Time for an update on this Solomon's Island restaurant. My advice is don't go on a weekend. They're extremely crowded and don't take reservations until after 7 p.m. . The kitchen is very small and they just can't keep up with the crowds. Service we received on our latest visit was excellent. There were four of us and we had a mix of different entrees as well as the crab dip appetizer and the key lime pie dessert. Three of our party liked their entrees, which were the mahi-mahi, the fettuccine and the grouper. The coconut lemon chicken was a real disappointment and was just overwhelmed with a lemon juice taste. Most of the entrees are fairly pricey approaching the $30 range. The key lime pie was fairly sour and not something I would order again. One of the most disappointing parts of the evening was when I watched the bartender wipe off all the bar stools where large, sweaty people had just been sitting, and then use the same towel to wipe off the bar countertop. Gross. I'll never sit at that bar again. My rating scale is three stars for restaurants to which I would return, four stars for restaurants at which I would like to be a regular, and five stars for restaurants to which I would drive out of my way. We are here from Arizona visiting our cousins who have a house in St. Leonard. We, of course, want to eat all the crab possible with the best views we can find, and this place fit the bill! Our waitress, Summer, gave us excellent recommendations, and took great care of us once we ordered everything she suggested. We ordered: Crab dip - um...yum. So delicious, and anytime there is more dip than there is of the thing you're dipping into it (pretzel bites in this case), I am IN. Crab cake sandwich - I didn't taste this, but my cousin said it had a great, slightly breaded outer shell that kept it together and kept the flavor inside. (He said the flavor was really great, BTW.) Seafood canneloni - wow. We got the combo sauce and it was SO GOOD. There was lots of plump shrimp and sweet crab inside too! Simply...GOOD! burger - this is a freaking awesome burger. Juicy and perfectly cooked, we got ours with gouda, bacon, and grilled onions. OMG. My cousin said it just might be his new favorite place in the area. We absolutely have plans to come back for dinner before we leave because I can't go back to Arizona without trying that crab cake. read more

Fantastic location by the water. Service was definitely slow, despite the restaurant not operating at full capacity. However, the atmosphere and the food was for the most part delightful. I would highly recommend the crab dip (probably the best I've ever had) and the lobster bisque. The freshly baked desserts were excellent as well. read more

Bottom Line: Excellent service, delicious homemade food and quaint views. Island Hideaway is a bit tucked away from the road as the name implies. This family owned restaurant is dedicated to a high level of service and quality food and it shows. My fiancée and I really enjoyed sitting on the dog-friendly patio and watching boats come and go. Our waiter was super attentive and out Saturday lunch was delicious. The cream of crab soup had lots of lump crabmeat, the crab cake sandwich was legit and the fish tacos were a bit spicy but loaded with large pieces of fish. Small but decent eatery. Cold inside as it was cold outside. My table (the only one available as others were reserved) was in the path of the draft every time the door was opened. I was with 4 other people. We all enjoyed our meals, but they were on the smaller side compared to where we ate the night before. Sadly, what I wanted (rockfish) only came one way, no modifications, as all of the fish was already prepped the way I didn't want it, as the preparation included bacon and its grease/fat. While it was okay, I would not return because the establishment and its family ownership is proud, as one of them told me that about half of each dish includes bacon. I don't want bacon and fish. I'll start by saying the location is beautiful and I really wanted to love the place. I got there a little after 8pm party of one cause I was on a work trip. I ask the hostess if I can get a table outside. (Half the tables empty) she's tells me they are for reservations and all booked and I could only sit at the bar. About 15 or so min later a couple come and sit at the bar order drinks than as the hostess comes over the couple acknowledged the hostess by name and asked if they could sit outside. Hostess says sure right this way????? Food was good but I felt as if the place accommodated more to locals than anyone out of town. So if your local and know the staff have a great time you'll love it!! But if not Local I'd say try another place! read more

My wife and I stopped for lunch and were greeted by a friendly host. The place has about 12-15 tables, and about 7 of them were occupied. The ambiance was excellent as we had lovely views of the water. I had the Hideaway Burger; it was juicy and flavorful. It came with their delicious skinny fries. My wife had the Crispy Cornflake Chicken Strips, and she loved them. I will defiantly be back enjoy other items on the menu. read more

