I too, was shocked that such a decadent steakhouse was nestled in the wall of a casino... I did not expect nearly as much as was delivered! We came here to celebrate a friend and his new work ventures, so naturally we wanted to propose a few toasts. Brought our own wine and champagne, to find only a mere $9 a piece for the corking fee. Our waiter, Felix, was a master at decanting and pouring very lovely and even glasses between the 4 of us. He definitely has "it" when it comes to fine dining and wine service. If possible, ask for him by name when you go if you want to be taken care of!! Our meal was very impressive. I chose a special, leading with a portabella/balsalmic appetizer, a combination plate with a nice small and tender breast of duck and a small leg of lamb (both beautifully grilled to medium perfection), garlic mash and asparagus. Hubby had the Porterhouse, which was also medium and so flavorful! I really loved that everything came with sides, not the typical a la carte' at an arm and a leg. We each got a soup or salad and either mash/baked potato or rice with our main entree. Our friends split a nice sized filet and crab legs, which came out sliced perfectly down the middle for major convenience and less mess. All in all, this place was a slam dunk. We were not rushed, the service was impeccable and perfectly timed (to me, A BIG DEAL!) and I 110% forgot that there was a buzzing casino about 50 feet from my table out the doors, we got lost in a great evening with delicious food and pleasant ambiance. I recommend this for a nice night out to celebrate... a tad on the pricy side but well worth it if you feel like splurging but getting your money's worth and your belly full. Our bill was only 175 (forgot our friends ordered 2 appetizers as well, shrimp cocktail and crab cakes) mainly because we brought our own wine and paid only the corking fee. And if you haven't spent too much on your dinner, gamble a little more! I went here for restaurant week because for only $30, my date and I got: Appetizer: Portabella Mushroom (for me): Nothing amazing and not bad ether, but it tastes exactly how you would imagine: a huge mushroom. So if you love mushrooms, you'd love this. I do like mushrooms, but I got tired of it after a few bites. Maybe a little too mushroom-y for me. Groves Signature Homemade Chicken Wings (for him): These were yummy. The sauce was on the side which was good in case we didn't like the sauce, but the hot sauce wasn't too hot yet it had a nice kick to it. Filet Medallions: We each got the filet medallions. These were perfect! I got mine cooked medium rare and they had a good amount of pink in there. There was a piece of bread under the two medallions, which was hard and didn't care for, but the generous amount of mashed potatoes were good. Dessert (chocolate parfait, creme brulee, and raspberry custard?): We didn't like the raspberry custard that much. One word Phenomenal! The quality shines through in every dish I have had. I am still dreaming of the Bone in Ribeye. Juicy and flavorful with every bite . I hardly ever can finish a full portion of steak , but it would've been an injustice to that delicious meat not to! The lobster Mac is great addition to any dish. Huge Prawns and Shrimps. AHHHHHHHHH this place is AMAZING!! It is one of the few restaurants that I would actually give another 5 stars too if it was an option! My husband I stayed at Viejas The 25th & 26th of December. We were visiting with Family for Christmas and didn't want to take the long trek back to North County , so we had a little mini vacation. We decided to try the Grove the second night we were there for a couple of reasons...The first being, it is really the only fine dining inside of the casino, and it came highly recommended by a couple others. So happy that we decided to try it out! The service was outstanding!! It was not a very busy night, so we had a lot of service! The have an extensive wine list. And it will really fit any budget..whether you want a cheaper bottle to go through a few, or splurge on a more pricey one to enjoy with you meal. We started off with a good cab... we knew we would be eating steak so it was an obvious choice. We started with the Mushroom ravioli as an app. It was so delicious. They ave the homemade bread with butter they give and the sauce from the ravioli is a perfect accompaniment! Before our meals came out, we got a taster from the chef. a small piece of fish that he wanted us to try and it was to die for! Next we received the filet and the short rib special. Prior to having dinner here I never imagined that I would leave saying "My absolute favorite restaurant is located in the Viejas casino." Surprise! I left saying just that and have already planned to celebrate my anniversaries, birthdays, and all other celebratory-worthy life events at the grove steakhouse. The service was AMAZING. We were greeted and introduced by every staff member that made contact with us from beginning to end in a brief, sincere and professional manner. Service was so prompt it felt as if we were the only ones in the restaurant (which was certainly not the case). Absolutely