The most amazing dinner - such an experience! Set course but tailored to my allergies (GF, soy free, dairy free). Absolutely delicious and amazing. We never knew this place existed but it is a must try. Truly exceptional. What a hidden gem!

Excellent food and service! Have been wanting to dine here and it was my 30th so my husband made the reservation. The food was unique and I was excited for everything to come out. As good as it was, I'm not sure if the price per person was that worth it for what it was but that's just my opinion. Service was excellent and they do put a lot of thought and consideration into everything

Came her for my wife's birthday last night and had a wonderful time. When it comes to the service, this place is a 10/10. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, and provided excellent service across the board. I am also truly appreciative that the owner was able to make some last minute accommodations for us. If you're looking for a fine dining experience in Orange where you'll experience excellent service, then look no further. The restaurant is in a beautiful house in Orange, with tables on all 3 levels (the cellar for larger groups, the main floor for most smaller parties, and the top floor for private groups). Each floor had a different vibe, and you can explore a bit during the intermission part of the meal. I loved how the restaurant looked, and the vibe was unique and upscale. For the food, you get a 6 course meal, plus a French sandwich appetizer during the cocktail hour. The sandwich was like a ham & cheese croissant and was tasty, with the rest of the meal as follows: Amuse Bouche: 2/3 of the bites were delicious, the salmon puff was a bit strong and would've benefited from being smoked. Scallop Agnolotti: Delicious, really fresh and the textures were great. Quail: The quail was delicious, but the stuffing was very mealy which kinda killed the dish. Filet Mignon: Delicious, one of my favorite non-wood fire grilled steak preparations I've had. Everything was on point. Chocolate Seifreddo: SO good, I wish I had more room to finish this. We also got some wines throughout the night, with everything pairing well. Overall this was a really great time with a few small missteps on the food front that prevent me from giving this a full 5 stars (this was a 4.5/5 experience for sure). I'd absolutely come back when they change their menu again to experience this with a larger group, and highly recommend it for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion.

I booked this place about a month in advance for my husbands birthday dinner. They called me back a few weeks later to go over the reservation and dietary restrictions. I recommend arriving an hour early to give yourself enough time to enjoy the cocktail hour in the wine cellar basement. They served drinks and appetizers which were delicious. When dinner started we were escorted back upstairs. The service was very organized and efficient. The servers are knowledgeable and nice. The dishes were interesting, however the fish main course was not good at all. It's was super bland and boring. My husbands steak on the other hand was delicious. It's disappointing when the main course was the worst, but if I had gotten the steak I would give this place 5 stars.

Ambiance and service was phenomenal. Definitely a place for a date night or special occasion. For me the food was okay. The main course (filet mignon) was cooked very well but felt like it was over salted. Even the broccoli was as well :( Sea bass however was cooked very well (my wife's selection). Even the skin was perfect. This dish had a good balance of veggies too, making it feel like a lighter meal. The three bites were also okay. Wish it had a little less cream cheese as I felt it over powered everything.

Our first time here 2018 was amazing, the second time we went in April 2025 was just as good. 3 hour dinner with 6 course will sure fill you up. The portions are not a lot but with all the courses you will be full at the end. The food was delicious and unique. I still prefer the Hobbit though pre-pandemic. The hors deouvres in the basement had a lot of selection pre-pandemic. Last year, not so much.

I took my mom here for Mother's day. This is a fine dining restaurant with one seating a night. It's quieter and elegant inside. The menu is a tasting menu where you have a choice with the entree. We also had the wine pairing, which was the best part to me. It started with 3 amuse bouche tastes. They were fine and were served with house champagne. The first course was called "lobster agnolotti", though I didn't taste lobster. It was tossed in a pea tendril pesto, which was much lighter than any pesto. It was served with a lovely Italian white wine i'd never heard of: I Frati Laguna. well paired. The second course was pork tenderloin served on polenta. The polenta was heavenly. The pork was a tad dry, with a fruit compote. The pinot noir it was served with was great: Failla. We both had the Beef Wellington, partially because I wanted the big red wine I knew it would be paired with: 2018 Long Meadow Ranch. It was the best Wellington I've had and the wine did not disappoint. The dessert was a deconstructed carrot cake that was fine. The Australian Muscadelle it was paired with was interesting. The service was perfect really. The food and wine descriptions were great. Water glasses were watched and filled promptly. Plates were cleared promptly. It was an old school dining experience that I knew my mom would love. She did.

We had another amazing dinner at the Hobbit! We came to celebrate my wife's birthday and they did not disappoint. Their service is always excellent, staff is friendly and extremely accommodating. It is like attending a good friend's amazing dinner party! For first timers, get there up to an hour before dinner service and enjoy a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres in the cellar, where you can mingle with the other guests. They'll have a list of suggested house, cocktails, but they do have a full bar and will make you most common cocktails off menu. Our bartenders were outstanding! Food was amazing and flavorful! Each course was on point! If you like wine, I strongly recommend the wine pairing for an elevated experience! We have taken advantage of the pairing a few times and have never been disappointed. This is the first time we have been back to the restaurant since it changed ownership. The new owners are doing a great job of holding on to the traditional Hobbit dining experience, but making it fresh and their own. My only criticism is it seems to be a little bit tighter in the dining area, but regardless, an amazing dining experience!

