SO FUN. We stayed at the Loews Hollywood hotel right next door, and one of the perks was a complimentary show for 2 at The Kookaburra Lounge (still have to hit the drink minimums though). It's located on the 4th floor of the Ovation Hollywood mall and it's actually a very luxe comedy club, at least compared to the ones I've been to on Sunset Blvd. We were given a drink/food menu and the minimum is 2 drinks/person. The food and drinks are average. I ordered two iced teas and was a little thrown because the first one was significantly larger in size compared to the second one... Did I get scammed? But otherwise, show was great. We saw total of three comedians - 2 opening acts and the main one. I was also given the option to be seated right up front where all the action was. Be sure to stay until the end to close out your bill. They automatically tack on a 20% service fee, so no need to worry about tip. read more

Beyond music, they host bingo, burlesque, and all kinds of fun events throughout the week, so there's always something going on. I am definitely coming back!!!! The vintage Hollywood vibe, the laughing til it hurts, the amazing drinks.. this place is awesome! The lounge is located inside of the Ovation at the 4th floor, take the elevator/escalator from the parking garage and you'll be able to spot the front door right away. They also do validate parking ($3 for 4 hours). My friend and I arrived early so we sat at the bar for a bit. The bartender gave us the heads up that the two-drink minimum (food items not included) per person would not apply to drinks purchased at the bar, I appreciated being told this right off the bat. Every staff member we ran into was very nice and professional. The venue is very clean and well decorated. Seats are plentiful and comfortable. The drinks are delicious and strong! Pricing was also reasonable considering the location. We didn't order food so I cannot comment to that. The lineup they had was great, my head hurt after the show from laughing so much. We sat in the front row, it was fun being apart of the jokes. :) Without a doubt I will be returning here for another night of laughter! read more

This was such a FUN, HILARIOUS, and HEARTWARMING night! All of the comedians AND TWO magicians were SO GOOD!! The food and service was excellent! Katie the owner hit the stage and was SO FUNNY BECAUSE SHE JUST DOES'T GIVE A DAMN! When Tiffany Haddish SHE TOOK OVER AND KILLED IT!! She told self deprecating stories that we've all been thru, tried to educate the men in the audience which was HILARIOUS!!! She also told stories that touched me and I cried and LAUGHED MY ASS OFF! What do you get when you have a sold out show, a skeleton crew, and no organization from leadership.... DISASTER! This venue can't host an event on time. Even if they know their show sold out. We came for the burlesque show. Tickets said venue opens at 8 arrive early for seating. We arrived 7:40, big crowd already waiting in the patio. By 8 there was a line out the door. It wasn't until 8:40, already an hour of outside waiting that they let us in. Mind you the show should've started at 9. Everyone was finally seated by around 9:45. Show started at 10. Still expecting you to do a 2 drink minimum, which if you're expecting a good cocktail please go elsewhere they don't know their ratios and their "homemade" syrups don't equate to a good tasting cocktail. By the time we placed our drink order in and got our food and drink it was already the shows intermission. No way I'm ordering a second drink and have to stay until after the show is over to get my last drink. If you're expecting their bar food to taste good you have a better food experience eating day old food cooked by a microwave. Do not come her for food or drinks you're not missing out on anything. You'll have a better time walking the strip and entering any other bar. You'll come for the shows but that's it. If every event they have is ran like this. This place has until their lease is up to stay in business. read more

Big appreciation for the regularly featured burlesque show. The ambiance is lovely and the drinks are fine given the Hollywood location... but I am literally sitting in the venue right now watching the manager have a meltdown- telling customers without any finesse they can't sit where they've been sitting (in chairs- not wildly out of place), and asking wheelchair users if they really need a chair. The waitstaff if overwhelmed and the manager barking at them isn't helping. This is truly an awe-inspiring experience- in 25 years I've never been made so uncomfortable by a bar manager. I would rate this place lower but I do really like the old school setting and variety of entertainment. It's a little overpriced but it's literally in tourist central. Someone give the manager a Xanax and it will all be ok. read more

We laughed for 3+ hours straight on a Wednesday with a hilarious lineup of comedians including Craig Robinson. For those of us with day jobs, shows start on the early side (8ish PM) and you kind of can't beat comedy at a mall (hollywood and highland). It's so easy. Parking is $3. Good service. Good drinks. Beautiful club. Best owner who seems to know exactly every funny person in town. Already thinking about when we can go back next with friends. A great time! read more

