I never write bad reviews. They were out of their famous chicken pot pie on a Monday. 15 minutes after being seated we got dry cornbread with no water. We gave our waitress the card to pay out after still no food for over a half hour. She then gave us 2 pieces of free pie she felt terrible. This pic explains it all. This is the place to eat in Oak Glen. It gets packed and doesn't stay open late, so be ready. They have some take-out windows which also get huge lines. The menu is limited but well designed. The prices for breakfast are very low for what you get. I wouldn't be surprised if they use 5 eggs in each egg dish. They put a lot of detail into the experience, so you feel like you've stepped back in time. There's a big dirt parking lot and lots of room on the street for parking. If you're willing to walk about a mile round trip, you can get to the pumpkin patch, flower rows, additional shops and areas where they grow all the other fruit trees. read more

Wow this was good. We went today (Saturday in October). First off I am very glad I came early because this place gets very very very busy. I got their early and still waiting for a table for 50 minutes. Anyways, the food was amazing. We got the chicken pot pie, corn chowder in the bread bowl, slices of pie, their version of a cheese fondue, and apple cider to drink. All was really tasty and worth the wait. The solid pewter steins that the drinks are served in are outstanding, however, and all of our drinks stayed ice cold throughout the meal. They have an excellent beer and cider list for $5 a bottle, which is pretty great. Need to come back when their homemade cold apple cider is in season. The food is fantastic. We got the hot stilton cheese dip to start, which was insane. A must get! And of course, the chicken pot pie. Best damn pot pie I've ever had in my life. We stop here a few weeks back on our way home. The food was amazing !! Service was outstanding!! I had the open faced roast beef sandwich best I have ever had. My husband had the pot pie said it was the best he has ever had. We had two deserts both were yummy I even got some sweets to bring home. It would have got 5stars but one little thing. They had a live band they were very good!! But very very load. So we could not enjoy talking to each other while they were playing. It was great while they were on there break. I was so excited to go to this colonial style restaurant. My initial impression was that it's cute inside and out. The decor could be dusted off, and the floor was a bit dirty, however, I was still excited to try it out. Our waitress was nice, and the bread she brought out was tasty. Once we placed our lunch order, it took an exceptional amount of time for our food to come out. It was not busy at all at this time,as there was only 2 other tables with customers. I had ordered a grilled garden sandwich for $12.50. Upon arrival, I was beyond unimpressed. There was literally 1 1/2 thinly sliced zucchini, 1 cherry tomato cut in half and about 5 sprigs of arugula on half the sandwich. The other side of the sandwich had 3 zucchini, 1 1/2 cherry tomatoes and about the same amount of arugula on it. It was the saddest sandwich I'd ever seen. Let alone charged $12.50 for. I promptly talked to the waitress and said this is unacceptable. She agreed and stated that all of the sandwiches that they offer are pathetic. She offered to bring out more veggies (zucchini and tomatoes) to make up for it. Overall, I learned that what you pay for while here is the decor, clearly not the food quality. This place could be a lovely gem in the rough. However, it's obvious that the owners are not putting much effort or money into maintaining there business to keep customers happy but relying on its minimally maintained decor to draw people in. I recommend this establishment for its immersive experience and uniqueness. Definitely recommend taking a day off during the week to enjoy the restaurant as it is packed on the weekends and get a sense of the hospitality that Riley's Farm is providing. This experience gets 5 stars... because it's the total package. We recently moved to Beaumont, CA. It has been a great experience getting to know this little town and the surrounds and this includes all the neat eateries and experiences in the general vicinity. The Hawk's Head Public House at Riley's Farm made for a delightful destination. Firstly, I love the fact that the location is not too far up into the mountains, but just far enough for the scenery to change. On the drive up there (10 FWY to Beaumont Avenue and then just go North), you will see a number of horse and cattle properties and one even with a couple of bison... loved that! Anyway, the drive up is a relatively short jaunt from the freeway and well worth the diversion. We need to return to explore Riley's Farm a little more extensively, but let's focus on the Hawk's Head. We were thoroughly charmed by this establishment from the moment we walked in the door. If you've ever been to some of the