3.5 stars. I was going to a place up the block but the line was nuts and realized there was a Halal Guys spot. Boom. Why not. Got the chicken gyro with the white and the hot sauce. The hot sauce has a nice kick and everything plays well together. It can get messy, but isn't that half the fun?! I'll update with a full review once I make my second trip and try other stuff. Dude...it's Halal Guys. They can't go wrong for cheap and filling food! I always always get the combination regular sized platter which includes the lamb and chicken over yellow rice on top of salad and tomatoes with a side of pita bread. Obviously I can not forget the delicious white sauce and the extremely spicy red (hot) sauce. I first had this wonderful meal in NYC for only $6. Now the halal guys stores have opened up all over the world which is great but the prices have increased for all the stores. So that is the main downside of my entire review. Although it is great these stores offer much much more options than the original food cart. Some stores offer baklava, french fries, hummus and etc. Overall it is fast food, quite good for average price. read more

If there was zero stars that is what I would give this halal guys location. I placed an order on grubhub and even called the business to confirm receipt of my order. They acknowledged and i advised the lady on the phone I wanted Sauce on the side. Food arrived missing one combo plate, hummus and a side dish of falafel. Very upsetting. My friends got their food and I am left sitting here hungry. I called to ask if they had forgot to give the grubhub driver the full order and they didn't even complete my order. Didn't even know how to complete a simple order. Is what it is. I called grubhub and got what was missing refunded. It is too bad this location tarnishes the good customer service of this franchise. The portion was ridiculously small compared to the photos ! I ordered red and white sauce and paid for it ... but only received white sauce ! Then when I decide to just eat .. I never thought I'd see one of these outside of NYC and the first time I had it at the cart on 53rd and 6th I was blown away, like really I had to run back to my platter because the taste blew me down the street. I'm pretty sure there's a review of it buried in my collection somewhere. So how's the brick and mortar restaurant? Well I think there's something about standing in line for a halal gyro slathered with the infamous white sauce. It's still great but for some reason it's not quite the same as it being dug out of the cart. Is it because it's slightly fresher since they have a constant stream of customers forcing them to churn the food and refill it constantly? I dunno. The place is clean but even the beverage choices are limited compared to at the cart which has a huge bucket of beverage choices. it's great to be able to have this so I don't have to catch a train into the city for this treat. read more

The food is almost the same as the cart food. (Slight difference, or it may just be in my head... but the food is still delicious!) Cost: It costs a little bit more than the cart. The cart used to be $5, then $6, and now is $7. At the store there are two sizes unlike the cart: the regular size in store is the size you get at the cart but it costs $8.79 or so in store. Portions: Portions are not as big as the cart but it also depends on your server. Normally, the portions do fill you up... but again, depends on your server. Staff: There were a couple times we came and then did not see our regular people so we walked away. The reason for this? The new staff tends to be very stingy with the portions. One time we went when our regulars were not there and our server gave us one spoon of rice and filled our plate with lettuce (more lettuce than rice)-- when we asked for a little more, he said it would be $2.50 extra. Now we don't go unless our regular server is there. Before we would go for Fateen, Jennifer, and Monica-- but unfortunately Fateen and Jennifer are gone. But thankfully Monica is still there and she knows how to serve us right! She always greets us with a happy welcome and smile and always always always makes sure that the falafels are fresh and that our plates have the right amount of food. Long story short: Food is good. Pretty cool to see these guys expanding, so now you can try it if your not in the city. And I much prefer the idea of getting it from a restaurant than a street cart. For fast casual food, decent flavor and not too expensive. Ive tried both the falafel and the combo lamb/chicken. Both pretty tasty. With the platter you get the meat with lettuce, tomato and pita. Surprisingly not a huge fan of the white sauce everyone goes crazy for, but they do have a bbq sauce that most people might not know about which is good. They also have baklava and hummus. read more

This was a lackluster experience for me. To be fair I ordered my meal through DoorDash. This may be a food experience that needs to be eaten ASAP. After going to the city's original halal guys, this halal guys was definitely not the same. This particular store has two options (small for $7.50 and large for $8.50) whereas the original halal guys in the city is a flat $7 for a platter. But still, they have a reward card and a 10% student discount so it's not that bad, and it's close to school (Rutgers University-Newark) so that's a plus too. read more

