Came here for lunch one afternoon and the bar was packed with men sucking down beers at the bar. The beer list is longer than I expected, with draught, domestic and a surprisingly detailed craft beer list. We stuck to the domestics, but mostly because we had to show to show up at work in an hour without actually looking happy to be back. The menu for lunch is okay: Chicken wraps, grilled cheese, burger, onion rings, fries, standard pub food. I had the chicken wrap, which was better than I expected it to be. Fresh lettuce, thick tomato chunks (not just seeds and juice and not dried out) and a chipotle sauce with just the right kick. The fries are thick cut and not too mushy nor too crisp. My friend had the grilled cheese. It looked a little bland, but what else would you expect in a pub that is more focused on the patron's beer consumption than two pieces of bread sandwiching one piece of melted cheese in the middle. You did have choices for four different cheeses and bread type, which was a nice touch. Her onion rings looked great though-- big rings and crispy! Food service was fairly fast (we were 2 of 3 people eating in the place) and our waitress was friendly enough. Honestly, it truly was A-Ok. We came late on a Saturday night for a vegan burger and French fries. We had the portobello mushroom burger which was eh, I took a couple of bites because I was starving and then i realized the taste wasn't really amazing so I left that alone. The French fries were great and yummy and our hostess was kind enough to bring us some jalapeños on the side. We also had the jalapeño poppers which were so good but not spicy at all, and I know my spicy ! All in all, the appetizers were good, the entree not so much. Walked to the Junction which is close in proximity to Grand Central for a late Saturday dinner. My husband and I were kindly greeted by the bartender upon entering. Bar was full so we sat in the table area which was quiet. Ambiance was warm and laid-back. Love the brick walls. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. My burger was good but the 1/2 pound size was much more than I could eat. In hindsight, I might've shared the burger in addition to something else. I would visit again. read more

Really welcoming bar in midtown, this was a great find on a cold December day. We stopped in for a drink and stayed for a couple plus fried pickles (always a popular choice for us). Here I'm, a Greek guy, first time in NYC ever. Going around the city, trying to absorb as much as I can from this unique mega-urban agglomeration in the meager, just 8 days I'll stay here -and I'm already at day 6. So far so good, everything is impressive (and expensive), but still something's missing. The human factor. No real experience of NYC life, except as an observer. So, day -or rather night- 6, and I'm walking uptown to my hotel at Lexington and 53rd, having already done my drinking in a cozy, but otherwise ho-hum hotel bar I found by chance a bit further down. A tad before 39th on Lexington, here I come upon a huge, red devil-head adorning the warm lighted, yellow, some-kind-of-establishment front. "What the devil" I think, and the same moment I realize it's a bar! The Junction Bar, complete with skull heads and other, it turns out, Halloween decorations. We don't observe Halloween in Greece, so this goes AHA! in my head, and doubles my interest. I come closer and I discern a cozy, relatively narrow at first glance space, with a more spacious room at the back. Warm, lively music oozes from inside, 60s to 80s, exactly what I like being a rather salty ol' dog meself admittedly... ; ) The place oozes friendliness. It's lively, the customers seem relaxed, and it's not crowded. So I go inside for just one beer. I sit it alongside the corridor, right in across from the bar. Everybody seem chillin' and having a merry time, the main action being at the bar. I catch the eye of the lady behind it (who looks as she could be classical Greek herself! ; ) and right away I'm served a very tasty IPA beer and in a very friendly manner. I sit, I watch, I have a good time absorbing the atmosphere, still an observer. Eventually I pay, -the "Greek" bar lady is magically there, the moment I made the "check please" hand signal, and when I leave the change as a tip, she graciously thanks me with a hands-to-heart hand signal of herself and a appreciative node. Definitely a place to come back again! So,t here I'm again, next evening, the one before the last. This time it is definitely the bar. Heck, no more observer! I want to be a local! It's about 10 pm.... What comes next I'll remember as one of the most fun-filled night I had in my life! Lively conversation with the other patrons, jokes, even singing-along out loud "Hit me baby one more time" at one point, all facilitated by a few -ok, more likely more than a few-, perfect margaritas, made by the secret weapon so to speak of the Junction Bar, the aforementioned heck-of-a bartender Rosh! Waaay beyond a mere liquor mixer, the lady was a veritable, true midwife of fun!!! Involved, funny, gracious, an instant friend for a guy at his first ever time in the Biggest of Apples. And a damn good liquor mixer on top! I -reluctantly!- departed at 4 am ,a bit smashed admittedly, but not more an observer either! A regular! A New Yorker... ; ))) Everything was just right about the Junction Bar. From the customers of that night, to the lady that was tidying up the tables and picking up the empties, relaxed, smiling and sincerely friendly. But Rosh, the "Greek" lady tending the bar that night was the one who made it happen. Thank you Rosh! Let me say, I waited until the second time I went to review this place because I hate giving bad reviews. I'll focus on the most current visit. I arrived with two of my coworkers for lunch and was seated quickly. We picked the spot despite the fact I had received poor service in the past because on the weekdays the happy hour starts at 11am and it was close to the office. We sat down and all ordered waters and glasses of Malbec. Our waitress, Tara, was immediately extremely rude. I had not shared my poor experiences with my coworkers, but one of them immediately noticed. Tara was extremely warm and attentive to male customers but since we were a table of three women, she barely responded to us and would not look us in the eye even though we were very kind and polite. Tara never brought the waters and we had to flag her down quite animatedly just to get our order taken. It's actually a shame because the food is good, but when you start with awful service, it leaves a poor taste in your mouth. After we got our food I asked politely for three waters. When she brought them we drank them immediately (I mean we had waited thirty minutes plus). I asked if we could get refills and she rolled her eyes and sighed. When she returned, she put a pitcher on the table without refilling the glasses, speaking, or even acknowledging us. Our bill was over $10 short of a hundred dollars. We gave her a $100 bill...and that's where it was really the icing on the cake. We waited for our change so we could split things up, and it never came. She just assumed it was her tip and never came back to the table. No good bye, no thank you, no nothing. We were done spending money, so she was over us, but then again she seemed over us from the second we sat down. Overall, it's really a shame. I had Tara the first time I was there and received poor service, but wanted to give the place a second chance because the food was good and they had a Mets flag hanging (LGM!) but I don't think I'll be back. read more

