rib was dry and over cooked. The fried shrimp and sauerbraten (both fried items) were so oil soaked that while the outside was pretty crunchy still, the shrimp was almost a mushy texture inside, and the sauerbraten was the same, except the inside was almost opaque from so much oil. The sliced Turkey was a bit of a concerning color, the edges were pink and the middle was a bit of an off-putting yellow. I had a slice of cheesecake and pumpkin pie, and they were okay, but nothing to write home about. read more

Came here for the first time with family last weekend and the food was not great. It's super pricy. They had their special menu celebrating the year of the tiger and kids 10+ are considered as an adult about $60 a person. The service was disappointing. It took a while for the sever to come and clear our table. We had plates stacking up and would literally have to wave him down. The crispy pig they advertised for their special menu was not crispy at all. Looks more a smoke pig (didn't get picture of it) and it did not taste that good. Options are not bad for the price that you are paying. You have your typical salad, pizza, pasta, briskets, prime rib, bbq ribs, ham, shrimp cocktail, Mexican, Asian, and many more. If you can't find something suitable for you, then just drink water! The dessert section was insane! Well worth it! The value and service was great. I am going to four stars because the prime rib was great, the desserts really good for a buffet, and the service was notable. The hot chocolate cake next to the bread pudding was the best. I was totally caught by surprise on this as I didn't see this anywhere in any reviews or the grand sierra website and was very defensive to my family saying I didn't know about it. My mom is used to tipping to the service person directly and I had to explain that it was already included, and she was just all confused and annoyed saying 'that's not right'. Highlights: omelete station had shrimp which I hardly see at other breakfast/brunch buffets. They have a taco station, meat section, Pho station, salad station, Indian/Mediterranean section and a Chinese section. My favorite was the sweet potato tater tots, fried chicken and the chicken kababs. The kababs were so tender. I highly recommend them. Dessert section was huge. They have two rows of desserts and a gelato section. Everything I tried was good. I recommend Hazelnut gelato. The only down side was the service. Another 5 ***** experience at the Grandest buffet in town. Exceptional service. The one that got our drinks and took our plates - Marya (wrong spelling) but she's a regular server, is the best. Pho person (she's been there a while too) couldn't be better. Friendly and sweet and makes a darn good bowl of Pho. Prime rib, salmon pleased my wife. I wish there would've been Duck but tacos always good (small teaspoons of meat) but not a big deal with all you can eat. Comfortable booths and overall the best buffet in town. I asked if I my family count sit near the vicinity of friends who were also there and she emotionally reacted demanding if we sit at the same table she needs to charge me 18%. I said we didn't need the same table just nearby and I didn't want my elderly company who were 78 and 80 to have to walk far and Maria insisted we wanted same table. Greatly enjoyed our experience at the Grand Buffet for a table of 10, many of which were kids. The staff were very professional and friendly - remaining attentive for the entirety of our meal. There was ample food selection for the price, and the meats were cooked well. The dessert station sufficed with gelato being the main hit. We came in around 7pm on a Sunday and was first in line, though there was a good amount of people that arrived shortly after us. The area was kept clean. Overall this is a good buffet that we have been to several times in the past. I received an email from GSR notifying me they were honoring veterans with a free buffet on Monday, November 12th so we decided to check it out but anticipated it would be busy. We intended on getting there about 30 minutes before it opened at 10am but we were running a bit slow this morning and didn't get there until 10 and the line was quite long. It appeared many other veterans and their families were there as well. We took a place in line and talked to some nice people - a GSR employee even came by with waters and offered them to those of us in line. We made it to the front of the line in about 30 minutes and were tickled to find out that in addition to the one free meal, the second meal in our party was discounted 20% as a military discount. We had never realized that GSR did that! We were quickly seated and we filled our plates. The food is good and there is a nice selection. Thank you GSR - we will be back again very soon! It is our experience that other businesses will state they are offering benefits to veterans when in fact they only recognize active and retired folks. Was staying here for the weekend, and wanted to give The Grand Buffet dinner a shot. Saturday 1/11/2025 got here around 5 PM. With about 20 people ahead of us in line it took about 50 minutes or so to get to us (I believe if you can get here around 4 pm there is no wait time). Price was more expensive that day @ $79 per person because they allegedly had "LOBSTERS". We were seated, and off to the food we go. I went straight for the Lobster, only to find out there was none! I asked the cooks if they were bringing out any lobster, and was told that they only had a soup with lobster meat in it. This was extremely disappointing. There is a variety of other food such as Mexican, Chinese, Italian, salad bar, etc. Overall the food was all about 4 out of 10. Nothing worth raving about. Lighting was good here, and is very clean. The gentleman who was working our table was very attentive to us I would give him a 10/10. If I was to ever come back to Reno, I would definitely not eat here again! read more