I have been trying to come to this restaurant for 10 years and I finally secured a reservation. We finally came yesterday and had a nice dinner, - we enjoyed the 6 courses, champagne, wine and a cappuccino. Definitely enjoyed the ambiance and I appreciate they have a strict dress code. We were given the opportunity to walk around and meet the chef and have a nice conversation with him. I love the history of the building and the hobbit story and of course the wine cellar, along with the nice patio and additional seating and deck upstairs. Our waitress was "Joelle" who was so sweet and efficient but all the wait staff seemed to do an amazing job making sure we had drinks, food, a clean table and silverware. Everyone was very attentive and friendly and the place was immaculate. I really enjoyed all the food, the salad with the crunch rice and the sorbet (OMG) SO GOOD and of course the Filet was so good cooked to perfection. I also liked how the plating was of course pretty and everything seems so intentional and paired well together. I'm not a duck fan although the duck dish was better than I anticipated. I'm pretty boring with trying new foods but here made me feel more adventurous because the food was so beautiful. I booked this place for my husband who is a MAjOR foodie and he really enjoyed this dinner. I enjoyed the food as well! We will definitely come back as I want to try their spring and summer menus.

If you are looking for an amazing night of delicious food then this is the place to be. Every single dish is an explosion of flavors that takes your pallet on a magical experience. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly walking you through every dish. The ambience is soft and romantic. With soft music and beautiful candle lighting. This is not just a dinner but an entire mind blowing taste bud adventure

This place is so absurdly expensive considering the quantity and quality of the food you get here. The wait staff is excellent, friendly, and attentive (but also doesn't hover over you excessively). That's about the only real good thing I can say about this place though. The portions are tiny, not particularly filling, and way too salty! I have never seen such a ridiculously overpriced restaurant that had so little to offer when it came to actual food quality or quantities. Oh one more nice thing I'll say about it: the venue is nice and interesting, it's like a nice classic-style antique house that's been re-shaped into a small, intimate restaurant. Definitely has a nice, refreshing & classy vibe to it, but when you walk out spending half-a-thousand dollars for only 4 people--you'd expect the food quality to be much better!

You know it's going to be a good dining experience when the bread arrives buttery and delicious!! Dining at The Hobbit in Orange was an unforgettable experience. The tasting menu was thoughtfully designed and expertly prepared. It started with a delicious amuse-bouche, followed by highlights like the Bang Island mussels in saffron broth and the sausage-stuffed quail with a tangy pomegranate glaze and rich brown butter jus. For the main course, the cote de boeuf was cooked to perfection, paired with a creamy root vegetable gratin and flavorful braised red cabbage. The walnut-crusted halibut was also excellent, served with celery root puree and a delicate lobster foam. p (our table's group favorite) Dessert was a decadent chocolate ganache tart with hazelnut praline and toasted meringue. Every bite was memorable, making this meal truly special. Special thanks to Andrew for being awesome and helping take some great photos for our group!

Dinner starts at 7pm but you can come at 6pm to go to the wine cellar area and drink before the meal. $150/per person for dinner Private parking lot Dress code: Men wear dress slacks and a collared shirt that buttons down the front. Most men will wear a jacket and/or a tie. Ladies, dress up, like a fancy Holiday Cocktail party. Not allowed for anyone: Denim jeans, polo shirts, shorts, tennis shoes or flip flops. We came around 6:40pm. We don't drink but wanted to see the cellar. There was no small h'odorves like before. I saw people pictures of small h'odorves being served when you go before 7pm. I guess new management changed and wanted to cut cost. The wine cellar has a lot of different wines. ***FYI: when they serve champagne, it's free *** The seating area is depending on how much is in your group. I liked ours since it was the brightest. We had 4 people in our table and our room is the brightest. The 2 people seats is in another room and is the darkest. There is also seating upstairs and in the wine cellar for bigger groups. We asked why it's called The Hobbit but is loosely translated to The Hobbit from Lord of the Rings. She said it's because hobbits eat 6 times a day and that's why there are 6 servings for dinner. And the closest Easter egg of The Hobbit is the tea box that has the design of Lord of the Rings. There is intermission before the main course. You can get up and see the building and rooms. You can talk to the chef/cook, you can take pictures, walk around, etc. You can go upstairs and see the small upstairs patio. They'll let you know when the main course is about to start. I liked everything they served. Between the main course--beef or halibut.... My boyfriend and I got 1 of each to try it out. I liked both, but the halibut is very unique. It's super buttery. I suggest to try the halibut. The beef is super tender too. So you can't go wrong with either or. The dessert, for me, is way to sweet. The hazelnut praline was too sweet for me. I couldn't even finish it. I got it to go. Service was superb, they would describe all the dishes when it's served to you. They kept refilling our water drinks.

