Grown-up Grilled Cheese with Buttercup Squash soup
    Amber D.

Friendly staff, quaint interior, and pretty good food. We had the Grown-up Grilled Cheese, which was really delicious. I also ordered the Butternut Squash soup and that it okay. They had incredibly delicious-looking peanut butter cookies cooling on the counter. Even though they were calling our names loudly, they weren't available for the taking. :-( Just waiting for our bill while loading the photo and writing the review. So the service is a little slow, but manageable if you aren't in a hurry.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a sandwich on a lazy West Bend Sunday afternoon. Sidenote: It is crazy how many WB eateries are completely closed on Sundays. We found Idle Hour on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We got there around 1:30 and the front dining room was empty, there was a baby shower happening in the back room. We were greeted and seated promptly. The decor is old-fashioned and cute, they were appropriately playing Christmas music in early December. For lunch I had a can of pop, a cup of the Noodle Strudel, and the grown-up grilled cheese. I liked the Noodle Strudel, for some reason the combination of pasta and corn really does it for me and sometimes you are just not in the mood for soup. The sandwich was okay, I liked the bread, but it was pretty basic. My boyfriend got the ham and cheese and it was exactly the same sandwich I had, with ham. I liked Idle Hour, as the name suggested, our meal was quaint and relaxing. Next time I'll get a different sandwich and maybe check out their selection of Wisconsin wine.

Happy hour, served 2:00 - 5:00, Monday through Friday, gives you a chance to sample a variety of beers, seltzers, cocktails and Jameson whiskey soaked cherries. For entertainment there is a pool table, darts, video gambling and pull tabs. For convenience, there is a place out back with a designated smoking area. The menu has appetizers, cold sandwiches, kids meals, paninis, pizza, salads and hoagies. Several of the dips/sauces are homemade, and I found the dip served with the chips was especially good. It's the creation of the owners mother, and has a lovely whipped texture with garlic and onion flavor. I had the Rasta Roots salad, and my husband had the Simply Tuna sandwich. The salad was good, with the grilled chicken being served shredded instead of in strips. The jerk ranch had a little kick at the end, and was served on the side. The sandwich was nicely grilled, and the tuna salad was truly "touched with mayonnaise" so the tuna flavor stood out and not the dressing. Service was a little slow, but since we weren't in a huge rush it wasn't an issue. This is a nice, laid back spot with a beautiful brick and wood interior, and plenty of room at the U-shaped bar to socialize and chill.

We sat at the bar, and the bartender was super friendly. The space has a cozy feel, and they also have a little patio in the back if you want to sit outside when the weather is nice. Their specials were great too, and I loved that you can buy a bottle of wine to go. Even better, they keep the white wines cold, which is such a thoughtful touch. We both tried the salad special. I added chicken to mine, and my friend added salmon. I probably should have gone with the salmon because hers was cooked really nicely, while my chicken was a little on the dry side. That said, the salad itself was fresh, and the fruit on it tasted really good. They also had a nice beer selection with solid options on tap, so it seems like a good place whether you're stopping in for lunch, a drink, or something casual after work. Overall, friendly service, quick food, and a cute little spot I'd come back to.

This is usually a good sign in my book. After being pleasantly greeted after walking in, I saw a lot of the wait staff and the bartenders like busy bees.... All of them seemed to be in a happy mood. We were ushered to our table in the large dining area. Pictures posted by others were accurate. Several larger groups of 8+ were around and the room was a buzz of chatter.... Not too loud, just right. Our server Nicole gave us some time to read thru the menus and we ordered after a bit. Since it was Friday night, we chose the fish fry, my wife the beer battered cod, myself the peach. While we waiting we enjoyed view out the large glass windows that overlooked the lake and saw the pontoon boat launch and return with guests, the free ride around the lake with Captain Max (who by the way had some great stories to share on our trip, a couple seemed pretty fishy). Our dinner arrived what seemed like eternity, however being patient was rewarding.... Both selections of fish were awesome... some of the best beer battered cod and perch we've had across a dozen counties. Guys, it's worth it. All around the staff was great, the view during diner was excellent, and the boat ride was like icing on the famous carrot cake they serve.... My only downgrade on the experience was the very long wait for dinner. It turned out to be well worth it, however for fried fish, well beyond my expectations on time. Now.... It's your turn to make a reservation....

The other 17 people had varying choices off the menu but everyone loved their meal. After dinner many had ice cream drinks. I personally had this absolutely incredible chocolate cake that was made in house by the owner and i savored every bite. I have to say that they had some great appetizers on the menu including deviled eggs. An appetizer i don't see often but really enjoy. Personally im already looking forward to going back! I rated 5 stars but i would give them more if yelp would let me! I wish i had remembered to take pictures of the food or the view of the lake. I guess i was distracted by the 17 other family i was with. Next time i go i promise pictures!

We stopped in on a Saturday for brunch and had a wonderful experience. You order/pay at the counter and staff brings you your food/beverages. There was an error on my meal and the staff were super quick to correct and offer a bakery item on the house, which was so nice and refreshing to see great hospitality without prompt. They have a simple, vegetable forward menu that seems to rotate and focus on seasonal offerings. I had their bloody Mary and eggs Benedict. The bloody Mary was good, yet only had vegetables as accompaniments...I would have loved a meat stick and some cheese. The eggs benedict was yummy, and the side of fruit helped lighten up the meal. The only downside is that they don't have an espresso machine, so no lattes :( Highly recommend if you're looking for a light meal and enjoy a vegetable forward approach!