This is the first buffet I have after the pandemic. I don't expect too much. It is mainly to satisfy the feeling of me and my friends for the buffets we missed! We are there on the very busy Labor Day weekend of the Rib Fest 2020 for $39 per person. The best they did is social distancing. The buffet line in front of the buffet is for registration only. They will text you when your table is ready. We are there not long after they open and the wait time is less than 20 minutes. The Grand Buffet opens only half of the tables inside even they have a long waiting list and many customers standing in the line wait for the registration. All the workers and customers required face masks when they are leaving their table. The foods are below the average of the casino buffets, especially the BBQ items. This is a big disappointment because the selling point is "2020 Rib Fest". But the ribs and all the BBQ items are not good at all! Come to our surprise the best in the Grand Buffet is the Pho. It is better than most of the pho restaurants. But I feel sorry for the only lady who works in the pho station! She is the busiest worker in the whole buffet! read more

Okay well I want to start off saying the service was good, brought us drinks really fast and was quick to get rid of our plates. The food on the other hand... definitely not $96 worth. Complete waste of money, if you want mid tasting food that will leave you feeling sick after go ahead. The crab was not good, and the claims and oysters did not taste what so ever fresh, I expect to have a fresh tasting crab, oysters, and claims for 96 dollars worth. The raviolis were cold in the middle and the only good tasting food was the mashed potatoes and turkey gravy with the pulled pork... I could get that at the grocery store for 20-30 dollars. Extremely disappointing... the dessert I was hoping would be good after the mid tasting food... well what a disappointment the dessert tasted like crap, it was warm and not even sweet tasting, all had this bitter taste and the Banana cream pie cake tasted like the frozen pie you can get from the grocery store. What a cool spot! I had heard such great things about the GSR buffet and I'm so glad I got to try it. Brunch was 36.99 per person, which isn't a bad deal if you're hungry lol. There are tons of options to choose from, and it's all very clean - the employees will hand you the food to ensure everything is clean and sterile. I personally loved the crab, shrimp, the omelets, and especially the prime rib! For brunch they also have mimosas available. The coffee was good too! Desserts are available too. I wasn't a fan of the creme brûlée, but the cheesecake was absolutely phenomenal! I had two slices lol. They have tons of options available for everyone, I think this is a great place to come if you're hungry and want some options on what you'd like to eat. It can be slow getting in but once you are, what a treat! Crab legs, make your own pasta, make your own pho, and prime rib await you along with a loooong counter dedicated just for dessert! The price is right and although the initial hosts weren't super welcoming, the server at our table was incredibly kind and friendly, even though she was juggling our entire area by herself. We went to this buffet on thanksgiving morning.....the turkey was a bit dry, and the traditional thanksgiving dishes were a bit bland. So..... why the 5 stars? The employee who was serving the crab legs was so amazingly friendly and created an atmosphere that we (all 9 at our table) were so happy to see someone who truly loves his job.... We will remember him for the rest of our lives..... we offered him a cash tip when we were leaving and he declined to take it. I really wish I took time to catch his name, but I didn't. We were in Reno and wanted to try a good buffet. Unlike Las Vegas where buffets are a staple in every casino that's not the case in Reno. After much googling and asking around we stopped by the Grand Buffet. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and food. And such an amazing service. Tony our server kept filling the mimosa with a smile and told great jokes that just kept us engaged and entertained. We were there for a long time, till he transferred the baton to Rose. We talked about the mimosas and she asked us if we had them with a bit of cranberry juice she even made one for us to try. They were amazing and completely changed the way we had been having the mimosas. The station we spent the most time on was the omelet station and Chef Edward makes the best omelets hands down. My companion on the trip comes from the hospitality industry so the two of them bonded on mutual war stories from the kitchen. My friend spent a good deal of time doing omelet duty so her standards are really high for a good omelet. She was so happy with what Chef Edward created. The omelet was amazing, he is like a magician with the pans and the eggs. Some folks on our team had some strict dietary restrictions. The pizza chef went over and beyond in creating custom pizza to accommodate us. She very patiently and intently listened to all our demands and requirements and kept coming back to make sure she was getting it right. And after the pizza was served she came back to ensure that it was up to our needs and that we were happy with it. I have eaten at several casino buffets but I have never had such personalized service ever. I am blown away by such a wonderful staff and service. read more