everything we ate was amazing. The infused butters that came with the bread were incredible! The lobster mac and cheese was everything. I have actually dreamt about it since. Our filets were tender, flavorful and perfectly sized. Was not a good dining experience. Decided to try it before going to a concert. I sent Back the caprese salad. I sent Back the scallops. My dining partners food was just ok. They were gracious about taking the food back. Why did I send it back? The tomatoes in the salad were underripe and fuzzy old. The cheese was soured. The scallops had a really "off" taste and were not cleaned well. Had a good crunch of sand. As a "foodie" I do not recommend this place if you really enjoy food. We have been to the Grove a few times before COVID and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I was worried the experience would have changed but I couldn't have been more wrong. Dinner last night was amazing! From our check-in host, to buspersons to our waitress Angelika, everyone was gracious, super nice and attentive. The food, just so good! The lobster bisque was decadent, steak done to perfection and they still even served the palate cleansers between each course and complimentary chocolates at the end. In a day and age when no indoor dining is allowed except at casinos, we were beyond happy and didn't even realize how badly we needed a "normal" night out. We can't wait to go back! read more

After reading the reviews, I had pretty low expectations for this place. It's an Indian casino in San Diego... not exactly known for fine dining. That being said, the meal was pretty decent. They had a petite fillet special for 18 dollars that included choice of soup/salad and garlic mashed potatoes. It was actually pretty good. Steak was cooked medium rare as requested. Portion was quite large for a special. Standard steakhouse decor inside, mediocre service (attentive but not particularly friendly). I usually don't even think about going to a steakhouse unless none of the grocery stores are having a sale on the steak and craving a steak (which is really rare, just like how I like my steak). The parking isn't an issue, unless you pick a day that might have something going on at the Outlet. It just that the drive sucks ball. Service is average; Sal is very attentive and provides an excellent service while others are a-ok. Food is... well, if you try to deviate from anything other than Prime Rib, you might be in it for a surprise (not a good one too). Prime Rib, which I had last 7 out of 8 times that I had, it was good. Yes, I've been there multiple times because my parents love this spot. Last time I had, they didn't have the Prime Rib in rare, so I had to get it in Medium. I dunno, but when a beef is cooked at medium, it has that powder-ly taste that I can't get used to. If I want to eat a powder, I'll just shove some powdered donuts. The steak order comes with Soup/Salad and they serve bread, so you will be full unless you have a bottomless stomach. Also you get more bang for your buck. Good thing about this place is that NO TAX! :) so get your tip calculator ready if you depend on the taxed amount to calculate the tip. Overall, it's a good steakhouse. So I won a gift certificate to the steakhouse in a raffle, and I'm thinking to myself all year, hey $100 worth of steak can't hurt. After much procrastination I ventured to Viejas. Aside from having to walk through the sometimes smokey casino, which bugs me more and more as years pass. I found the place to be very nicely decorated and comfortable. They manage to muffle the sound the slots pretty well. My group had 3 dishes Filet Mignon, Porterhouse, and Prime Rib. All were cooked very well. Even more impressive since each of us had wildly different temperature expectations. Even good steakhouses sometimes mess up my order when I order Rare and my wife orders medium well. The food was good and the service was nice, although the waiter did make a blunder with the wine pour. After I order a bottle don't come back and drain it by filling the glasses above the half way point. You might expect that in a lower end place but they should know better. Overall I'd recommend the place as the food was good atmosphere was fine and people were friendly. The caveat would be only do it if you're already in the area, I wouldn't venture out of my way for it. read more

The steak was ordered medium and it was very well done and chewy. $50 steak should taste good and be cooked as you order it but it was not. Green beans were barely cooked and cold. My fiance's mom got a $300 voucher to eat at the Steakhouse at Viejas. I've been in Viejas Casino before but I've never heard of the steakhouse and thought that all they had was the buffet (which is not too bad either). Had the Grilled Salmon with Rice: Crispy on the outside and grilled rare on the inside... yummy! High quality salmon. Scallops were HUGE and really good. Cocktail shrimp was nothing special, but the sauce was AWESOME! It was slightly spicy which I like. The FI got Twin Filet Mignons (medium rare). I usually hate it when my steak is not medium well because I hate seeing blood but this