One of the cutest brunch spots ever! I found this via yelp and it did not disappoint at all. I came with a group of five and we sat in this huge dining room surrounded by wine bottles and very cute decor. We got the waffle sandwich, the morning glory, and a grilled cheese with tomato soup. The morning glory was amazing! Tasted just like breakfast with the bacon and ham. Hash brown was light and crunchy. I also tried my friend's tomato soup and that was so good, a perfect blend of creaminess with a hint of sweetness. If you check in on Yelp, you also get the free cranberry bread pudding with bread, berries, and vanilla sauce all over! I normally don't prefer sweets for breakfast but the cranberry bread pudding was so good. Will definitely come here again and try their lunch and dinner menus! read more

Found this place a couple years ago when coordinating a brunch location between San Jose and Sacramento. Loved it so much we've returned every year since to share post-Christmas brunch. With an interesting and varied menu, none of us has had anything we wouldn't order again. The atmosphere is comfortable and service friendly. Wow - SO disappointed! With more than 1500 reviews, a 4.5 star rating is nearly unheard of. I'm just wondering what I missed that so many of those 4 and 5 star raters found. To start, it was freezing cold in there, with all doors, on a cold day, open (not just unlocked, open). Next, the noise level was so high it was uncomfortable. Next, the service sucked. After sitting there for about 15 minutes, I finally got up and went to the counter to ask if we could get a cup of coffee. We did get a bottle of water, but never got any glasses from which to drink the water. Coffee comes. We ask for 1/2 and 1/2. They don't have 1/2 and 1/2, only ersatz dairy creamer. Who in this day and age and especially in the Bay Area doesn't have real 1/2 and 1/2? Oh yeah - 7-11! Additionally, Morton salt/pepper shakers, grape jam in Smucker's plastic servings. I felt like I was in a chain restaurant in the midwest or the south, not the gourmet know-it-all Bay Area. We finally get our order taken. My friend got a flat bread, which was good, although she felt small for the price. I got a scramble that was supposed to come with goat cheese, garlic, onions, tomatoes and a few other things. It had no goat cheese, garlic or onions. I did find one piece of tomato. But it did have green beans, which were not listed as one of the ingredients in it. Had I known it was going to come with green beans, I would have asked for them to be left out as I don't particularly care for green beans. And unfortunately, they were cut into 1/3 inch pieces so I had to pick them out, and being 1/3 of an inch per piece, it was a pretty tedious undertaking. The scramble was tasteless, and because it was so tasteless, I put so much salt on it trying to get some flavor from it that I probably need to take blood pressure meds now! The portion size was, however, large. (Oh great - a LOT of food you don't like - just what I always wanted!) The hash browns clearly were pre-formed slabs. They did, however, cook them as I asked. My friend asked for a bowl of soup. They close at 2:00 and it was 2:07. They told her the soup is made from scratch and the kitchen was closed. Does anyone really believe they make each bowl of soup from scratch? Neither of us did, but she didn't get any soup. All-in-all, a very disappointing experience. Because of the incredible overall ratings, I had been looking so forward to trying this place. But neither I nor my friend will be back. Surely among the worst breakfasts I have in a restaurant anywhere in a very long time. read more

This place is pretty good. Last visit, we got the the brussel sprouts which were pretty tasty. They have some crispy bacon and apples in there. I usually don't eat a lot of brussel sprouts, but these were pretty good. I got a steak that came out super undercooked. I ordered medium, but it came raw. Not rare, but super raw. The staff recooked it until it was slightly overcooked, but it still had a really good taste. My dad got the sea bass on a bed of succotash. I didn't try it, but he said it was awesome. We had a super nice waitress who remembered us from previous visits. She has a cool tattoo from Zelda The Wind Waker. Super cool waitress. Would probably give it 5 stars but will subtract one for poorly cooked steak. read more