I work down the road and have been seeing so many people in this establishment since it opened. I decided to finally check it lut with a co worker. I am a fan of Halal food in NYC so thought to myself, why not. I got the small platter of lamb. Consist of yellow rice, lamb, and a small salad of lettece,tomato and cucumber. I asked for onions to put on top of my lamb. They then added some taziki sauce (white sauce) and 1 line of the red. I ate the whole platter since I was starving but I felt like I've had better elsewhere. It was good but not great. The staff were very nice. I've gone to other halal guys location and this location had the best customer service and employees! I told one of the employees that I'm a vegetarian. They were so considerate that my pita bread was heated up separately. I was taken aback by this exceptional service because I am used to employees just throwing my pita bread on the same grill as they chop up their chicken, beef, and lamb. Not worth the price. They just increased all the prices recently and My biggest issue with them is that they fill you platter with lots of lettuce and barely any rice. And when you ask for a normal amount of rice, they tell you it'll be a $1 extra. I just don't get why they are so stingy with rice. To make it worse, the food isn't very good. Stopped by there for lunch on a Saturday. Line was short, but service was really slow. Did I say service was slow? Is this supposed to be similar to a Subway's or Chipotle? Don't you just tell them what to scoop and they will scoop it out and move your item down the line? Yes, that is how this place works! However, it took this one server forever to squeeze out the white and red sauce. She probably applied the smallest amount of pressure possible to get the sauces to flow come out at the slowest possible rate. Granted, this was their first week of opening, everyone is new, and they're just trying to figure things out. When you order for a platter, they ask if you want the sauces on the platter or if you want the to-go packaged sauces. They charge you extra for the to-go packages. You would have to ask a few times: "more sauce please" for them to squeeze more sauces onto your platter. I also attribute to it seeming that most the workers there have never worked before and that this is their first real job. They're quite stingy on the sauces the first time, so don't be afraid to ask for more sauce. In fact, while we were there, two people (looks like the two people with most say/power) walked around and asked how everyone's food was, if everything was okay, and asked if we'd like more sauces added. I give them props for this effort. Now, the quality of the food. I paid a little less than $10 for a beef/chicken combo platter. PLENTY of rice, good amount of meat, literally a teaspoon of tomatoes (not many people would complain about that since most care about the meat portions), and a good amount of lettuce. The amount of pita bread they give me was a food amount. Everything was somewhat bland, which is why I used a lot of white and red sauce. Red sauce here is very spicy (for scale, I usually get a 3 or 4 out of a 5 scale at Indian/Thai restaurants), spicier compared to the halal carts in NYC. I would say that I'd still much rather spend $8 at a Chipotle or go to a Five Guys. There's just more flavor in the food of those other two places. Also, they don't give out cups for water. We inquired as the register, and cashier said their policy is no water cups. Another worker said that fountain drinks are unlimited refills, but after trying to sell us on that and we declined, she went to the cupboards and brought out 2 small plastic cups for us. The level of customer service here was great. They're putting in a lot of effort to secure loyal customers from the beginning, but food would need to get better (especially for the price) for me to come back. read more

This place is really creepy. Mediocre food, bad service. I came before the rush and was the only customer in the entire store. All the food was already made and set up so that wasn't the problem. There were eleven people behind the counter. I counted to make sure. By the time I got my two sandwiches, made by committee, and paid, which was also botched, it took 16 minutes. Two sandwiches, a drink and a baklava were 26 bucks. They charge extra for everything. Using chicken thighs only is kinda weird. They should have white and dark meat. The place is nice and well established, Staff was friendly for the most part however food quality and freshness are not as good as original city cart.The meat portions are 25% less, I don't think I would go there again. Sauce was great as expected, They don't leave hot and white sauce bottles at the tables or anywhere - a staff member had to stand by you initially while eating with 3 bottles to add sauce at your preference, Definitely order to go to avoid that. Finding a parking spot was almost easy on Saturday (after 6) however it does seem a challenge on weekdays. I have been to the Halal Guys in the city and the satisfaction of eating HG is definitely there but the quantity sadly is not. If you ask for anything over rice, they fill half of the plate up with either lettuce or tomatoes or both, leaving little room for the rice and the meat. If you ask them not to serve you lettuce, the quantity of the rice is still the same and it is absolutely minuscule. I hope they stop this practice of trying to save some money and offer the same quantity as their competitors and the rest of the carts. Otherwise, the food is good. Haven't tried any of their gyros but the combo over rice is to die for. Just wished they provided more. read more
