We decided to walk-in to The Island Hideaway on the humble. No reservations were available, but we figured we could try the bar. We got it, and the hostess fit us in within minutes. Our waitress, Sofia, was slammed, but a very kind, arm-sleeved, tattooed waitress stepped in to assist when needed. Thanks friend! We appreciate you. We were pleased with the homemade salad dressing (ranch & balsamic.) The crab cakes were good. The fries were amazing. My husband asked for a medium steak, but it was well done. He kept it because it was seasoned well and tender. The sangria was also good just not strong. Almost forgot the best part....Due to my husband's clumsiness, he dropped his crab cake on the ground, and they quickly offered another at no charge. The views were phenomenal. While in the area, my family and I stopped by The Island Hideaway for lunch. The front parking lot was all gravel so I recommend you park on the main road and walk if that's not your thing. After calling ahead to check, there wasn't much of a wait and we were seated around 12:30pm on a Saturday. Although for our larger group of six, they seated us outside on picnic tables. It was quite toasty and half of us had to sit in the sun. The view of the dock and close proximity of the water helped to make up for it though. We had started with a few drinks and a crab dip. The crab dip was fairly decent and was accompanied by pretzel logs. For my main, I had gotten the fish of the day. You get to pick the style in which you'd like it prepared. I had gotten mine coconut crusted and it you could really taste the coconut. It had also come with an apricot jam to dip. The combination of the two was just right. For my sides I had chosen 'skratch' corn and skinny fries. Both were also fairly decent, but nothing to write home about. The apricot jam went great with the fries and my table asked for more. Overall, I had enjoyed my time here. The waitstaff was kind and the atmosphere was fitting for a seafood lunch. read more

A group of friends and I had lunch at Island Hideaway. I had fantastic flounder stuffed with crabmeat and accompanied by delicious wild rice and asparagus. The blueberry Mojito was excellent and the chocolate peanut butter pie was too die for. Charlie, our waiter, was amazing - friendly, helpful, and solicitous. I would have given the restaurant 5 stars, but there were no labeled gluten free items and almond milk was not available. read more

My favorite meal of the trip! We started with the crab dip (10/10). The pretzels breadsticks complimented the dip very well. My son and I both had the seafood cannelloni with a mix of marinara & Alfredo sauce. DELISH! Our table also had the crab cake dinner which was very good as well....Good flavor. We really enjoyed the vibe of this restaurant. We sat outside with a view of the marina. Upbeat vibey music helped make for an overall wonderful experience. A very enjoyable experience here. It was a little odd that they couldn't seat us when we arrived 15 minutes early because they didn't have any menus available. In a few minutes however they found two and seated us. We ordered a appetizer special of fried green tomatoes and crab. The tomatoes were fried perfectly and the crab and sauce was excellent. My wife ordered the Parmesan crusted Mahi Mahi and enjoyed it very much. I ordered the cut of the day, a filet mignon med well and it came with a compound butter. It was cooked perfectly. The skratch corn side was very tasty. For dessert we had the coffee caramel crème brûlée. We ate all of it. Delicious choice. Our server was excellent and we were served very quickly and pleasantly. The indoor room can be a bit loud but it wasn't unbearable. We would go back here again. read more

This place had the potential to be a five star meal. The ambience was great as we arrived by dinghy and got a table inside overlooking the water. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Both my husband and I got the fish special which sounded great The market price was $27 and change-totally fair. I asked for my salmon rare, but when it arrived it was overcooked and such a small portion. I am not one to EVER complain about portion sizes as I only think you need four or five ounces of fish, but I guess because it was overcooked it shrunk the look of the meal. I got the Caesar salad, which was standard and fine (nothing special) as one of my sides, but then when the fish and asparagus arrived, it just looked paltry on the plate. Just kind of sad. Everything tasted fine and the food was not bad it just didn't measure up to other seafood and fish in the area.. My husband got the mahi mahi with wild rice and asparagus, and said that the fish was very dry. Again, it wasn't necessarily bad just not a great meal. I can cook dry fish at home so it was not a treat going out on this night. I feel like I will give this place another chance next time I am in town, but my overall review is it was fine. read more

My husband and I were passing through the area and stopped around 3:30p on a Thursday for appetizers and cocktails. They have a nice outdoor seating area so we asked to sit outside. The hostess let us know that the outdoor seating area was closed. Geez! She let us know that there was a table by the window, but it had a reservation at 6p so we'd need to be done by then. Well, OK, thanks for letting us know. I'm not sure I was feeling very welcomed at this point. The restaurant was not busy at this time, but was completely full for reservations that night. We shared a bottle of wine and an appetizer dip with pretzel rolls. Service was OK, although I had to track down the waitress to give her my credit card because she was busy looking to purchase margarita glasses online. Okie dokie! read more