My partner Eric is an athlete and needs to consume two to three times as much food each day as I do. So we made a trip to Reno largely to enjoy all-you-can-eat buffets. We had a great experience eating brunch at The Grand Buffet. At first we were hesitant because of the negative reviews. But, we are people who tend to see the positive in everything, so we went in with a good attitude and we were not disappointed. So many different foods to choose from! Plenty of them were mediocre. So, just leave those things aside and go get something delicious! What I most enjoyed: tender biscuits with butter, piles of bacon, tall glasses of orange juice, fresh blueberries and milk, and soft tacos with pork, pico de gallo, sour cream, and salsa. I had a made-to-order pancake with blueberries, but it was a little dry. The crab was tasty, but the crabs were small so it took a lot of work to get the meat out. The pho, sadly, was the most mediocre pho I'd ever had: the meat was overcooked and the broth was weak. Oh well! Eric enjoyed the prime rib, waffles with fruit compote topping, bacon, sausage, Mexican rice and beans, cream of wheat, fresh fruit, cole slaw, cucumber salad, and ice cream for dessert. If you're looking for top quality food, go somewhere else. If you enjoy variety, have a healthy appetite, like to sit around for 2+ hours eating, and can roll with it when some dishes are only so-so, then you'll have fun here. After our brunch, we did a 10-mile hike on the nearby Jones and Whites Trail. Our stomachs were still full at the end of the hike! read more

The Grand Buffet is pretty "on-par" with the majority of buffets that I've been to. Going to a buffet is like going on vacation... the most exciting part is the time leading up to it. It just sounds so exciting! Once you're there you start to think "hmm, this could have been better..", or, "this wasn't what I thought it was going to be like". To be fair, The Grand Buffet has a few major perks. The service is high quality, and the food is diverse for dietary restrictions. We went for Sunday brunch with unlimited mimosas and our glasses were never empty. We went to refill our plates to come back to the table with a full cocktail every time. Major kudos! As for dietary restrictions, they have quite a few vegan options that are relatively well-labeled, as well as plenty of vegetarian options that are easier to spot out. In addition, The "Pacific Rim" area is a create-your-own pho option where a dietary-conscious person can get creative and not feel limited. Unfortunately, but not to my surprise, the food quality was just about average. Nothing spectacular. For example, the veggies in my vegan curry were not cooked evenly. Some were cooked to be very soft, and some were incredibly tough or underdone. But... the silver lining... What a fantastic dessert section! You could get lost in the sweets, if that is your vice. They have a pho bar like most other Reno buffets - they're broth was really good. I have been to the buffet several times before and after the renovation and I like it the same.