historic locations in points east (Hudson River Valley, Ohio River Valley), such as the cute little way stops and taverns... well, I never thought to encounter such a place in the foothills of SoCal! A+ for atmosphere, right down to the pubkeeper costumes of the wait staff. A word about the wait staff... pleasantly chatty, informative and outstandingly prompt and accommodating. We had a party of four and this was the first visit for all of us. We enjoyed two appetizers, the sausage and apples and stilton cheese with toast and apple slices. Both were HUGE and delightful! Be careful, though! Everything is served piping hot and that cheese holds the heat! The presentation and the preparation were both true to the spirit of the place, unpretentious and generous. This, combined with the quaint, icy cold, steel tankards for our drinks, definitely set the right tone. The gentlemen in our party both got the chicken pot pie and were kind enough to share! It lived up to its reputation as the best. I judge a pot pie on whether or not it's a real pie (double-crust). Too often, places skrimp on the crust! I can't remember the last time I saw or tasted a pot pie - other than many years ago at home - with a double crust... and GREAT crust, at that. The savory filling was replete with tender chicken and was seasoned just like you'd imagine mom or grandma would have made it down on the farm. A true comfort food. One of us got the open-face roast beef, which I admit I did not try, but it looked truly delicious. For me... I got the Forfar Scottish Bridie, a meat pastry that originates from Forfar, Scotland... what else would you expect a lass of Scots ancestry to get? Aye? It was presented beautifully and the crust was a perfect (and I do mean PERFECT) golden brown, flaky and tender-crisp on the outside and just the right texture baked close to the filling. Generous and richly-flavored. I'm really not a gravy or sauce kind of gal, but I have to admit that the very light, but extremely flavorful sauce on the bridie was outstanding. All the entrees were accompanied by arguably the most flavorfully-prepared French green beans I've ever had, cooked to tender-crisp perfection... no problem eating your veggies HERE! Here's the best tip I can offer about the menu/food... SHARE the dessert. The four of us got two slices of the crumb crust apple pie. Now, I don't carry a tape measure or a ruler around with me, but I would venture that this pie was at least six inches high at the center point, chock full of nothing but layers of thinly-sliced tangy apple goodness and none of that gooey, sugary filler that so many pies have. It was 100% pure goodness... I think our server said they only use three ingredients in their pie filling and not a one of them sugar! The single slice of pie could easily be shared by two (or more) people. While we didn't get one to take home, they do sell these pies. You can order them (as well as apple tart or caramel covered apple dumplings - both huge) from the server. Pies come in two varieties - crumb crust or double crust and in two sizes - three pound or five pound! Take my advice. Ditch Marie Callenders for the Thanksgiving pie and make the trip up here! Well worth the drive and a far better value for the price. I must say, our party gave the visit eight enthusiastic thumbs up and that we are all looking forward to returning to the Hawk's Head for lunch any day and, most definitely for one of their upcoming events. Although Riley's Farm is well-known for apple picking, we were interested to see they also have a pumpkin patch and berry picking. Throughout the year, the Farm and/or the Hawk's Head hosts intriguing feasts and programs. I'm especially looking forward to the Sleepy Hollow event in the fall! This place is known for their pot pies, however since I've had it before, I wanted to try something else. I ordered the mac n cheese, and my husband ordered the open face roast beef. Both were really delicious and had lots of flavor. And the greens beans that came as the side were soooo awesome!! But no hot cider?? =( The server, though very nice and sweet, was really slow. Not sure if she was new at this job, but she really didn't know how to multi-task. She was jogging/skipping thru the place in a hurry the whole time, but not getting much done. Lol She didn't check on us thru the meal, which was ok since we were happy, but even after the meal, we had to ask another sever for our check. She said it was being printed. Our original sever came to our table without the check, so we asked for it again and also a box for the leftovers. We got both, in two different trips. Then a 3rd trip back to bring my card back. LOL We wanted to order an apple pie to take home, but the server couldn't help us with that. She wasn't sure what pies they had on hand, didn't offer to find out- just that she only saw one kind being made and it wasn't the one we wantes. So we checked out, went outside to the bakery window and order a 3lb Dutch Apple pie (the one we