We had tickets for early entry for the Valentine's Day sultry burlesque show. The ticket said doors open at 8 o'clock. Since we didn't have assigned seating, we got there at 7:30 so that we would be one of the first in line and we definitely were the first in line. They had us wait on the patio area, which was nice to be able to sit while we were waiting, however, the trouble started at 8 PM. At 8 PM they let us know that they were experiencing some difficulties and that they'd let us in within 10 minutes. 10 minutes passed 20 minutes passed then they said we would be in within two minutes yet another 20 minutes passed and they said soon we'd be in....they did not start letting us in until 8:45 PM. The ticket taker was so overwhelmed that when I gave him my phone, he touched it and it made my screen go black and then he got short with me and told me that I needed to go faster after making me wait 45 minutes past door opening time he snapped at me for a two second snafu that he created. Once we were in we were seated immediately. We got really great seating and were close to the stage. We ordered the charcuterie platter, but they did not have that available anymore and said they needed to update their menus. So we ordered a pretzel that came with cheese sauce and mustard. My advice is skip the food here. The cheese was so disgusting with a grainy texture. what I did appreciate were the mocktails. They had a pretty good selection. The pink kitty was nice and refreshing bonus points for offering Guinness zero! We also had the lemon meringue pie martini which was really like eating a pie so good! And the lychee martini, this one was a bit stiff! We asked for water, but never got any so as far as service goes they may need more servers because they seem very overwhelmed if I couldn't get a glass of water within the 2+ hours, I was there. The entertainment was top notch! All the performers really gave 100%. I would definitely recommend the performers, but the venue is just so/so. read more

I've been here 3 times now. . . Most recently last night for the V Day burlesque show. I love the floor plan, lighting, chairs wallpaper, stage, & live band. It's an awesome setup for the Burlesque show they frequently feature. I'm a fan. What is absolutely dismal is the wait time for drinks, staffing levels, general hospitality etiquette. Granted last night was a special event for the "holiday". I noticed that everyone including myself was waiting a long time for the drinks to get filled & delivered. I went up to a woman at the bar who was either a manager or owner & asked her how to order & get a drink.. she said "Oh the bar staff will help you"... I said "respectfully, they are buried behind a mountain of server tickets & all of us at the bar have been waiting 25 min (no exaggeration)"... I then said "I don't see how the bar & venue make $ with these long wait times". She said "oh we only have three bar wells & there was a mixup with staffing today; you know it's hard to find good help in LA". She then offered to come take my order but I said that was ok & not needed because I knew my order would just sit behind the mountain of tickets. A server came to me shortly after & apologized for the wait & said she had overheard my conversation with that woman & that she would take my order & that yes I may have to wait but at least it's in the queue now. Having worked in hospitality in high volume & high end places I see things through a different lens & I'm very low maintenance.. it takes a lot for me to get upset & get the higher ups involved... I'm very aware of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes & I tip very well. Long story short eventually my date & I got drinks. I've been to this venue a couple times and it's always the same long drawn out wait times for service. Also, many of the events advertise 2 Drink minimum per person & that has NEVER once been enforced.. hey I'm not complaining but it's a terrible business model. I'll probably come back to this location again but I'll pre party before reaching the show floor & will have zero expectations of reasonable service. KooKooBurra: (if you're reading this) 1. Route service tickets to a different area via your PoS systems & have bartenders designated to ONLY make service drinks... this way staff @ the bar can better handle patrons at the bar & cover any overflow. 2. Have someone posted at the front door at all times while the seater walks parties to their tables. Better yet these 2 door staff communicate with each other & streamline the seating process. 3. Staff accordingly & more efficiently so that servers have consolidated sections & don't have their customers strewn across larger surface areas. This is just business 101. The Ovation (Hollywood/Highland) center is such a tourist trap & dying location. I'm sure the rents here are high & everyone wants to make $ Customers have a ton of options for beverages & alcohol tastes the same everywhere If you want to keep your customers, we deserve better attention & basic care. Also the reality is that tips reflect service.. I'm sure the staff is getting shorthanded for some stuff that might be out of their control. read more

