For doing absolutely nothing. It's a fully self served restaurant. Not a fan. Drinks are so pricey. Soft drinks. And of course no water option unless you buy their bottled distilled water (yuck) it's Dasani brand, not even a quality brand. Maybe go for a cocktail or happy hour for the vibe. The Gulf is our favorite casual dining experience while in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area. The food is consistently delicious and high quality. I recommend the fish dip--just do it! We went here based off a recommendation. The food we ordered were the lobster and crab roll, shrimp tacos, redfish BLT, and kids chicken tenders. There wasn't one dish I would recommend. It lacked flavor in all dishes. No seasoning and very underwhelming. The atmosphere is nice but the food is hardly worth 1 star. For the price we thought it would be much better. OK, so fair or unfair but the only water you offer customers is a $3 Dasani bottle and no tap, you lose a star. Nickel and diming customers irritates me, especially when I spend $116 on lunch (after tip) for 2 adults, 2 kids with 2 alcoholic beverages. The place is very nice. All outdoor/bar seating. Great view. Clean. Good for kids to run around. Dog friendly. No servers, so you order at the bar. Food and drinks were very good. Fish sandwich great, as were the fish tacos. Spicy marg is a great drink and the hand cut fries are good as well. Everything is a la carte, so no sides with your sandwich. If you want fries, $5. Not sure if it was the day or the location but there are these flies that bite the heck out of you around the ankles. Not sure if anything can be done about that, but it's not pleasant. Overall, 5 stars on food quality, quantity and flavor. 3.5 on ambiance if you're looking for a chill beach lunch, would have been 4 or 5 but those flies... 2 on value. I get it's the beach, and touristy and a little pricey but the water situation still bugs me and the a la carte sides when I'm spending $23 on a fish sandwich (albeit excellent) just seems like they're trying to squeeze every dollar out of the tab. My daughter and I visited Orange Beach for the week. She's not super adventurous, but I wanted seafood and talked her into The Gulf. We loved the atmosphere, it wasn't crowded at all (mid-afternoon on a Thursday in June), the staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was perfect. I had shrimp tacos, she got a burger and fries. Situated right on the beach with lots of shady areas for drinks and conversation, the Gulf is one of my favorite stops at Orange Beach. It's lively and has that relaxed beach feel for an afternoon that begs you to linger. I was very impressed with the food. It's served picnic style with ordering at a window. The kitchen is very flexible - they turned their Jerk Mahi-Mahi Taco Bowl into a chicken taco bowl for me (I don't eat fish) with either grilled or fried chicken.
