The joint is always busy so make a reservation to save yourself some time. They have a great outdoor patio that is dog friendly but can be a little tight if your dog does t like to be under the table or really close to it. We ordered the bao bao to share and three rolls and one person had the burger. This was the perfect amount of food. The train wreck was my favorite roll of the three. The bao bao had good flavor but would have loved some more sauce or another piece of pork belly. The burger was very flavorful and cooked to temperature. I've been to The Joint twice in the past month and impressed both times. Ordered the Hangover roll (see photo) and really recommend. Joint roll was just maybe a 4/5z Staff have been friendly, and no wait to get a table (high top, inside both times). Def has that OB vibe- little hippie, maybe a little grungy/dive-y, but everyone is friendly and welcoming. I think $20+/roll is a little high for the area, but not even really anymore. read more

Love this place it is an Ocean Beach staple. My parents live in the area and I crave it from out of town. Would especially recommend happy hour (until 6pm) as this place generally functions as a tapas restaurant. The prices are decent and the food is memorable. The food was incredible and it had a nice vibe. For service, I'd say 4.5. They were great placing our order over the phone when the we let them know we were on our way but cutting it close to kitchen closing time. We really wanted to done someplace healthy and on the fly and they came through for us! They had a table ready for us, but given the seats were high tops, we thought it would be better suited for the elderly person in our party to sit outdoors. Our server accommodated somewhat inconvenienced, but he seemed to turn it around with everyone pitching in to help with the impromptu relocation. Our food came quickly and we all enjoyed the evening out. It was very nice of them to work with us before our arrival and take care of us with smiles even though we closed the place down on a week night. It was a meaningful night for myself and I'm grateful for their accommodations, good food, and that we all had a nice time there. read more

Last Saturday we went to The Joint to have dinner. Sigh...not sure what happened but long story short: I ordered scallops which were literally the size of my thumb nail. It looks like they cut 1 scallop into 5 or 6 small pieces. I love scallops so it's not like I don't know what a scallop looks like and I have never seen scallops so small. My husband ordered sushi and we waited an hour for his dish which we cancelled because I was done with my dish and what was the point of waiting for an hour for his dish. Never again...okay for tourists but as for us...there are better ways to spend our money. read more

Went because kiddo wanted sushi and parents could have great beer choices. Waiter assured me they could make a specified roll w/o the spicy aoli in the description. Either he forgot or the kitchen doesnt take requests. Waiter was nice and appologetic but delivery guy was rude about it: "thats how it comes." I didnt even ask for something else, just asked them to tell anyone in the future that they cant or wont hold the spice for wusses. Will probably give them another chance but only because the tap list was stellar and they played good music; dont expect any menu editing availability despite the higher prices. read more

Mediocre food, absent service. Pricey for what you get. Came here for dinner one night because we thought the concept of having sushi and Mexican food together would be interesting. Unfortunately I think that they didn't do either one extremely well. We ordered a sushi roll and it was absolutely terrible. The rice was cold and hard and the rice ratio was really bad meaning too much rice. The shrimp brochette was also very mediocre at best, the prawns was large but had no flavor. The only thing that I actually somewhat like was the burger which is pretty hard to screw up. Overall the food is mediocre at best. And very pricey. read more

The Joint is supposed to be the go to sushi place in OB.. so I've put up with the awful service for years now. Sitting at the bar is like going to a dive bar and having to hold your card up to get anything. Some of the servers are ok but the attitude every employee has in this place makes it seem like a hostel work environment. The point of going to the joint is to get drunk and eat small bites, and if you're not drunk you won't enjoy it tbh. I just found out Harumama on Voltaire has sushi and it's cheaper, better quality and great service. If your plan is to get sh** faced and go out to dinner, sure the joint might be for you but if you're looking for an enjoyable time out on the town don't put up with this establishment just because it's the "go to place in OB". read more

The wait time for food was understandable as the place was packed and a line formed shortly after I sat down. 4/5 protein roll: chef's selection of proteins wrapped in cucumber 3.5/5 Kahuna of tuna roll: a tad too spicy for me I would give this place another shot to try their tapas when they're not so busy. read more

Started out with a really tasty sour, which I think was raspberry. Actually ended up with multiple, they were really good! The service here was great; everyone was really nice and helpful. My friend and I got the Shishito Peppers to start, which were really flavorful, but nothing special. For dinner we split the Mac n Eel roll and the Fiery Scallops. I really liked the eel roll, although some of the eel pieces were a bit small. The scallop roll was good for the most part. Not their fault, but the jalapeño slices were way too hot, so half a slice was much better so it didn't overpower the whole roll. I only recently started eating sushi and I really did enjoy both rolls I tried here. I would definitely recommend this place (especially if you have dogs as they are allowed outside). read more
