I have been working with them for years maintaining my home furnace and my koi pond heater. My pond heater went down a few months back and they sent a tech out that was lost and then they sent Kevin out. I watched Kevin messing around with the tankless hot water heater (which is part of the system) and saw him shorting the control board. I chose not to question that when he came and told me it was bad. I told him it would probably be cheaper to buy a new unit than buy the parts. I asked if I bought the new unit and if they could replace it. That's not a problem was the answer I received. Keep in mind that they had done this exact same thing a few years back, replacing a unit that I had bought. So I ordered the unit, made an appointment with them, and they sent me a work order confirming. The work order even says "Customer has received new instant hot water heater and needs to have it installed." I took the day off from work and an hour before they were supposed to arrive, I get a call from Kevin saying they could not install anything I didn't purchase from them. I asked why they didn't tell me this 3 weeks ago when I talked to them. All he said was it was their policy now. Next, I called the office and the receptionist just said "Yes that is our policy." I communicated that I had taken the day off from work just to be there for them, and the reply I received was "Oh well..it's not happening today." I've used them for years and they managed to lose a customer and referrals in a matter of 5 minutes. I highly recommend that you make another phone call and not use Heating Specialists. read more

I was very impressed with John who came out and diagnosed my furnace and heat pump problem that I've been dealing with for 2 years. He found that I needed an outside temperature sensor on the heat pump to let the thermostat know when to disable the heat pump and use the furnace's emergency heat strips in very cold temperatures so the system would work more efficiently. This sensor should have been included when it was installed by another company in the first place! My husband and I pulled the plug and finally got A/C. Daniel at the company came over and gave us a quote back in July 2016. the summer was almost over, so we decided to hold tight and wait till 2017 spring to get A/C. When we were ready I called and talked with Daniel again, he remembered us. He did have to give a new quote because their prices went up. We got a Lennox EL16XC1 series, 3 ton air conditioner for our 2045 sq foot house in total for 6K. It depended on your square footage and the model unit you wanted and how it would be installed based on your house and what was already there. Also the total includes the taxes here in WA and also the 1k we paid to the electrical install, which was a separate company. Daniel scheduled and took care of everything related to the electrical company. They just would show up and we would pay them separately. We were okay with the quote going up because Daniel was so friendly to work with and nice. We wanted to go with a company we could trust, like and work well with, which means more to us then getting something at a cheap price. Customer service goes a long way. We ended up getting our form of payment together (credit card at 0% for 12 months through our credit union). Daniel did say they had an option for us, but it sounded like it wouldn't be as good as the deal we would get with our CC. They required 1/2 payment before scheduling and then 1/2 after they completed. They got us in within 5 days after paying. The electrician came first and gathered all the details of what he would need based on where the A/C was going to be and also based on our house. He left and then the heating specialist team arrived 8:15am and worked away. The 2 men were kind (Morgan and Damien or something, sorry if that name is wrong ). They explained what they would do, and got to work. I work from home and they didn't disturb me or get in my way. They were respectful and quick. By 1:30pm they were finished. They went over all the details and what I should look for and be hearing with the A/C. They didn't do a A/C test as the electrical was still being completed. They had to go to another job site, which was fine. They said call if things sound off, but assured me things would work great and the thermostat was all set. And everything did go SWIMMINGLY. The Electrical group was also very good and nice. They put in a new electrical outlet by the A/C unit as they said it was required by code to be within 25 feet or so from the unit. So we have one now on the side of our house which is also nice if we need it. They finished up and were all set. And I turned on the A/C with no problems. COLD AIR FREEDOM!!!! This group overall was so great as a company and I can't say enough good things about them. They keep all the paperwork for you in their offices (warrenty and servicing, etc. about your unit). They also mentioned having a plan we could sign up for, for servicing our A/C unit and heat. We will be doing that before Fall! Thank you to your team! I highly recommend using them. read more