filet mignon was sooooo yummy. However, the FI complained that the sauce was overpowering and wlll ask for next time not to have sauce on his filet mignons. For dessert, we tried the Cheesecake. It was really rich and tasted like any other regular cheesecake; there was really nothing fancy except the presentation was beautiful but that's pretty much it. Appetizers are around $13 Main Courses around $30 However, I did notice that the Australian Lobster Tail was $50. No idea why but they have $30 regular lobster tails available. My husband and I ate at The Grove for our anniversary on Saturday 08-11-18. The food was out of this world delicious!! I had the petite filet mignon and 1/2 order of king crab legs. My husband had the rib eye . We shared a loaded baked potato and grilled asparagus. More than enough to share. He was sweet and funny and they forgot to send my mom's side of asparagus out with her meal so he quickly got her asparagus and then gave us a free dessert for the trouble. The bread basket and herbed butter are so excellent and the food itself is beautifully presented. The rest of my party went with traditional steak dinners, but I'm a weirdo so I asked if I could order a few sides to create a meal and our waiter said no problem. I got the lobster mac and cheese and some crab cakes. My mom was worried that wasn't going to be enough food, but once it came out she saw it was. I really could only finish about half of each dish before I was full, so I even had leftovers for the next day. We got two free desserts (one as mentioned above) and one for celebrating an early birthday for my mom. We even got to choose our own desserts, no preset scoop of ice cream with a candle in it here. My husband and I selected the tiramisu and my mom and step-dad chose the strawberry shortcake. Both were tremendous, but I much preferred our tiramisu (I'm not big on strawberries). The tiramisu was served in a martini glass and was more like a delicate mousse. So good. Always save room for dessert, people. Our bill for three steak dinners (with added sides), two sides dishes as entrees, and two desserts (free obvs) was about $120. Not too bad when you think about a party of four eating high quality food and receiving excellent service. Oh, they also sent out these little tasters from the chef: Chicken liver pate on fresh pita chips. I don't normally eat weird body parts, but I figured I'd give it a try. It was... not awful. But not something I'd do again. My mom almost threw up, so that was comical and awesome. Went here for My Birthday. The Ribeye my BF got was really good. I tried their special of the day which is Gnocchi. I wasn't a fan of their gnocchi, reminds me of Fried tofu. I thought of Gnocchi more of a pillowy type texture. I liked that they gave me a complimentary Birthday cake. I didn't care much about the Lobster Mac & Cheese, there's a taste there that it's a bit off, must be the cheese, it has the smell/taste of gas. Service was good. My wife and I went here for our 10th Anniversary recently and I was a bit disappointed. It's been years since I've been there. They have since remodeled to brighten up the place, but the decor is rather dull in my non-expert opinion. OK, I know the food is more important. My wife had the special (Filet with 1 Scallop and a 3oz shelled Lobster Tail) and I had the Filet and 2 Scallops. The presentation on her dish was nice. Both of our steaks were cooked correctly (medium rare) and had a nice quality to them, but they lacked any seasoning. Even a little salt and pepper would have been nice and a bit of a crust would have been nice too. Definitely not the best steaks we've ever had, especially for the money, but not the worst either. The scallops on both of our dishes were over-cooked making them rubbery and a bit tough. It seemed to me that they were not cooked on a hot enough pan so there was no real crust on the outside and they were cooked a few minutes too long. I make scallops frequently at home and have over-cooked a few in my day so I know the difference for sure. As for the lobster tail, I did not try it as I do not like lobster but my wife said it was good. I also ordered a loaded baked potato. The potato was perfectly fine. It was loaded with bacon and cheese and they brought me sides of sour cream and butter. My only comment here is more regarding the attention to detail... the menu states it comes with chives. There were no chives to be found. It didn't matter to me as I didn't need them, but it does show a lack of attention to detail in my opinion. Oh, I did have the French Onion soup too. It was very flavorful. I would have liked a bit more onion in it, but the broth was delicious. The service itself was great so I don't have any complaints or negative comments there. Our server was friendly, attentive and checked in with us regularly. We didn't have to ask him for anything as he was on top of it. Overall, with the 20% discount offered to players card holders and the $25 food credit I had from the casino, I felt better about the price vs quality, but if I did not have those discounts, I would have been extremely disappointed with the cost vs the food. I would have rather paid the full price and had exceptional food especially giving the occasion. We had a nice evening and a decent meal, but I've had much better experiences at other steakhouses for slightly higher prices (ie. Ruths Chris, Morton's, Donovan's, Island Prime, and even Fiori at Harrah's) Food Quality - 3 Atmosphere - 3 Service - 5 Value - 3 In the end, I don't see us rushing back to the Grove any time soon. I'd rather use the $25 food credit and hit up their buffet. read more

