The Joint for me is a combination of a fun neighborhood spot, cheap grubbing food, and fine dining. Fantastic beer, wine, and cocktail selection. It's been our go to spot for the 9 years we've been in SD. The staff are exemplary as well. Deanna is an absolute superstar waitress and bartender among a staff of superstars. She's thoughtful and kind. Highly recommend you give the Joint a whirl if you haven't already and do note they have happy hour specials daily from noon till 6pm. read more

They've got something for everyone here, the variety is much appreciated! My stepdad and I came for sushi, and my mom isn't that big of a fan of sushi, so she had these delicious truffle fries and buffalo wings that we all kept picking at. She was satisfied with her meal as my stepdad and I enjoyed shareable sushi dishes like the Trainwreck, the Rainbow Roll, and the Caterpillar roll. I also had seafood salad to start. Everything was super tasty and the fish was very light and tasted really fresh! The lava cake was smaller than we anticipated, but the fruit consome and super soft ice cream absolutely made up for it. So good! The place has a dimly lit stylish ambiance and I personally thought the ceiling was really neat, lol. Tons to look at in here. Our server Daisy was super nice and was very attentive, always on the look out for water refills. A bit pricy, but would visit again for the quality and variety of food. read more

If you have no idea where to go, this is the place for you because they have EVERYTHING! Happy hour heaven and waiting at those pearly gates is great service and food! Christina is the master at driving the bus to flavor town! She brings the energy, has the best suggestions, and is just great at her job. Ambiance is pretty good whether you're inside or outside. I've mostly had sushi here, but nothing is a miss! Salmon belly and yellowtail belly is my go to along with sake and a beer. Fish is fresh like they walked out to the pier to catch it that morning and delicious which means they probably hugged it before they cooked. One of my absolute favorite sushi spots in all of San Diego! If you come, you have to try my go-to--the Lemon Basil Salmon Roll--it's always fresh, flavorful, and never disappoints. The staff here is fantastic--from the manager to the servers and sushi chefs--but a special shout-out to our server, Justin. He always makes our visits extra special. My sister was able to make a reservation for The Joint on a Sunday during their happy hour (12 - 6 p.m. every day!!!), and our group was seated inside. After reviewing I was messaged by Mike who I believe owns or manages the joint offering me a $50 gift card to make up for my experience. Dirty napkins, warm water, a sticky table, and a waitress who treated us like unwanted guests. Not to mention that the shrimp ceviche came out 20 minutes after the rest of the food and was room temperature and bland. I didn't eat it in fear that I'd get food poisoning. This place was so nice for a girls night out. The ambiance is wonderful for a night out & I liked the dimness of the lights and the decor. The menu has plentiful options for anything you could want, from sushi to burgers. The drink menu is very large too, with many different cocktail options. While I would say this place is slightly expensive, I do believe that the portion sizes fit the prices (at least for what we ordered!). During four nights in Ocean Beach, I dined twice at The Joint. Saturday late afternoon happy hour (12-6 daily) was two tacos and a pineapple express cocktail at the inside bar because the patio tables and street were full of parade watchers waiting for a five pm start. It was crowded, which was to be expected on a Newport Avenue event night, the biggest of the year. I squeezed into a corner spot until something better opened up with more than six inches for my taco plate. I ordered the blackened salmon tacos with pineapple. They were SMALL for $9 but delicious. The pineapple express cocktail was like a martini, strong and sweet. I also tried the margarita, unremarkable. Bartender was slammed but stayed in touch and always made eye contact when he came back to the register to make sure I didn't need anything else. After a long wait for the single bathroom in the back, I made my way out to the parade route and fought the crowds. My second visit was a Tuesday afternoon, for sushi. I tried the REAL crab California Roll $14 not on happy hour but AMAZING flavor. I am so glad I tried it, because I don't think I have ever had a Cali made without surimi. I also ordered a salmon skin hand roll, extra crispy. It was loaded with meat, and tightly rolled to contain all the goodies till the last bite. Hot sake washed it all down. My server was chatty and helpful, knew all about Ocean Beach. Two good experiences, so it's nice to know I will keep The Joint on my list for future visits! read more

Cozy spot to enjoy delicious sushi in OB, on Newport ave! They have an indoor and outdoor seating with a bunch of heaters. The manager is really nice and always checks in however the service is really slow!! They are very nice about it though and acknowledge it. There's a lot of parking around the corner it is a crowded spot in general so the spots might all be filled up. The Fiery Scallops were my favorite!! It really is spicy so watch out! The Rasta roll was pretty good too it has a sweet and sour kick to it! The mixed tempura is delicious however, they didn't put any shrimp in ours but gave us a complimentary one for that mistake. read more