I don't typically like to leave negative reviews but I feel that my experience with this company deserves to be shared so that consumers can make an informed decision. My newer air conditioning unit decided to stop working in the midst of an early season heat wave. I work long hours and have animals at home. I needed to get someone out to service my system sooner rather than later. I called multiple companies in the area to schedule an appointment but most were booked out a week or more. The company I used to install my new system couldn't make it out soon enough but recommended The Heating Specialist. I had never heard of this company before but wanted someone who was authorized to work on my brand of equipment in case it was a warranty issue. They were able to come out in two days and said they were authorized to do warranty work on my brand of air conditioner. I thought "Great" and scheduled the appointment. To my surprise they requested a credit card number and charged my account for the diagnostic fee ($210.80) before even setting foot on my property. This was different than any other company I had spoke to but I was desperate and decided to go ahead and proceed with the appointment. On the morning of the appointment Kevin called to confirm and let me know he was on his way. I told him that I have a newer system and that the fans seem to be operating properly but the compressor doesn't seem to be kicking on as it's blowing warm air inside the house and the refrigerant lines are not getting cold. Based on what I've been told by industry professionals and doing my own research the capacitor was the likely culprit. This is a $20 part and easily accessed behind a panel on the air conditioning unit. Kevin thanked me for the information and said he should be able to figure it out when he gets there. Being that my equipment is still under factory warranty I decided to let the professionals handle it instead of trying to repair it myself. When Kevin arrived he noted all the same symptoms I described to him on the phone, cut power to the air conditioner and replaced the capacitor. He then powered the system up and "boom" the air conditioner worked! This all took place in the span of about 10 minutes. I was relieved that it was such an easy fix. Next came the even better news: the "repair" would be a charge of $225. This is in addition to the $210.80 for diagnosing the problem. What?! That would make $435.80 for 10 minutes of work. In fact Kevin spent more time sitting in his van writing up my bill than it took to actually repair my air conditioner. I asked Kevin if this repair charge would be covered under my factory warranty. He said that capacitors typically aren't covered but he would check with his billing department and left. I later called their office to inquire about the warranty. The woman I spoke to on the phone said that capacitors aren't covered under warranty and that none of the labor is covered since my system is more than a year old. Wonderful. I couldn't help but think that $435.80 was a bit much for such a simple repair involving a low cost part. I decided to call multiple local companies and look up the average cost of a similar repair to a system like mine. The national average for a repair like this is $170 with the part costing between $9 and $40. All of the companies I contacted charge much less for their diagnostic service ($104 average) and even waive the charge if the customer chooses to have the repair done with them. None of the companies I spoke to charged the diagnostic fee until the service or repair is complete. Realizing that I wasn't out of line in feeling that I was over charged I decided to call the company back and question their billing practice and excessive charges. The woman I spoke to sounded personally offended that I was even questioning my bill. I never got a straight answer from her and the call ended with her saying she would forward my concerns to one of their specialists. I later received a call from Daniel. I voiced my concerns to him and asked for an explanation of such high charges. He proceeded to give me the run around and cited expenses like insurance and travel time and that they are a small family owned business. He wouldn't even give me a straight answer on how much the part they used to fix my air conditioner costs. I try to work things out with the service provider before resorting to things like leaving a negative review. It's very apparent that this company is more concerned with over charging their customers when they are desperate rather than charging a fair price and getting repeat business and referrals. Congratulations on getting my $435.80 but I most definitely won't be using The Heating Specialist again nor would I refer them to any of my friends and coworkers. read more

This is the worst company ever. They came on a service call for our HVAC system, and recommended some upgrades. They called back 3 months later to say they had ordered parts and said they would schedule a time to come out and repair the system. No call, now show. 3 months later when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me they did not want to do the work. They charged for for the initial service call ordered the parts, and they would schedule to to fix it, 6 months pass, and they ghost me. read more

His response was incredibly gracious and demonstrated a remarkable willingness to work with his customers. I definitely have renewed confidence in small business owners, particularly given that this one went out of his way to do the right thing for someone who had an issue. My first contact with this company was great. They came out to fix an issue with my AC and a second time to fix a drip in the pipes connected to the condensaction pump. The work is excellant and I am torn between giving 3 or 4 stars. The work deserves 4+. However, on the first or second visit the service tech was seriously hinting about replacing my 10 year old HVAC system without any reason other than age. I did sign up for a regular maintenance service but kept having anxieties about each visit wondering when they would suggest replacement again. On the third maintenance visit the rep. yelled up from the basement very loudly, rather than coming up to speak to me. And said that I should really replace the furnace. I said I need to think about it and he mentioned that I should make sure I have a good Caron Monoxide detector in the meantime. It felt like I was being pressured and scared into replace my furnace. I was left feeling very uncomfortable about the way he spoke to me. I called another company for a second opinion and they said there was no urgent replacement need. The other company talked to me like a regular human being and left me with a much better feeling and plan to know when it's time for replacement. Needless to say I cancelled by the remainder of my mainentance plan with Heating Specialist and apparently was not entitled to any type of refund for the last remaining visit. They may want to consider some customer service training with the maintenance team. read more