wanted)...fabulous!! It's good every time! We will return again for some good eats. From the dining room with no electricity, to the live old band playing colonial tunes, to the colonial period dress, you're going to be a part of an in-person time travel. The food is good, and I hope you like apples. There's a lot of apples in the food, and some are served with apple sauce. I guess being on an apple farm, you have to use what you got. They even serve spiced, regular, and hard apple cider. The staff are very friendly and I may be getting older, because they seem quite young... like late teens to early twenties. But they make you feel welcomed and can tell you a bit about the colonial period. They have a lot of parking on their farm, so you don't have to park on the street if you don't want to. I have been to Riley's farm before and never noticed this little restaurant! Thank goodness I did this time! Love the atmosphere takes you way back...the dark , wood, tavern feel is welcoming. We were there are on Friday afternoon and there was live music which was very nice and not too loud. We ordered the pot pie, corn chowder in a bread bowl and the pear and green salad. We were welcomed to our take with a basket of delicious house made bread. We tried the fresh press apple cider which was wonderful and crisp. Loved the use of the steel mugs, kept everything so cold! Although they are a little heavy for little ones to use on their own. Back to the most important part....the food! The corn chowder was very tasty as was the sourdough bowl. Could have used more potato's in it but its still tasty. The salad had all the right favors and the lettuce was fresh and crisp. The pot pie was not overly salted with a nice flaky crust, served was perfectly seasoned and cooked green beans. Service was lack luster. We had to keep asking for refills and sometimes they forgot. First, the service was good, especially for the number of people in our group. The ambiance was a lot of fun too. You feel like you've been taken back in time. Finally the food. It was very good. My wife and I decided to give this little restaurant a try and were happily surprised! Our server was very sweet and we enjoyed the drafty colonial ambiance. There was live music and we were fortunate enough to be placed in front of the warm fireplace. Our meal started with the spinach and artichoke dip which was good (not great). It was a little watery but the flavor was very good as were the apples and bread served with it. The entrees were excellent! My wife really enjoyed her mac n' cheese and my chicken pot pie was the best I've ever had! The pastry was buttery and flaky with a very wholesome, fresh and flavorful filling. We did a family day at Riley's Farm in Oak Glen last fall, and decided to do it again this year. We were pretty hungry when we arrived and saw this great restaurant right on the property. As we walked by the windows, the food inside looked great! We had our dog with us so we couldn't go in, but they have a window where you can order food and eat outside. The woman working was very friendly and helpful, and even brought out a cup of water for our dog without us even having to ask. So nice! She brought out our food moments later and it was very good. A little dark and ominous on a cloudy day though which was our first experience. The sausage and apples appetizer was a surprise winner. It's a must try if you're a fan of sweet and savory. CHICKEN POT PIE. Great flavor and ridiculous crust. The open-faced roast beef was pretty tasty, too. Oh and you get a ginormous pile of green beans as your side. Came up on a cool weekday at the start of apple season to have lunch. Not too crowded - even though there were plenty of available tables it took about 10 mins to get us seated (just two of us). Once seated things rolled along nicely, we both had hot tea and I appreciated the pitcher of hot water. We both ordered chicken pot pie and it was piping hot and yummy. It came with a huge serving of fresh garlic string beans and a little side of apple sauce. Warm bread and butter was served when we sat down. We were seated in the middle of the room - our table lit with a candle, I would ask for a window table next time to provide us with more lighting. There was only one other family in there and it looked like their waitress was taking forever just to attend them, let alone us. The hostess kept looking down at the seating chart as if trying to figure out where she was going to sit us when the place was empty! After the wait they finally sat us down. However, it took another good 10 mins for the waitress to come to our table and ask what we wanted to drink. After finally getting our drinks we sat there another 15 min waiting for the waitress to come ask for our order. When she finally did decide to come, they tell us that they almost have run out of most of their food for the day! We only had a limited choice of plates to chose from. Luckily the ham I ordered was pretty good, along with my sides. Though