Came on a whim after searching for brunch options. Party of 2, we were seated within 5 minutes. Sunny day, they made sure we were comfortable and shaded under umbrellas. Patio seating of course, COVID. I ordered the Greek yogurt bowl and the grilled cheese sandwich. First. I enjoyed the yogurt bowl, it was a large portion. I ate most of the yogurt and all of my toppings. I had some yogurt left but don't enjoy Greek, non-flavored yogurt without toppings so didn't finish the rest. Members of the staff came over to check on us quite frequently and during one of the checks he offered me more toppings for my yogurt!!! Talk about customer service. Second. I never order grilled cheese and on a whim I did. It was amazing. They use several types of cheese and butter the bread with honey. The tomato soup it came with was so light and amazing. came here for lunch since there was a nice recent news expose on it. brass tacks: Food: 4 stars Ambiance: 2 stars Service: 2 stars meal was a lemon drop, wedge salad & honey fried chicken Total before tip $55 so here's the deal on this place, the foods pretty good maybe some of the best fried chicken i've had, it's up there. the mashed potatoes again awesome and the sautéed kale was good in spite of the addition of dried cranberries which i detest. wedge salad was a notch above as well with cherry tomatoes and balsamic. kudos to the chef. overall i should have taken it to go but the food's never the same togo so. . . we sat outside at a badly leaning table. my drink was sliding. ended up moving to a more stable table being cleaned. the whole outside needs a wash down. it just feels like all the accumulated grease has kind of permeated the space. but the look and feel of the courtyard is nice with a lovely tree for shade. our server was quite slow. i think he was covering multiple areas but it took a while to order and i had to flag a couple different servers for service. lastly, i can respect a restaurant that has an attitude of "take it or leave it". in this case i'll leave it. the music outside was fairly loud, not exactly background music. wouldn't be so bad but it was not mixed. i got subjected to an hr of bruno mars. i asked the waiter if they could mix it up after the 1st 1/2 hr and he was basically like "nah". guess they live bruno mars but if you're not a fan, it's f-ing torture. do 1 and done for me read more

The waiter Jennifer was great and the owner JB was amazing. The rest of the staff worked together to get our food to the table in a timely manner. Now to the food, The brussels sprouts had real thick applewood bacon and fresh crispy apples that were refreshing. The hummus was perfect; great balance of basil and great dried chick pea's on top, could use a couple more pieces of flat bread. The Polenta dish was was fresh and full of flavor. Everything on the hamburger was great but I really did not care for the hamburger bun, it would have been better on a ciabatta bread or something that doesn't get mushy. Bread pudding, best one ever. DEALING WITH THE TIMES I have been to this restaurant numerous times and have always enjoyed the food, wine and service. I came with three friends on a Friday night and had a 5:30 reservation. When we sat down, the food server came over and told us that we needed to leave by 7:00p because they had a reservation for another party. I asked if this was on the Open Table website that I booked this on. The owner came out and politely told us that this was the policy, and yes, it was on Open Table. I checked and could not find this. After we ordered a bottle of wine, the server brought it and knew nothing about the wine and did not know how to open the bottle. Again, had to get Owner/Manager to help her. Ok but when my friend ordered her salad, she said "dressing on the side" and it came out with dressing on the salad. My friend said something and Server again got manager who offered to make another salad but the rest of us were already eating so friend declined the offer. Then, when bill came we asked that Server divide the bill equally among the four of us (something we always do). Again , she did not know how to do this and could not do it. This restaurant is not fast food and the prices are not cheap so the expectations are appropriate that service and food meet the standard. After all of this the Owner/Manager did not offer any compensation for all the mistakes that were made and it produced in me no desire to return.. I only hope that they resurrect the great restaurant that they once were in the past. It is difficult to get help these days but when you do hire folks, please train them about service, wine, etc before letting them wait on people. read more

Had Easter brunch here. Big mistake. It was horrid. Way too much biscuit and not enough gravy for the biscuits and gravy serving. And they had no hash browns (who doesn't serve hash browns for breakfast); so they served tater tots...they were cold. Finally after specifying that I wanted Maple syrup, they served my waffle with some phony artificial syrup; it was not maple. And I also specified butter to go on it; I got no butter with the waffle. The only good thing Easter morning at the Hideout was the Bloody Mary. It was excellent...very tasty and just enough spice to give it full flavor. I would have ordered a second, but I was driving that day. read more

OMG - Sunday Dinner was the greatest, salads - I had the wedge salad dressing and topping were so good, my wife had the Lafayette salad was also great. Then the entree Honey Fried Chicken (no bones) wonderful flavor and taste was as good, and Blackened Salmon which was cooked perfectly sitting on a bed of brown rice & quinoa pilaf with vegetables & mushrooms. Both entrees were also served with vegetables. The portions very much like eating at my Italian Mother-law. Our server and all the other employee were so friendly and made us feel as if we were at home. We really loved the place. I had really high expectations of this place after seeing so many great reviews. Overall, I'm glad I tried this place, but I don't think it will be my go to spot for chicken and waffles. The presentation was great, but I think the food lacked a little flavor. The chicken fried steak and waffle was unique but I think I would've liked chicken breast instead. The portions were really great, you got so much for $13! The atmosphere of this place was great! It was a hybrid of indoor and outdoor, a little small but really cute. I would recommend to come early in the morning so you don't have to wait too long for a table. The service was awesome, our waitress was really nice and gave us recommendations on how to eat the sandwich.