I started out really loving this place but the last couple times I visited either the food or service was not as good. Recently we visited The Hideaway and we sat next to the very loudest table I either of us had ever encountered in my entire life. It was impossible to carry on a conversation or hear the server because of the volume of the people sitting nearby. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said "we'll you should hear how loud it is in the other room." I guess that was her way of avoiding the situation. and it wasn't loud in the other room! While I understand that the staff can't control the customers totally, these folks ruined a few people's dinners. It might have been nice for the manager to ask the rude customers to tone it down slightly. Also the serving I ordered was listed with entrees (but it was probably just an appetizer) and it was not much food for the price. I left still hungry but feel I paid to be full! I would even hope the staff would offer a free glass of wine or discount. No! We could not leave fast enough. Nope, no desert, thank you! I left with a knot in my stomach and will not return for a while. Very unpleasant experience. We laughed because we had thought about making a tuna sandwich and eating on the deck....it would have been much more pleasant than driving somewhere to leave with a know in the stomach! read more

Returned to the Hideaway after a previous visit a year or so ago, and was just as we remembered, excellent! Very accommodating staff, excellent service, fantastic location, with incredible food. Seafood cannelloni and lobster risotto were both outstanding!!! Island hideaway gets 5 stars all day! read more

The island hideaway continues to be one of our favorite restaurants in SoMD. We come here about once a week, and sometimes more often in the summer as we spend as much time as possible on our boat as they have a pier and are boat accessible. My favorite drink is the French martini but the casa migos margarita and espresso martinis are great as well. The drinks in general are well balanced. For entrees, my husband and I usually get the hideaway tacos or the crabcake. However, they have a lot of great specials throughout the year so we will sometimes deviate from our normal choices. They have a pumpkin ravioli in the fall that I love, so much so I went twice the last time they had it as a weekly special. Earlier in the year they had a Beef Wellington special that my husband still talks about. He is patiently waiting for New Year's week when they have it as a special again. The servers and bartenders are all very friendly. It's a small restaurant that fills up quickly so I recommend making a reservation. read more

Excellent Food, Drink, & View - But.... Don't be expected to be treated well if you come in solo.. Been here a few months ago with my husband & a friend & had excellent treatment, table with water view, and excellent food & drink - the latter same as today. Treating myself on a 'Me-Day" to a very excellent bowl of cream of crab (best in the area & I have tried them all) & same for the orange crush - perfect! However, coming in at 230 in the afternoon, an unseasonably beautiful November day, was hoping to sit outside - where there was more than adequate seating - even for COVID. However, as I was alone - I could not sit outside, nor could I sit at a window table, but instead could choose a stand-alone table in the middle of the dining room - or the bar. Please keep in mind that there was only two other guests - at a window table - inside the restaurant. What's more - I witnessed another solo customer come in & leave because she faces the same options. Now again the food is great - the server very nice - and I will tip very nice as is my nature.. however I will think twice before coming again to Island Hideaway & typically I have a much larger crowd than a single person. My advice - make everyone feel welcome & that they want to come back. Absolutely no improvement needed on food or drink at your lovely restaurant. You do have a lot of competition on the Island though, at which I know solo guests gave much better seating choices - I hope you improve your restrictions, because otherwise you are one of the best here. read more

Rooms very clean, cleaning staff is wonderful, and nice and quiet lodging come night fall and early morning! First visit and it greatly exceeded our expectations. Selected entrees from the specials for the day, Chicken Cordon Bleu and Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein. Both were superbly prepared! My husband and I just left Island Hideaway and we couldn't have been more satisfied with our meals. The homemade pastas are the way to go! I got the Fettucini with Alfredo sauce and added pan-seared shrimp. The pasta was so good and there was the perfect amount of Alfredo sauce - not so much that my pasta was drowning in it. My husband got the Seafood Canneloni with a mixture of the Alfredo and red sauce. He hardly left any on his plate! The homemade salad dressing was also notable. So yum, both the ranch and honey mustard. We also loved that this place was family owned and operated. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, but not annoying. Great location and view of the water and boats. Cute decor. Really excited to discover Solomons Island and this nice restaurant on the water. Ambience was very nice and the service was GREAT! Looks like ample space with others due to social distancing during these times, which was nice. Must try the crab dip! Ordered some cocktails and it almost tasted like they forgot the alcohol. Not very tasty or strong. Dinner was not very good either but editable. Lacked flavor in fish tacos and shrimp tacos. Tacos had tomato and lettuce with some kind of tasteless sauce, they need to add some cabbage instead of lettuce and add a chili for some kick! Rice pilaf was dry and tasteless also. French fries tasted like burnt sticks. I will give this place another try because the dip and service. I will also order some pasta next time since it's in house made. read more