I love a visit here when I am visiting Manhattan. Great for Sunday football with some food trying to battle the inevitable hangover from the night before. Lots of bars have decent screens, some even have good food, few have both of these and then also great, welcoming and friendly staff! Sitting at the bar and being Scottish the waitress Roisin quickly jumped on our accents. After an hour in the bar the place couldn't have felt more like home. Great local NY Irish pub around the corner from our hotel Pod 39 on 39th Street NY. Usual brews you'd expect but some of the pub food was really good. We had the Chop Shop Curry with chicken and half fries and half rice. Previous pub curries were really salty and bland. Nice friendly staff, some were even Irish with accents and all. Only negative was that the music was too loud for my liking. Miss the traditional pubs with dark woods and cozy seating, no music, TVs or video games. I ended up here because we needed to finds a place to watch the game near Grand Central and the Junction is a sports bar... sort of. First, they would not let us turn on the volume for the game. How can you be a sports bar and try to get customers in to watch games if you aren't going to give them volume. Bad call. We ordered some overpriced food that was not bad per se, but wasn't great either. They only have 3 flavors of wings and they cost 10 bucks for 9. I got hot which wasn't spicy at all, and my friend got the old bay rubbed flavor. The Old Bay rub totally dried out the chicken making it not very good at all. I ordered their signature beer and wasn't impressed or disappointed . Overall, the Junction is solidly average for a Midtown bar, but underperforming as a sports bar. read more

My friends and I stopped in here a few times, hoping to replace our corner bar, which closed this summer. The first two times were fine--we got drinks that were on the special board, and when we offered to pay full price for a cocktail listed for happy hour later in the evening, they still honored the HH price. And then I arrived before my friend one night last week, and asked for one of the nightly specials on the board, and they said they were out. I asked for one of the other drinks they'd offered previously, and they said they were out of that as well. I asked if I could get something similar for the same price, and the bartender looked at me like I was crazy. I went back outside to wait for my friend so we could find somewhere else, and noticed the bartender came out and wiped off the drink I'd wanted from the board. It seems like an okay place, but I don't really like it enough to go if there isn't a special involved. read more