Poor experience removing and replacing an Lennox HVAC unit in the Gresham Oregon area at my parents home. Did not come back to do the correction items as promised. Condensing pad was placed on top of old pad and its out of level. It will move now and the refrigerant lines are going to leak. Condensing unit now blocks electrical outlet. Did not install an air filter bracket and then lied about it. It would have been simple to install a one or two inch filter bracket at the unit when the old one was torn out like everyone else does. It's about a $20 sheet metal part. Now we have to use a ladder to reach to the old sheet metal above blindly, and the filter isn't held fast. Cut my hand on the sharp metal reaching in. Did not run a new condensate drain line as promised. Did not replace condensate pump as promised. Did not verify condensate termination as promised. Quoted an enegy efficient 19 SEER condensing unit but put in lower one, and refused to make corrections, or give a discount. It was a very rushed job by uncaring people. In Summary shoddy/poor workmanship, unkept promises, lies, and I get a sickening feeling every time I think about it, and think about arguing with Daniel who had made excuses and lied, then promised to return to make corrections, but never did. Do not trust this company, especially Daniel. Kept asking for the Owner but every time we said we'd get a call back but it was never from him. read more

I had some difficulty getting advice and starting work with a contractor to replace an aging water heater in a simple hydronic system. I received either misinformation, excessive quotes or faced a genuine lack of interest and follow-up. In the end, two companies were responsive. In the case of the Heating Specialist, I was confident they understood my system- they claimed to have installed it for the original builder. However their quote was excessive. A fixed price quote, I could never get a clear answer on what the approximate labor hours would be and I believe I received misinformation on the scope of the job. After I objected to the lack of detail- they decided to not follow-up further. Fortunately I eventually received two very professional quotes, and was able to successfully move forward. read more

We have lived in our home for 8 years and it was purchased with new forced air heat & AC. We have had some issues and the Heating Specialist team was courteous and professional. They came in a timely manner, fixed the issue and recommended minor fixes to our system. Never tried to up sell on things we didn't need (I vetted through others) and were reasonable and competitive on price. We liked them so much we had them put in an air scrubber and ozone on our furnace. Great product. We had a huge remodel/addition project on our house and they were the sub our contractor used. Called The Heating Specialist because I needed to get my oil burner serviced before the cold weather hits. Made an appointment for today around 1030am. They called and showed early (which is always a plus) and got started. Turns out I needed a new pump for my system. They had it installed and fixed and the pre season service done in a little over an hour. Gotta love service like that. It cost a bit more than a service call, but at least the heat isnt going to go out by surprise during a cold spell. Thanks Heating Specialist and Otto. Definitely recommended for your heating needs. We had a great experience working with The Heating Specialist when replacing our old furnace and A/C. Our salesperson, Daniel presented us with a range of options that would best suit our needs, home size and budget. There was some issues about whether or not we could us our old A/C unit and in the end we opted for a newer energy efficient (quieter) model. They were able to schedule the installation the following week and Daniel was great following up the day before to confirm that they were still on schedule to do the work. Morgan & Chris showed up on time, laid down plastic and drop cloths from my back door down to where the furnace was which I appreciated as I have carpet and the furnace is in a finished basement. They were extremely pleasant and efficient. First explaining what they would be doing (part of the installation was to remove a vent from the chimney and reroute with new PVC pipe for more efficient air intake/out take) and letting me know along the way that everything was going well. After all was in place they walked me through all the important stuff like where the gas shut off valve is, how to use the new thermostat that was part of the package. Their clean up was spotless, couldn't even tell they were there!! Morgan was quick to point out that since it is winter they can't properly test the A/C but that we will get a call from the office When temps get above 65 to schedule a time to come out to fine tune it. They also arrange all the permits and will contact us to schedule the city inspection that is required. The furnace, which is a Lenox EL296V Gas, is so quiet I had to go downstairs to confirm it was on. I never realized how noisy our old one was!!! Can't wait to try the A/C as the old unit was so noisy you could sit out on our patio if it was on. I am very please with the service and would totally recommend them to others. read more

We had a great experience working with them. We got a top of the line heat pump installed along with a high efficiency gas furnace. The sales rep worked well with us in responding promptly to all of my questions over email and gave me a very fair price. Best of all, they were able to accomodate our schedule and get the ball rolling on the project very quicky. The entire install took about a day and ~4 hours the next day. The installer worked very long hours and just got the job done. Basically everything you would want from people who you let into your house. Great business and great people. The radiator system was not tested before they left the job. Part of the system was not working but expected me to address the problem by bleeding the radiator valves. The system required further repairs which were completed quickly and at a cost close to the repair estimate.