Hands down the nicest comedy club I've ever been to! Short story? Food was good, drinks were amazing hand crafted cocktails for under $20, service from a handsome staff with a sense of urgency and great service? Where the hell did they find this team? Long story. I look for this ANYWHERE! Much less at a comedy club, but this place is special! $20 for nice plush seats ina beautiful venue, or do what we did and get a booth! Totally worth it with the bottle of wine! The Mr W was delicious as a whiskey based drink. My friend had a fruity selection and must have liked them as he had three. The service was perfect. The stand up comedians weee great, from the office, Seinfeld, and other great career backgrounds. I liked that this place puts an elegant spin on the comedy club. The decor is absolutely gorgeous and has a vibe that feels retro and modern at the same time. Granted, this isn't a cheap night out. But it's more of a classier feel and would be a great spot for a birthday or special occasion. I would be thrilled if someone took me on a date here. I love the thought that was put into the food/menu and that there are plenty of apps and also veggie options. You can look forward to a special treat rather than your run-of-the-mill fried fare. The coconut shrimp was delicious! I tried one of the whiskey cocktails and that was also tasty. The cookies, sorry to say, were awful. The lady next to me said another table returned theirs and I wish I would had done the same ha. Their lunch menu looks pretty good though so I would go back to try that. The one weird thing was after the comic's set had ended, I was looking for the bathroom and they directed me to the Ovation restrooms??? Like, go OUTSIDE the venue and into the mall, with 5 directions where to go. There's no bathrooms inside the lounge?? I was really confused. I was wandering around Ovation in my heels feeling dejected and decided to give up and head home. Overall though some great comics have already been through and I hope this place thrives. I've performed here 3x's now & I absolutely love the venue. We do live band with burlesque & the owner has been nothing short of accommodating. Always a great attitude even under pressure. The venue is absolutely beautiful. My only suggestion would maybe to put a large flatscreen on that wall support in the back bar that blocks the stage. read more

What an absolutely amazing new comedy venue got to see the hysterical Lisa and Waters from Abbott Elementary and the parent trap remake. She was hysterical. The food was fantastic. I suggest the sliders my wife had the sourdough grilled cheese with tomato soup. Delicious. Everything is fresh and homemade! They have a great drink menu.! This is the nicest and most beautifully designed comedy club I've ever been to. The detail and thought put into all the interior design down to the chairs is worth checking out in itself. There are always amazing celebrity guests doingstand up, as well as many young and new talents. The drinks are also fantastic, craft cocktails. Cannot recommend enough. Much more new clean and nice than the typical clubs in Los Angeles. The service is great and relatively fast for comedy club. read more

WOWZA Im blown away I went for some laughs and I literally saw network stars from TV shows I watch and love! This show had both stand up comics and funny music acts it was called WILD WEDnesday !! My buddy and I went as ive been so sad depressed lately and this is exactly what I needed ! The tix were a good price we got GREAT seats , anywhere you sit in there will be good because it's planned out well and the stage is up so all the seats have a great view! I cant believe the headliner wa the famous Craig Robinson! OMG hes a star! They say he perform there alot (sooooo going back) and the other comics were all amazing! They have my fav non alcoholic beer (heiniken zero) and my friend got the coconut shrimp it was divine!!! literally this place is aces and the retro feel is like so classy and takes your breath away! The server MONICA is top shelf best customer service fro sure! She even Brough us ice cold filtered water at the end of the night complimentary! The show was not skimpy it about 3 hours most clubs kick you out after 2 hours so you really get your bucks worth! I LOVE THIS PLACE see you soon! Wow, this venue is absolutely STUNNING! I have visited a few times already and every time has been wonderful. The food, the drinks, decor, and of course the entertainment do not disappoint. The sliders and the coconut shrimp are delicious and the hand crafted lemon meringue martini is something I dream about. Katie, the owner, is so gracious and makes everyone feel at home. Big thumbs up to the new comedy club in town. It's so posh. I go to a lot of comedy in LA and this room takes the cake. Sound is super dialed in. Whoever designed the place really cares a lot about design, lighting and vibe. The place looks too cool. What a place! I visited The Kookaburra Lounge at an unconventional time (1pm on last Thursday, June 6, 2024), so I could meet and treat the executive chef, Leah, to lunch (I know that sounds odd, but I'm friends with her folks in New Mexico, and they were excited for me to meet her and see the new club). This place is one of the few reasons I would love to live in the Hollywood area. The ambience is gorgeous and welcoming - I can only imagine the amazing energy the night of a show! The bartender, Harrison, was super friendly and engaging. The menu had so many delicious offerings that it was difficult to choose. I opted for the leek and potato soup, Vegetarian Delight sandwich (I'm not a huge veggie eater and this was AMAZING, including the delish ciabatta), with a side of crispy chicken. Harrison had highly recommended the crispy "chicken fingers," as he called them, and that did not drum up great confidence in ordering them, but he was SO RIGHT. They have a unique batter - made with soda water, if memory serves - and are heavenly perfection. I also ordered the recommended Giggle Water, which is incredibly good (and photogenic!). If you're looking for a new comedy club with a great lineup of artists, stunning ambience, delicious food, handcrafted drinks with homemade syrups and the most welcoming staff, you must try The Kookaburra Lounge!
