I'll definitely be back to eat here though because it's a really cool family restaurant atmosphere with lots of art and videos of Nepal on the walls. I got a veggie thali, which for $16 was an excellent portion of rice, pickles, mustard greens, black beans, and cup of soup. Very filling and so many flavors that go well together. I don't normally eat spicy but the spice level was nice and gave a good kick while being tolerable. My partner loved the chicken momo and samosa. Everything was very tasty and I'll definitely be back to try the paneer dishes. There's plenty of veggie options as well as meat. Service was great and very friendly. I was trying to find a breakfast place and bumped into this place. Though they aren't open for breakfast, I returned today when I heard Momo from one of the colleague and started craving Momo for lunch. The place serves Nepalese dishes along with some Indian and Indo-Chinese specialities. I ordered veg Momo and veg chow Mein noodles to-go. It did take like 20 mins but the host was very welcoming and was offering water and tea in the meantime. I drove back to work and still the Momos were steaming hot. They wrapped the Momos in a foil paper which really helped a lot. Their Momo chutney tasted amazing with some hot sauce and surely on top of Momo. From the chow Mein perspective, it was a really good chow Mein I've had in some months now. It'll truly remind you of the street side chow Mein guy in your neighborhood in India. If you aren't aware of Indo Chinese cuisine, then Indian chow Mein can be best described as 'Indians took the healthy chow Mein from China, added a lot of oil, spices and veggies to it making it very very delicious'. The one star is not for the food, that was great. It's for the restaurant's service. A friend of mine took me to this place and liked it enough to bring my family to try a new culture's food. This ended up being an embarassment. There were only 3 parties ordering at the restaurant, so it was almost empty when we ate there and I have to say it, we were the only white family. I don't expect great service at restaurants off the bat at any restaurant, but the waiter pushed us to order, barely attended the table and gave us the stinkeye until we left, while the other tables received fully attended, friendly service and weren't rushed out the door. There was no reason to treat us differently, and they made it uncomfortable enough to want to get out ASAP. I have zero intention to come back or to give any recommendation for anyone else to eat here. read more

Absolutely FABULOUS!!!! We got a fried potato starter and something rolled into balls that came in two sauces and surrounded my chickpeas. Both appetizers were insanely good. I've always heard the legendary dumplings of Nepal called momos. Well I finally got to try it and the good news is I was not disappointed. In fact, I was very happy and satisfied that I was able to finally try the momos. The momo dumplings with the curry sauce was just... chefs kiss. It makes me want to venture out to try the different types of momos out there. We've also gotten some Nepalise and Indian dishes which were all delicious, this was also one of the few rare times where I did not feel bloated and heavy after eating Indian food due to all the heavy cream and seasonings they use, but I never regret eating it, always hits the spot when it needs to. They give you a lot of food, it may look deceptively small, but it is actually a lot. My friend and I ordered the chicken curry plate, chicken momos, and the Kashmiri lamb and garlic naan. The Thali was served with Kalo daal - a unique daal version unknown in India which was made with Urad daal ( split black gram or lentil) - this was , for us the highlight of the Thali apart from the goat curry! Delicious food. Ordered the bbq goat and dumplings. Dumplings were great and just the right amount of spicy. I was warned that the goat would be a bit chewy, which yes, of course it is, but the flavor was great. The mustard seed salad was tasty and interesting, had never tried that before! They used a rag that they also used to wipe the counter where the take out food was being placed. They would use the rag to dry their hands and when not in use and was left either on the counter while they took care of the bills or took money. Or the rag was hung up on a push-pin into the wall. Also saw an older man, possibly a cook or owner, shake some food off a plate, taken from one of the customer's tables and then put it on the stack of clean dishes to be re-used I used to go here very few weeks but will probably only get take out orders now read more

