Went on a Saturday evening for my daughter's 17th birthday & it was a great night. Service was amazing from the time we walked in until the time we left. "Shy" was an excellent server. The food was great. It was 13 of us so we had a variety of things but everything was good. There was live music which made it kinda loud but that's expected anytime there is live music. I came here for brunch with girlfriends and from start to finish the service and food were poor. The reasoning they said was due to only two cooks in the kitchen but the food was cold and our server was nonchalant and indifferent about the service we were receiving. We ordered mimosa buckets and flights and were not given any of the proper dish ware for the buckets; no bucket, not glasses no decanters. We had to ask for everything we needed except silverware. When we asked to speak to the manager he came out and was giving excuses and not trying to do service recovery to the tables and guests. When he asked us what he could do to better our experience we suggest comp champagne bottle or mimosas and his response was "I don't know about that". They have definitely decreased in service. So this place has a really cool vibe and has a lot of potential. Unfortunately it didn't make it far past that. We showed up and let them know we heard about it from our hotel and didn't know how it worked. We wanted to eat and bowl. No problem... takes us to lane gets drink order and it was all down hill from there. She took forever to take our drink order, bring our drinks, and we were lucky to get a refill. She didn't come back after the food was dropped off until time was up. Wait... what? The clock for 1 hour of bowling ($60) started the moment we were seated. Who knew all the lack of service time was included in my hour. Also the food was just okay. Me, my wife and 2 kids. All meals were $20-25 and the bill without gratuity was $178 with bowling. So after tip I dropped $200 for 1 hour plus $15 for parking. If the service wasn't so horrible I wouldn't have really cared. read more

I don't usually write a review based mostly on service, but The Grand's service deserves it. My companion and I waited a bit for someone to take our order but it was worth the wait. I hike waiting I had a mojito. Nothing special but good. I ordered the pork chops on the advice of our waiter who described them and their accompaniments in such luscious detail I couldn't wait to get my meal. My companion did the same. First the accompaniments: collards, a corn muffin, and mashed potatoes. Collards we're good and a bit spicy. Mashed potatoes unspectacular and corn muffin really dense and delicious. We also ordered cheddar cheese biscuits which didn't come before the meal and had to be asked for. Worth it! But let me speak of the pork chop. Thinly cut, perfect grill marks then brushed with sauce and finished. It was delectable bite after bite. Just as he said it would be. On point recommendation! We asked about dessert and he described the downstairs dessert bar but we weren't interested. So he said he'd check on the cakes (Home baked) in the kitchen. Well... here's the above and beyond part. He came back with pictures on his phone of each one!! Pie, cheesecake, oreo cake, etc. if you told me our waiter was the chef clowning and in disguise I'd totally believe it. Pretty cool joint with some history...but a bar being tended by a guy (we'll call him Pat), who can't tell you which beers are on tap because he "doesn't drink anymore". Even asking for a Porter or stout pretty much draws a blank stare. Okay - how about a Blue Moon. Oops. Tapped out. Okay, dude. Guinness? Yes! Score! On the bright side - I had the shrimp and grits and they were on point! Super creamy gravy, shrimp well cooked. Lots of flavor with grilled corn and ham in the Adluh (natch!) grits. The Grand was such a great experience! I first visited during a food tour and was impressed by the space and activities, including bowling, dining, lounge, tap room, and more! They served great food and drinks. We sampled some sandwiches (I cannot recall which ones, but they were all yummy) and dessert was great. The margaritas were tasty and just sour enough. This place is awesome and has so many activities and great food. I'd love to come back and visit the tap room! read more

We made a reservation for 10 on a Friday night because it has been our go to place at our granddaughter's school. We were looking forward to showing our family what we felt was a great experience in Columbia. Quite possibly this was the worst service we had ever encountered in the 55 years we have been going out to dinner. We waited two hours for any food after having our orders taken almost right away. Drink orders took almost an hour. We had a young child with us who never got his food order. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. After letting the manager know several times that no food was forthcoming we had to threaten that we would leave in five minutes and then finally some food arrived. Not all of it -- still no drinks for several people. We will never be back. They did take 20% off our bill. They should have comp'd the entire dinner. It was a disgrace. read more

My mom suggested we come to this restaurant and I absolutely LOVED it. They have a contactless monitor that checks your temperature in order for you to gain entrance. Came with a group of classmates on a Wednesday night so my review is a collection of thoughts from various people in the group. 4 stars for the environment and vibe. It's a great swanky vibe and we had great service in the bowling area. They need a stock of socks so people can bowl if they forget theirs! Also, bowling is $30/hr and $4/pair of shoes. That seemed pretty pricey to me so I opted out of bowling and just watched my friends. 3 stars for the food. The club sandwich was average and the waffle fries were a little cold. Our friend took us to this restaurant because the food and service was good. Well we received our appetizers late and another table that came in after us, received their drinks and appetizers before us. Our appetizers were brought to us by two different servers. Our server name was Gabriel. He didn't have our drink order right and he was missing in action. Finally our entrees came out and one of the sides were wrong. The lady corrected it with no issue. When it was time to pay for the check, our server gave us information about a tip pool and if we were leaving him a tip on the credit card then he would have to share it with the other servers. Came in off the street. Sat at the bar and got ignored. Bartender finally came over and we ordered two old fashioned. She put it out in less than 2 min. Watched her pour extra from the previous drink and add simple syrup. Tasted like sugar water. Ordered shrimp and grits and ribs. Shrimp and Grits are 100% microwaved. Plate was scolding hot inside and out. It was scolding hot for 15 min. She couldn't eat it. It was horrible. My ribs were cold. Food was not good. Severe and manager were not polite at all. We were an inconvenience at best. A guy sat next to us and the manager made him an old fashioned. Then another guy said he was a bar supervisor grabbed the bottle of bourbon and poured another 5 count on top of his drink. All 3 played on their phone while we were there and made us feel like we are a problem vs taking care of us. It's a shame. We were excited to see the place because we are in the entertainment industry. It's just a shame that no one cares there. Checked this place out to watch some college football games on Saturday. It is a nice restaurant for downtown Columbia area. Although the menu prices may seem a little pricey, it is definitely well worth it. You absolutely get your money's worth with your entree. The bartenders were friendly and patient when I was unsure about what I wanted next. They were also pretty knowledgeable about the dishes and were open to offer suggestions and options. There is a game area and small bowling area in the back that is great for a small group also. read more

