As someone visiting from out of state I've been relying on reviews to help me decide where to eat and the knead cafe did not disappoint. My sister and I started our meal with a tiger spiced chai which was sooo creamy and delicious. My sister ordered the veggie breakfast burrito while I ordered the baja'melette. We have taken cross country trips the past two summers in a row -- The first summer we stumbled upon this place and fell in love with the atmosphere and their delicious original and New Orleans style eggs benedict, and this summer when we found ourselves back in Kalispell, we had to stop back in and make sure it wasn't a fluke. ;) We unfortunately didn't think ahead and arrived during lunch hours. I called Knead for a catered lunch for 35 folks, and they did a fantastic job. They brought an assortment of sandwiches, two huge delicious green salads, a large container of cookies, and enough soft drinks and water for everyone. Delivery was on time, and extremely courteous. No hollandaise sauce this time because I am doing a "thing" (#whole30 for one more week) but they were totally cool with that and don't mind special ordering. The soup was Moroccan ham and lentil with was full of flavor. Slightly warm but balanced with African spices like a touch of cinnamon. I was very pleased!! All of their salad dressings are from scratch and delicious. It looked to be family owned and I loved the atmosphere. It was like waking into my aunts kitchen. Had no problem finding a nearby parking spot on the street. The Knead is tucked into a small strip of businesses off Main Street - keep your eyes open - a little hard to identify the first time. Persevere! The hunt reveals a treasure of a cafe. Sweet, warm & cozy space with an open kitchen. The kitchen counter near our table was loaded with fresh pastries, scones, pies & treats - all looked delectable. Chalk board signs offered daily specials, dutifully wiped clean as items were sold out. I decided on the Prime French Dip - chunky portion of tender, sliced med rare prime rib, topped with sautéed mushrooms, carmelized onions, melted Swiss cheese, perfectly combined with horseradish-Dijon mayo on a tasty roll. It was insanely good. For the included side, I chose the house salad ... very fresh, chopped just right & well balanced. I think I took a photo of my hubby's Autobahn Grinder, it was gone in a flash... He chose the soup of the day - a generous portion of corn chowder that he also devoured. Our bellies were very satisfied, although disappointed that we didn't save room for the homemade pie - the Tweed & the Blackberry-peach will have to wait for our next visit. Good food, fast service, pleasant staff, but . . . All the times I've been at the KC, the cooking staff has played its music much too loud,-- so loud that it interfered with casual conversation. Today I asked for it to be turned down several times, but got only temporary relief before he-who-controls-the controls turned it back up. I've never had a problem with what he plays. The tunes are varied and interesting. Given that one of the reasons for my going out for a meal with friends is conversation and camaraderie, however, turning the cafe into a bar/lounge music hall makes it a poor choice. So, if you want just the food, go there. If you want a quieter place, one to talk with and listen to your friends, somewhere else would be a better choice. read more