But and this is a big one, Something has happened with the food quality. I never thought I would write a bad review about this restaurant, but they need to do something about their chef. Food is coming out on the oddest looking plates. They do not match other plates that are being used. The plating is not being done professionally anymore. We've been coming here for years and were curious how the changes would effect one of our favorite restaurants. We shouldn't have been concerned as it was fantastic. We had outstanding service which we're become so used to whenever we're at Viejas. Very attentive staff and our waiter Ray was excellent. The food was even better than in the past and the chef even came to the table to make sure we were happy with our meal. My wife had her usual filet mignon and I had the special which was a panchetta wrapped sea bass. Both were cooked to perfection! You do have to order the sides separately but they are large enough to share. We're already looking forward to coming back. read more

We love this restaurant! We make the 40 minute drive often because it's so good! From their appetizers to desserts it's great. Even their baked potatoes are delicious! The steaks are amazing which doesn't always happen at steak restaurants!! They're tender and always perfectly cooked. We always ask for Tina for our server. She's really sweet and very attentive. The service here is always good and last time we had a really good busser named Thomas! The only downfall to this place is that you need to walk through the super strong smelling smoking section in the casino. We've eaten at the Grove many times but our latest experience was very disappointing. The shrimp cocktail was delicious as usual. We ordered filet mignon medium rare. Baked potatoes brought to the table were delicious and when the filets were served, they were overcooked and sent back. We also got an order of mushrooms. A half hour later, we got our filets cooked perfectly but the potatoes and mushrooms were no longer hot & the filets and mushrooms lacked flavor. Burnt sugar layer on the creme brulee was over burnt and hard. Our favorite server Felix took great care in handling these issues and Michael made it right. Very poor customer service. We had planned a family dinner for my father's 80th birthday. My brother who is very detailed oriented made the reservations for 9/14/2017. My bother and father drive all the way up to Viejas Casino from El Centro, CA. Which 2 hours away. My father was really looking forward to his awesome steak dinner at The Grove. The rest of the family drove from all areas including North County to meet at the restaurant at 7:00pm. My fiancé and 13 year old son got there first and walked and stood outside the restaurant while my father and brother arrived and was parking the car. Some woman I believe she was the manager came up and said "Unfortunately your son can not dine in the restaurant because he is not 21 years old. I panicked and told her we are here to celebrate my fathers 80th birthday and why did she let us know this rule. She adamantly stated she told my brother this. This is absolutely not true because if she did he would have canceled the reservations and we made other arrangements. When my poor father showed up he was so disappointed as we all were. My poor son was confused why he couldn't eat in the steakhouse with his grandpa. The woman was absolutely heartless with a too bad attitude. As we were asking why didn't she informed us and that this has ruined my father's birthday dinner plans a security guard walked up to my son and asked for his ID. What an idiot! It's pretty obvious he is a kid and doesn't have idea. I explained the situation and we were here because we had plans to go to The Grove Steakhouse and was turned away. Our dinner experience at The Grove was absolutely exceptional. The service, ambience, and food was fantastic from beginning to end. It was a wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary. I had read great reviews on this restaurant for some time, and often saw it noted as among the best dining experiences in San Diego. Those reviews were certainly on. There were all sorts of special little taste bites and other high-end touches throughout the meal. Wow, what a great experience! We started in the little bar with an adult beverage - CJ, the bartender was wonderful. Friendly, helpful and courteous. Then, we checked in for our dinner reservation. The young ladies were very nice and made us feel special. Our waiter, Felix, well, he was just amazing. Super nice and knowledgeable, making recommendations and just an all out great guy.
