One sandwich was the club and the other sandwich was the turkey pastrami. By my mistake, I thought that my was going to be turkey and pastrami. I loved the meats. I ordered The Outdoorsman, which apparently is close to an Italian. The meats were delicious but as others mentioned, my sandwich was pretty flat and didn't have a lot layers of meats like in some pictures, and the other veggie dressings were also pretty light. I added cherry peppers, and pepercini but was a bit disappointing it cost extra ( which was stated on menu). The white bread I ordered for the sandwich was slightly disappointing as I don't think they are freshly baked. Just taste like grocery bought bread. I see the owners monitor reviews so hope they find a good bakery with fresh bread to partner with. It would definitely magnify the quality of the subs, since the meats are already delicious. I was also bummed that it didn't come with at least a slice of pickle which normally comes standards with other sandwich shops. I wished I ordered a separate pickle, but didn't even see it until we were almost done. Good pickles is definitely a must, but sad to say, I didn't try it here. Place is kept clean, and I did not go to restroom so don't know if it is clean as well. Staff was friendly when ordering. Impressed with the sandwiches here, the flavor was good with the vinager and oil on it. I got the outdoorsman, it wasn't as big as pictures make it out to be, but it was good. Very simple sub on wheat, with the meats, shredded lettuce, onions, and tomato's. No cheese, that was evidently extra, as was guacamole and some other selections. The staff was super nice. The gentleman making my sub was very patient, this was a first visit. Interior was warm and welcoming, cleanish. Not a lot of sitting areas. The softness and chewiness is hard to describe . . . they are immensely satisfying. The peanut butter cookies, as well as chocolate chip, are outstanding. I usually walk over here to grab a sub with my son. My wife refuses to eat here as she said it looks dirty inside, but it doesn't steer us away because the subs are great. My son has tried many things on the menu and has enjoyed them all. He's 15, so if you have kids that age, you know how picky they can be. For me, I get the PB and banana with honey sub. I love these and it saves me the sticky mess of making them myself. They're only around $5 for my sandwich and my son's is usually $8-9 without drink or anything. The one thing I'd critique is the inside is very outdated, some could say that adds to the charm, but it does need an update, but like I mentioned, it doesn't steer me away because it's close to my house and the subs are delicious! read more

I stopped by this weekend after leaving the Modern. It is right around the corner and it was a lovely day for lunch outside. It wasn't busy when I walked in, and I was greeted immediately. I had never been before and needed a minute to look over the menu. I settled on the turkey and cheese on wheat. I got it with the works, spicy mustard, and jalapenos. I thought the sandwich was a bit pricey for what you get, but hey, fancy area of Ft. Worth, it is to be expected. I took my sandwich to go find a shady spot. The sandwich was wrapped well and looked good when I opened it. One bite and there is an overwhelming flavor...of parmesan. They had a boundary set up between me and the counter, so I could not see her make my sandwich very well, but on a sandwich containing red wine vinegar, spicy mustard and jalapenos and only tasting parmesan...that is not what I was going for. I know there are heavy cheeseheads out there, hey I like cheese, but this was just disappointing. This has been a staple for this neighborhood for a long time. Used to love going here. Sandwiches are usually pretty good. But, the last few times I've been there in recent months the issue is service. They always have like 6 people behind the counter, but take so long to make your order. I'm not sure why they need one person to make sandwiches, another to get your chips, another to get your drink, and then another person to check you out. They have at least 3 people doing 1 person's job, and they still take forever to get your sandwich made and you checked out. Then, on top of that, the young girls that work there act like they are so annoyed that you are even there. read more

My sub was such a disappointment. It was paper thin. It had 3 thin slices of meat. Any place that offers "double meat" you know you're going to get a weak sub unless you double up. This is the best sandwich spot in all of Fort Worth! As a northeastern native, finding a tasty sub shop up to my standards is almost impossible. But The Great Outdoors Sub Shop makes me miss my hometown a little less. They have an easy to use mobile app where you can order for pickup, a robust menu with everything from traditional Italian cold cuts, to pastrami, to corned beef, to delicious veggie options, and everything in between. Prepared fresh right in front of you as well. (Making me hungry again just thinking about it!) The place is always packed, but regardless of line you are never there more than 5 minutes. If you order in person though, I must suggest knowing what you want before you get in line because they keep it moving. It's just like home baby and I'm here for it! Go check them out! On to the sandwich, I ordered the #12 Hot, which is the Outdoorsman and it is comprised of a slew of random meats that all work well together and the flavors tasted good, but not a fan of the bread or portion size.