the food was good, I do not think I will ever go back due to the lack of good service and customer friendly waitress/hostess. Following a nice first visit with glowing review, I find myself back to retract. We visited as a group of four on a dreary day that seemed perfect for a warm cozy dining experience. I have no complaints about the friendliness of service; however albeit a little slow. We all ordered open faced roast beef and the plates were covered with more green beans than the actual entrée we ordered. As long as it took for the food to come out, you'd think it would've been piping hot. It was actually the opposite - room temperature throughout. Also, we ordered the Stilton Cheese appetizer (which we've had before and it was good previously) and this time the apples were horribly mealy. Almost like they were the worst of the bunch and sliced/served to us. I have no words for this visit. It was all terrible besides the friendly service from the waitress. So disappointing. There is simply no value in the price paid for the meals vs quality. The big finale was taking a slice of pie home (supposedly enough for two people and price says so too). They packed it up and bagged it before we ever saw it. Once we were home and ready to dive in with two forks, we noticed the VERY petite sliver of their supposed Apple pie wrapped in what looked like a nacho boat in a piece of plastic sleeve. Eating at The Hawk's Head Public House at Riley's Farm is an experience. The staff is all dressed in colonial garb and the decor and ambience follows suit. It's wonderful. I especially loved their signature pewter mugs that keep your drinks ICE COLD! My wife ordered the chicken pot pie and I had the Forfar Bridies and they were delicious! For a great price too! Excellent value. The one place they could significantly improve is the kid's menu. Luckily, my son loves hot dogs (which I'm not thrilled about), so we were ok... but the kid's menu was literally a hot dog, grilled cheese or one other thing I can't remember that wasn't much healthier. The apple sauce which we ALL got was unbelievable and the garlic green beans my wife and I both had were also fantastic. The other great thing about this place is that you can explore the grounds, where they have different colonial buildings. On weekends and special days they also offer games and crafts for the kids! Everything from archery to tomahawk throwing! We had a very good time and would absolutely go back! I hope they're open during Christmas time as I'd LOVE to see how they decorate!!! read more

This review is only for the chicken pot pie, since this is the only thing I ordered from the restaurant when I visited today, due to having brought a puppy and arriving after 12 (which meant the wait to be seated was over an hour long!). I ordered two chicken pot pies from the restaurant, after having tried ordering it at the barn where the Civil War re-enactment was taking place and at the bakery attached to the restaurant (but both had run out of them). It took them over an hour to have my pies ready, but they were really good, and considering we were in no particular hurry, we were fine with it. This was my first time having this item, and I really enjoyed it. If we come back again, we will make sure to get there early enough to avoid the excessive waiting and crowds. read more

We were told it would be a 50 min wait for a table but it was an hour and a half and by the time we got a table, it was a two hour wait for people just putting their name in. But we went apple picking and walked the grounds while we waited. People were picknicking on the grass with their take-out food window. The food was delicious! Worth the wait. Got the pot pie, mac and cheese and Sheppard's pie. The green beans were garlicky and perfectly cooked. I got a cold apple code. We ordered the 5-mile pie to go. Can't wait to get home and eat it. Then, once we did sit down we were seated in s corner, where no wait Staff could see us? It took forever to get waited on, didn't get drink refills, we would have also purchased dessert if it hadn't taken so long! Our server just told us he was so swamped! But, the tables weren't even full, and apparently this restaurant is used to busyness. I don't know...my husband and I kept looking at eachother like we were in the twilight zone! The plus side: the food was good! Pot pie and the Forfire Bridie (like a beef empanada) were very good. And, our server after we got the bill, said he felt very bad and gave us a piece of pie to go. This restaurant is phenomenal. Not only are you transported back into time, but the food is of the best quality around! Everything is farm fresh. Literally straight off the farm. Hubby was going to order the hamburger steak but it wasn't available. That is because they hadn't butchered their cow yet. They said mid November it should be ready. Food was super flavorful. Very affordable. This will be a new birthday tradition for our family and I really can't wait to go back!!! read more