Decided to order pickup from here on door dash and I really enjoyed all the delicious food! I ordered on a Wednesday Night and it was ready within 20 minutes. Everything was packaged really nicely and came with utensils + napkins. When I went to pick up, there were some people seated at the restaurant so they also allow some indoor dining. We got the Tikki Chat, Chicken Biryani, Pahadi Chicken Tikka Kabob, and Garlic Naan. The portions are really big (especially the Biryani) which is really great. On this cold day, I stopped by the restaurant for a quick lunch. After scanning the menu, I decided to try Chicken Choila which comes with beaten rice, toasted beans and pickles. The chicken was cold. I checked with the owner and it was how the dish was intended to be served. On this cold day, I did not enjoy the cold food. It may take a second for your eyes to adjust to the dim, cozy atmosphere of Gurkha Kitchen. Surrounded by photos and decorations of Nepal, it almost feels like you've walked into a cabin located high in the Himalayas. But it turns out that this eatery is located in nothing more than a humble Sunnyvale strip mall between New India Bazar and a martial arts academy. And this is the place to come for some authentic Nepalese food! We started our meal with an appetizer of the samosa chaat, a wondrous mixture of chana masala (chickpeas) with a broken samosa, layered with chopped tomatoes, onions, chutneys, yogurt, and sev! What an incredible explosion of flavors and textures--this chaat was savory, sweet, acidic, warm, cooling, crunchy, crispy, and soft all at once! But the real reason to come to Gurkha Kitchen is for its Nepalese specialties. The Khaja Sets came with a choice of meat along with beaten rice (cheura) mixed with bhatmas (soybeans), tomatoes, onion, and cilantro; and achar, a spiced vegetable "pickle" with the flavor of a vegetable curry. As for the meats, we tried both the chicken choila (spiced chunks of chicken served cold) and the khasi ko sekuwa (meaty, spiced country-style goat served hot), and everything on both of these plates was delicious--I especially liked the crunch of the soybeans mixed in with the slightly chewy beaten rice. Next, I also tried the Thakali Thali Goat, a metal combo platter with a bunch of different items surrounding a mound of white rice. The goat curry came with chunks of bone-in goat in a thin but flavorful gravy. There was also a soup of black-eyed peas, potatoes, and other vegetables; kalo dal (black lentils); raayo ko saag (cooked mustard greens); achar (spiced vegetable pickle), and a small ramekin of ghee. Everything on this thali was delicious--the black-eyed peas and the kalo dal had an earthy flavor and creamy texture; the goat curry was nicely spiced without being overwhelming; and the bitter mustard greens and the achar balanced out the different flavors! I've tried their Chicken Jhol momo, chicken chowmein, chilli chicken, pani puri, and chicken biryani so far. The chicken biryani and pani puri are good ( I prefer my local go-tos from Fremont and Milpitas for those). But I'm blown away by their Jhol momo!! It is just so yum and as authentic as the one you get back home in Nepal. The chilli chicken delivers the same homely flavor as well. I paired the chicken chilli with chiura (or poha in Hindi) and it tasted amazing. The chicken chowmein is also good. I asked them to go mild with that for my toddler and there goes my toddler enjoying his noodles. Lots of other places aren't able to tone down on the spices as good as they were able to. I'm yet to try other items from their menu but I'm sure they'll stand out as well. Happy eating guys this place is a gem. I drive 20 mins one way for their yummy Jhol momos. Yes, it's that good. The momos are just so delicious with or without the Jhol (soup) or any sauces. Plus the ambience of the place is good to enjoy a yum sit down meal with good serving staff. This is a small, quaint Nepalese joint, which I recently came to know about (apparently it's been around for 4 years). I ordered to go: chilli chicken and chicken fried rice. Chicken fried rice: 3.5/5. Generous portion. Loaded with veggies and a good quantity of chicken. The veggies were undercooked. Although I like the crunch, this was close to being raw. The chicken pieces were of the perfect bite size, and quite juicy. The overall flavor of the rice was quite bland and the rice lacked seasoning. But adding some condiments and salt improved the taste. Chill chicken: 3.5/5. This dish was not the "chilli chicken" I was expecting, but it was quite tasty regardless. The portion size was disappointing for the price. The chicken pieces had more coating than I prefer, but not too bad. The sauce was good. Special mention: The chilli sauce they gave on the side was exceptional. I wish I asked for more. Definitely a must try item! This place seems to have good potential. The staff are courteous.