I ordered the "Junction Combo" and was greatly disappointed, in particular by the terribly overcooked chicken (both the wings and the chicken fingers). The breading on the other items was also badly done, and fell apart from the food. In addition, the bartender completely failed to make a decent black-and-tan. The atmosphere was as expected from the reviews; this is definitely a dive-ier type bar. We went in around 4pm on a weekday, and it was already crowded, with a very very loud, already wasted crowd. We could barely walk through it due to older drunk men pushing each other around in front of the door and acting obnoxiously. When we finally sat down, the bartenders were not attentive, and didn't come over to us for at least 5-6 mins, even though they didn't appear to be busy and instead were talking to people. I came here recently with a few friends after the open bar at an event I was attending ended. It was pretty crowded on a Thursday night, but we were still able to get the big table in the back corner to sit at. That being said, I wasn't all that impressed with the setup. Having the dart board set up kept us pretty much blocked in while a game was going on. The jukebox also overrides people's music choices that were already selected...so you could theoretically put in a line-up of songs and lose them all. I also wasn't terribly much a fan of the waitress who told us we had to leave because one of our friends was too drunk. It'd be one thing if it was belligerent inebriation, but it was more towards the passed-out kind of drunken state. I might give it another shot if I'm in the neighborhood, but I wasn't impressed by the relative cramped spacing, along with the other points I noted above. Drinks are relatively cheap, but you definitely get better service if you order your own drinks at the bar - I don't think we ever had a server come over and ask us what we wanted. read more

After being cooped up most of the weekend due to Hurricane Irene, a few of my friends decided to meet up at The Junction for some Sunday evening beers and food. I had never been before, but I would definitely like to go back. Great beers on tap, awesome music selection, lots of tvs and staff more than willing to change the channel from high school little league to the Yankees/Orioles game, nice selection of food. Awesome disco fries! My one complaint is that we ordered 20 "medium" wings and somehow got 10 "hot" wings and 10 "BBQ" - only one person in our crowd was able to stomach them while the rest of us nibbled on the carrots and celery. read more

A lot of hotel guests from THE POD hotel find their way here and business men who work near Grand Central. A lot of creepy business men, but still I love it. The bartenders are great and there are always cabs to catch on lex. Noise level is medium, I feel like I could come to this bar dressed in sweats and still be treated with respect. Love it here!! You walk in and it is really a nice place, and whoever did the Christmas decorations is talented. I have now come here 2 Monday's and I can say that the food is fantastic. I came here before I moved to NYC, on an afternoon right after my husband had an all-day job interview. Got great vibes the moment we walked in. They had gone all out and decorated for Halloween. Loved the friendliness of the place, beginning with the bartender. It was a Taco Tuesday, and let me tell you, they have great tacos, and they get better the tipsier you get. I am pretty convinced that all the food is probably amazing because it sure sounded like it. We had margaritas (delicious, $5) and Coronitas (5 for $12), and by the end of the night we were buying people shots, people were buying us shots and our tab was $100 lol! Hey, we were celebrating! My hubster found out he got the job while we were there, so everyone encouraged the craziness that ensued. Not to mention they were helping us celebrate our recent Vegas elopement haha! A memorable night with the help of patrons and the bartender. Looking forward to going back for another Taco Tuesday and making memories I won't remember with people I don't know. :) read more

The Junction. I've been here a bunch of times with a friend who works in the area. But I always end up coming during the afternoon. Maybe one of the biggest things for me is getting along with the bartender. She's full of good stories and almost always has a smile on her face. It's very much an Irish bar (so's she). The food's good and filling. I've had a lot of fun playing beer pong in the back. If you're a sports fan there's a number of TVs. I always wind up here at weird times, so I haven't seen the crazy weekend thing really, but when I come I find it usually to be a pretty relaxed, easy going place where it shouldn't be too difficult to pick up a conversation with whoever else is sitting at the bar. read more

Went here to watch Monday night football last night. The food was excellent - great tasting, super hot, nice portions. I was really impressed with the food. My waitress (an Irish girl) was very attentive and courteous. I sat in the back room to watch Monday night football. I'm guessing that 75% of the bar is there to watch football, I wish that they would consider putting on teh pregame show over the audio, instead they play music. So maybe that is a personal preference of mine, I'm sure someone did studies at some point. However, it was annoying that during halftime they switched back to music, and then when the 2nd half started, ~5-10 minutes of the game was missed while we waited for the bartender to flip the music off and the game back on. All in all, I had a great experience and will be back next time I am in NYC. read more

After the countless hours I've spent at work this summer reading the many reviews of so many dedicated Yelpers, I always feel a bit guilty when I discover a place without the help of the masses. In fact, it almost makes me feel as though I've wasted my time looking up great places when some of the very best are those I've randomly wandered into. While celebrating a friend's birthday over the weekend, we found ourselves on Lexington searching for a place that 1. wouldn't be too crowded, 2. wouldn't be too expensive, and 3. (most importantly) would accommodate the birthday boy who could barely keep his eyes open and his head off the table. Voila! The Junction appeared as if from nowhere-- heaven-sent (and since I'm the first to review it, I'm wondering if perhaps it really doesn't exist after all?)! From the outside, it's not much to see, but once you walk in, it's got the feeling of an Irish pub--or maybe that was just because one of the bartenders was Irish? Either way, it turned out to be a low-key place to celebrate a birthday (or in the birthday boy's case, take a nap). The drinks weren't too pricey, the staff was friendly, and the crowd was laid back. I'd definitely recommend popping in here if you want a low key night, but crave a great bar atmosphere. read more