The presentation of the Hamachi crudo salad was like a piece of art - the dish matched the presentation and the yuzu flavor was unique and refreshing. The shrimp macaron starter was very tasty and the green sauce to dip in had a great spicy kick to it. The Spanish garlic shrimp appetizer was a good size portion that we shared. It came out hot and sizzling on the plate - the shrimp was succulent and the tomatoes and garlic pieces were terrific. For the main dish, we split the uni (sea urchin) pasta. The pasta was home made and delicious. I have never had uni before and it was cool to try a unique and novel flavor but this might not be for everyone (it had somewhat of a bitterness that reminded me of the acquired taste of an olive). The sauce was definitely butter heavy and it evened out the strong flavor of the uni - I found the dish was delicious overall but it is pricey so just make sure you're aware and open minded before you order this. For dessert, we split the chocolate cake/soufflé and this one literally took my breath away and had me rolling my eyes into the back of my head. It was made to order so we had to wait for it to bake, but when it came out, the warmth and quality of the melted chocolate inside was exquisite and the proportions of cake to chocolate to ice cream was absolutely perfect (see video). We don't go out to nice fancy/French restaurants very often, and I'm so glad we indulged with this - it ended the evening in a truly special way. Restaurant ambiance was casual but elegant. Our service was fantastic - we don't eat meat or alcohol and our server helped us navigate the menu to find some great options. Overall, we are grateful for a lovely meal and would recommend anyone else to give it a try if you're looking for a unique and flavorful dining experience.

They have a tempting assortment of fresh breads, baguettes, sandwiches, and cheeses. I also like that they have a boulangerie (bread bakery) and bistro in the same plaza. The bistro a few spaces down has some excellent dinner options, but that's technically a different restaurant. I like to come here when I want to select from a broad assortment of French pastries; however it's not my top choice for any specific thing. But it's really nice to come in on a morning for jambon and cheese on a fresh baguette. On this morning, I was able to drink a coffee and eat a salted caramel macaron, while watching a World Cup soccer match. They do everything really nicely, and Moulin is a great place to get a really beautiful dessert that can be a centerpiece on any table

We stopped by here on my birthday for a nice evening dinner. Got there a little before sunset. There's just something magical about eating outside during a sunset, especially at the Orange Plaza. The restaurant has such a cool look and vibe! We started off with the Hamachi crudo, salmon ceviche, and a bowl of clam "chowdah". The crudo was absolutely delicious, highly recommend. The salmon ceviche was really good but a bit heavy on the sauce for me. The clam chowder had whole clams in the shell throughout. That was fun to pick them out! For entrees we got the lean and mean plate with sea bass. It comes with salad and rice, we substituted the rice for black beans. We also got the skirt steak "bulgogi" which was served on top of mushrooms and bok choy with a sweet soy sauce. They accidentally brought out salmon instead of sea bass, but were very apologetic. They brought out a sea bass on the side and comped the entree to make up for it. Great service right there! The salmon and seabass were both delicious and cooked perfectly. The steak was tender and juicy, full of flavor. As a birthday gift they brought out a thai milk tea blondie sundae which was soooo good! Get it if you like sweets. I wish the owners all the best in their future endeavors, they created a great restaurant that many will miss. Thanks to all the servers, hostesses, cooks, and bussers as well for making my birthday dinner so special!

Our group started with their homemade rolls, octopus, ratatouille, and beet salad. All were delicious and we all agreed we would get again. I got the duck breast, as it was recommended by others who had it before. Unfortunately, the duck was tough and chewy, the skin was not crispy (as it was in the past) and over cooked. The figs were tasty, but the duck was disappointing to most of us. Someone had the Scottish salmon and said it was delicious. The steak was also good and cooked perfectly. Our waiter was very kind, and brought us desserts since our duck was not up to par. The chocolate cake and rice pudding were both delicious and I highly recommend either if you crave something sweet. The service was excellent for our large group. I would definitely come back and like to try other items on the menu.

And I truly believe that they are not really made out to be a full-service restaurant as much as I like their dedication and drive. I had a reservation at 7 pm. I checked in at 6:45 pm. At 7:25 pm, they brought us in and did not have a table ready for us. They made a table then after a table left 15 minutes later, they rearranged us. I do not understand why you offer reservations if you will not actually honor the system. Around 8 pm, we asked if we could order as they had only brought water. Listen I understand. You're closing soon. You only had 1 server for the entire restaurant the weekend of Valentines. You have to go lean on the busiest last weekend ..? I don't actually understand. When all came to, they were not offering dessert because "they were saving it for Valentine's Day". No notification about when their kitchen closed and no asks if anybody wanted to order for to-go. On top of that, everyone did not have free parking and had to pay upon exit even with validation. You will do great as a ghost kitchen since the food was good and everyone enjoyed it. If you come back as a full service, I would seriously reconsider how you do business.