Sorry for the delay in posting this review. Drafted it over 6 weeks ago and didn't realize I hadn't posted the review. The Cream of Crab soup was on the thin side, definitely not as thick as most, nor was it loaded with crab meat... BUT it was smooth, velvety and packed with flavor. It was absolutely delicious; in fact the best I've had in this area. I ordered a cheese burger with bacon. The quality of the meat was good but the burger failed to impressed because it lacked even basic seasoning. The French fries were delicious. My granddaughter had sliders and pasta. She said the sliders were okay but didn't enjoy the pasta...too watery in her words. She tried adding salt, pepper and grated parm but nothing helped. Unfortunately I agreed with her. Lastly we ordered the peanut butter dessert which also failed to impress. I'd return for the soup and fries, but would attempt another entree. Traveled out here for a concert at the tiki bar down the street, but the food menu there was limited and out of control expensive. So we decided to go here afterward. There was a group of 4 of us, and we got seated right away. Our server was very attentive, and all of us enjoyed our food quite a bit. I got the filet mignon with scratch corn and rice. There was a ton of compound butter on top of my steak, so i mixed some of it in with my corn and rice. It was wonderful. There was tons of flavor throughout the dish. Food and beverages were delicious. The hamburger is made to order - I ordered it medium rare. The fries are a don't miss and can be done all by themselves. I also tried the veggie lasagna - it was great! Any drink poured by Alex at the bar is a winner. I think anything on the dessert wall is a don't miss. Alex and his staff are very friendly. Food was great. Service was excruciating slow. They said it was because of a broken fryer but based on similar comments from other reviews it looks like a pattern. It's a very laid back vibe so the tables don't turn over that quickly. We had to wait 20-30 min for a table on the patio but I felt it was worth it. The food was excellent. I had the blackened grouper and my friend got the crab cakes..so good. Wasn't super impressed with the corn side. They also have these amazing looking pies for dessert which I spied the table next to us dev. We wanted to watch the sunset on the pier and didn't think we would get out of the restaurant in time so will have to try it at our next visit! 2021 update: food tastes great. Loved the old bay wings and burger. Silver lining is that because capacity is reduced their service is exponentially better. Downside is that there is not as much availability on the patio. Went there on a Tuesday night with 4 people. We shared a crab dip. Three of us woke up with stomach issues. I threw up a couple of times the next day. Nice place in Solomons. Stopped in for a Wednesday night dinner. Sat outside in the lounge area. Hummus was very good. Pita was warm. Syrah wine was very good and reasonably priced. I had the fish tacos with chips. Fiancé had the broiled fish. Both dishes well presented and tasted great. Service was good. Only con was the outdoor area needs to be spruced up a bit. This place definitely is a hideaway with delicious food. I ordered the Solomons Surfer, hideaway fries, and the fish of the day (coconut-crusted mahi mahi) with "skratch" corn and a house salad. The fries were hot and crispy. The drink was smooth and delicious. The mahi-mahi was cooked really well and I liked the citrus-y sauce that came with it. I really enjoyed the crispiness of the crust and the tenderness of the mahi-mahi. Although I wish there wasn't so much corn on the plate - I couldn't finish it all. The server was super sweet and recommended the coffee caramel crème brûlée. It was such a great dessert to end on. It was nice to overlook the marina and watch boats sail by while eating. Delicious! We started with the crab dip and pretzels! It was so good! The only down side is they do not give you enough pretzel sticks (only 3). I had the Caesar salad with the blacked shrimp. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and they were huge! My colleague had the ravioli with the mixed sauces. It was so good but super rich. All of their pastas are made, in house! We then split the lemon blueberry cake. Everything we ate was amazing! The only reason for the four and not five stars is that it was not nit identified well and we had passed it the first time. And then they have gravel leading up to the restaurant and when you are in heels, it can wreak havoc. But the food is definitely 5 out of 5, for sure!!! read more

My coworker and I were given a recommendation to eat here while on a business trip. We came in for lunch, were promptly seated by a very pleasant hostess, and ordered crab cake sandwiches. WOW! These crab cakes were huge and delicious! Afterwards, the chef (and I assume also the owner) came by the table to ask how the food was. It's the personal touches that show customers you really care about their dining experience, so thank you! Overall, the service was top notch, the food was excellent, and the ambiance was great. Great place to eat on the water! They have their own gravel lot with the restaurant all the way in the back by the boat docks. We arrived at around 6pm on a Saturday night in early/mid September. They were able to seat us (2 adults, one kid, and a dog) right away at a picnic table closest to the water. This was perfect for the kid and dog so they wouldn't disturb others. The only negative about the seating were the rocks on the ground. Previous tables' food was caught in the rocks and the dog was trying to eat it. We ended up tying the dock to a post on the dock which worked well. The waiter was friendly and the service was good but could have been even better. For example we had to remind the waiter for more napkins and it took a little while to clear some of the plates. The food was really great. Crab dip with pretzel bread - the dip had a nice flavor with nice pieces of crab meat and the pretzel bread was a perfect complement. Fettuccine with tomato sauce with blackened mahi mahi- the pasta and sauce tasted fresh and homemade while the fish was a nice addition. Ravioli - this was a nice dish as well but was rather small. Kids Mac and cheese - decent size portion and good flavor. They also had a good wine list and nice local brews on tap from Calvert brewery. Had the ocktoberfest and it was a nice complement to the meal. For dessert we shared the key lime pie. This was a nice size and very tasty. There were two bathrooms behind the kitchen bar area and the space gets a bit cramped when the a line forms but otherwise the bathroom was clean. A regular stop living in the area. Last Saturday - Shrimp and Lobster Florentine - clean, crisp and wonderful. Tip incredible view. See the photo of the Lasagna - it has a unique twist - shredded beef. I loved it - the creative modernization on a historic entree. We were roaming around the pier. We were looking for a place to eat lunch. We saw the decor from the street. It seems to be new and trendy. We got a table inside. There is outside seating area where is facing a harbor. It is very nice view. I had a raspberry sangaria. It was very refreshing. Our kids had Mom's Mac and cheese. It was one of the best MAc and Cheese that I had. I love the Swiss cheese that was used with. Chicken fingers was also tender. I had blacken fish. I loved the seasoning.
