Usually this restaurant is very good. Today we ordered the short ribs on the advice of our server. They were mostly fat and grissle. Mine had maybe 3 bites of meat. One of our appetizers was never delivered. Maybe they have a different chef, but I cannot rate this restaurant any higher than 3 stars based on the food and service, and the menu. read more

This is a fantastic restaurant. I have a VERY picky husband who loves to complain about restaurant experiences, whether it's the food, the set up, the service (usually the service). Our last dining experience at the Kitchen Table was one of TWO times he had NOTHING bad to say. Ate dinner there 2/9/13...three of us ordered the haddock and were very disappointed. I could barely eat it and realized later I should have sent it back... they can take that dish off the menu. Salad was very good and drink was good but way over priced. I don't mind paying for a good drink but the martini glass was so small I didn't order another one. My husbands steak was just OK for $38!!. Our bill was $141 for 2 of us and we won't be returning. read more

There are plenty of well-deserved kudos here and elsewhere for KTB's food, so I just want to single out this superb restaurant's ability to handle groups. The other night our organization held a dinner party at KTB for about 30 members in one of the restaurant's private rooms. Well before most people arrived, Will and the rest the wait staff went out of their way to help us find the best locations for a projector and screen as well as a computer and monitor. As our group started arriving, they hustled around taking drink orders and otherwise tending to needs. The great service continued during dinner and through to providing separate checks -- no easy task with a group of that size. I was all the more impressed by the hospitality and professionalism I've long experienced here. read more

The KTB is one of the top 3 restaurants in the greater Burlington area (Hen of the Wood in Waterbury and Trattoria Delia in Burlington being the other 2). KTB serves delicious local fare in a warm and inviting setting. The menu has recently changed to offer more of a bistro experience - so prices range from $10 to $30 for entrees. Try the mussels, the cheese plate (VT has excellent cheese), the burger, the filet, or whatever fish they are serving. The wait staff is excellent - most have been there for years and can offer advice on what is fresh or recommended for the evening. The desserts are good. The homemade ice cream is sometimes phenomenal and sometimes just ok. But the pastries are generally fantastic. They offer a very nice wine list, with reasonable prices. Neal, the host, is very familiar with the list and is very helpful in his recommendations. My husband and I dine out often and both put KTB at the top of our lists. read more

Cannot believe there aren't more reviews of this place on yelp. Went there last night with my 38 week prego wife. We made reservations the day before, I would recommend reservations as far before your night as possible, as they only do dinner, but we were able to get them. Host was very accommodating and gave us a larger table after seeing my prego wife (we are at the point where that is ok). The food was divine! We love the local aspect and it is truly some of the best food we have ever had. Be sure to go with an open mind if you picked out an item on their website as their menu changes often. I did have a bad plate (mushroom risotto special), and would have given a 4 but server was very accommodating and brought me another plate of the mussels that we had. The mussels and caesar are a reason to give this place a 5 on their own. One thing to note, they aren't actually in the downtown of Richmond, so be sure you follow your directions (left off of the highway from Burlington not right towards Richmond) It did get a little expensive with starters, salads wine and dessert, but can't wait to go again. . . read more

Service was good and they have the closest thing to real sour dough bread on the east coast but when the start charging for refills on soda I have to say good bye. It's bad enough that the food is so over priced but charging for refills on something that cost them pennies is price gouging on a whole new level. We go nuts at this restaurant. Honestly, we've never ordered anything that wasn't excellent. Plus the meats and veggies are often locally sourced, so you feel good about supporting the community. Although you can have a reasonably priced meal here, we have never been able to, because we can't resist getting multiple courses, including dessert and wine. Leave room for dessert - seriously, they are outstanding. Also, a great place for gluten-free folks, as most items on the menu are naturally gluten-free, and the staff is very accommodating. Seriously. Friday night I had the best meal I have ever eaten. The starter was a big bowl of lightly fried Brussels sprouts over a warm pool of a melted blue cheese sauce. Who would ever want to eat anything else? Divine. The entree was a bone-in breast of roasted organic chicken, slightly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was resting on garlic mashed potatoes and a slather of dark gravy surrounded by moist roasted root vegetables. Pure comfort but with a sophistication that was delightful. read more

This has become an old stand by for us as we are never disappointed with what the Kitchen Table has to offer. It never ceases to amaze me how this small restaurant in northwestern Vermont manages to provide and prepare seafood that tastes as if it had come fresh off of the boat. Last night, my wife and I shared an appetizer of grilled octopus that rivaled anything I have eaten at some of the best seafood restaurants on the coast of Maine. I also enjoyed a hake entree with sides of polenta and ratatouille that easily ranks as one of the better meals I have had in a while. The great thing about this place is the varied menu. If you don't like seafood, there are plenty of other delicious offerings. For example, my wife absolutely loved the mushroom stuffed cavendish quail that she ordered. Suffice to say, we were a bit disappointed to hear that this restaurant is for sale. All I can say is that any new owners are going to have some very big shoes to fill as Steve and Lara have truly created something special. read more