The kind of bar where you forget where you were, but you know it had a pretty unique looking exterior and the beers flowed easy. Toss in some beer pong, and it's the kind of place you'd definitely return to if you work or live nearby. The few times I've been here, I've forgotten the name of the place. A few of us from the office were going out to happy hour and normally we go to the same bar, but we wanted to try something different. So the organizer (not me), suggested The Junction. It was a great choice! It wasn't too crowded on a Thursday evening, so we were able to get the corner table by the fireplace. And the drink specials were pretty good- $4 for beer, and there's quite a few beers to choose from. There's something for everybody. The Junction has their own brew, which according to the waitress, was similar to Coors Light. I hate Coors Light, but thought I'd try it anyway. She was right, but it tasted a lot better than Coors. I went back again not too long ago on a Sunday night, and it wasn't too packed either. Perhaps people were being responsible and not going out late before tackling another week of work, but I sat at the same table I did the first time I was here. There weren't any drink specials going on, so I let my sister get the first, and only, round. Aren't I a nice brother?* Anyway, after two experiences here, I like this bar. The only thing I hate is the clown statue on top of the fireplace. I hate clowns (and Coors Light apparently), yet both times, I've sat in the same seat closest to the statue. This is a very solid sports bar in Midtown East/Murray Hill neighborhood. My boyfriend lives in the apartment building above this bar, and when I found out he was moving here I was SO pumped when he told me he had a bar in his "basement." Scenes of How I Met Your Mother floated into my head. However, I know in this city a bar is not hard to come by, so I was reluctant to get excited too quickly. Turns out, though, that the Junction is pretty damn legit and definitely has the neighborhood sports bar type atmosphere that I was hoping for. Being so close to Midtown/Times Square/Penn Station, it's nice to get to this area and regain that neighborhood feeling. The bar is pretty minimal but still a good size and there are just the basics for beer and food options, but everything is solid. They actually have a house brew, Junction Ale, which is just ok... but it's definitely a step up from getting a pitcher of Bud Light. There are some bottle options that are appealing to me. And of course, any of the bartenders can make a solid cocktail. They have a ton of TVs and a little "back" area that I could see being ideal if you have a large group and want to have your own space. Not sure if they reserve that area, but I'd be surprised if they didn't. Sports are always on, but don't be surprised to not find any "local" sports fans. Thought I guess that is kind of the MO for the entire city. Just always disappointed when I wear my NY Giants jersey around this city and I am the one being heckled. But, I guess that is a review of the city in general, and therefore irrelevant to this one. Came here after a study group on a Sunday with two classmates. One of my classmates works nearby and often goes to the Junction for happy hour/post work drinks. The bar was quiet, a few of the bar stools were filled, but plenty of space for us to sit away from others (we tend to talk a lot and loudly with zero filters). We just missed brunch (11-3pm) which had a number of good looking selections and unlimited booze, but they have great Sunday Funday specials including $4 Bud Lights, Junction Lager and Junction Ale. The ale was surprisingly good, one of the better "housemade" beers I've had. The bartender was awesome, very friendly and hospitable. I give the bartender a lot of credit, there was one older woman who kept looking over at us and muttering to herself and going "shhh" but not really loudly enough for us to hear. I can only imagine she was a difficult patron for the bartender, but it kept us wildly entertained. This is a great spot in midtown east and I would definitely come back for drinks and/or food (the menu looked awesome, solid bar food choices, my classmate enjoys any of the tater tot options). read more

These days, restaurants/bars deserve an extra star for holding a reservation they promised to hold. The Junction does one better... they officially "don't take" reservations, but they held a nice table for us in the back. It took a personal visit to make everything smooth... but smooth it was. The service was also nice, with frequent checks on "how's everybody doing." The beer list was good, with a lot of variety in bottled beer. On tap was a nice Session beer and I stuck with it all night. Others moved from genuine indy beers to fake craft beers like SHOCK TOP (I think it's made by Budweiser.) The food was bar food. We didn't order any main dishes, just nachos, wings, chicken fingers, you get the idea. It wasn't awful, but also not spectacular. Inside, it was spacious, a bit loud, but converseable.