I'd rather give 1.5 stars, but that's not an option, so I rounded down because the experience was that bad. My group of 7 had a reservation for 12:00. We arrived about 5 minutes early and checked in at the hostess stand where we were awkwardly waved off with the only comment being "just wait over there" with an eye roll, like we were inconveniencing them. Those were the only words spoken to us by the hosts. No "hello," no "do you have a reservation", or anything. Whatever, it's not a big deal. After waiting almost 15 minutes in a mostly empty restaurant we were seated and our waitress came over to take drink orders. I dont know if she's new, shy, or just not good at her job, but she seemed really uncomfortable interacting with us and other tables...she definitely needs more training at the least. Our drinks (2 mimosa flights, 2 beers, one bottle of champagne, and waters) took about 20 minutes to come out. Again, the place isn't packed at all. The mimosa flights left a lot to be desired. They're supposed to be flavors like strawberry basil, peach mint, lavender something...and neither of us could really pick out which was which. They weren't labeled and they were heavy on the champagne. I'm not complaining about strong drinks, just the fact that actually tasting the flavors would have been awesome. Our appetizer came out right when our first round of drinks came. We placed food orders and they came out pretty quickly, but not one of the folks in my group actually thought their food was "good." For the price we paid, the quality of food is not reflected at all. My home fries were cold, "over easy" eggs were over hard, and the bacon wasn't very good. The gravy was nothing short of atrocious. It was super, super lumpy with scorched flour chunks like someone let the roux burn and still used it to make gravy. The salt content of the gravy tasted like they used ocean water instead of milk...basically inedible. I ordered a second mimosa flight as our entrees were brought out and then we didn't have a single person come to our table for FORTY MINUTES. we had plates half full of food, empty bottles/glasses on the table, no one one came to offer boxes, see if we wanted refills, or anything. Once we finally flagged down our waitress, I asked about the mimosa flight I'd ordered 40 minutes prior and she said she was "going to go grab it." After waiting another 20 minutes with no one coming back to the table, we flagged her down again and I told her to nix my order because we weren't going to have time. She tried to tell me her manager was making it now, but again, it had been a full hour from ordering it, and we were ready to leave. The manager came over and said "sorry it took so long, I have it ready if you want it" while we were packing our things and I said "I'm good, but thanks" and he said "real sorry about that" and shuffled back to the bar. We were never offered boxes for our food, which I guess was fine because no one wanted to take their leftovers home, but not even an offer for a box was weird. At the end of the meal, our waitress said they were short on glasses for mimosas and that's why it was taking so long to get them out...we had two empty flights with glasses sitting at our table for most of the meal and as we walked out, I noticed that at least 3 other tables that had been clear of guests for quite some time also had flight glasses on their tables...maybe if they bussed their tables they wouldn't be "short" on drinkware. If you're short on drinkware, maybe let your guests know when they order that it's going to take 30-60 minutes for it to come out or just take it off the menu...just a thought. Our brunch took two hours, with most of that time being spent trying to flag down our waitress to get a drink or refills of water. For a place that's trying to be upscale, they fall extremely short of their goal. You'll get service equal to Denny's, and honestly the food quality isn't far off from Denny's either. This was my third visit and the third time I had an overall poor experience. I have officially written the Grand off and won't return. I strongly advise others to heed the warnings of myself and others. If you want a good meal, with good service, timely service, and kind workers...go somewhere else. You're not getting any of that here. read more

Unfortunately we've been here three times and each time there was some sort of problem. The last two times the food took way too long, the bartender was not attentive and lacked customer service skills. I was offered a "bowling pass" for my inconvenience by the general manager when really he should have given me a gift certificate for the cost of the meal or credit. They are experiencing a staffing shortage, so they said but that certainly doesn't explain the lack of customer service or lack of care for my inconvenience. read more

If I could give zero stars I would... I've frequented this establishment multiple times in the past and I usually enjoy myself anytime I'm there but this has been the WORST experience I've had due to the server MK she was rude and disrespectful. First when getting there with a party of 4 we sat without any help for about 10 minutes before she came out and offered water. Fast forward we waited on our mimosa flights after reminding her for about another 10-15 minutes. Then after taking our orders we didn't receive our food for another 35-45 and when we did receive it the food was cold to the touch. I am extremely happy to see a bowling alley back downtown. Hasn't been one since the 70's. The atmosphere is very casual & comfortable. Everyone enjoying themselves. What we had, the Seafood Jambalaya was very creamy & delicious. ( with shrimp, pulled chicken, andouille, & Charleston rice with a hint of sweetness. Happy we were able to give the Grand a first time try! And we were not disappointed! We also loved the bowling here, had a blast! We will be back. read more