We decided to make the 45 minute drive based on several years of hearing great things about Kitchen Table Bistro, and we're so glad we did! It was a beautiful evening a to z. Food was legit local farm to table. We had the fresh picked corn with burrata and foraged mushrooms, chicken liver pate, the hake dish and steak all beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. Had a really perfect dinner there on Saturday night. Husband and I were on vacation in Stowe, and originally I was dead set on going to Hen of the Wood. They ended up being booked all weekend (said the recording on their phone number?). So the second choice was Kitchen Table. So happy for that choice!! It's a very charming converted old house with small intimate dining rooms. Service was good, and the menu was great. I had the beet salad with goat cheese, and the gnocchi. Never had such perfect gnocchi. Husband had an heirloom salad with burrata which he loved. Steak frites for an entrée. Steak was cooked well, the tarragon aioli was a bit overwhelming. For dessert, a cheesecake pound cake with peaches and peach ice cream was a great ending. The portions were good as they left you feeling comfortable, not stuffed and tired. This ended up being the highlight of our trip, and if we are ever back in the Burlington area, we will return! read more

The food was delicious but the service was TERRIBLE. Slow, our drinks sat empty for 10 minutes and were only noticed when our entrees were dropped off. Instead of having a nice pinot noir I had water with my braised shortribs, the wine showing up when I was 2/3 through the entree. The table was never touched beyond perfunctory service, no checking up on how we were doing or if we needed anyting else. So disappointing, I really had high hopes but at this price point the Bluebird Tavern offers so much more, and that's where I'll be going for my next anniversary dinner. read more

I've traveled all over the US and had the opportunity to try many great restaurants. This place is hands down one of my favorites. I have eaten here many times and the best part is, it's always different. The chef uses locally grown ingredients to keep the menu changing with the seasons. Every time I'm amazed at how well it tastes. I also enjoy the staff and atmosphere. It can easily be a romantic night out or a family dinner. The staff does a great job accommodating ether need and are truly great people that enjoy what they do. I would recommend reservations as far ahead of time as possible. I would plan to spend about $100 per couple if you enjoy wine or drinks. The attire is casual to dressy. read more

One of my favorite restaurants within easy reach of Burlington. They use local ingredients from places like Half Pint Farm (in the Intervale) and Misty Knolls chicken. The food is always good here. One of those meals where you slowly eat your food and savor every bite and where you wish you had more sauce to dredge the last couple bites. Having said that, I do have a couple negatives from our last visit. One was that we were a bit disappointed in the KTB Caesar. It used to be a salad where the romaine was taken apart and then relayered back into a head. This time it was the lettuce leaves just stacked on the plate. Disappointed this time. We come to Vermont every February and for the past 3 years we've had dinner at The Kitchen Table in Richmond. They do a great job with essentially Vermont ingredients and we've always felt we got good value from our visit - great food, well prepared, fairly priced, and served in a way that doesn't require us to think about the service. Oh well. Last night, not a terribly busy one there, was the exception. The appetizers were meh - she had the beet salad, but it was pretty minimal- 4 small beets on croutons with a few greens - and I had steak tartare which was OK, but not at all special (or worth $12) instead of the skate cheeks which our server recommended but then informed me they were out of but charged me for any way. The entrees were first rate - she had long rib with parsnip puree and I had a perfectly prepared pork chop with braised cabbage. The problem was the service... Slow and sloppy and distracting. Instead of enjoying the meal in a carefree manner and enjoying each others company, we fretted over each wait and miscue, wondering what would happen next (like being charged for something we didn't get). The price was still fair, but we'll think twice next February before booking a return visit. read more

Great meal again. I had the roast pork shoulder with sweet potatoes and collard greens. Melt in your mouth tender pork, fresh collard greens , not overly seasoned, better than I've had most places in the south. Peter had very tender sirloin steak and fries. First it's next to a construction yard. Also, unfortunately it's in Richmond, which is financially broke so the police hand out tickets like candy. Pay attention! WE have been here several times, several years in a row now. This occasion was the aberration. We were seated at a table that was small, for two people, which we did not object to since it was a Saturday night and we assumed it would be super busy in the summer. It was a tiny round table jammed in the corner...something you'd expect for just drinks. The seats were hard and he didn't have enough leg room to adequately stretch. My husband who is 6 ft. tall was quite uncomfortable by the end of the meal and had to get up and walk around while we waited for dessert. I wouldn't mention it except another couple came in well after us and was seated at a square, much roomier table. They came in after us and left long before us. They ordered only an entree and no appetizers or desserts. Additionally there was another large table for 7 set up behind us and no one was ever seated there in the time we came and went. We did every course, appetizers, cheese dish, entrees, wine, dessert and dessert wine. The first person to wait on us was the bartender. He originally came over to take our drink order while he noticed the waitress wasn't getting to us to get our drink order. He seemed to keep things running smoothly there and interfaced when there were holes. At the end of our meal, he asked how the food was and I gave him a thumbs up as I had ice cold ice cream in my mouth and was unable to speak but the response did adequately answer his particular question. He didn't hang around long enough for the full verbal answer. The same was true or even more so with our waitress. She was good at aiding me in selecting an appropriate wine, but most of the remainder of the night, we didn't see her, and when we did she was curt and not at all communicative, sociable or attentive beyond the minimum required...much less than we had experienced in the past or at similar type establishments. As for the food,it was mostly very good. I ordered a medium-well burger and I would categorize what I received as more on the well side, but, as these things can be somewhat objective to the end user, I didn't complain or really consider that in the three star rating. If it was an option I'd give them 3 1/2 stars....but I couldn't give 4 stars with the curt and very slow (at times) service we received. The dessert was good, but not particulary outstanding. By the way, the berry jam served with the cheese plate WAS outstanding. We will try this place again but were genuinely disappointed as this was part of a weekend celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary. BTW, when we made the reservation, no one even asked if this was a special occasion. At really nice places that value the service end, that is usually something that is standard. read more
