It's a nice and clean, small place that was convenient while working around the area. It took a while for someone to come and greet me or ask me what I wanted so when a waiter finally showed up I immediately placed my order to get it as soon as possible. The Mango Lassi is delicious, the Samosas were great too (taken to go) and my main dish and the most popular Chicken Makani was excellent in flavor and spice. The chicken was perfect with no fat or tendons which gross me out. Rice was a bit dry in comparison but I finished it none the less. I moved from NorCal which is the hub of Indian food and have been discontent eating the overpriced and poor quality Indian food in SoCal. I'm happy to say that I've found an amazing spot for Indian food at The India Cafe. The restaurant was clean, the food was delicious and the service was great. The portions are perfect for sharing. We ordered aloo gobhi (my favorite dish here), navratna korma and butter chicken. Everything was piping hot and the man was delicious. The meat wasn't overcooked and was tender. The mango lassi was good. The Taj Beer came with cold glasses and was delicious. Akshay, our server was polite and gave us time to decide what we likes along with good suggestions. Salted Lassie was not their signature drink but like the dishes served eloquently. For the price, I was pleased just not overly so as to suggest to others. This is my favorite Himalayan/Nepalese/Indian place in LA or Orange County. It may look like a hole in the wall but the quality of the food is some of the best I've had. Some of the staff is apparently from Nepal and many of the dishes have the wonderful flavors I tend to associate with Nepalese or Himalayan takes on what we usually call "Indian" cuisine. There's a really great selection of classics here and the portion sizes are great for the price. I usually go for their Makhani or Tika Masala dishes but there's a lot of other great stuff on the menu, including some excellent pakoras and samosas. Also, they make awesome poori (also known as puri or Tibetan bread in some restaurants). Overall good Indian food, friendly staff, and I would come back. Their seems to be different regions of Indian food represented here but I got my normal order and it was good. Only con is the parking is minimal. They do give you the spice level you ask for and provided us with as much rice as we wanted. I ordered from this place through Grubhub while I waited for my car to get tinted. Idk if it was grubhubs fault or the restaurant but in the description it said if it doesn't say it includes rice the it doesnt come with it. Sooo I ordered a side of rice and when it came I got 2 sides of rice. Not to mention they charged $2.95 for the side of rice. Almost $3 for a side of plain white rice?!?!? On top of that the portion of the chicken tikka masala they gave me was super small. The CurryHut I usually go to by my house gives you twice as much for the price. The food was good, don't get me wrong but the price was to much for to little. And they forget to give me a fork also. Luckily the place I was at had one. Have been living in Costa Mesa for the past year and have always driven by the India cafe and decided to try it out. It's my first time trying Indian cuisine and it was amazing and I will be back very soon. I tried the butter chicken and garlic naan the sauce for the chicken is so flavorful and creamy and goes amazing with the garlic naan. Food was the worst I have had in the Huntington Beach area. Chicken vindaloo tasted like it just had Garam masala sprinkled over a basic curry sauce, lacked depth of taste and had a definite raw spice flavour. The chicken was fatty, chewy and lacked any flavour. Aloo gobi was watery, chewy cauliflower and the potatoes had a horrible earthy taste.Naan was flat, stodgy and unlike a naan I've ever had. chicken tikka masala was ok with nice pieces of chicken but again lacking any depth of flavour. This place is well deserved a 5star review! When we entered the restaurant, its clean, very clean! There even isnt any water stain on the utensils! We were greeted by servers and the owner warmly. We got free milk tea, and they taste very fragrant and authentic! The servers were very attentative too! The lamb curry has good flavor and nice quality meat. I am whole heartedly disappointed. I've been looking for a good Indian Restaurant close to Huntington Beach but unfortunately this isn't going to be it. I read other reviews I had hoped were just reviews by picky eaters but they were speaking the truth - the food lacks flavor and heat. I ordered via DoorDash and the food took 15 minutes to get to my place. They took care with the packaging, nothing spilled and the food arrived hot. I was worried the naan was going to be cold but it wasn't. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Biryani, Garlic Naan and a side order of Raita. The menu didn't state that the Biryani comes with a small side of Raita so I was unhappy I spent $3.99 extra for a side of Raita I didn't need. The main thing I am going to say is there was absolutely not one bit of heat to the Biryani and the Chicken Tikka Masala was missing the Garam Masala and chili needed to make the dish taste better than tomato and cream. No need to eat the Raita to help alleviate the burn from the Biryani because there wasn't any. This place could be great if they worked on the flavor and added the heat to the appropriate dishes to truly call this Indian food. Right now, this restaurant is not a place I would order from again. This place deserves 10 ! I use to drive to Corona Delmar for Indian food, Mayur, however, this is my new favorite and is a lot closer. I had food hub deliver aloo gobi, yellow dal tudka, dal soup, garlic naan, and a few other items. The food was delicious ! I would only ask them to place a menu in my to go bag, next time and to change their plastic to-go containers to the cardboard Chinese containers because these are to flimsy. Favorite Indian place in OC. I come here usually once a week since I discovered this place a couple months ago. The lady that owns is the place is super nice and always treats me well when I visit. I get the chicken tiki masala every time with garlic naan. I order the masala spicy and it comes out super flavorful and full of spices and always really fresh. Rice is always cooked perfectly. We planned to visit here after seeing the Hot and New status. Not many new Indian Restaurants pop up in OC. We were the only ones there. Service was really good. We were given complimentary chais and the waiter even asked if we had any requests for Indian songs that was playing in the background. Teas were fine. We got a veggie wrap, a chicken briyani and a veggie briyani. The wrap was good, good amount of filling, sauces and wrapped in a soft naan. The veggie briyani had too much of garam masala and we ended up replacing that with a paneer tikka masala which was OK. Chicken briyani had too much of spices in them and I had to remove a small piece of clove or cardamom in each bite. This was also just OK. I believe they have just started and will improve based on feedback. Since my expectations for Indian food is really high, I am giving only 3 stars for now. read more
