To sum up in one word: wow. I have been meaning to check out this place for awhile. I visit NYC fairly often and this place is very close to my good friend's apartment. Every time I walk by The Handpulled Noodle on the way to her place, it is PACKED. There is very minimal seating, and in the winter months the windows were so steamy you can barely see in. So, finally one day I walked by a few minutes after they opened and there was only one person sitting inside. This was my chance! I walked in and chatted up the guy working the register, asking him what I should order. I ended up getting the lagman noodles with spicy cumin lamb. Normally I am not a lamb person but the way it was spiced was just so good. And the noodles! They are like nothing I've ever eaten before. They are pretty substantial and I could see how the noodle dishes would be good even without meat. I took half of mine home and had it for lunch the next day! Anyway, I will totally be back next time I'm visiting my friend. And then when I tasted the food I was impressed again! I ordered the stir fry veggies with curry seitan and thick noodles, medium spicy, extra veggies. It was amazing. Alright. I decided to give The Handpulled Noodle another shot. I figured, with dine-in being mostly closed for a year, they would have figured out their system. WRONG. I ordered 5 items, only 3 arrived. Had to spend 30 minutes arguing with Doordash to get a refund. Aside from that, the chicken dumplings were not good. The garlic bokchoy was okay. I order Dapan Niu, original stir-fry with lagman noodle with chicken Food 4 out of 10 esp Da Pan Niu, it was very garlicy, The noodles were very chewy, more firm than it should have been. I tried the noodle place as well. The food here is good for late night cravings, but the price (which was already a little steep at $12+ for to-go noodles) went up again recently to $13+ and I have to wonder if coming here every week and buying my meals for the next few days is still viable for my college student wallet... plus there is an upcharge for getting handpulled noodles vs no extra $ for packaged noodles...which seems wrong considering that this store is a specialty handpulled noodle place! When I first discovered this place, I was obsessed with their spicy cumin lamb soup with ribbon noodles, lamb burger, and stir fried ribbon noodles with beef. Definitely try these! The cashier knew my face+name because my roommates and I came for pickup so often haha. Try to eat in-house because the handpulled noodles are thicker than at Xian Famous Foods and tend to get stuck in a solid block when taken out (~10 min walk). The stir fry meats are tasty but not very tender. However, the stir fry sauce is SO good!! The soup broth is full of flavor too! The dumplings are expensive at about $1 per dumpling. HPN makes some really great food. They're pretty much tied for my favorite hand-pulled noodle place... but they eke out an advantage in that they deliver. My GF and I get this pretty often My order always get there hot and quickly and the food is consistently exactly what I want. I always add extra meat and veggies, which turns my meal into 2-3... and the leftovers are really good cold or hot. Had delivery for first time. Ordered 3 items through grub. 1. Noodles with chicken and medium hot 2. Wide noodles in soup with beef 3. Pork and chive fried dumplings 1. Though I expected delivered noodles to be not ideal, I thought it would have more flavor. It was bland and spicy. Mystery sauce with ginger and garlic I guess. Big problem was they sent pork with veg, as this was for a non- pork eater who had to toss most of it. 2. Again very bland flavorless mess. Didn't finish. 3. Dumplings were ok, but I don't think They were hand made. Tasted like frozen dumplings I get in Chinatown. Also, Not as big as pictured. Overall this place would be more acceptable if costs was less like noodles from Chinatown. Alas at uptown, they can get away with this due to lack of good Chinese noodle shop. i have been here multiple times before and the food is good. similar to xians in style. you can pick the type of noodles you want, meat, etc to customize the order. tiny little place with just stool seating. why 2 stars? because the service is absolutely horrible you should always give priority to people who are IN THE STORE. the last time we went here, we waited in line for 30 minutes, and didn't even get to PLACE AN ORDER. this is because they had so many online orders coming through, that they continuously attempted to fill all of them first, but more just kept coming. after 30 minutes of waiting, the line was out the door, and us being the first in line, had not yet even ordered. we left. i can only imagine how long the others had to wait before placing their order, let alone actually getting their food. read more

I've been blown away. Get the chopped noodles with cumin lamb $11; it's expensive but it's a lot of food and it really is delicious. It is served with cucumbers and cilantro which provides a nice freshness:) I did get medium spicy level, and it wasn't spicy at all actually. Next time I'll get high spice for sure. In the two years I've lived in Hamilton Heights, this place has stolen my heart and stomach. I've shared this piece of noodle heaven with about a dozen friends, both local and from out of town, all of who, have left smitten. This is the type of meal where you don't want to go out on the town after but instead want to lay on the couch in elastic waist pants with your taste buds in a total post climactic high. I personally love the spicy cumin lamb with the ding ding noodles but really the only mistake you can make with this menu is to not order at all. The sliders are also an explosion of flavor. I have a high tolerance for spice and always order the medium spice. I find the spice level sufficient with room for a higher dosage; however, I've never ventured to the highest spice level as the no refund disclaimer gives me pause. I've only ever gotten delivery here but I figured since I've ordered from this place several times now I should write about it. I'm vegan, and I always get the seitan soup with the veggie wontons and veggie dumplings, and it's always amazing. They also have great customer service, since I needed it once for my order. My husband isn't vegan and he usually gets the beef stir fry or the beef soup and he loves it too. He also says my seitan soup is really impressive, so I highly recommend it. On one recent occasion, I tried calling 4 different times to make an order in the span of 2 hours. Nada. 2a) The front end employee(s) look disinterested and annoyed at helping anyone out. They seem to be more interested in playing around with each other and chatting with the kitchen staff rather than greeting customers and making sure we're attended to. 2b) On that note, maybe because they're too busy hanging out, the meals coming out of the kitchen are so inconsistent it's infuriating. I think this place provides a solid food option, and the food (when it's properly prepared and not mysteriously missing ingredients) can be great. Got bad food poisoning from the Dapan-Niu Saturday night. Vomiting and diarrhea all of Sunday. The timing + not having eaten much else Saturday (and nothing Sunday) + being able to stimulate a horrible vom sesh by thinking about the Dapan-Niu make me certain it was Handpulled Noodle. Called to ask for a refund --which is a pretty benign course of action under the circumstances-- and the manager said that because I couldn't prove it, they wouldn't give me a refund, voucher, or any form of kindness. Would really love your manager/business (and other like businesses) to get over the obnoxiously insensitive legal lens of "well, you can't prove it." I'm not threateningly to sue you. What damage does a $26 refund or voucher do to your books? Opt for the lens of "being a decent human being" and just offer it as a gift, even if you feel the need to cover your ass by writing that you don't accept culpability on the receipt. I do my best to be decent by ordering from your website, so that you make max profits and don't get ripped off by Seamless (Also worth mentioning I give you my business all the time and have referred others, shawelcome). Probably the best take out joint in the neighborhood! Their food is flavorful, and personally I like the thicker noodle (as compared to the flat ones at Xi'an). My favorite is the cumin lamb noodle, though the lamb sometimes is a hit or miss. There are a few times it's been really oily and chewy and I've had to throw most of the meat out. Overall, this place is a great and unique addition the neighborhood and I get takeout from here at least a couple times a month. read more
